2 Fellow Nomads My apologies for not attending the monthly game at Plett as I was at the Botswana Nationals. It is a pleasure to announce that the South African team won the Tournament. I believe that everything went well and everybody had an enjoyable time. I had a look at the draw and the attendance is very worrying to me. Please guys the attendance percentage got to pick up as this determines the number of spots for the National Tournament. This year 15 spots were allocated to the Southern Cape Nomads and it can get worse if we continue with our playing percentage. 10 GOLFORAMA The following is my report I presented to the committee this month: Sun Wild Coast Challenge The writer assisted Southern Natal with this tournament. It was marred by the vandalising of a number of greens prior to the commencement of the first day s play. It caused the tournament to be played over 9 holes only, in four balls, with shotgun starts on every day. The tournament had to be extended by one day, due to a weather delay on day one. Definitely the most difficult tournament I have ever done duty at, but very successfully concluded, as a result of Nomad teamwork of the highest order. Vodacom Origins Final at Pinnacle Point The date is fast approaching and the number of volunteers are presently in excess of the required number for all three days. This is a very positive development that our members are responding to calls to assist in a very rewarding function of being a Nomad. Nedbank Golf Challenge Nothing further to report. Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open Marcel and JP Meiring have been confirmed to represent Southern Cape at this tournament. I thank them for their commitment. Herewith the next in the series of introducing the Golforama duties to those who want to learn more: ON COURSE LEADERBOARDS The purpose of the on-course leader boards is to give information to the players (critical in the closing stages of the Tournaments) as well as providing the spectators with an up to date picture of who is leading and after how many holes. Accuracy is vital players sometimes use this information to decide on their strategy of play. Boards are normally located quite close to greens, so please be mindful of your activity as you may be disturbing a players concentration.

11 PREPARATION When you get to your position, open the BLUE box which will contain all the numerals and letters that you will need. It is common practice to lay out the letter in alphabetic sequence next to the board. Numbers can also be taken out and laid out in sequence. (Leaving both numbers and letters in the blue box is just as easy to retrieve them as the numbers do not change that frequently. This adds to the tidiness of the area around the Leader Boards). Keep the black on white numbers together used for hole numbers The other numbers are for the standing to PAR Red depicts under Par and on the flip side the green numbers are over Par. There is also a Weather warning sign in the blue box. This sign is placed on the Leader Board to alert the public of impending inclement weather situations. The sign is only displayed or taken down upon instruction from Control. PROCEDURES Use your hand held to retrieve scores. It is automatically updated so you should not have to refresh however, if in doubt, click on RELOAD Insert the HOLE number for every entry on the board BLACK ON WHITE numbers Every day the hole number starts from 1 in other words we NEVER put up any hole number greater than 18 At the start of a day, all the hole numbers should be blank PLEASE ensure the name is spelt as you see it on the hand held. In the event that the player s name is too long to be detailed fully on the handheld you can check on the correct full spelling of the name by reference to either the Draw Sheet or via CONTROL. In the case of there being more than one person with the same surname playing in the field CONTROL will notify you of this. Under these circumstances put the player s initial AFTER the name RED numbers depict under par. GREEN numbers depict over par. A WHITE L on a BLACK background indicates a level par score The sequence of the names MUST be in the same sequence as the hand held device shows. SEE TIPS below There are only 9 lines so if there are more players than you can fit on the board leave out the last tied scores and names and put x TIED AT y where x is the number of players tied at the y score. This is very important TIPS If the player s name is truncated on the hand held, refer to the sheets or daily Tournament Draw that you will be given for the correct spelling. If there is NO wind do NOT clip the numbers or letters into the grooves rather rest them in the bottom groove of that particular line this makes it quicker and quieter to change. When taking off a name from the board, take it from the end of the name, stacking the other letters on top until you end up with the pile of letters (the start of the surname will then is on the top of the pile). Keep these names to one side as it is quite likely they will come back onto the board. If you run short of letters or numerals, start by using any that may be in a pile if you are still short, contact CONTROL, who will try to locate spares and get the ROVER to bring them to you. When the last match has gone through, contacts CONTROL to verify if you can leave the names on the board or take everything off and packed away in the Blue Box. If you are asked to strip the board, please make sure you put the letters and numerals back in the box in alphabetic and numeric sequence.
