2 2018 Professional Cattlemen s Bull & Female Sale Cattle with Something EXTRA! Dear Friends and Customers, We are excited to bring you the second edition of the Hunt s H+ Brangus Bull and Female Sale! Our first sale last year was a great beginning to this new chapter in our farming story. While not new to selling Registered Brangus bulls, it was our first time hosting a sale by ourselves. We had great help from our Cooperating Partners, Hibberts Brangus, and Bunch Brangus! Andrew Conley, Ben Spitzer and Garret Thomas all contributed in signifi cant ways that allowed us to have initial success and to follow that effort with an even stronger offering of animals this year! We also were very encouraged by the kind words and support of our local Red Carpet Cattlemen organization. The bulls from last year s sale went to six states. NINE commercial cattle ranches purchased multiple bulls in the sale! That indicates to us that profit-minded cattlemen found multiple bulls to consider while improving their ranch genetics. If you will be in the market for one or more bulls for your ranch this spring, plan to meet your genetic needs at our sale! No need to drive all over when we can be your one stop shop! Why were so many quality bulls available for discerning ranches to choose from here at Hunt s Brangus? The answers are various but simple. First, we provide the commercial rancher with genetic consistency! We do not chase fad bulls as our AI sires. We simply stay with a proven genetic plan! The genetic consistency in our bulls is reflected in our females which in turn improves our cow herd genetic consistency. It is a growth spiral that is profi table to us and to our customers! Second, we provide carefully gathered data that they can be confident in on all our bulls and heifers born at Hunt s Brangus. All animals born here are kept until weaning for the purpose of accurately reflecting the dam performance and growth traits of the sires used. We do not play games with birth weights, contemporary groups, or ratios. The numbers are what the scales say they are every time. This approach allows us to collect ALL relevant data and report it to our breed for calculation in EPD reports. This results in more accurate data for us as we make culling decisions and extreme confidence in our customers as you compare our animals with one another and with other Brangus bulls while making purchasing decisions. We have adopted the use of genomic enhanced EPD on all bulls and heifers to add further confidence to the customers considering bulls this year! Third, the 3 AI sires we use and their sons in use on our farm, ALL provide live calves, growth, maternal excellence, and carcass quality. Of course their off-spring display these qualities in different measure and that comes across in their individual performance and EPD report. However, the balanced pursuit of birth weight, growth, and carcass quality all while simultaneously pursuing soundness, results in the right kind of animal. Moderation is valuable in many areas of life! Chasing extremes in ranching leads to trouble quickly. We pursue excellence through the consistent application of sound breeding decisions made with regularity over a long period of time! We like what we see and our customers do as well! We believe that this multiple trait approach will put something extra in your herd so that you can also have something extra left in your wallet at the end of the day. We are committed to your success in the cattle business. We believe when you see the + at the end of our brand, you will begin to equate it with $ in your pocket on sale day!!! So in our way of doing math H+ = $ in your wallet. That is something extra for you. Sincerely, The Hunt Family

4 RESERVE SALE POLICY In order for us to offer you quality bulls at auction year after year, we must insure that we recover the costs of developing quality bulls. We pledge to offer you a quality animal in a fair auction environment. We do this in a straightforward manner by letting you know our base price up front. All bulls will be offered for auction with a minimum sale price of $2,500. The high bidder as determined by the auctioneer will be the purchaser of the bull. However, no bull offered in this sale will ever be offered for sale at less that the beginning bid price. If any bulls are not sold they will be available for $2,700 immediately following the auction and will remain for sale at that price on our farm until sold private treaty. RETAINED-INTEREST BULLS We reserve the right to retain a 50% revenue sharing semen interest on any bull sold. Bulls are in your possession and under your control for natural service and you get 100% of the salvage value. We will continue to own half interest in bulls for the purpose of collecting and marketing semen, as well as using semen in our herds. While it is unlikely large amounts of semen will be collected or sold for many bulls, we need that as an option on bulls sold. As a buyer and at your option, you can also have a 