2 The holidays are over and the receipts of charitable giving and donations always take a drop. This month we would like to Spotlight Marseilles Food Pantry and the services it provides all year long, along with the announcement of a new Food Drive started specifically for after the holiday season. The Marseilles Food Pantry was started in 1988 and is managed by the Ministerial Association. It has grown over the years and has about seven volunteers that help keep the pantry operating. The work of the pantry is also shared by the local churches throughout Marseilles, with the base being at St Joseph Catholic Church located at 200 Broadway Street. The pantry has a dedicated manager, Carolyn Claahsen. She volunteers at the pantry to help maintain an important need for our community. She has dedicated her time to help residents of Marseilles in need of food and items, along with educational classes. Some of the classes that are taught include Cooking On A Budget and Healthy Food Choices. Schedules for the classes can be found on their Facebook page listed under Marseilles Food Pantry. To volunteer at the pantry, give Carolyn a call at (815) The pantry is always looking for help, and many hands make light work. Cash donations are also accepted. Financial donations allow them to purchase exactly what their guests need. The hours of operation for the pantry are the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St Joseph Catholic Church. People can come to the pantry once every two weeks. During the month of February, Connected Magazine will be holding a Food Drive. Please stop in at MTCO Communications located at 244 Lincoln Street, to drop off your donations. We hope you understand the need to keep our local pantry stocked with food. After the holidays, the need is still there but the donations become less. Hunger does not know a season, and your help is appreciated year round by many families that have a need for some assistance. Live Coverage of the Olympics NBC s primetime coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics from PyeongChang, South Korea, will broadcast live across all time zones, a first for the Winter Games. Social media will not be ahead of the action in any time zone. The 2018 Winter Olympics will be broadcast on digimax channels NBC and NBC Sports, with additional coverage on CNBC, USA Network, and the Olympic Channel. Live-streaming coverage will be on these same digimax watchtveverywhere channels, NBCSports.com and NBCOlympics.com. Primetime coverage begins on Thursday, February 8th. The Opening Ceremony takes place on Friday, February 9th. TV Channel Updates The new year is bringing several TV channel changes: Channel Updates Hallmark Drama (channel 319/480HD) has been added to the digimax Expanded package. WPWR Light TV (channel 200) featuring family-friendly and faith based entertainment programming, and WPWR Buzzr (channel 201) have been added to all packages. Tennis Channel (317/472HD) will no longer be available. Nick Jr. (channel 305/463)is moving from the Select package to the Expanded package. New Channel Assignments Numerous stations were moved to a new channel number, including FXX, IFC, ESPN News, Fusion TV, Military History, FOX Business, and more. 6 In Our Community Public Fish Fry The Marseilles Lions Club invites everyone to their Fish Fry they will hold every Friday from 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. starting February 16th and ending on Good Friday, March 30th. Menu consists of fried cod, fried pollock, shrimp, or baked cod, cole slaw, baked potato or fries, bread, and dessert. Carry outs are available. Call the club at for more information. Italian Dinner Night The Auxiliary will be hosting an Italian Dinner on Feb 3rd at the Marseilles American Legion. Social hour starts at 4 p.m. with dinner from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A menu of lasagna, spaghetti, bunga calda, salad, bread and dessert will be offered for $12 per person. A 50/50 raffle and gift basket raffle will also be offered Mark The Date Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available from Auxiliary members or contact Jill Mooneyham at The Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run will return this summer on June 16th. This day is a celebration of freedom as we honor our fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice over the past year. The Illinois Motorcycle Freedom Run attracts thousands of Gold Stars, Veterans and Patriots each year. Vegas Nite Enjoy a fun night out at the as they host their annual Vegas Nite on Big Game Sunday, February 4th from 4 p.m p.m. Food will be available from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. and consists of fried chicken, mostaccioli, ravioli, salad, bread, and dessert. Cost is $10.00 in advance or $12.00 at the door, and includes draft beer. Dine-in only. Tickets are available at the Lions Club at 511 Commercial Street. Every sent, movie watched, and video game played is made up of information. This information is measured in bytes (kilobytes, megabytes, terabytes or gigabytes) and is transferred two ways internet network to your computer (download) or from your computer to the internet (upload) in a given period of time. As of January 1st, MTCO includes 1 terabyte of data with all of our internet service products. This is enough data for 99% of our customers. 7 Ham Dinner The Marseilles United Methodist Church will host their Ham Dinner on Saturday, March 10th from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Enjoy a delicious meal of ham, cheesy potatoes, seasoned green beans, applesauce, roll, and cake. Proceeds will go toward the scouts to help pay for the cost for activities and events.
