2 PRESIDENTS REPORT Sherry Fenton Well 2011 is all but over, where has the year gone!!! I am certain the older you get the quicker the time passes. Does anyone have any foaling news? As a further incentive to be a member of the club we now offer club members FREE For Sale advertising for their Arabian Purebred and Derivative horses, on the club s website. Please forward any advertising material to Maya Jaehne. The start to 2012 is going to be extremely busy time for the club and it s committee with the 38th A class All Arabian show at Westbury on Sunday 29th January and the All Breeds Stallion Parade at Quercus Park, Agfest Equine Arena on Saturday the 18th February, so I am unsure when we will find the time to do the next newsletter but be assured we will definitely do our utmost. We desperately need a newsletter editor if you would like to have a go at it please don t hesitate to contact me, believe me it is not difficult, especially if I can manage it lol. With Christmas almost upon us I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and the very best for the New Year. This event will be bigger and better than ever, providing excellent facilities for horse owners, businesses and spectators alike to ensure an excellent day out for everyone. All Stallion owners are invited to showcase their stallions to the public and promote both their stud and breeding program to the broader community providing them with the best possible exposure. (L) We are so pleased to announce the safe arrival of a Chestnut Filly x Shaklas Mystique. An awesome result with this being Mystique s first foal at 20 years of age. Congratulations to her proud owner Vanessa Whelan. Only one more to go and we sincerely wish Pauline & Emily Cox all the best for the safe arrival of their foal which is due very soon. Congratulations also go to Krystal Reid on the birth of a Chestnut Filly x Kantarabia Park Tiger Lilly.

Early 2010 a decision was made by Robbie and Pete to pack up from Melbourne and make a permanent move to Relbia and establish a superior service orientated business that offers many streams of options to visitors and locals alike...with one of the main emphasis being in the Arabian Equine world. Share Robbie s area of expertise and passion, assisting all comers especially novices enjoy her positive advice that is so rarely found. Robbie has assisted others in years past with Riding and Halter Training along with Show Handling and ancillary areas. Shifting Sands Arabians in keeping with our high Standards is pleased to confirm that our brand new Round Yard has been completed. It has been built to proper full size specification, with deep sand coverage that is meticulously maintained with our mechanical raking machine to ensure safety and comfort for Horse and Rider alike. Likewise, we have recently installed a Horse Crush that has its own weatherproof enclosure to aid with Equine Dentistry, Veterinary visits and the like. We have our Supreme Champion Stallion (Niarla Excitation) available to cover quality Mares We also provide a proper foaling down service for owners of Mares who are not properly experienced in foaling down, or may be away at time the Mare is due to foal down Robbie has been actively involved with Breeding, Training, Riding and Showing top line Horses for the past 40 years, and brings a level of experience and advice that is simply very rarely found. Robbie has worked as a Strapper at Flemington at an early age, her first horse was a thoroughbred Mare and then in 1979 had her very first Arabian followed up with the purchase of her very first Arab Colt Philana Hazim in Robbie has bred, shown her own and others horses. Robbie always takes great pleasure in assisting all comers, especially novices so you do have a person of rare of experience very rarely found that is always available to pass on her positive advice. This evidenced by recently having a young Lady stay on site for a week to complete her work experience assignment. Further, we have also have another local young lady to work after hours and we also provide her tips & advice to assist with her further horsemanship techniques. Robbie has so enjoyed many SPECIAL experiences over the journey, and one in particular, Robbie would wish to share with all ~ MY DAMIEN

