This page shows a map of Liverpool city centre and shows the easiest way to get around between stations. These pages contain details of the times of your trains and rail replacement buses. Trains are running to different timetables on different days of the week so please make sure you re looking at the correct day and direction of travel. On the timetable pages, to help show you where you ve got to change from a train onto a bus (or a bus onto a train if you re going the other way), we ve shown some times in black and some times in green. The times shown in green are Wirral Line trains. The times in black are rail replacement buses. If you need any more information or assistance, Merseyrail staff will be on hand to help at station. If you need some help planning your journey, you can also call our Traveline team on They re there to help you from on Mondays to Fridays and from on Saturdays and Sundays. The Borderlands Line, between Bidston and Wrexham, is unchanged. Please see the normal Wirral Line timetable for details of Borderlands Line times. We ve tried our best to make sure that all the information in this timetable is correct. Changes can, however, be made at short notice. 3 There s major engineering work taking place on the Wirral Line During July and August, your Wirral Line trains will be affected by engineering work. We ve produced this leaflet to let you know what s going on. From 13 July to 11 August inclusive, major engineering work will be taking place on the Wirral Line. The loop line around Liverpool city centre (the section of track running from to Moorfields, Lime Street and Liverpool Central back to ) will be closed. This means trains to and from Liverpool will start and finish at James Street station. See the next page for information about other changes on 13 and 14 July and and 11 August and changes to Ellesmere Port line trains during Monday to Saturday daytimes. Why are the changes taking place? The changes are happening so Network Rail, the owner of the railway track, tunnels and signalling, can undertake important works to improve reliability and safety. How do I travel around Liverpool city centre? Don t worry... you ll still be able to travel around Liverpool city centre. Whilst the loop line is closed, special rail replacement buses will be running between, Moorfields and Lime Street stations. The Lime Street bus stop is located on Lime Street, opposite the mainline station, outside St George s Hall. If you re travelling to and from Liverpool Central station, it s just a short walk from Lime Street. During Monday to Saturday daytimes, buses will run every 5 minutes. They ll run every minutes at other times, when the trains usually run. 3

4 Beside the loop closure, are there any other changes to trains? Some other Wirral Line trains will also be changing and 14 July On Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July, engineering work will also be taking place between Birkenhead Central and and between Birkenhead North and. Rail replacement buses will run between Birkenhead Central and Lime Street and between Birkenhead North and Lime Street. and 11 August On Saturday and Sunday 11 August, engineering work will also be taking place between Birkenhead Central and and between Birkenhead North and. Rail replacement buses will run between Birkenhead Central and Lime Street and between Birkenhead North and Lime Street. 15 July - 9 August On Mondays to Saturdays from first train until about 1900, Ellesmere Port line trains will also be altered. Trains from Liverpool to Ellesmere Port will only run between Hooton and Ellesmere Port. If you re travelling to Ellesmere Port you ll need to get on a train heading to Chester and change at Hooton to catch the train from Hooton to Little Sutton, Overpool and Ellesmere Port. Trains from Ellesmere Port to Liverpool will only run between Ellesmere Port and Hooton. If you re travelling from Ellesmere Port, Overpool or Little Sutton towards Liverpool, trains from these stations will only run to Hooton. Catch one of these trains to Hooton. At Hooton, change onto a train (which has started from Chester) to take you to Liverpool. The trains between Ellesmere Port and Hooton will run every 30 minutes from first train until about 1900 on Mondays to Saturdays. At all other times, trains will run direct to and from Ellesmere Port and Liverpool. 4

Trains will only run between: and Chester (not serving the loop line); and New Brighton (not serving the loop line); and West Kirby (not serving the loop line); From first train until about 1900 on Mondays to Saturdays: Hooton and Ellesmere Port; After 1900 on Mondays to Saturdays and all day Sunday: and Ellesmere Port; Rail replacement buses will run from to Moorfields and Lime Street ( minute walk to Liverpool Central). Trains will run to their normal timetables on these days. 5

6 I use the Northern Line. Is that affected? No - the Northern Line isn t affected by this engineering work. Please remember though, as the Wirral Line won t be serving Moorfields or Lime Street stations, if you re making connections to or from the Northern Line, you ll need to allow extra time for your journey. When will Lime Street underground station open again? We re currently refurbishing Lime Street underground station. Work is going well and is on target, ready for the reopening on 22 August. Don t forget, when this engineering work finishes on 11 August, Lime Street underground station will remain closed until 22 August. How do I get to Liverpool Central station? The rail replacement bus will take you from outside station to Lime Street. It ll drop you off at Bus Stop A on Lime Street, just outside St George s Hall. From there, it s just a minute walk to Liverpool Central station. When you get off the bus turn left, cross the road and head towards the big TV screen. Keep left and follow the screen around the bend until you get to the ramp next to the May Sum Chinese restaurant. Don t go down the ramp, but turn right at the bus stop on Elliot Street. Follow this road right round the bend (you ll pass the discount UK store and Boots in Clayton Square). When you get to Bella Italia turn right, walk down Ranelagh Street and cross over the road at the traffic lights into Liverpool Central station. How do I get more information and help? You can plan your journey online using the journey planner at nationalrail.co.uk Can I take my bicycle on the replacement bus? We re sorry - bicycles cannot be carried on the replacement buses. 6

7 What tickets can I use on the rail replacement buses? Don t worry... all the usual tickets and passes that you normally use on the trains will be valid on the rail replacement buses. This includes tickets you buy from the ticket office, Saveaway, Trio, Railpass and Concessionary Travel Passes. Please remember though, you must have a valid ticket or travel pass before you travel, even when getting on a rail replacement bus. If you haven t got a valid ticket or travel pass, you may be liable to pay a Penalty Fare. To save queuing at the ticket office, please buy your travel ticket before you travel. I need some help travelling. What can I do? All the buses we ll be using on the rail replacement buses will be fully accessible. However, if you think you may have a problem using the buses, please call the Merseyrail Mobility Helpline on They ll try to make other arrangements to help you with your journey. To help make your journey more comfortable, please try and call the Mobility Helpline in advance. If you need help with your journey, you ll need to give them at least one hour s notice. They re open from 0900 to 1700 on Mondays to Fridays. If you call the Mobility Helpline, a Textphone facility is available. Can I take my pram on the replacement bus? As the buses will be fully accessible, yes. However, please remember that prams and pushchairs are carried at the discretion of the bus driver. Can I take my dog on the replacement bus? Yes. However, dogs are carried on buses at the discretion of the bus driver. 7
