The Terps are 1-1 in Ann Arbor since joining the Big Ten Conference, including a victory in The Terrapins currently lead the Big Ten and rank 10th nationally with a turnover margin through four games. The Terps have turned the ball over just three times this season, and just 17 times over the last 16 games dating back to the start of Redshirt freshman Kasim Hill has thrown just one interception in 97 career pass attempts. Senior running back Ty Johnson climbed from 10th to sixth all-time in rushing yards (2,429) as he recorded the 10th 100-yard game of his career against Minnesota. He is looking to join LaMont Jordan (4,147) and Charlie Wysocki (3,317) as the only players in Maryland history to rush for 3,000 yards. Johnson has averaged 7.5 yards/carry for his career - a mark that will likely demolish Da Rel Scott s program record of 5.6 yards/carry (min. 300 attempts). Senior linebacker Tre Watson currently leads the Big Ten in tackles/g (9.8) and solo tackles/g (6.3). The fifth-year transfer from Illinois was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week following his performance against Minnesota, when he totaled a game-high 11 tackles, including a sack, and returned an interception 36 yards for a touchdown. The Maryland rushing attack is racking up yards/g, which ranks 11th nationally and third in the Big Ten Conference. The tandem of senior Ty Johnson and redshirt freshman Anthony McFarland has combined for 594 yards after both notched 100-yard days in the win against Minnesota. McFarland is looking to become the first freshman in Maryland history to record three 100-yard rushing games Maryland continues to lead the Big Ten Conference in 3rd-down defensive conversion percentage, holding opponents to a 29-percent success rate through four games. 3 By The Numbers ON THE OFFENSE 2 Redshirt freshman Anthony McFarland has recorded back-to-back 100-yard rushing games, joining Wayne Wingfield (1979) as the only freshmen in program history to achieve the feat. A third 100-yard game would set the freshmen record for 100-yard games in a single-season. The electric playmaker has rushed for 219 yards on 17 carries over the last two games, averaging 12.9 yards per touch. 3 The Terps have had three different running backs rush for 100 yards in a game this season: Ty Johnson (at BG, MINN), Tayon Fleet- Davis, (at BG) and Anthony McFarland (Temple, MINN). The last time Maryland had three different players rush for 100 yards in a game in the same season was 1984, when Alvin Blount, Tommy Neal and Rick Badanjek each had 100-yard rushing performances. 3 The Terps had three different players record their first career touchdowns against Minnesota. Redshirt freshman Anthony McFarland scored on a pair of runs, including a 64-yarder, true freshman Chigoziem Okonkwo scored on a 21-yard handoff and DJ Turner found paydirt on a 54-yard catch and run. 6 With 123 rushing yards against Minnesota, senior running back Ty Johnson now has 2,429 career yards and vaulted from 10th to sixth on Maryland s all-time rushing list. Johnson needs 59 yards to surpass Lance Ball ( ) for fifth on the list. Johnson also ranks fifth in career all-purpose yards, and needs 168 yards to become the fourth Terrapin in history to record 4,000 all-purpose yards. 7.5 Senior running back Ty Johnson currently leads the Big Ten and ranks sixth in the country averaging 7.5 yards per carry. The mark was bolstered by an 81-yard touchdown score against Minnesota - the fourth-longest run in Maryland history. His previous career long was a 76-yard score against Purdue in Maryland has been perfect in the red zone so far this season, converting on all nine of its opportunities inside the opponent s 20-yard line, joining Penn State as the only two teams in the Big Ten that have been perfect inside the 20. The Terps have gotten into the end zone on seven of the nine trips to the red zone while kicking field goals on the other two. Miraculously, the Terps scored 42 points without making a trip to the red zone against Minnesota. 100 The Terrapins have had two games this season in which two players recorded 100 yards on the ground. Most recently, Ty Johnson had 123 yards and Anthony McFarland posted 112 yards against Minnesota. Prior to that, Johnson (124) and Tayon Fleet-Davis (102) achieved the feat against Bowling Green. 4 By The Numbers ON THE DEFENSE/ST 3.5 A year removed from garnering All-Big Ten honors for leading Big Ten defensive backs in tackles for loss (9.5) in 2017, Antoine Brooks, Jr. has picked up right where he left off this season. Brooks wrapped up Big Ten Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the win over Texas, and leads the team in tackles for loss with 4.5 through the first four games. 5 Junior Tino Ellis was sensational against Minnesota, recording a career-best five pass breakups. The mark is tied for the most in a single game across the country. The DeMatha product leads the team with seven pass breakups and has also recorded 11 tackles (all solo) and 3.0 tackles for loss. 8 Senior Ty Johnson recently became the 11th player in Maryland history to reach 1,000 career kick return yards, and currently ranks 10th in program history with 1,038 career kick return yards. Johnson next looks to pass JoJo Walker ( ) for ninth on the career list. Johnson totaled 657 return yards as junior, which ranked ninth in program single-season history Fifth-year transfer linebacker Tre Watson has seamlessly adjusted to his new role in College Park, leading the Big Ten in both tackles/g (9.8) and solo tackles/g (6.3). He earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the win over Minnesota, totaling 11 tackles, including a sack, and returning an interception 36 yards for a touchdown. Watson played his first four seasons at Illinois, and earned Honorable Mention All-Big Ten in Darnell Savage Jr. s 23-yard touchdown return against Temple was the third touchdown of the senior defensive back s career. Savage Jr. has now racked up five career interceptions as a Terrapin. Savage is also making an impact in the backfield, ranking second on the team with 4.0 tackles for loss. Entering 2018, he had totaled just 3.5 tackles for loss