3 Gun Safety Club Policy Any member, who is found to be handling a gun in an unsafe manner, or shooting into a safety zone, will be immediately disqualified from competition and will lose their gunning privileges for any other club events. No live gun ammunition is permitted after club events. Once revoked, gunning privileges may be reinstated 1) After the member provides the Board with proof of completion of an approved Hunter Safety Course 2) At the Board s discretion. 6 Eldridge Hardie Art of a Life in Sport at The Wildlife Experience For Immediate Release Eldridge Hardie Art of a Life in Sport, a one-man exhibit of more than thirty original oil, watercolors, and drawings covering four decades of this preeminent sporting artist s work will be displayed at The Wildlife Experience in Parker, Colorado, a short drive from downtown Denver. The exhibit opens June 16th and runs to September 3rd. Hardie will give a visual presentation and tour of the gallery at an evening reception on June 19th. Hardie has long been well known to collectors of fine sporting art for his authentic portrayals of angling and hunting experiences. In 2011, he was the featured artist at the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition in Charleston, South Carolina. He has also been honored with the first ever retrospective exhibit at The National Bird Dog Museum. He has exhibited at the Prix de West Invitational at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum, Artists of America, Great American Artists, The National Museum of Wildlife Art, and the American Museum of Fly-fishing. Sporting Classics Magazine chose Eldridge for their Award of Excellence in Art. Also, the Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame names him a Legendary Artist. 8 Coming Soon: Walking Singles By Butch Goodwin, Viewpoint Columnist Butch is traveling around the country at the moment, so he suggested plucking this article from the archives and reprinting it. This time of the year is a wonderful opportunity to grab a partner and get the dogs a workout using this very simple drill. There should be no argument among experienced retriever training that teaching your retriever marking concepts is an essential part of his training development. Unfortunately, many novice trainers become so enamored with teaching running lines and handling that they occasionally overlook teaching necessary marking skills. Most beginners, due to job and family constraints, spend much of their time training alone and find that teaching blind running is training that doesn't require a cadre of helpers. After all, lining and handling can be taught by a single person utilizing a variety of welldocumented training drills; marking requires helpers to throw multiple marks in a variety of configurations. To a point that is true, but a tremendous level of comprehensive marking can be achieved by throwing singles. And, it doesn't take the setting up of sophisticated multiple marks and running back and forth, in and out of the field continually changing throwers, to work on singles and develop a high level of marking skill. Let me explain. First you ask, "What the heck is this guy talking about? What are marking concepts?" Good question. All retrievers should be able to watch the fall of a shot or thrown bird or bumper and, when sent, go to the area of the fall and hunt out the mark or follow the trail of a cripple. Pretty elementary, you think. Well, suppose the fall is a relatively moderate distance of about 50 yards across a fairly flat field at eye level when changing cover, and then immediately before reaching the location where the bird fell, the dog encounters a small piece of water or a wide ditch. What is he going to do? The answer is, unless he has been taught to drive deep through the cover and cross the "surprise water," there is a good chance that the water will act as a "brick wall"; he will probably hunt the near side and have to be handled or wind the bird to continue across. This is a marking concept.

If you have room to keep the trailer for a month please sign up at one of the club events. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO PICK UP BIRDS We need volunteers to pick up birds (Quail) from Stan before each event. His place is located on Dukhobar Road in west Eugene We also need someone to pick up ducks for the retrievers each month. QUAIL FOR SALE $5.50 each If there are any extra quail at events, they are available for purchase at the end of the day. You must provide your own carrier and equipment to get them home. It has been recommended that the word bird fee for each event be changed to dog fee as this fee covers numerous items other than just birds. It applies to equipment usage, insurance, costs to maintain trailer, fuel for quads, yearend awards, etc.
