2 It is my pleasure, as Chairman of Cycling New Zealand Schools to welcome you all to the 2018 Professionals Rotorua National School MTB Championships. We extend a warm welcome to school riders, team managers, coaches and supporters to this event. The support from the MTB community and the work that MTBNZ and other key supporters have put in over the recent years has enabled us to present this stand-alone National event. Schools cycling prides itself on nurturing and supporting talent through the schools system and providing our riders with the tools to go forth and succeed not only in sport but also in continued education and into their chosen careers. It is fitting that the event will be hosted as part of the Crankworx event which will provide the riders the chance to race at an international level event and see their heroes up close racing as showcase the opportunities available as they continue their journey in MTB racing. There is no grander stage in the southern hemisphere for igniting the aspirations of school aged participants in the sport and this year our New Zealand school students will have the opportunity to participate across three disciplines including Downhill, Cross Country and Teams Relay. 4 1.30pm: Prize giving for both races Professionals Rotorua National School Downhill (DH) Championships - Skyline Bike Park Tuesday 20 th March 3pm 5.30pm Track walk (Shuttles will be running from 3pm-5pm from Skyline Rotorua) Wednesday 21 st March From 7.30am-9am: Registration at Skyline Rotorua (or at Waipa in days prior) 8am am: Practice 12.30pm - 2pm: Race General Event Information SAFETY COMMITMENT Cycling New Zealand Schools are committed to providing and maintaining upmost health and safety standards, by ensuring that all risks and hazards associated with the event are adequately identified and managed to prevent harm from occurring to the event staff, participants and all other personnel involved in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act Please report any hazards or accidents/incidents to the Race Office & or race officials. RULES The event is endorsed by New Zealand Secondary School Sports Council and is run under Cycling New Zealand Schools Rules. A copy of the Schools Rules can be found here. REGISTRATION LOCATIONS - Sunday 18 TH March: Registration at Waipa from 1pm-3pm. For all of those competing in the Professionals Rotorua National School Cross Country, Team Relay and Downhill Championships. - Monday 19 TH March: Registration at Waipa from 7am 8am. For all of those competing in the Professionals Rotorua National School Team Relay and Downhill Championships. - Wednesday 21 ST March: Registration at Skyline Rotorua from 7.30am 9am for all riders competing in the Professionals Rotorua National School Downhill Championships. RACE PACKS Race packs (venue accreditation, race numbers and safety pins) will be issued in bulk to one school representative only. They will be required to sign their school packs outs and it is their responsibly to distribute the race numbers and other items to their riders. Please do not request individual rider pickups. FIRST AID Event First aid will be provided by Peak Safety who will be the medics for all Crankworx events. There will be an aid base station at each venue if you require assistance when not 4

5 racing. If you require medical assistance whilst not at the event over the week, below is the Local Medical Centre. Rotorua Hospital, Arawa St, Rotorua Rotorua Lakes Care, 1165 Tutanekai St, Rotorua In an Emergency call 111 EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS Please refer to School Rules here for more specific information around equipment requirements for XCO, XCR & DH. UNIFORMS Please refer the Schools Rules here for information on Uniform Guidelines. Ensure you are compliant before you arrive at the event to avoid any unnecessary stress. For any queries on this, contact PIT SITES/TENTS Schools are responsible for providing adequate shelter for their riders. Each school has been allocated a 3x3m pit site. Please ensure that any structures erected suit the conditions and that these are maintained during the competition. Schools are also responsible for removing any waste at the end of each day. Please help us in supporting our host venues and respect their property. Please note there s to be no BBQ s brought into any facility by schools. Packed lunches are fine, and there will also be a selection of food vendors on site. Cross-country/Teams Relay: Monday 19 th March, Tuesday 20 th March Schools can set up their pit sites in the blue zone below between 7:00am-8:00am on Monday 19 th at Waipa. Vehicles will be allowed on the grass to drop equipment off until 8.00am. After this time they must be parked outside of the Race Village in a designated parking area. 5

6 Downhill: Wednesday 21 st March Please collect your registration & accreditation before setting up your pit sites. Once you have accreditation you will then have access to the schools pit area. School pit sites must be set up by 9am on Wednesday 21 st March and packed down by the end of the day. SMOKE, DRUG AND ALOCHOL FREE The entire event is smoke, drug and alcohol free. Please ensure all your supporters are aware of this. SPORTSMANSHIP Sportsmanship is important at any level of Mountain biking. We highly encourage you to watch out for your fellow riders, whether they be your team mates or not. Remember if someone yells rider on your right please allow them to pass at the next possible spot that you deem is safe for yourself, and the fellow rider to pass. Please pass this onto your students, and if we hear of any foul play the competitor could face being disqualified. NUTRITION Please ensure students have sufficient fluid & nutrition for the duration of the event. Water will be readily available for all competitors. ABANDONMENT OF EVENT Please reiterate to your students that if for some reason they cannot finish the event they must tell a race official and return their transponder. 6

