If any class is rescheduled to start more than half an hour earlier than stated in this schedule, competitors will be notified. Please listen for announcements regarding your classes. 4 Advice & Guidelines Showing Turnout Rules Tack: Plain and simple workmanlike tack. Saddles should try and show off the shoulder with a discreet numnah if needed. Bridles can be a Pelham/double for open, intermediate and restricted classes. Snaffle bridles for novice classes. In hand: Adults: Bridles, in hand bridles with a bit and coupling, or Austrian show halters. Youngstock: As above or foal slips Coloured browbands are not considered suitable, but brass clencher browbands may be appropriate for inhand classes i.e. stallions. Riders: Tweed jacket, shirt with collar and tie. Beige, buff, canary jodhpurs. Long riding boots or jodhpur boots for juniors Brown gloves, showing cane not exceeding 30 (75cms). For the ladies, hair neatly and securely tied in a hairnet. THE USE OF SPURS IS NOT PERMITTED IN ANY RIDDEN SHOWING CLASS. In hand handlers: Tweed jackets/waistcoat. Shirt with collar and tie. Trousers and short boots. Riding hat or other appropriate headwear, eg bowler, trilby, cap, panama. Gloves/Showing cane not exceeding 30 Schooling and dressage whips are not permitted. Horses: Should be shown in their natural state with free manes and tails. Subtle trimming is permitted of the ears, jaw line and heels. Hoof oil where used should be natural/clear. Quarter marks and plaiting are not permitted. The elements judged in a showing class are manners, conformation, type and way of going (plus ride is applicable). Working Hunter It correct to wear a hacking jacket in Working Hunter classes with a tie. Discreet numnahs that match the colour of your saddle and any suitable bridle. Boots are permitted on your horse during the jumping phase, but may have to be removed for the conformation/flat ridden section. Jackets as showing above. A hacking jacket is considered appropriate for unaffiliated dressage You may wear a stock with pin or a tie Jodhpurs/breeches may be white, cream, or beige. Boots should be long black. If gaiters are worn they must match the boots. White or light coloured gloves must be worn. In Preliminary and Novice tests the horse should be in a dressage legal snaffle bit. From Elementary level, a double bridle is permitted. The horse must not wear boots or bandages. Schooling whips are permitted where stated in the rules. Spurs are not permitted for competitors 16 years and under Show Jumping In unaffiliated show jumping any jacket may be worn with a stock or tie. Jodhpurs/breeches can be cream, beige or canary. Hats should be securely fastened with a 3 point harness and can be any colour. Any bridle/bitting is permitted and saddles may have a numnah. Spurs may be worn (for riders over 16 years of age) but whips should be short. Boots on the horse are permitted. Driving It is considered correct for the whip to wear a hat, apron and gloves, to carry a whip and to be accompanied by a passenger or groom. 4

5 General Information JUNIOR RIDERS aged 16 years and under should provide themselves with a RED ARMBAND to be worn at all times so they can be easily identified. Date of birth must be recorded on entry form. The highest placed junior rider, in classes that do not have a junior section will receive Best Junior Rosette. YOUNG RIDERS aged 17 to 21 years old should provide themselves with a WHITE ARMBAND to be worn in all ridden classes so they can easily be identified. Date of birth must be recorded on entry form. The highest placed young rider, in classes that do not have a young rider section will receive Best Young Rider Rosette. EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBER If you need to leave a contact number for emergencies whilst you are away from home, there will be a mobile switched on from 7am to 11pm each day. The number is It is NOT possible to make contact via the showground office. ACCOMMODATION. Accommodation on the showground is available at additional cost either by booking rooms or camping. There are a number of local places to stay. FIRST AID facilities will be supplied on, and of the show. If you require hospital treatment and do not have a car, please telephone when you are discharged and volunteer will collect you. Safety The Society require us to appoint a Safety Officer. Please make life easier for everyone by thinking about safety at all times whilst on the showground and respecting any instructions from committee members. STALLIONS All competitors are reminded to allow stallions and their handlers enough space for safety. Whilst it is the responsibility of the owner that any entire brought onto the showground is totally under control, other owners, handlers and riders must behave sensibly and allow adequate room for stallions and colts. DRIVEN TURNOUTS are to keep to the designated areas on the College campus VEHICLE ACCESS Follow signs into the lorry park. Please park tidily to allow others adequate room. PARKING only in designated areas PHOTOGRAPHER Only the official show photographer will be allowed in the ring during any class JUDGES AND STEWARDS will need to park in the designated area near to the DISABLED DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS who have a disabled persons parking permit may apply for passes to park adjacent to the. NO OTHER VEHICLES WHATSOEVER MAY USE THIS ACCESS. 5