50% revenue sharing semen interest and participate in revenue from semen sales. We have developed a Bull Partnership Agreement spelling out further details. Buying a retained-interest bull obligates you to that agreement only for semen collection and sales. To avoid any misunderstandings, if you have any questions at all, please ask. If you chose not to be involved with semen sales, we still reserve the right to collect and market semen on any retained interest bull. Lots 2, 5, 6, 23, 35, 37 and 41 all sell with Hunt s Brangus retaining ½ ownership, buyer gets ½ ownership and full possession. Bulls will sell by catalog order with any exceptions being printed in the Sale Day Supplement Sheet and announced from the Auction Block. The Hunt s Brangus family and its Cooperators would like to dedicate this year s sale to the memory of our friend, neighbor, and fellow cattleman, Trent Thomason. While Trent has left this world for a better home, those of his family and friends left behind will not soon forget his contributions to this community! Trent s smile, his friendship, support of our community schools, and life-long work in agriculture will continue to be remembered and IN MEMORY will take his legacy into the future. His family chose to establish a scholarship fund upon his death for the purpose of helping high school graduates who desire to further their education in the fi eld of agriculture. In honor of Trent s memory and in cooperation with the Thomason Family s vision, we at Hunt s Brangus pledge 1% of the sale of each animal in this sale toward the Trent Thomason Scholarship Fund. Sincerely, The Hunt Brangus Family CALVING-EASE BULLS Over the years we have become more and more conservative on which bulls get fl agged as Calving-Ease Bulls. We have adopted the philosophy that it is better for us to have stricter guidelines than for you to be sorry at calving time. Obviously there are no guarantees for preventing diffi cult births in heifers. Even the most proven Calving-Ease Bulls of any breed will sire a large calf every so often. However, this information is meant to serve as a guide for managing risk of calving diffi culty in your fi rst-calf females. Our goal is to help you eliminate heifer calving problems to the best of our ability. REMEMBER: Compare Brangus to Brangus No across-breed EPD comparisons can be made! Bulls indicated by the calving-ease fl ag symbol in their data block are considered to be low-risk bulls for calving diffi culty. BUT, let s get real on calving ease! Our calving-ease bulls are meant to be used to breed virgin heifers such that they will have little or no calving problems with their fi rst calf. The other bulls in our catalog are very appropriate for use on cows that have already had at least one calf. There are almost no bulls in the entire Brangus breed that cannot be used on mature cows and have no calving difficulties. In fact, because the correlation with size at birth and growth is extremely high, you would be losing growth (and weaning weight) if you use our designated calving-ease bulls on mature cows. In general, always use our bulls fl agged as Calving-Ease Bulls on virgin heifers for their fi rst calf and use the other bulls on any mature cows in your herd. On the other hand, a calving-ease bull to breed virgin heifers can be a God send. 2 Hunt s Brangus

5 Bulls designated with the Calving-ease Flag are felt to be Low-Risk Bulls for calving difficulty and are suitable for use on fi rst-calf females. 1. Calving Ease Direct EPD is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indictating greater calving ease in fi rst-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease which a sire s calves will be born when he is bred to fi rst-calf heifers. 2. Birth weight EPD predicts calf size and calving ease. 3. Weaning weight EPD predicts preweaning growth potential. 4. Yearling weight EPD predicts overall growth potential and postweaning gain. 5. Milk EPD predicts the maternal contribution a bull passes to his daughters for milk production and mothering ability. 6. Total maternal EPD predicts the overall weaning weight of calves from daughters of a bull due to growth potential as well as milk production and mothering ability. 7. Calving Ease Maternal is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in fi rst-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire s daughters will calve as fi rst-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires. 8. Scrotal circumference EPD predicts testicle size. 9. Ribeye area EPD predicts muscling. 10. Percent intramuscular fat EPD predicts marbling and quality grade. 11. Fat EPD predicts external fat thickness and yield grade. 12. To make it easier to evaluate, the percentile ranking is shown below each individual EPD. This is a great way to understand where the individual ranks in the breed for that particular EPD. For example, where it shows 10%, this means that particular EPD value is in the highest, or TOP 10%, of all non-parent bulls in the entire breed. (A 10% for BW, however, means lowest, or lightest.) 