SWMMC MONTHLY November 6, Volume 3, Issue 8 SOUTHWEST METRO MUSTANG CLUB THE TWIN CITIES MUSTANG CLUB OF AMERICA CHAPTER Getting Started The 2016 car season is over for most of us. I still have my car available for drives as the weather permits. We had a great year welcoming over 30 new members, hosting four shows, donating $2,300 to NF Upper Midwest, and having fun on a variety of drives. And we committed to hosting a national MCA show. It was a busy year. We move forward with a new President, Show Director and Cruise Director. I am thankful for the folks who have stepped up to help guide, build and lead our group for the next year, and for those that continue to work on the club s behalf when asked. Without volunteer efforts the club would not exist. Our focus for next year should be getting the discussed partnership with Prior Lake HS off the ground and growing, increasing club participation (at shows in particular), and nurturing the social aspects of the club. The last point is what has made the club tick thus far and is the secret to a successful future. I have enjoyed being club President the past four years. Thanks to all of you for guiding and following as needed. I look forward our upcoming events and another car season INSIDE THIS ISSUE Getting Started 1 9/11 Remembrance & Honor Car Show Recap 1 New Members 1 SWMMC TID BITS 2 9/11 Remembrance & Honor Car Show Pix 2 SWMMC October 27th Meeting Business 3 Recap Cruise to Crow River Winery 4 Recap Cruise to Taylor s Falls 5 Recap 6th Annual Muscle By The Lake 5 Classifieds 6 Recap Cruise Around Lake Pepin 7 Chuck Buchanan s Car Performance Upgrades 7 Financial Summary, Member Profile, Name Tags 8 SWMMC November Calendar 8 NSNMS Committee Structure so far 9 MCA Membership Changes & National MCA Show 10 New Members September & October 2016 Welcome the following new SWWMC Members: Brian & Karen Gresback of River Falls, WI and their 2001 Bullitt & 2001 SVT Cobra DeWayne & Linda Lukkasson of Maple Grove and their 2010 GT Convertible 9/11 Remembrance and Honor Car Show Recap Sunday September 11 was a great day for the 9/11 Remembrance and Honor Car Show. Over 150 cars and motorcycles participated and everyone showed their support in honoring those affected by 9/11. Thanks to Dan's Complete Auto, Lowes, Boy Scout Troop 524, The Bell of Honor, The City of Coon Rapids and Dan Hanson for their support and effort to get this show put together. The boy scouts made a lot of money selling concessions and the club raised $500 in donation for the Wounded Warriors Family Support charity. The show was so well received that the groups involved have asked if the club will host a show next year on 9/10/17. Thanks to those SWMMC members who made the show and helped run another great event. Check out the photos from the show (thanks to Jeff Mattson). southwestmetromustangclub.shutterfly.com/ pictu /336 Pix on page 2 Steve & Cindy Olson of Brooklyn Park and their 2014 GT Convertible Andy & Natalie Sieberg of Carver and their 2006 Coupe Scott & Carol Weeklund of Crystal and their 2015 GT Mark & Kristin Wilkowske of Edina and their 1965 Coupe Apple Ford Shakopee Sponsors the SWMMC 1624 Weston Court, Shakopee, MN 55379
SWMMC M ONTHLY November 6, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 8 Page 2 SWMMC TID-BITS We received our order of navy blue club tshirts. All sizes are currently available. T-shirts are $12 each. Thanks to Derf for working the logistics on the order SWMMC Embroidered Jacket Derf has purchased an embroidered jacket with the club logos. The jacket cost $82. A variety of colors & sizes can be ordered from the shop. Order by 11/28 for Xmas delivery. Contact Pete for more info. National Mustang Museum Brick The National Mustang Museum finally broke ground a couple months ago in North Carolina. They expect to be open to the public in about a year. The club voted to buy a $200 brick engraved as Southwest Metro Mustang Club, Minneapolis, MN during the September meeting. The check for the brick has been sent as our effort to immortalize the club in the National Mustang Museum.