in 34 career appearances. Critical to the success of the Maryland defense has been its ability to get off the field on third downs, with its opponents converting just 29-percent of the time. The mark ranks 14th nationally and leads the Big Ten Conference. As a result of its success, Maryland has forced 29 punts through four games (7.25/g). True freshman placekicker Joseph Petrino remains perfect in his young career, knocking down all three field goal attempts and all 18 extra point attempts to total 27 points. Petrino hit a career-long 40-yard field goal in the rain against Bowling Green on September 8. He is Maryland s first true freshman placekicker since Brad Craddock (2012), who went on to win the Lou Groza Award in Junior punter Wade Lees turned in one of his best games as a Terrapin against Minnesota, punting five times for a career-best average of 48.6 yards. Lees earned Ray Guy Award Punter of the Week honors for his efforts. Lees has already uncorked four 50+ yard punts in 2018, after unleashing just eight through the first 25 games of his career. 4 GAME 5: MARYLAND vs. MICHIGAN

22 DJ DURKIN Head Coach Bowling Green 01 3rd Year at Maryland DJ Durkin is entering his third season at the helm of the University of Maryland football program in Durkin doubled the Terrapins win total during his first season in College Park and has excelled on the recruiting trail, bringing in consecutive Top 30 signing classes for the first time in program history. Regarded as one of the brightest young coaching minds in college football, Durkin was named the 36th head football coach in Maryland history on December 2, He quickly changed the culture and brought instant energy to the program. Durkin improved the results on the field as well. The Terps started the 2016 season 4-0 and won five of their first seven games, including a victory over Michigan State. Durkin guided Maryland to its 27th bowl game all-time when the Terps faced off against Boston College in the 2016 Quick Lane Bowl, which was played at Ford Field in Detroit. After making great strides in 2016, Maryland started off Durkin s second season with a bang. The Terps traveled to No. 23 Texas and defeated the Longhorns, 51-41, in the 2017 season opener. It marked the first victory for Maryland over a ranked foe in seven years. The 51 points scored was the most for a Terps team against a ranked opponent in the history of the program. An exciting 2-0 start to the year was quickly overshadowed by season-ending injuries to the top two quarterbacks on the roster. While playing statistically the nation s toughest schedule, the Terps ended the year 4-8 with wins over Texas, Towson, Minnesota and Indiana. Durkin has continued developing professional players during his time at Maryland as a pair of Terps were chosen in the 2018 NFL Draft. Wide receiver DJ Moore, the 2017 Big Ten Receiver of the Year, was taken in the first round by the Carolina Panthers. Moore was the first wide receiver selected in the draft after leading the conference with a single-season Maryland record 80 receptions. Linebacker Jermaine Carter, Jr. was also taken by the Panthers in the fifth round of the 2018 draft. Durkin has also showed his recruiting prowess by signing a consensus Top 20 class in 2017 and a consensus Top 30 class in Over the past two years, Durkin has signed 17 4-star student-athletes and eight members of the ESPN300. Durkin has also been able to keep the local DMV talent home, inking 16 Top 20 players from the state of Maryland and five Top 10 players from Washington D.C. over the last two years. Prior to arriving in College Park, Durkin served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at the University of Michigan, leading a nationally-renowned defensive unit that ranked fourth in the country. Under Durkin, the Wolverines limited opponents to 17.2 points per game in 2015, in addition to shutting out three consecutive opponents the longest such streak at Michigan in 35 years. Durkin has also been an outstanding recruiter in his time as an assistant. At Florida, Durkin helped land four 22 straight top-11 recruiting classes and was named Rivals. com s 2012 Recruiter of the Year as a result. In total, Durkin contributed to the impressive recruitment of nine five-star prospects on the defensive side of the ball during that stretch. As the defensive coordinator at Florida from , Durkin led the Gators to consecutive top-15 rankings in total defense with the 15th-best mark in the country in 2014 (329.0 ypg) and the eighth-best (314.2 ypg) in Florida s 2014 team finished the year ranked in the top-10 in the nation in yards allowed per play (4.45), yards allowed per rush attempt (3.16) and yards allowed per pass attempt (5.9). In Durkin s first season as defensive coordinator, Florida finished first in the SEC and seventh in the country in pass defense (171.8 yards per game), sixth in first downs allowed (16.1 per game) and 15th in scoring defense (21.1 points per game), while allowing only 27 touchdowns, the sixth fewest in the nation in Durkin s coaching paid dividends at the next level when defensive tackle Dominique Easley was drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. From , Durkin served as special team coordinator and linebackers coach at Florida and coached under current Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn. As linebackers coach, Durkin tutored Jon Bostic, who finished his career as a second-team All-SEC selection and was drafted in the second round of the NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears in Under Durkin s tutelage, Stanford s defensive ends helped the Cardinal rank 11th nationally in sacks per game in 2007 and At Stanford, Durkin helped the Cardinal bring in their highest ranked recruiting class in eight years in As a graduate assistant at Notre Dame from , Durkin worked primarily with defensive ends and helped develop Notre Dame all-time sack leader, All-Pro NFL defensive end and 2x Super Bowl champion Justin Tuck. As a player, Durkin starred at Bowling Green as a starter at defensive end and outside linebacker from He led the team in sacks in 1998 and served as a team captain for two seasons.
