2 VOLUNTEER TIME LET S BE CLEAR! As you know, IEO members wishing to qualify for year-end awards are required to volunteer for one full work day or two half work days at a club show, clinic or other event. Effective for this 2015 membership year, IOUs, free memberships and requisite service days will be awarded as follows: Board Members will automatically receive credit for a full day toward their volunteer requirement, but will not be eligible for IOUs. Committee Members will automatically receive credit for ½ day toward the volunteer requirement and will receive an IOU ($2.50) for the remaining ½ day of volunteer time when logged. Show Managers and Show Secretaries will receive free memberships for the following club year, but they are not eligible to receive IOUs for the show they manage or serve as secretary. Show/Event volunteers will receive credit for the volunteer time (day/half day) and are also eligible to receive IOUs for same time period. Sign up for your committee service or schedule your volunteer time at one of our horseshows as soon as possible! PRESIDENT S CORNER Hi Everyone! Well here we are - its February! That means it is Committee Month, and our newsletter is full of committee updates and opportunities! Our team has been very busy developing some new and innovative approaches to club business and member services. In the coming season you will see an expanded show season, IEO bucks, gift certificates, a higher profile in the equestrian community, educational opportunities and social events. We can do lots of planning but we need a fully engaged membership to achieve our goals. What s in it for you? Good question! Aside from fun and a sense of accomplishment, I am happy to report that your committee involvement will indeed count as a ½ day toward your requisite day of volunteer time in order to qualify for year-end awards. Check out the details later in this edition! There is an old saying about member participation in clubs and organizations: 20% of the members do 80% of the work. Let s not fall into that trap. I urge you to invest your talent in your IEO. Throughout this edition of Close Contact, you will see committee updates, positions available, and some project opportunities. There are numerous volunteer positions that offer fun ways to support your IEO, learn about our sport and make some great memories!