7 SPECTATOR TICKETS Cross Country and Team Relay events No tickets required for spectators/supporters Downhill event Spectators for the DH will need tickets to Crankworx (Rotorua locals can get in for free on Wednesday with proof of address and ID). All entrants for the DH event will receive complementary General Admission for that day only for up to 2 supporters. Tickets only provide access to the site for General admission hours. If access is absolutely required outside of these hours, please arrive with your school group and we will issue you a special wristband to allow you earlier access. If you don t do this, you will have to wait until 10am for gates to open. Crankworx tickets can be purchased here. SCHOOL AFFLIATION AND ENTRY FEES All School Affiliation fees and Event Entry fees must be paid before riders are permitted to start the event. Race Packs will not be issued to schools who have outstanding fees. Please ensure you check with your school to ensure affiliation and payment has been made. CONTINGENCY PLANNING The event recognises that there is the potential for circumstances outside of their control occurring that could result in the published event format and/or distance being adjusted in the interest of participant and officials safety. If inclement conditions exist, all decisions regarding the implementation of the contingency plan will be made by the Contingency Committee. RESULTS Results will be posted to as soon as possible after the event. Provisional results will be available on Please note these are provisional and any queries are to be made by the Team Manager only directly to the Chief Commissaire. Any Protests are to be submitted in writing (see form at back of programme) and will be reviewed by the Disputes Panel. All riders are to wear the issued race number (1 per rider) placed on front of handlebars (please do not cut or reconfigure) There is plenty of parking at the Waipa Mountain Bike car park. We do ask you drop of pit site equipment before 8am, and then park your vehicle outside of the race village. No BBQ s to be bought on site. Packed lunches will be allowed. Toilet facilities: Toilet Facilities will be available on site. Lap Guidelines: Please see summary of lap guidelines before. This will be confirmed by the Chief Commissaire after a course check on Monday. 10 TEAMS RELAY INFORMATION Event: Professionals Rotorua National School Team Relay Championships Date: Tuesday 20 th March Practice times: 8am 9am Racing times: Race am (9am call up) - Junior Boys, Junior Girls, Junior Mixed) Race am (11am call up) - Senior Boys, Senior Girls, Senior Mixed Prize giving: 1.30pm at Waipa Event Village Race numbers: Each rider is issued a number plate. Each team will share one transponder, so will swap this with their team mate at the changeover between laps. Age Groups: Junior - U16 including year 7 and 8. Senior U20. Categories: Girls, Boys, Mixed Description: Teams Relay will consist of teams of three riders who will rotate rider upon every lap in order to get to their total laps (Junior 9 laps, Senior 12 laps). Every team member will do the same amount of laps, with the winning team being the first team that gets to 9/12 laps first. Each rider is issued 1 race number. These are to go on the front of the handlebar. No cutting or modifying race plate please. Racing will commence from 12.30pm, with the start list being announced after entries close. Please remember on race morning to go to Skyline Race Office at the base of Skyline Rotorua. Park at a designated Crankworx public parking then pick up your accreditation and race plates 2

12 SPECTATORS: ATHLETE SUPPORT from the Skyline Accreditation Centre. This should be relatively empty at this time of the day, so you will have plenty of space to park / not far to carry gear to pit site. There will be NO access through Skyline, so please save yourself time and do things in the correct order. Wednesday at Skyline is generally a ticketed event. However, all Professionals Rotorua National Schools Championship entrants will receive a complimentary GA for that day only for up to 2 supporters. A list of entrants will be kept at the front gate for ticketing staff to keep track. If more than two supporters are looking to attend to support a single competitor, they will need to purchase a General Admission Ticket. Tickets can be purchased here. Each school will be allocated 2 x Athlete Support passes and one parking pass. These will provide access to Skyline on the Wednesday prior to gates opening so that technical support can be provided to the riders for the first two hours of DH training. If further Athlete Support passes are needed, please purchase an Adult General Admission ticket which can be traded for an Athlete Support pass at the accreditation centre. Alternatively, Athlete Support Passes can be purchased from the Accreditation centre (during opening hours) direct. These passes will be hand labelled. *NOTE - GA passes purchased as a Family Pass cannot be transferred to Athlete Support passes. Downhill Course Map: Please note that the Schools Downhill will follow along the same rough line as the Crankworx Downhill, however will be taped in and out to remove difficult sections and ensure the safety of the course for riders. 3
