Burke James R Ernst Jr. James E Mraz John R Gibbs Leonard Wolter Mike Gapsch M. Wesley Burke Finally the hunting seasons are upon us. There have been years when my season had already started with a sheep hunt in Alaska. But this year dove season opener on September 1st will be the beginning. Hopefully someone out there has already started with even an archery antelope hunt. If so let us know. On Wednesday September 12th Gil Strubberg will be presenting the Program at our. Gil is our 2018 Hunter of the Year and always has a great show. At the same meeting James Harrison will be doing a coffee talk regarding fall turkey hunting. This is a don t miss meeting. The target shoot was great one. Thanks to all that helped. The weather was nice, shooting was accurate and the food was exceptional. We ended the event with a gong shoot off hand at 1 yards which was great fun and amazing how well people did hitting the hunk of steel. Inside this newsletter you will find the results from the match. Speaking of shooting matches, the 4-H Shooting Sports teams won the national championship title at the National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships in Grand Island, Neb. last month. That is a fantastic deal. The Big Game Hunters Foundation is a strong sponsor of the 4-H. Way to go. Inside you will find some information regarding a Sporting Clay Shoot they have coming up. I d like to go. Let me know if anyone is interested. Very soon the famous 52 Gun Raffle will be starting up again. This is the number 1 fund raiser for the Big Game Hunters Foundation. Many organizations such as the 4-H Shooting Team rely on our contributions. Please help us sell as many tickets as you can. Hope to see you all at the next. Hunt early and hunt often. Good luck in the field. Adios, Leonard O. 3 4-H Shooting It is such a privilege for me to be able to work with a group of talented young people like this, said Jim Sappington, University of Extension 4-H youth development specialist and state 4-H shooting sports coordinator. These young adults help each other overcome bad days both on and off the range. They re not only teammates but friends, most of them for life. Missour 4-H Don t just shoot your bow and rifle this fall, shoot some photos for the newsletter! These are our future leaders, business owners, farmers, factory workers and maybe even Olympic shooters, he added. Whatever they choose to do in life, from this point forward they ll know that with hard work and dedication, they can accomplish almost anything. Over three days of competition, s nine teams competed in three events within their shooting disciplines, developing a range of skills including leadership, self-discipline and wildlife conservation. Team members included youth from 23 counties: Boone, Callaway, Cass, Cole, Cooper, Dent, Franklin, Gasconade, Green, Grundy, Jasper, Lafayette, Lewis, Linn, Nodaway, Polk, Saline, St. Charles, Sullivan, Taney, Texas, Vernon and Warren. teams placed in the top 10 in eight of the nine disciplines: air pistol, compound archery, hunting skills, muzzleloading, recurve archery, shotgun, small bore pistol and small bore rifle. Eleven individuals placed in the top 10 in their disciplines. Major support for the 4-H Shooting Sports team was provided by Larry and Brenda Potterfield, owners and founders of MidwayUSA in Columbia, Mo. Thanks to a recent challenge gift from the Potterfields, the 4-H Foundation is partnering with the MidwayUSA Foundation to establish and begin building a 4-H Shooting Sports endowment fund. The fund will support not only the state team but also the long-term growth of 4-H youth shooting programs in. The 4-H Shooting Sports Program is one of the largest shooting programs in the nation, said MidwayUSA founder and CEO Larry Potterfield. The endowment fund through the MidwayUSA Foundation will ensure the 4-H Foundation can continue supporting young shooters for years to come. Other major support was provided by Big Game Hunters Foundation, CZ-USA, Department of Conservation, Friends of NRA, National Wild Turkey Federation, Orscheln Industries Foundation, Prairie Grove Shotgun Sports, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Sierra Bullets and Starline Brass. For a full list of results from the 4-H Shooting Sports National Championships, visit link. For more information about the 4-H Shooting Sports endowment fund and ways to support it, contact Rachel Augustine at or augustinere@missouri.edu. Fishing Report Having had enough of the 2018 s St. Louis Heat & Humidity, member Lou Rupp and his wife Pauline, headed north for a Canadian fishing trip. Their destination was an island off the northern tip of Canada s Queen Charlotte lslands/haida Gwaii in British Columba just 20 miles south of Alaska. These waters offer the most consistently abundant salmon fishing in the world. Fishing was for salmon (chincok bs., coho 7-20 lbs. and sockeye, chum, and pink 5-201bs.). In addition, the waters play host to massive halibut, lingcod and numerous species of rockfish. The accommodations are nothing short of first class and full limits were brought home. If you enjoy fishing and/or ever thought about this type fishing adventure, this trip has got to be on your bucket list. Bob Adelsberger We are in the process of changing to a quarterly physical newsletter with monthly camp notes and notifications posted to our website. If you have not received any correspondence from The Big Game Hunters Club in the last thirty (30) days please forward your address to adam@ treetopenterprises.com.
