3 Lingotto a car manufacturing factory The car production started back in 1915 For nearly eighty years its assembly lines produced the main models in FIAT s range Lingotto has been the symbol of Torino as a typical industrial city, based on mechanical production and dominated by a single company (FIAT) Bruxelles, Sept /05/2008 Slide 3

9 Lingotto s metamorphosis the start: 1980s industrial crisis In the 1980s the process of de-industrialisation in Torino was slow but continous Many plants closed down or were moved elsewhere FIAT itself chose to move the core of its car production reducing its presence in Torino In 1982 FIAT decided the closure of Lingotto as a factory Bruxelles, Sept /05/2008 Slide 9
