Tulips and daffodils are in bloom. Can you see summer on the horizon? April 25 th was our PROBUS Club s 15 th anniversary. It was nice to see so many of our members out to enjoy the festivities. The era of the 50 s and 60 s, as our theme, conjured up a lot of memories for those who were able to attend. Good food, good music and good conversation added to the festivities. A thank you goes out to Sheila Waters and the Social Committee for organizing the morning. Thank you to Pat Brearly and her committee for manning the ice-cream float stand and a special thank you also goes out to all of those who dressed in period attire adding to the fun. April 30 th was the date for the bowling tournament in Cobourg. Teams participated from each of the PROBUS clubs in our geographical area. Two teams attended representing our club. One of our teams managed to bring home a trophy, of sorts, although I m not so sure that lowest score is the trophy that we wanted to bring home! A big thank you goes out to Cheryl Langevin for her work in organizing our teams and for keeping us informed about all the details. A fun time was enjoyed by all. Our golfers played their first game at Timber Ridge on May 2 nd under a sunny sky and somewhat stiff winds; however, a good morning was had by all 25 golfers. Unfortunately their second game on May 10 th was rained out. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting. As Charles Macklin says, You are as welcome as the flowers in May. 2 PROBUS SOCIAL NEWS Wednesday, May 30, 2018 Fiddler on the Roof - matinee 2pm at the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope. Make your own way there! 40 tickets sold there will be a draw at the May 23 meeting for 2 free tickets for 2 lucky purchasers! Friday, June 15, 2018 Mystery Bus Tour The bus leaves from the Community Centre between 9:30-9:45am be there at 9:15am please. Back again around 3:30-3:45pm. Pay for your own lunch. 3 tickets still available. Wednesday, July 11, 2018 Annual Picnic at Timber Ridge from 2:00-6:00pm. $10 per person includes dinner at 5:00pm (hot dogs or hamburgers choose when you sign up) and lots of fun and games, indoors and out. Photo courtesy of David Lawler. NEWS FROM OUR PROBUS BOWLERS Paul, Cheryl, Joyce, Shaaron and Linda won for the lowest total score closest to the Mystery number - a bottle of wine each. Dave, Louise, Bob, Marilyn and Mary (from another club) won the Trophy (Toilet Seat with cover) for the lowest total score and a bottle of wine each. Dave won for the lowest male score closest to the Mystery number a bottle of wine. It just goes to show that you do not need to be a high average bowler to walk away with prizes! The event took place on Monday 30 April at the Northumberland lanes in Cobourg. There were 98 bowlers from the 7 PROBUS Clubs in Northumberland. Lunch was served at the Legion and was lovely.
