1 Obituaries January 2014 Switzerland Former Swiss international archer Tania FORNI passed away on 9 January after a five-year battle with cancer. She was 44 years old. Tania was a world championship silver medallist in the compound women s division at the World Archery 3D Championships at Genoa Most recently, she was known in Switzerland as the commentator for national television at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Read more: Venezuela Rosario (Charito) TRUJILLO passed away on 7 January in Valencia, Venezuela. She was the daughter of José Manuel TRUJILLO, Honorary President of World Archery Americas, President of the Venezuelan Archery Federation and former President of COPARCO ( ). As an archer, Rosario competed at the 1983 Pan American Games in Caracas, Venezuela, and in the 1986 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. Read more: Athletes World Games Athlete of the Year The 2014 Archery World Cup Champion Sara LOPEZ is one of nine athletes or teams from sports on the World Games programme shortlisted for the award. Reigning world number one ensured the compound women s Archery World Cup Final trophy would stay in Colombia for a second year running in Lausanne last September. Read more: Clean Sport Communication of sanctions Archer Christian WYSS (SUI) has been sanctioned by the Swiss Anti- Doping Organisation as follows: Disqualification of individual and team results obtained on 6 July 2014, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes Two year suspension starting on 30 August ,270 CHF fine The Anti-Doping rule violated according to the World Anti- Doping Code, Art.2.1: Presence of a prohibited substance, its metabolites or its markers in an athlete s sample. Events Nimes 2015: SCHLOESSER Shoots Perfect Score Reigning outdoor World Champion Mike The Flying Dutchman SCHLOESSER achieved something in Nimes that no other archer has done before. He shot a perfect 600 for the 60-arrow 18-metre ranking round in international competition, breaking the world record by a single point. He went on to win the compound men s gold medal at the third stage of this season s Indoor Archery World Cup, ahead of multiple world-title holder Reo WILDE (USA). 3 January 2014 World Archery Newsletter Page 3 Korea s professional teams were out in force at an international in Europe for the first time. Both Hyundai Mobis and Hyundai Steel sent a squad, to accompany the now usual attendees from Team LH, and left with a medal haul. Five of the six recurve podium spots went to Korean athletes. The highlight match: a gold medal final in the recurve men s competition, in which Olympic Champion OH Jin Hyek was beaten in straight sets by his Hyundai Steel teammate KIM Byeong Yeon. Read more about the recurve finals: Arizona Cup 2015: Register now! The preliminary registration for the Arizona Cup to be held from 7 to 12 April 2015 has been extended until 10 February. The tournament is a world ranking event and para world ranking event, sanctioned by World Archery, World Archery Americas and USA Archery. Member associations, teams and archers are invited to register using the 'How to Register' page at Rio 2016 Register for the Rio 2016 Ticket Portal now to receive vital news about buying tickets to the Olympic and Paralympic Games next summer. The ticketing process for the next Olympic and Paralympic Games consists of four stages, beginning with creating an account in Rio 2016 s new online Ticket Portal. Then two random ticket draws will take place from March 2015, online sales begin in October 2015 and, finally, ticket offices will open in June Read more: Paralympic Games The IPC has adopted a 'zero classification' policy in an effort to minimise the number of athletes who need to be classified in the final days leading up to or during a Paralympic Games. The IPC will be working with each International Federation to invest in and implement a comprehensive pre-games classification programme, spread over the entire qualification period. Under the new policy only athletes with sport class status 'Confirmed' or 'Review + Fixed date 2017' will be eligible to participate at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Read more: World Games 2021 The United States city of Birmingham, Alabama was awarded the rights to host the 2021 World Games on 22 January. Its opponents in bidding for the event were Ufa, Russia and Lima, Peru. Birmingham s bid was excellent, said World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur ERDENER. The USA is a country that has always found international success in the World Games archery disciplines. USA compound athletes won gold and silver at the Archery World Cup Final this year. Read more: New Zealand Nationals The National Outdoor Championships of Archery New Zealand on 3-9 January was a showcase of Oceania archers pulling their weight against the best NZ had to offer. Lusitania TATAFU of Tonga entered the open women s recurve match-play despite being a cadet, shooting at the longer distance of 70m. She showcased the skills she d learnt at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China, heading through archers ranked much higher than her to get to the gold medal match. Read more:

4 January 2014 World Archery Newsletter Page 4 Member Associations Member Census 2014 In order to better understand our member federations worldwide, as well as check all their contact details, in October 2014 we launched a short World Archery Census, including basic data on membership numbers, coach and judge workforces. We are happy to say that on 29 January 2015 almost one third of our member associations (53 out of 155) had completed the questionnaire. Thank you to all of them! Link to questionnaire: Affiliation The November 2014 issue of World Archery News informed that the Archery Federation of Mali applied to World Archery Membership. Since none of the World Archery member associations or members of the World Archery Executive Board has raised any objection to the World Archery office, this federation becomes a temporary World Archery member since 1 February Their final membership will be submitted to a vote at the next World Archery Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark later this year. Development Iceland Following an important growth of the sport on the island these last two years the Icelandic Archery Committee and the National Olympic Committee with the support of the Olympic Solidarity hosted a coaches course from 6-17 January 2015 to improve the level of club coaches. Coaches from all around the island gathered in the headquarters of the National Olympic Committee and at the archery centre under the expertise of Carlos FREITAS from Portugal. Read more: United Arab Emirates As a part of its fast and growing development activities the United Arab Emirates Archery Association gathered 52 participants for a Level 2 Judges Course. The seminar was held from 22 to 26 December 2014 in cooperation with the Leader's Qualification Centre in Dubai. This country has submitted a membership application file conformed to World Archery rules. Member associations and Board members have 60 days to raise in writing any objection to this request of membership.