8 In 1992 whilst living at Bulla in Victoria all our horses were stolen with the exception of our stallion Philana Hazim as he was in the house paddock. It was the largest search the police livestock squad have done but they never found the mob and we never stop searching for them ~ sadly, all to no avail. As a result Robbie became insular and went low key for a while, awaiting for that that special Arabian bug that Robbie knows everyone would identify with. In 1994 Robbie was told about a chestnut Stallion not too far away so she went to have a look at him. Attempting to buy him that day as she thought he had something special, but he was not for sale then. Some 3 months later Robbie heard from a close friend that he might be for sale, but was warned he was now in pretty bad shape. To cut the story short Robbie purchased him and had Vets and my Farrier work on him for 5 months before he could come down to the property. His name was Dowling Damien and by the time Robbie eventually got him home he was 13 y/o a paddock stallion, set in his ways and 15.1 hh. Robbie and Damien had many a run-in. Robbie had concerns he may not fulfil the potential she had recognised when originally viewing him. Then Robbie chatted to an old stockman and explained Damien s attitude problem, his advice was simple ~ just let him think he is the boss which Robbie did and slowly and patiently they became one. Damien went onto 57 shows including the Sydney national horse show, and his results were simply outstanding, coming over his career with 53 Championships and Supreme s led and ridden Robbie lost Damien 19 Jan 2005 and after all this time she still cannot think or write about him without the tears rolling down her face, such was that special bond of love and trust they had carefully nurtured together. Peter established his own Customs and International Logistics business back in 1991 being based in Melbourne. He opened his own business as he had a vision of what customers should be getting after so many years of practising as a Federally Licensed Customs Agent for other companies ALL PORTS INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS P/L was born. The standards, ethics, and culture that is so evident when dealing with ALL PORTS INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS P/L has allowed Peter to use his business acumen to make Shifting Sands a truly professional entity to transact business with. Peter has really become a late bloomer with regard to the Arabian horse and just takes so much pleasure in diving in head first and learning something new everyday from Robbie. The horses themselves are quite good teachers if you listen and observe each one individually. We do not envisage ever having a large team as Robbie did in the past, but we are only interested in TOP Quality horses to form a small and unique team. With the likes of Niarla Excitation being a super Stallion at show with impeccable conformation, our pure bred filly Lou Lou Mulahn who is starting to come into herself,

9 along with Dreampark Manikito our newly acquired purebred black Colt who thus far has won 2 mainland championships in his first 2 outings. Mani will contest 2 more A grade mainland shows in November then return home to Relbia to have a break before we bring him out to be shown locally. There are two more exceptional purebred brood mares, Tristram Malika Al Jamal and Damarla providing the necessary depth and strength to our careful breeding campaign. Quality Mares are just as important as Quality Stallions to gain high end results. The picture is rounded out with our 2 pleasure horses, Sunlea Park Davina being a Palomino Derivative Arabian Mare and her best buddy, Timbertown Hot N Spicy (Joe) our massive but gentle-as-a-mouse Paint. Whilst our Colt is currently being campaigned on the mainland, we have also a clear commitment to support the local show scene in Northern and North Western Tasmania. Evidenced by already having exhibited Niarla Excitation and also Lou Lou Mulahn. We shall continue to support the local events and hopefully encourage others to bring their beautiful horse out for all to enjoy. It s so not about winning but simply improving the standards and sharing quality horses with local like minded Arab people. Lou Lou and Mani will both be definitely attending the two shows in January here in Northern Tasmania. Whilst Troubles will be travelling to Melbourne in December in preparation for the East Coast and National championships, both being held in Sydney Feb & Mar Troubles shall then return to Relbia for a well earned rest with his herd. Peter has recently provided a two tier type of sponsorship to Tas ARAB s, and has also actively encouraged quite a few of the contacts he has made to likewise provide sponsorship. Both Pete & Robbie admire all the work Sherry puts in along with her dedicated small team of helpers. We both know that sometimes such efforts can be a thankless task, but is done purely for the love of the Arabians ~ it s been a real pleasure to have met and spent time with you Sherry. Other areas of service we have developed here locally include Boutique Accommodation, Wedding Services, Luxury Wedding Cars and more We invite interested persons to further browse for more details & pictures. 12 PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CHANGES EFFECTED BY THE AHSA RULE BOOK 2011 REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS: All horses must be registered with AHSA. Exhibitors of Purebred Mares & Stallions & Derivative Stallions need to be current financial members of the AHSA to compete. All entries must be in correct owner/lessees name to compete. This will be verified with AHSA. All entries must show their correct reg. number so we can verify thei reg. status with AHSA. IDENTIFICATION OF EXHIBITS: All horses must be able to be identified by their brands and markings in accordance with the Certificate of Registration issued by the Society and must comply with all State and Federal laws regarding livestock identification. Change of coat colour or adding white markings is prohibited and may result in disqualification. Every horse born in Australia must be branded prior to being exhibited. Age of horse: Will be taken from 1st August in the year of birth. A foal is under 12 months of age as of this date also. STALLIONS/COLTS: Must be shown by a competent handler of 18 years of age. & over PROTESTS: Any complaints will be handled by the disputes committee. A fee of $50 must accompany any complaint in writing within one hour of the judging of the class. It will be returned if protest is upheld. The committee consists of: Committee Member, Show competitor, Show secretary/ Club President (which ever is required). No DC member can hear a protest in a section of which they are competing. The judge concerned can be consulted. The resulting decision is final & binding. NUMBERS: Competitors need to come to PA box to receive their show numbers. NUMBERS MUST BE CLEARLY DISPLAYED AT ALL TIMES on either HORSE or HANDLER. WRIST BANDS: All handlers, riders, drivers, grooms etc must wear the wrist band provided to them upon completion of the Liability Declaration. Wrist bands must be worn for the duration of the event. Any person failing to complete the appropriate Declaration/ Application or wear their wrist band will not be permitted into the ring.