6 Rules of the Show 1. All ponies entered must be registered with the Haflinger Society of Great Britain, within stud book Section 1, classes 1-4, and be owned or on long-term loan or lease to a member of the Society. 2. All competitors in the ridden, driven, junior handler classes must be a fully paid up member of the Haflinger Society of Great Britain. Entries will not be accepted from non-members with the exception of handlers in the In Hand breed classes and grooms in the driven classes but the owner must be a member. 3. All horses must be accompanied by a valid passport. Passports must be presented to the Secretary at the beginning of the show. 4. Vaccinations for flu and tetanus must be up to date for all horses at the Show 5. All competitors must be ready to enter the ring when called; the judge reserves the right to refuse entry to latecomers. If you are delayed in another class you must send a representative to the steward of your next class explaining your position. Please note that classes may be held ahead of the times displayed in the Secretary s Office, but will not be held up for late entries. Please listen to announcements during the day in case the class time changes. You are responsible for being at the right place at the right time. 6. The judge s decision is final at all times. 7. Any horse or driving turnout not sufficiently under control or considered unsafe shall be removed from the ring immediately at the request of the judge. 8. The Show Steering Group reserves the right to cancel, combine or divide classes. 9. Warwickshire College reserve the right to cancel, add to or amend any of the Competitions as they see fit due to weather conditions etc. 10. Neither Warwickshire College, nor any of its representative or staff or the Society shall be held liable for any accident, injury or damage or loss whatsoever, howsoever caused to any person animal or property at any time. 11. A junior or young rider competitor must be able to provide proof of age to the organisers should there be any doubt as to his/her eligibility to enter a class. Ages will be taken as from the day of the show. A responsible adult, who must be named on the entry form, must accompany juniors. The minimum age for juniors is 8yrs old 12. Any competitor wishing to make a protest, in relation to any horse exhibited at the show must make the same in writing, to the Show Secretary, within thirty minutes of the class being judged and deposit the sum of 25 which may, at the discretion of the Show Steering Group, be forfeited to the Society fund if the objection is disallowed. 13. No horse under the age of four years may be ridden on the venue 14. No competitor / rider shall allow a stallion for which they are responsible as owner, lessee, authorised agent or rider to compete or be prepared to compete, in any competition without taking adequate precautions to ensure competitors, officials or other members of the public are not put at risk of injury. No stallion may be ridden on the showground or in competition by children under the age of 14 years. 15. All show jumping classes (excluding the Pairs baton relay) will be run under BS Rule 287 (single Phase). 16. The Pairs Baton Relay will be run under the BS Top score BS Rule classes will judged in accordance with British Rules The wearing of spurs is forbidden for riders 16 years and under in all classes with the exception of Side saddle riders may wear a single spur. 19. Spurs may not be worn, or whips used, by any competitor in the following classes RDA, Gymkhana, Handy Pony, Western 20. Whips are not to exceed 30 /75cms in length in any class except or when riding Side-Saddle. Misuse of a whip will not be tolerated and judges will be asked to notify the Show Secretary of any such incidents, whether in or out of the arenas. Persistent offenders may be excluded from the show. 21. Martingales are not allowed in any ridden class. 22. Once a class has started no change of rider or handler will be allowed. 23. Juniors riders 16 years old and under must wear back protectors when jumping. It is recommended that all riders wear back protectors in jumping classes. 24. All trophies are perpetual and remain the property of the Haflinger Society of Great Britain. Trophies must be professionally machine engraved at the winners expense before return. Trophies taken home are the responsibility of the person who signs for them up to a maximum value of Stables may only be occupied by those who have booked and prepaid for them with show entries and allocated by the Show Secretary. You may request stables adjacent to friends on your entry form. No change of allocated stable is permitted without the approval of the show secretary. Owners stabling their horses on the showground accept liability for any damage caused to their stable(s) A deposit of 10 will be paid per stable occupied at the time entries are made. All stables will be inspected on departure and providing the stable is left in a clean and tidy state the 10 will be refunded to the person who paid the initial deposit. 