2 In honor of National Police Week and the Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15th, we visit Metamora Police Chief Mike Todd. Chief Todd started his career with the Tazewell County Sheriff s Office in 1989 as a Corrections Officer in the jail. During this time, he got his first taste of police patrol working as a part-time police officer with the Village of Deer Creek. In 2000, he joined the Woodford County Sheriff s Office and then joined the Metamora Police department in 2003, eventually becoming Chief of Police in Chief Todd chose this profession to have a platform that would allow him the possiblity to make a significant difference in his small corner of the world. Every day, police officers have an affect on people s lives: some good, some bad. He just hopes the people he encounters feel they are treated with respect, fairness, and compassion. Some may be astonished that Chief Todd has a life outside his career. He and his wife have a furniture flipping business and a sales space in the Pleasant Hill Antique Mall. They enjoy finding old has been items and refurbishing them into one-of-a-kind treasures. He is also a die-hard NASCAR fan and loves to listen to old rock and roll and outlaw country music turned up loudly. Chief Todd was instrumental in starting the Metamora Area Business Association (MABA) and is proud how the organization, now in its 13th year, continues to grow. He pioneered MABA s Meet Your Heroes event that has grown and evolved into a premier annual community event that is truly for the entire family! Meet Your Heroes is held the second Saturday of September at the Metamora Square. The Metamora Police Department is proactive in maintaining a positive working relationship with the community, its businesses and schools. One activity is taking pizza to the high school to interact with the students and share pizza. Much thanks to Casey s General Store for providing free pizza once a month to support this initiative! A department goal is to establish a school resource officer position that would benefit all local schools, and establishing a drug enforcement office that would be consistently updated on the most current and ever changing aspects of the new drug culture. A longterm goal is to maintain a staff of officers who will stay with the village for the entirety of their career, with hopes one will succeed as Chief when he chooses to retire. To end on a humorous note, one of Chief Todd s most unexpected traffic stops took place when a vehicle was speeding into town. The vehicle was not stopping even though he had his lights and siren on. The vehicle then made a sudden turn into McDonald s and stopped in the middle of the lot. The driver jumped out of the vehicle and frantically ran into the building yelling they had to use the bathroom. No ticket was issued. On The Cover With National Police Week taking place in May, we honor two of our own: Metamora Police Chief Mike Todd and Patrol Officer Pete Merkle. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. MTCO Communications 220 N. Optimize Home Wi-Fi Just as phones and tablets improved over the years, so has the technology within wireless routers to help meet the demands of the modern world. To improve your Wi-Fi connection, the first step is to invest in a dual-band AC router that can transmit both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz networks. The 5Ghz network provides a clearer and faster connection to devices in range, while the 2.4Ghz network is useful in allowing devices that are older or further away from the router to connect. MTCO s digimax GigaCenter has this feature along with remote diagnostic tools that allows tech support to identify existing Wi-Fi interference and other issues in real time.
