Wow, where has the year gone? It's hard to imagine that the 2018 Rebel's Auto Club Car Show is just a couple weeks away. From what I am hearing it's going to be another great show. We have plenty of Sponsors, and hopefully we'll pack Pioneer's Park to the brim with beautiful cars. We're trying some new things this year, and I'm sure it'll be an amazing time. I'm so very happy to see the amount of members that are showing up at the meetings, it makes me proud to see such a good turn out. So with that said, I look forward to seeing everyone at the show, and spread the word, and let's make this years show the best ever. Thank You to everyone that has helped prepare for the Car Show, I'm not going to try and name everyone, because I know I would forget someone. So pat yourselves on the back for a job well done. 2 VICE PRESIDENT REPORT Hello REBELS! A lot going on this month! Part of my responsibility as your Vice President is finding locations for various REBELS events. Below is a quick recap of what we have for June: The next General Meeting will be on June 20th at Pioneer Park. Bring a side dish and I will cook the main course The next Ladies Night is on June 8th at Ruby Tuesday The next Executive Board Meeting is June 12th at Davinci s on 11th and G We have also added this year s REBELS Car Show Tee Shirts. Member cost is only $12 for all sizes up to XL. For anything larger than XL, add $2 for each larger size (XXL are $14, XXXL are $16 and so on). Call me at (402) with your order, or for questions on these great looking tees. The Formula SAE Group will be at Airpark on June 20 to 23. We need volunteers to help with the event. The Kansas students will be there again competing against UNL. As you probably know, Kansas has a much larger budget (over a quarter million dollars). Still, our kids still compete very well even with a much smaller amount (less than a third of the Kansas budget). Never been to an SCCA event? For the ride of your life, Click Here... Finally, I would like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that participated at the NRSCCA Tire Rack Spring National Time Trials at Airpark in May. The event went well, and the REBELS were recognized once again for helping to making it a success. THANKS AGAIN!!! Well, that s all for now, Jim McNeil, Vice President REBELS CAR SHOW UPDATE The REBELS Car Show is on Sunday, June 24, and thanks to all of you, our volunteer schedule is now full! The only slots that we can still use help with are the judging of cars around noon and also assisting with parking. You don t have to do anything...just forward the names to me, and I or a Committee Member will do the follow up. Also, if you plan to go to any car shows in May or early June, call me and I will drop off some flyers for you to pass out. Jim Jensen, Car Show Coordinator REBELS CAR OF THE MONTH If you don t recognize this 23 Ford T Bucket, you just haven t been paying attention! Of course it belongs to long time REBELS Member, Jim McNeil. Jim built the vehicle back in The engine is an LP1 out of a 1994 SS Impala Police Cruiser. It all started on 4th of July in Jim was in his back yard cutting on a piece of steel. His neighbor told his wife that Jim was building a car in his back yard. His wife replied (and we quote) That guy is Crazy as Hell! Two years later Jim gave them a ride, and he said they just couldn t believe it. But those of us who know him, know he is still what the wife said! Great job Jim! 2

3 APRIL MEETING MINUTES May General Meeting Minutes May 30 th 2018 at The Watering Hole The meeting was called to order at 7:30 by President Steve Lewis. Steve welcomed everyone to the meeting. Jim McNeil then talked about activities over the last month. Jim said there were 343 cars at Coffee and Cars. He thanked volunteers who helped at SCCA. Jim also said that he and others attended the memorial cruise for Bill Eppley. Secretary Margaret Otley gave her report. She said the newsletter deadline was June 1 st, please get any articles, photos etc. to Gary Willey by that date. Ladies night will be a week early due to the car show. It will be Wednesday June 13 th at Ruby Tuesday, 6pm. She asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes and there were none. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the minutes and the secretary s report. Coordinator Gary Weyers gave his report. Gary said there are requests from four nursing homes for cars. The information will be in his report and on the calendar. Catholic Social Services is having a car show June 16 th, 23 rd and O St. Fliers for the show were distributed at the meeting. July 13, 14, 15 will be the Mustang/All Ford show at Pinnacle Bank Arena. It s a $25 entry fee. June will be the SAE cone races. Volunteers are needed. You can sign up at A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the coordinator s report. Jim Jensen gave an update on the Rebel s car show. He said Lolo s would be catering all of the food. Judges are still needed. Jim said if you have signed up to work and you are not able to honor the commitment to please let him know. All volunteers will get a $7 meal ticket. Linda asked for Jim to confirm the hours that Lolo s will be serving food. Jim said he would check with them and let Linda know. Trophy assembly will be June 8 th at Jana and Dustin s house 1900 Sumner. Meat will be provided, please bring a side dish. Also bring a 7/16 th driver. Vice President Jim McNeil gave his report. The June executive meeting will be June 12 th 7pm at DaVinci s, 11 th and G Street. The general meeting will be a week early due to the car show. We will be meeting at Pioneer s Park on June 20 th. Meat will be provided, please bring a side. Cars and Coffee will be June 23 rd at Speedway. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Vice President s report. New Business: Jim McNeil is taking orders for the 2018 car show Tee shirt. See Jim to order. July 27 th Street Rod magazine will be at Culvers on North 27 th. Rebel s will be the host club. More information to follow. They will also be at Cars and Coffee the next day. The meeting was adjourned at 8pm. Respectfully submitted, Margaret Otley, Secretary A LITTLE HUMOR Historians have recently discovered that Annie Oakley, famed sharpshooter of the Old West, had a sister. Carrie gained some renown in her day as a singer in various Saloons throughout the West, but it was not until after her death that she was very widely known. Today, countless bars are dedicated to Carrie Oakley. AND A woman, searching for a job, inquired about the benefits. The Personnel Manager informed her they had group health and life insurance, but the costs were deducted from the employee's pay. The woman was a little upset and told him, "My last employer had full health coverage, as well as five years salary for life insurance and a month's sick leave AND they paid the full premiums!" "I can't help but asking you Madam, why you would leave a job with such benefits," the interviewer replied. The woman shrugged her shoulders and answered, "The Company went bankrupt." 3

