4 Introduction cont. Under EU legislation, free movement of registered horses is possible (2009/156/EC) EU situation is almost a blueprint for some elements of the HHP concept

5 Objectives Key objective is to find an approach to allow HHP horses to travel easier at global level, in line with OIE standards and global mandate To minimise the risk of disease spread

23 Conclusions Clear socio economic benefits can be gained from the expanding HHP horse industries, particularly for nonclassical countries/regions Veterinary Services complying with OIE standards are essential to the implementation of the HHP concept and to provide credible certification Veterinary services are encouraged to work with industry organisations (e.g. IFHA and FEI) through Public-Private Partnerships
