4 Captains Corner Looking ahead As incoming captain, I would like to thank Neill Burne for a job well done. It is always easy to step into a role when everything is set. Thanks to all in the committee, and all Nomads Brisbane, 2011 was a fantastic year for Nomads Brisbane, and we should all very proud of our achievements as a group. We all helped in many ways to run all the golf venues well, a successful charity day, outstanding National tournament and we achieved the goal of supporting our charity of choice Prostate Cancer Council with a total donation of $22, In 2012, I will work hard to ensure we all have a lot of fun, play as much golf as possible, and again we all work hard to support our charity of choice. We will need everyone to support Allan Coulson, on his quest to organize, and raise as much money at another exciting charity day in May. Please start to individually organize a team and a corporate sponsor too! Our membership is strong, with lots of new visitors, so please make them feel welcome and understand our purpose as a club. 5 Around the course Great Day for Golf We had a field of 58 golfers for our last game of the year, played at Gailes GC in perfect golf weather, although not all the scores reflected the perfect conditions. year. 9 Website About our website Australia and the origins in South Africa. Our website has proved to be a great asset to the club and has made registration very much easier. However there are a some functions that not all members are aware of. Here are the features:- Home This is where you will be able to register of the right side of the page and also view the results of the previous game. Captains Report This is the report of the Captain of the previous year as submitted to the National Executive Membership How to become a member and the fees involved. History A history of Nomads both in Golf Calendar Here you can find results of all previous games for the current year as well as seeing who is in the draw for the current game. Another feature is the drop down box that will give details of any other special calendar events (Nationals etc) Archives / Forms Here you will find the previous newsletters, entry forms and club honour board. 11 Forthcoming Events What s on Next Meeting The next game is at Oxley GC on Sunday 17th February There are 60 spots available, with a two tee start and the places will be allocated as the registrations are received. Please register via the Nomads website at and book early as numbers are limited and must be confirmed by 12 th February Social Events This year we propose to have 3 4 social events. What this means, is we are a club do not have time to enjoy each other s company of a few quite beers at the end of the monthly competition due to the time and drinking restrictions before driving home. Therefore, we would like to arrange a social event once every quarter, which could be at someone s home, a club or pub in the city, a rugby game etc etc. We also would like members to come forward with ideas and help us make Nomads Brisbane into a club we can enjoy not only golf, but a few social events with each other. I look forward to hosting the first event, at my home in late March early April, we I propose a late afternoon BBQ for people to kick the proceedings off. We will advise on details next month. 12 From the Rule Book Through the Green General Rules This is anywhere on the course other than the teeing ground, hazards, and putting green. Normally on television it is wrong when announcers describe that a ball rolled off the green as the ball bounced through the green. Ground under repair (GUR) This is an abnormal ground condition that is marked by the committee. Stakes or lines or both are used to mark the condition. The stakes or lines are in the ground under repair, and the stakes are obstructions. A ball is considered in ground under repair if any part of the ball touches it. You are entitled to relief if either your stance or ball is in the ground under repair.a hole made by a grounds keeper is ground under repair even if it's not marked. Grass clippings or other material piled up for removal are also considered ground under repair even if it's not marked. Grass clippings or other material that are abandoned or left on the course that is not intended to be removed is not ground under repair if not marked. PAGE 12

14 On the lighter side Taxes A little boy wanted $ very badly and prayed for weeks and weeks but nothing happened. Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $ When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to God, Australia, they decided to send it to prime minister Gillard. $5.00 bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to God, which read : Dear God, Thank you very much for sending the money, however, I noticed for some reason you sent it through Canberra and those assholes took $95.00 in taxes! Julia was so amused that she instructed her Secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill. He thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy. The little boy was delighted with the PAGE 14
