5 Slide 5 / 212 Teacher's Notes About Unit Environment is an area where plants and animals live. Students will learn how plants and animals change their environment. If a plant or animal can find everything it needs to live in a place, we say it has adapted to that place. The animals find food and shelter, and the plants have enough food in the soil and enough water. Some animals change shape or color over a long time, so they can catch food or hide easily. All plants and animals want to thrive (live and grow successfully) in their environment.

Copy the shape of an owl, a mouse, and a piece of grain (or use real seed) onto construction paper. Have students cut out shapes. Need to punch hole at top and bottom of owl's head. Many animals have one or two senses that are more highly developed (are better).