13 DOUBLE REGISTERED: Horses competing in Double Registered classes must be registered with A.H.S.A. and another recognised Breed Society. Proof of second registration must be produced on request. Both registration numbers to appear on entry form. BROOD MARE: A brood mare is a mare which has a foal at foot or which is due to foal during the current breeding season (i.e. between 1st August and following 31st July) or has delivered a foal registered by the Society in the previous 2 years or a Pregnancy Certificate to foal in the next breeding season. Pregnancy Certificate or A.H.S.A. documentation should be available and supplied with entries if required. If exhibiting a Brood Mare with a foal at foot, said foal must be led by a competent handler, they must not be running free next to their dam. DISCLAIMER: Tas A.R.A.B.S. inc will not be held responsible for any damage, loss or injury to or caused by any exhibit or person. We reserve the right to Combine any classes if insufficient entries in section in accordance of AHSA rule book. Reject or cancel any entry if sufficient reason. Cancel a class. Alter the time of which a class is to take place. Remove any exhibiter from ground if deemed necessary. Remove handler from ring if unsuitably presented for judging, ie. Approved helmet must be worn while riding at all times (unless otherwise stated ie costume, western & stockhorse classes.) Sensible footwear & neat & presentable attire. All classes are judged under AHSA rule book. REFUNDS: Will only be issued if: 1. Secretary is notified by phone of cancellation of entry within 24 hours of/after show & then followed up in writing with in 7 days of show. 2. Accompanied by vet/dr certificate/letter 3. 10% of entry fee will be retained for admin purposes. 4. The entry is concerning a horse already entered for show. Refunds do not extend to day entries. CLASS DEFINITIONS: State Bred & Owned: - The exhibit must have been foaled in Tasmania & owner must be a resident of Tasmania. 2 Year old challenge:- Will be based on entry money less 20%. Prize money will be allocated to 1st, second & third. Open to all sexes. Yearling Futurity: - Must be nominated through futurity program and fully paid up.

14 Exhibitor must be a financial member of Tas Arabs. BREEDERS GROUP, SIRES & DAMS PROGENY CLASSES: - Are held following Supreme Judging & prior to lunch break & can be entered on the day. Entries can be a mix of Pure & Derivative with 2 or more entries required. PRIZES: All prizes must be collected on the day or otherwise be forfeited. TO COMPETITORS: 1. A Judge should never refer to a competitor by name. Exhibits are to be called in by number or colour. 2. A Judge should not converse with competitors. If a competitor requires information it must be relayed through the Steward. 3. A competitor may speak to a Judge after having arranged a suitable appointment through the Ring Steward or other Show Official. The Judge should receive such a competitor in a courteous and polite manner but always in the presence of a Steward or Show Official. 4. Judges should not discuss the sale, purchase or lease of any horse with an exhibitor before or during a Show at which they are officiating. 5. A Judge shall not visit the exhibits lines with owner/s or exhibitors nor inspect or discuss any horse entered in the show or contest prior to the judging.
