News from the Clubhouse by Marty Clegg, Secy/Treas The regular monthly meeting of the Falls City Mustang Club was called to order by President Steve Merritt on 18 July Steve welcomed everyone to the July meeting. Marty Clegg, Sec/Treasurer, reported on the club finances along with passing out copies of the treasurer s report to everyone. Frank Hayden, Early Model VP, spoke about a WWll veteran who purchased a 66 Mustang, a 6 cylinder because that was what he could afford at the time. He drove the car for over two decades then wanted to have the car restored. He forked over $3000 for the restoration but unfortunately the car and the money disappeared. Many years later, his grandson found the Mustang and had it restored and upgraded to a 289 which is what his grandfather always wanted. The grandson then surprised his 93 year old grandfather with the car what a great story. Brenda Clegg, Membership Chairperson, reported no new members this past month but sadly we lost a very dear friend and club member, Patsy Boling. Patsy passed away unexpectedly on July 4. Steve spoke about Dave and Patsy s involvement in the FCMC and the MCA. Frank Hayden, MCA Regional Director, reported on his request to the MCA to consider offering a lifetime membership. Frank felt the MCA will possibly reinstate the 5 year membership for $200. Therese Hayden, Wellness Committee, reported on cards sent to members this past month. On past car shows and club outings, Tim Livingston spoke about the recent New Washington HS Wrestling Booster car show. Steve spoke about the Backyard Classics annual car show where the FCMC won club participation and about the Queen City Mustangers pony trail and car show. The FCMC had a good turnout at the annual Sportsdrome Speedway outing hosted by Bill and Pat Gibson. On upcoming shows and outings, the annual breakfast and poker run will be this Saturday, Jul 21. On July 28, the Indy Mustang Club will host their annual car show. The Hoosier Mustang Club will have their annual open car show on August 11. The Mustang gathering at Somerset Somernites cruise will be Saturday, August 25. And to round out the month of August, on the 31st, Backyard Classics and the FCMC will co-host a 5th Friday cruise-in at the Sellersburg McDonalds. The month of July brings the annual elections of FCMC officers. After some prodding from Steve, the FCMC officers for the upcoming year are: President- Steve Merritt, Executive VP-Bonnie Cook, Sec/Treasurer-Marty Clegg, Early Model VP-Chris Moorman, Late Model VP-Rich Cook, Current Model VP-Brandon Grant, Trail Boss-Kamos Glover, Newsletter editor-janet Grant, Membership-Brenda Clegg, MCA Regional Director-Frank Hayden, Wellness Committee, Therese Hayden and Rose Ann Schieber, Charitable Donations Committee- Pat Gibson and Therese Hayden. Steve then opened a discussion of various ways of advertising cruise-in s through social media, stressing our cruise-in is an open cruise, not just for Mustangs. No one won the $25 cash drawing so it will roll over to $75 at the August meeting. Dining prior to the August meeting will be at White Castle on Spring Street in New Albany. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. 4 2018 Queen City Mustangers Show June 29 & 30th FCMC traveled to West Chester, Ohio to the Queen City Mustangers Pony Trail and car show. We started on Friday leaving at 7:30 am to get to West Chester just in time to catch the Pony Trail. Starting at the high school we took a scenic drive thru areas around West Chester stopping at Beechmont Ford for lunch where they served hot dogs, burger and drinks after everyone got their filled we continued on to Eastfork Lake for some photos opts. We then traveled on to the War Bird Museum to see several airplanes including the P-51 Mustang. Later that evening we went to the Welcome Bash for dinner. On Saturday up early to get to the show, which started an hour later than when we got there, oops. Other than the very hot temps the show was great as usual. Steve& Nancy, Kamos won trophies in their classes. Mason won his first trophy for 20 and under. Congratulations to all. After the show and before heading back home we had dinner with Queen City at Smokin Bones. Thanks to Queen City for putting on an awesome show again this year. 5 2018 Breakfast-Poker Run Saturday, July 21st was a great day for our breakfast/poker run thru southeastern Indiana. We started with a big breakfast then headed out for our poker run. Making stops at Lexington, Hanover College, Madison History and Rail Museums, a photo opt by the new Madison bridge, North Madison, Eleutherian College and to our final stop was at the Stream Cliff Herb Farm and Winery for lunch and to go over the clues also the poker hands. The clues winner was Tim & Shermagne. Poker hand winners were 1st place Bill & Janet, 2nd place Phil & Callista, 3rd place Steve & Nancy. 7 2018 Race To Indy Car Show Race to Indy car show was just that, on Friday, July 27 we traveled to Indy via I65 the traffic was very heavy with lots of construction everywhere. Friday afternoon we went to the Street Car Takeover at the Twin Peaks Restaurant, I must say that was quite the experience. On Saturday we went to the car show at the Hendricks County Fairground hosted by the Mustang Club of Indianapolis, they pulled in 175 cars, FCMC was well represented with 10 Mustangs, would of have been 11 if Brandon hadn t got sick and had to go home. Bill, Justin, Kamos, Marty & Brenda, & Scott all got a Top 50 award, and Rich & Bonnie receiving a special award called Harley s Just Because for Late Model Mustang. On our way home we stopped at the Bonanza Steakhouse for dinner. Dinner at the Twin Peaks Restaurant. Vol. 23, Issue 8, Page 7