27. No horses to be administered any medical substance without evidence of an accompanying letter from a Veterinary practice verifying treatment course. Random testing will be undertaken if thought appropriate. 28. Please dispose of your litter thoughtfully in bins provided. 29. Please do not muck out into car parks. 30. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas, and prohibited around the stable blocks. 31. All dogs must be kept on leads. If dog owners do not clean up their own dogs mess, this privilege will be removed. No dogs allowed in the stable blocks. 32. All horse and ponies must only move through areas shared with pedestrians at walk. 33. Children must be under adult supervision at all times 34. All competitors/riders must wear correctly fastened hats to current approved safety standards. The only exception is in the Side Saddle class and those riding side saddle in Concours D elegance. The wearing of Beaglers IS NOT permitted in any class regardless of the experience of the rider. 35. Correct riding and driving attire must be worn in the ring when competing, or in the case of handlers, grooms and dressage / riding test callers, correct stable dress may be worn. The stewards may refuse entry to anyone not properly attired. 36. Driven turnouts are required to keep to designated areas 37. Entries received after the close of entries will be required to pay the stated surcharge before they are allowed to compete. 38. Reimbursement of entry fees will only be considered if a doctor s or vet s letter is supplied. The Show Secretary must be notified prior to the commencement of the class. Stable, straw/bedding and evening meal tickets cannot be reimbursed unless the Show Secretary is notified at least 14 days prior to the show. Efforts will be made to sell surplus evening meal tickets, but this cannot be guaranteed. An administration fee of 10 will be deducted from any refunds given. 39. It is a condition of entry that all competitors, exhibitors, families and employees abide by the show rules. 40. All trophies remain the property of The Haflinger Society of Great Britain. Trophies awarded at the Breed Show must be returned in time for the following years Breed Show. Failure to adhere to this rule will result in any subsequent trophies awarded in the forthcoming year to that particular owner/rider/handler/producer remaining with the Society during that year. Please be aware that the Society will take action to retrieve trophies not returned. 6

Arena 20 x 60 Prize money 1 st - 50(and rug), 2 nd - 30, 3 rd - 20 is run as freestyle to music and to be ridden in a costume themed to match and enhance the music used. Judged in two parts Technical and Artistic (see rules on Page 13) A Prix Caprilli test is a combination of jumping and dressage performed simultaneously in the same arena. The test is in walk, trot and canter. There will be two low cross poles to be jumped out of a trot, and one small upright (not exceeding 40cm) to be jumped out of a canter in both directions. Winner of the class is the rider with the most water left at the end. Winners of the champagne must be 18yrs old and over!! judged on overall entertainment value. The Pas Seul consists of a solo musical display ridden either astride or side saddle in a standard 20x60 metre dressage arena. Any costume, movement and music is allowed. Any bridle appropriate to costume or theme is permitted. 2. A maximum of 2 dismounted persons may accompany the rider in order to enhance the theme. Only the rider is required to stay within the marked arenas 3. Props may be used but are not obligatory, performers will not be penalised if they do not have props or helpers. Props must be set up within 2 minutes allowed between the end of one display and the start of the next. They will be stored at the direction of the arena steward. Performers will provide their own arena parties to move props 4. Music must be between 4 ½ and 5 minutes and will be timed from opening to closing halt 5. Compulsory movements are Walk (minimum 20 metres), Trot, Medium Trot, Canter and Medium Canter on both reins. All types of additional movements may be used but degree of difficulty may not always gain higher marks 6. Marks will be awarded out of a total of 100, consisting of 10 for each of the following elements Artistic Judge Theme, costume and characterisation Correlation of pace with musical rhythm Symmetry and interaction of partnership Music arrangement/accompaniment Entertainment value and ability to hold interest Technical Judge Paces, Freedom, regularity and impulsion Submission, lightness and ease of movements Composition of display Choreography and incorporation of music General impression If there are equal total marks, the rider judged to have higher marks for entertainment value and ability to hold interest will take the higher place 13
