1 MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT a p r i l With this edition of our Club s monthly newsletter comes the Events Calendar; members guide to having fun with our old tractors. Please check out the new events added and please, be sure to confirm all events before heading out, as things do change at the last minute. With the start of our 2016 events just around the corner, I would like to remind everyone about safety. It is extremely important we do all we can to make our events safe for everyone, including our spectators. Safety is everyone s business. If you witness an unsafe practice, behavior, or display, please bring it to the attention of the person or our safety officer. It only takes one incident to change the course of an event. I look forward to seeing as many of you as I can at these fun-filled events. Have a great season! Pam Highlights of the March Meeting The April meeting was hosted by Bill & Harriet Clark at their house in Skowhegan with 58 members present. The secretary & treasures reports were read and accepted. On May 15th through May 22nd the club is going to have a tractor display at the Auburn Mall, for more information or if you would like to display your tractor please contact Bob Hamlin. On April 20th there will be a Pulling Committee meeting at 5 pm and a Land & Building committee meeting at 6pm. The Angel building is going to be moved next to the club house and there is going to be a building coming to be used as an announcer s booth. Mike Pratt got the new distance sign and had all of the electronics we already had upgraded. They have all been sent back and came in under budget at $ Mike mentioned that he found out that Agratronix sells the units to build scales so he is going to check into it further. The pulling sled calibration is still being worked on but is coming along and expects to be ready by the upcoming pulling season. The club is in search of a tractor to use as the next raffle tractor and is open to all suggestions if anyone has or knows of a tractor. There was a vote to allow Pam to use the $50 Walmart gift card, from the tractor display there last year, to purchase auction items for the upcoming June events. Cumberland fair tractor pull has been changed to Sunday September 25th at 6:30 pm. The Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club has contacted Pam and is interested in setting up a tractor pull for the clubs to host together. A motion was accepted for Pam to plan further with the NMATC to set up the pull. The NMATC would like to hold it at the Millinocket air strip. A date and time has not been proposed yet Membership pins are in, they will be available at the club meetings and events for pick up. See you all on May 1st in Bar Harbor at the next meeting. Respectfully yours, Emily Folsom, Secretary TREASURER S REPORT (as of 3/31/2016) Balance in Checking... $16, Balance in Savings (truss money)... $13, Balance in Savings (Power s Memorial & L&G Raffle)...$1, year CD...$5, year CD...$ Total Assets...$42, Balance on loan... $16, Respectfully submitted by Evelyn Twist, Treasurer NEXT MEETING: Sunday, May 1, 2016 Host: Sandy Salisbury 54 Knox Road, Bar Harbor, Maine Sandy will provide the Kentucky Fried Chicken Dinner. Remember the rain date being on Sunday the 19th. We have confirmed that the Radio Control Cars will be demonstrating at this event. We have also lined up some very nice vendor booths. We are looking for auction items from club members and sponsors. Please bring your donations to a club meeting or contact Pam to set up a pickup time so we are able to have items tagged before the day of our event. We are looking for flea market items too. You can make arrangements to drop off flea market items starting the first part of June. We will be looking for volunteers to help with the set-up and clean-up, entrance gate, collecting money, parking display cars and spectator cars, raffle tractor ticket sales, flea market helpers, (both set-up and selling), auction runners and record keeping/money collector, and trash control. Please let Pam know if there is a specific job you would like to do for this event. Then comes our Tractor Festival: June 25 and 26th is shaping up to be a fun-filled family weekend. Primitive camping will be free for the weekend with donations gladly accepted. We are looking forward to seeing the Radio Control Pulling that is new this year. And yes, they pull a drag! Also in need of auction items for this event and volunteers too! We are looking for more antique equipment demonstrations, should you know of any, please let us know. Posters have been made for both events and members are asked to help post these around your home town.

3 SCHOLARSHIP GUIDELINES If you are graduating this year, the 2016 scholarship guidelines are below. PAINTED RED Ever wonder why so many barns are painted red? In the mid-19th century, some American farmers found they could make a cheap and long-lasting wood covering from red iron oxide, skim milk, and lime and linseed oil. This mixture gave the barn a bright-red color. It s use became so widespread that, by the late 1800s, red had become traditional for barns. FYI - The club is looking for our next raffle tractor. We have one that has been brought to the clubs attention for the cost of $ , a 1948 Ford N with a set of plows. We have had the raffle tractor for the past few years donated. Our electronic read out pulling equipment has been fixed and is in transit back to Mike Pratt. Thank you Mike for all your dedicated time in getting our club s equipment fixed up and ready for the pulling season. This will be the last newsletter you receive if your 2016 dues have not been paid. Thank you. The word tractor comes from the Latin word trahere which means to pull. At first the meaning of this word was an engine meant for wagons or other implements. In 1859, it got new meaning traction engine. All members' seniors who apply for a scholarship will receive monies. To all graduating high school seniors who are requesting scholarship money: 1. Only graduating high school seniors who are dependent(s) of MATC members are eligible to receive a scholarship in the year they graduate from high school. 2.
