1 Newsletter March 2015 President Bill Terry Chief Instructor Michael Pelonzi - (978) pres@hwrgclub.org - instructor@hwrgclub.org Vice-Pres. Bob Young Range Officer Joe Santarelli - vicepres@hwrgclub.org - range-off@hwrgclub.org Secretary Paul Rullo Range Const. Officer Jim Maccarone - - secretary@hwrgclub.org - range-const@hwrgclub.org Treasurer Ronayne Schild treasurer@hwrgclub.org Newsletter Editor Kevin Street - newsletter@hwrgclub.org The Hamilton Wenham Rod and Gun Club meets the third Tuesday of each month. The last meeting was March 17, 7:30 the Hamilton Legion Hall, 37 School St., Hamilton, MA Visit our website for club news and to see updates to the club calendar: Club Website Club Calendar - President s Message: Inside This Issue The February work party could not be held on the regularly scheduled day because the road had not yet been plowed. The road was cleared during the week and the call went out for help the next Saturday. The usual hard workers showed up and busted their chops to clear the ranges and clean snow off roofs so you could shoot. Special thanks to my two sons who shoveled like machines, even though they are not even members, to Dave Gelineau who brought his snow blower, Jim Dudley who brought his tractor, and the crew from the Marsh Rats who helped shovel out the shotgun range! Speaking of the shot gun range, our own Kalil Boghdan coordinates many creative shoots at the shotgun range. One is an annual turkey shoot which was held a few months ago. NO turkeys were harmed during the shoot, just in case you were worried. Shooters won $25 grocery gift cards for hitting the most clays of a different color. In the past shooters have donated the cards to area residents who are less fortunate. As is customary, several shooters opted to donate their cards. We received a nice thank you card from a local food pantry that received the cards. Many thanks to the shooters that donated their cards; for your generosity and for helping our Club look good.
2 We have been collecting brass and lead from the rifle and pistol range. Normally when we get a decent quantity we bring it to a scrap dealer and the money we get goes into our Club coffer. We have decided to offer the brass at a fair price. Interested members should contact myself or Bob Young. We MAY offer it by the bucket you buy a bucket, sort out what you want then scrap the rest, or we MAY offer it sorted by the pound. Depends on the interest and volunteers at the work party who can separate it. We did not get an official announcement posted in a timely manner for the Annual Game Dinner, so we will host our Annual Game Dinner at the April meeting on April 21st. Set up will be at 5:30 so that the dinner can start at 6:30. The business meeting will begin at 7:30 as usual. Bring a dish you have made with game you harvested to share with fellow members. Don t have enough to share? Bring a vegetable dish, salad or dessert (Homemade PLEASE!) to share. This dinner is always a great time, no one goes away hungry! To sweeten the deal we will be raffling off a firearm to help increase your shooting pleasure! If you wrote a letter to protest the proposed ban on green tip 5.56 ammo, thank you for your efforts! See the paragraph below from the NRA-ILA. Chris Cox, Executive Director of NRA-ILA criticized the dishonest campaign to ban this common ammunition: The lies used to justify the ban were shameful. This proposal was never about law enforcement safety it was about the Obama Administration s desire to pander to billionaire Michael Bloomberg and his gun control groups. Since they haven t been able to ban America s most popular rifle, they are trying to ban the ammunition instead. Since the BATFE announced its plan to ban commonly used ammunition less than a month ago, the NRA rallied its five million members and tens of millions of supporters across the country in strong opposition. In addition, the NRA worked with congressional leaders in both the U.S. House and Senate to oppose this misguided proposal. The NRA would like to thank House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley and House Commerce, Justice, Science Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman John Culberson for leading the fight against this unconstitutional attack on our Second Amendment freedoms, continued Cox. This was a significant victory for our five million members and tens of millions of supporters across the country. Make no mistake, this fight is not over. We will remain vigilant and continue to fight against President Obama s attempt to dismantle the Second Amendment, concluded LaPierre. See you around the Club! Fairfax, Va. The National Rifle Association (NRA) was instrumental in stalling the Obama Administration s initial attempt to ban commonly used ammunition for the most popular rifle in America, the AR-15. The announcement that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) will suspend its proposed framework to ban M855 ammunition validates the NRA s assertion that this effort was nothing more than a political maneuver to bypass Congress and impose gun control on the American people. "Today s announcement proves what we have said all along this was 100% political. President Obama failed to pass gun control through Congress, so he tried to impose his political agenda through executive fiat. But every gun owner in America needs to understand Barack Obama s hatred of the Second Amendment has not changed," said Wayne La Pierre, Executive Vice President of the National Rifle Association. ~ Bill Terry Quote for the month: I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle. ~ Winston Churchill Video for March:
3 General Membership Meeting Minutes February 17, 2015: Meeting came to order at approximately 7:30pm. In accordance with custom, the meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance followed by a moment of silence to honor all our deceased members and for all men and women who served in the armed services; that have lost their lives; or are still fighting for our freedom. Board members present were Bill Terry, Jim Maccarone, Paul Rullo, Ronayne Schild, and Bob Young. 19 members attended the meeting. Please remember to sign in prior to the meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm. Secretary Report: Annual Club renewals are being received. The fish propagation permit from DFW has been received. Treasurer s Report: No report Range Officer Report: No report Range Construction Officer Report: Thanks ~ Jim As many of the members know, there was no scheduled work party for February due to limited access to the club. Above average snow fall created a situation where we were not able to enter the club with our usual snow removal equipment. We were relying on the town of Hamilton to gain access to the club grounds. They came through for us and when we were able to, we held a special snow removal work party to clear the club. More than a dozen hearty members cleared snow from roof tops and walkways to get the club operational again. Many thanks to those who came out to help. March will hopefully see us all back at the club. We will address any remaining snow removal issues as well as continue with work in progress in the pistol house and other locations. See you at the club soon. Chief Instructor: No meeting report Upcoming classes are posted on the Club Calendar when notice is given. The best way to stay abreast of upcoming Safety classes is to contact our Chief Instructor directly as most classes are intermittently posted to the calendar as only when the instructor provides notice. Call for New Members: One new application for membership was received, reviewed, and unanimously approved by general vote. Orientation will take place at the Club during the next work party. New Business: Access is limited due to the snow. Old Business: The upcoming work party will include snow removal. The wheel chair fund will be organized through the club. We had hoped to
4 participate in a program already developed. However, that organization would not allow the club to know who would receive the gift. We decided to not get involved with them. Good of the Order: Should you have any questions about the changes identified in this communication, please contact the DCJIS Firearms Records Bureau at Please see the complete letter from the state, which is attached to your Newsletter .