13. Actual birth weight within 24 hours of birth. 14. Weaning weight adjusted to 205 days of age and for age of dam. 15. Ranking of individual 205-day adjusted weaning weight in relation to average adjusted weaning weight of weaning contemporary group of this calf. The contemporary group has an average ratio of Average daily gain (pounds per day) during Hunt s Brangus Performance Growth Test. 17. Lifetime weight per day of age (actual weight divided by days of age) at the end of Hunt s Brangus performance growth test. 18. Ranking of individual WDA in relation to average WDA of the entire test group, which has an average ratio of Yearling weight adjusted to 365 days of age and for age of dam. 20. Ranking of individual adjusted 365-day yearling weight in relation to the average adjusted yearling weight of yearling contemporary group. The contemporary group has an average ratio of Yearling frame score adjusted to 365-days of age. Ultrasound measurement of rib eye area, which is indicative of muscling and positively correlated with retail beef. 26. Ranking of individual adjusted 365-day rib eye area in relation to the average adjusted rib eye area of the yearling contemporary group. The contemporary group has an average ratio of Ultrasound measurement of percent intramuscular fat or marbling in the ribeye muscle which is a predictor of quality grade. 28. Ranking of individual adjusted 365-day percent intramuscular fat in relation to the average adjusted percent intramuscular fat of the yearling contemporary group. The contemporary group has an average ratio of Ultrasound measurement of fat thickness at the 12th rib, which is a good indicator of yield grade. 30. Ranking of individual adjusted fat thickness at the 12th rib in relation to the average adjusted fat thickness at the 12th rib of the yearling contemporary group. The contemporary group has an average ratio of 100. NOTE: All ultrasound scans (25-30 and 38-40) are adjusted to 365 days of age. For your convenience, non-parent breed average are on each page. 19 BEEF CATTLE HERD HEALTH We and our cooperators take very seriously our commitment to provide you with a healthy animal and to minimize the risk of introducing disease into your cow herd. The State of Georgia is a Brucellosis-free and Tuberculosis-free state. All bulls and heifers have been earnotched and guaranteed to be Negative for PI-BVD by IDEXX Antigen Capture Elisa (ACE). We have genomically enhanced the EPD s on every animal available in the sale. The catalog provides all information we have regarding their status as carriers or possible carriers for any known genetic condition in the Brangus breed. All bulls have passed a stringent Breeding Soundness Exam by our herd veterinarian and test negative for Trichomoniasis. Health Papers (Certifi cate of Veterinary Inspection) will be provided at no charge to buyers in order to allow shipment to Anywhere, USA. WELCOME FROM DR. BRANNON RICKMAN Welcome to the spring 2018 Hunt H+ Brangus sale. My name is Dr. Brannon Rickman and I am the herd veterinarian for H+ Brangus and this spring s sale veterinarian. We at Murray County Veterinary Services have been providing care and treatment to the Hunt s herd since its initial inception and re-inception. The Hunts have striven to provide well-managed and top-notch cattle by utilizing excellent seed stock, full and comprehensive vaccination protocols, and certifying the sale bulls as sound breeders and free of infectious diseases such as Johne s and Trichomoniasis. Vaccination protocols are central to the herd health program here at H+ Brangus. The protocol consists of modifi ed live vaccines against IBR, PI3, BRSV, BVD, and 5-way Lepto. Also utilized is a 7-way clostridial vaccine. All heifers are calfhood vaccinated against Brucellosis between 4 and 12 months of age. Camplylobacter (Vibrio) is given to all yearlings. Cattle are also dewormed regularly and specifi c attention is given to prevent parasite resistance. A high quality mineral mix is also provided at all times as well as yearly and pre-breeding vitamin A and D injections. All bulls that are to be sold today have passed a semen quality check and breeding soundness exam as outlined by the Society for Theriogenology. As such, all bulls produced semen that had greater than 30% motility and greater than 70% normal cells. Any variation in the percentage above 70% is NOT necessarily indicative of a greater or lesser degree of fertilization. All bulls have been screened for Tritrichomonas and tested negative by PCR analysis. All laboratory tests were performed at the University of Georgia Diagnostic Laboratory in Tifton, GA. Electronic interstate health paperswill also be provided on all cattle sold. These can be picked up at the conclusion of the sale. I will also be available on sale day for any questions you may have about H+ Brangus herd health program. Sincerely, Brannon Rickman, D.V.M. Murray County Veterinary Services 344 Duvall Rd.