SWMMC MONTHLY November 6, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 8 Page 3 SWMMC ELECTIONS FOR 2017 The club held officer elections at the October 27th Meeting. As can be seen below, we have a new club President, Show Director and Cruise Director. David Kronk and Ron Broekemeier were both re-elected to their respective positions. Chuck Buchanan remains as Vice President as the club has decided to elect the President and Vice President in alternating years to preserve some continuity in club officer positions. The current club leadership team is listed below: President Dan Nicewander Vice-President Chuck Buchanan Treasure David Kronk Secretary Ron Broekemeier Show Directors Mike & Beth Fredrickson Cruise Director Mark Prokop MCA Regional Director Pete Schmidt We should be grateful as a group that we have good folks willing to take on leadership roles. I know I appreciate their volunteerism. Thanks to all of the officers. The Cruise Committee is well staffed and has plans to move forward with planning events for the 2017 car season. The Show Committee needs a further 3 to 4 people to be involved in organizing and planning the club s car shows. Without a strong committee the work load on a few folks is unfair and the shows suffer from a lack of creative input. And the shows are where the club generates the funds we donate each year. Please consider helping if you have any interest. Contact Mike & Beth Fredrickson at freddie0105@hotmail.com. SWMMC By-Laws The club officially adopted the latest revision of the club by-laws at the October 27th meeting. Look for a link to the mail chimp stored document in the SWMMC Update for November 7th. SWMMC Charitable Partner for 2017 The club has endorsed a partnership with Prior Lake High School as the recipient of its charitable efforts in An in-depth discussion of options and possible involvement with the school s automotive technology and knowledge programs was held during the meeting. Ideas included donations for needed equipment, individual student scholarship(s), co-hosted car events at PLHS, cooperative activities with area sponsors, and involvement of Ford s Driving Skills for Life program. A committee of Chuck Buchanan, David Kronk, and Dan Nicewander were asked to further investigate what the school s program instructors thought of a partnership and their views on how the SWMMC could best be engaged to further youth interest in the car hobby and potential automotive careers. SWMMC Holiday Gathering January 21, 2017 Ron and Cindi Broekemeier have again volunteered to organize the club s holiday gathering. This year s party will again be at Casper s in Eagan and will be held on the evening of Saturday January 21st. Folks will pay for their meals and drinks and will likely order from a limited menu to help keep the kitchen on a timely schedule. Door prizes will be drawn for guests, the 2017 calendar of events will be distributed, and it s a great opportunity to get together while our cars are tucked away. A few volunteers are requested for set-up immediately before the dinner. More details will be sent as the party takes shape.
SWMMC M ONTHLY November 6, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 8 Page 4 SWMMC SEPTEMBER CRUISE TO CROW RIVER WINERY The SWMMC s last cruise of the 2016 season was on Saturday October 2nd. We cruised to the Crow River Winery near Hutchinson. Fourteen cars and 24 people made the trek. We met a couple new members and introduced ourselves to their friends who subsequently joined the club. The winery tour was a lot of fun and the facility is quite impressive. The owners did a nice job showing us around and explaining everything we saw. Members Mike & Carole Ackerman attended SEMA in Los Vegas the first week of Novem- Members are looking for winter car storage. Reply if you know of reasonable storage sites.
SWMMC M ONTHLY November 6, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 8 Page 5 SWMMC Cruise to Taylor s Falls and River Cruise On Saturday September 17th the club cruised to Taylor s Falls for a river boat cruise on the St. Croix River. A box lunch was served 6th Annual Muscle By The Lake Car Show Dan & Lynn Nicewander hosted another great car event on Saturday September 24th: The weather cooperated but the rain on days leading up to the gathering prevented us from using the backyard as we've done in previous years. So, we moved the event to the front using the driveway and street to bring in the rolling Muscle for a totally new experience. This ended up drawing many more neighbors and passerby's than in previous years (including kids)...so we got the word out about the car hobby even wider than we planned! When the count was done we had close to 40 cars and over 90 people who enjoyed a fun day talking about, looking at, and admiring the attendee's rides. Visit their web site for more details and many pix.

SWMMC MONTHLY November 6, 2016 Volume 3, Issue 8 Page 7 Cruise Around Lake Pepin SWMMC member Derf Hoisington led a group of ponies around Lake Pepin on Saturday October 15th. While the weather was a bit Chuck Buchanan s Car Performance Upgrades I recently brought my Mustang GT to Straightline Customs in Burnsville, for a few performance upgrades. It was either that or continue to listen to Derf heckle me (just kidding). Came into a small inheritance and thought it was be destined for a few Stang enhancements. I d heard about a custom shop in Burnsville a while ago, and as they were also close to me, I checked them out. Got the nickel tour and was impressed by the wide range of car building they did. The Owner and Production Manager seemed like great guys too. After some discussions, we came up with a blueprint for the work to be done. Starting with performance mods, I am adding new COMP NSR cams, Ford Racing ceramic headers with high-flow Cats, under pulleys and a Ford Racing air intake. Also adding a couple of cosmetic items like a new Ram Air fiberglass hood and Ford Blue Oval valve covers, plus the addition of Dynamat sound insulation on the interior floor. They will also perform a street drive engine tune that allows for actual driving conditions tuning. Pretty excited to get the finished product back in my hands. Below are some pics I took during the build process.