4 COORDINATOR REPORT There are three retirement home show and shines this month starting with on Friday June 8th with Country House Residence located at 6616 South 84th starting at 10:00 am to noon. Also on Sunday June 10th at the Country House Residence located at 240 South 70th starting at 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm. Then on Monday June 11th we go to Gateway Vista located at 225 North 56th starting 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. On Saturday June 9th in Palmyra NE is the Malone Motorsports Show & Shine with registration at 8:30 am and the show from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm. All Proceeds to benefit the Children s Hospital and Medical Center. Also on Saturday June 9th in Manley NE at the Hide Away Bar and Grille is the 2nd Annual Hot Rod Fun Run with registration at 10:00 am. This run is 80 plus miles with 5 stops and is for pre 1972 cars and trucks. Another car show on Saturday June 9th in Milligan NE is the June Jubilee with registration from 9:00 am to noon. On Saturday June 16th in Lincoln is the Catholic Social Services Car Show and Shine located at 23rd and O streets from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Also on Saturday June 16th in Denton NE is the 7thAnnual American Car Show with registration from 9:00 am to noon. On Sunday June 17th in Lincoln is the 15th Annual St. Marks Father Day s Show and Shine located at 8550 Pioneers Blvd. Registration at 8:00 am and the show starting at 9:00 am. On Saturday 23rd in North Bend NE is the 9th Annual Old Settlers Days Car Show with registration from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Also on Saturday June 23rd is the Cars Coffee and Donuts event at Speedway Museum starting at 8:00 am. This will be Speedway s Day in The Hay event this month with food and door prizes. So stay all day not just in the morning. Of course don t forget our show on June Sunday 24th at Pioneers Park. On Friday June 29th through Sunday July 1st in Des Moines Iowa is the Goodguys 27th Speedway Motors Heartland Nationals Giant Car Show located at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. On Saturday June 30th in Dewitt Ne is the Dewitt Car Show with registration from 8:00 am to noon. Wednesday July 4th in Seward NE is their Annual Car Truck and Motorcycle Show with registration starting at 7:00 am to 10:00 am. In Ceresco NE on Friday July 6th is Ceresco Days All-Ford Product Show and Shine in the park starting at 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On Sunday July 8th in Lincoln is the Parts Store Show and Shine located at 2137 Cornhusker Hwy with registration starting at 10:00 am to noon. Also on Sunday July 8th in Brainard NE is the 17th Annual Pride and Performance show with registration starting at 8:00 am to noon. Starting on Friday July 13th through Sunday July is the MCA Pony Express 2018 National Mustang show at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. On Saturday July 14th in Fremont NE is the Cruisers On Main Street Fremont Car Truck and Bike Show starting at 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. Also on Saturday July 14th in Claytonia NE is their 125th Sesquicentennial Celebration Car Show with registration starting at9:00 am to noon. On Sunday July 15th at H&H Chevrolet located at 84th and L streets in Omaha is the 21st Annual H&H All-Chevy Show. Registration starting at 9:00 am to noon. In Kearney NE on July 17th through Sunday July 22nd is the Cruise Nite Weekend. On Wednesday July 18th at Wilderness Ridge Golf Course located in Lincoln at 1800 Wilderness Woods Place is Vinnie s 8th Annual Classic Car Show. Help support the Ronald McDonald House of Lincoln by collecting those little tabs you pull to open soda, soup or other aluminum cans. Bring your Pop Tops to the next meeting, and give to Margaret or Lydell Otley. HELP KEEP THIS TRADITION GOING! 4

5 Tour Nebraska was held on June 2 nd and 3 rd. The Tour was run by the NRCA, who did an amazing job of timing everything. In all the little towns and even out in the country, people were outside waving. The police even closed some intersections to allow Tour vehicles to go through. There were so many that wanted to attend, that NRCA had to close registration, after some 400 were registered! The Tour started here! Tour Nebraska 2018 (with pictures) The Tour was 600 miles over 2 days and several REBELS attended. Nick and Ron Brown drove a support truck and trailer, and ended up hauling one vehicle back to Seward for a guy whose water pump went out. Saturday saw a break in Ogallala and lunch in Oshkosh. On Sunday there was a lunch in McCook and the Tour ended in Holdrege. Rebels that participated in Tour Nebraska 2018 were: Johnny Nunn and family, Dustin and Jana Wood, Jim Holstein, Nick Brown, Ron Brown, Rod and Suzie Phelps, and Chuck and Louise Hansen. The best part of the Tour was that everyone had a good time (except of course, for the poor guy from Seward whose water pump went out). Nick and Ron Brown discussing world affairs Heeere s Johnny!
