Indiana State is coming off a thrilling overtime victory over Evansville and enters with an overall record of 8-15, 2-9 MVC while the Panthers enter with a overall record and a 5-6 ledger in conference play. NEW RADIO HOME FOR SYCAMORE BASKETBALL Please note that Sycamore Basketball games through at least the February 8 contest at Bradley will air on 98.5 FM The River in Terre Haute as several stations are moving around on the dial as part of recent acquisitions by Midwest Communications. QUICK HITS - Indiana State is 77-9 when holding teams to 63 points or less under seventh-year head coach Greg Lansing (and 18-0 when limiting teams to 53 or less). - Indiana State has earned 64 close victories (five points or less) since Under Greg Lansing, the Sycamores are in close games. - Greg Lansing is just the sixth head coach in the history of the program to record at least 100 victories at the helm of the Sycamores as he owns 117. He needs three more to tie John Longfellow for fifth on the ISU all-time victories list. - Sophomore Brenton Scott owns 189 trifectas in his career which is third-best in the history of the program. - Junior Matt Van Scyoc has scored over 1,000 career collegiate points as he tallied 807 in two prior seasons at The Citadel plus 440 with the Sycamores. He now has 1,252 career points scored during his career with the two institutions. - The Sycamores opened the season with back-to-back overtime games and had two more in a row go to extra time against Missouri State and Southern Illinois (Dec. 31 & Jan. 4). It was the first time Indiana State has played consecutive overtime games since the season when they did it in the first two games of Of the Sycamores first 23 games, 11 have been decided by one possession or in overtime, including four of the last five victories. ISU has set a new school record with six overtime games so far this season. The NCAA record is eight while the MVC standard is seven. - Indiana State head coach Greg Lansing owns a school record five victories over nationally-ranked teams during his tenure, a new standard set on December 7 in the win over No. 15 Butler. - Indiana State head coach Greg Lansing led the Sycamores for the 200th time against Missouri-St. Louis. He is one of just four head coaches at Indiana State to coach at least 200 games. Duane Klueh, Royce Waltman and Gordon Stauffer are the others.

He is all-time in MVC games, including a mark at home and a record on the road. During his career, he is in all home games, on the road, in neutral court contests and in games decided by five points or less. Lansing is 7-5 against Northern Iowa and is 3-3 against the Panthers on the road. With the Trees, Lansing is in overtime games and 77-9 when holding teams to 63 points or less. Lansing led the Sycamores to the postseason in each of his first four seasons at the helm (2011 NCAA, 2012 CIT, 2013, 2014 NIT). Lansing is the second head coach to lead the Sycamores to the NCAA Tournament in their rookie campaign in the history of the program, with the other being Bill Hodges leading ISU to a 33-1 record and a Final Four appearance in the 1979 NCAA Tournament. Lansing was just the 14th rookie head coach in the history of the MVC to lead his team to 20 victories during their debut season. Lansing holds the school record for most victories over a nationally-ranked team (five) in the history of the program. Lansing is currently sixth on the Indiana State all-time coaching victories list with 117 and needs three more to tie John Longfellow for fifth. A Little History Indiana State is currently in its 121st season of college basketball at the school. The Sycamores are 1,464-1,270 all-time on the hardwood. Five Sycamores Reach Double Figure Scoring In Overtime Victory Over Evansville Indiana State placed five different Sycamores in double figure scoring during its overtime victory over Evansville on February 1. Led by Brenton Scott s 22 points, who hit a trio of 3-pointers, the Sycamores also got 14 points from senior point guard Everett Clemons. Also in double figures were Matt Van Scyoc with 12 while TJ Bell and Jordan Barnes tallied 10 each. In the second half and overtime, the Sycamores hit 15-of-26 shots (57.7 percent) from the field and scored 53 points in 25 minutes of play. Everett Clemons Leads Sycamores Against Loyola and Illinois State Indiana State senior Everett Clemons continues to be the rock solid heart and soul of the Sycamores and averaged 10.5 points, led the team with 5.5 rebounds and added 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game against Illinois State and Loyola. Sycamores Set School Record For Most Overtime Games In A Season For Indiana State, 11 of the Sycamores games this season have been decided by just one possession or have entered overtime. The Sycamores have now set a new school record by playing in six overtime contests this season. Indiana State is 3-3 in overtime games. The NCAA record for most overtime games played in one season is eight, and the MVC record is seven. The Sycamores had not played consecutive overtime games since the season before doing that twice this year (first two games at Northern Illinois and Ball State as well as at Missouri State and at Southern Illinois). Scott s 3-Point Shooting Moving Up ISU Career Ranks; Now 20th All-Time In Scoring Indiana State junior Brenton Scott is continuing to make his mark on the Sycamore Basketball Record Book in regards to 3-point shooting and points scored. Through 86 career games he has hit pointers which ranks third-best all-time and is 26 behind Jordan Printy ( ) for second place. He has attempted pointers in his career which ranks third and needs 59 more attempts to move past Jordan Printy ( ) for second place. Scott also has scored 1,208 points in his career and is the 38th member of the Indiana State Basketball 1,000 Point Club. Scott also is the 13th member of the club (34.2 percent) either coached or recruited by current head coach Greg Lansing, the most members that one coach can claim as one of their pupils in the illustrious club. Scott currently ranks 20th at the school all-time in career scoring. He currently is second in the Missouri Valley Conference in scoring with a 17.0 ppg average. Everett Clemons Near Top Of Valley Leaderboard In Several Categories Indiana State senior Everett Clemons is ranked highly in eight different statistical categories inside the Missouri Valley Conference. Clemons is virtually tied with Brenton Scott in rebounding with a 5.6 average which ranks 11th. His field goal percentage is an outstanding.535 which ranks seventh-best in the league. Always a distributor, Clemons is averaging 4.9 assists per game which is second while he is third in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 2.4. Solid also at the free throw line, Clemons has hit 74.6 percent of his attempts which is 11thbest in the league. On the defensive end, Clemons averages 1.9 steals per game which is the third-highest this season inside the MVC while is pulling down 4.1 defensive rebounds per game to rank 12th. Finally, Clemons 32.4 minutes per game is fifth-most in the MVC. Sycamores Tally School Record Fifth Victory Over Nationally-Ranked Team Under Lansing Indiana State ended a skid of nine loses to nationally-ranked teams when No. 15/16 Butler fell inside Hulman Center on December 7 by the score of Coach Lansing has led the Sycamores to a school-record five victories against nationally-ranked teams during his time at the helm of the program. Sycamores Picked To Finish Sixth In Missouri Valley Conference Race Indiana State was picked to finish sixth in the Missouri Valley Conference according to a preseason poll of league head coaches, sports information directors and a media panel. Defending league champion Wichita State was also picked to win the league. The Sycamores are coming a record last year and a sixth place finish in the MVC race. Indiana State reached the semifinals of Arch Madness of the fourth time in the last six years last season. Brandon Murphy An MVC Scholar-Athlete Selection Indiana State sophomore Brandon Murphy carries a 3.25 GPA in Communications and was named to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team as an honorable mention selection. Murphy averaged 4.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. In MVC contests, Murphy averaged 5.3 rebounds per game to rank 12th in the league. He pulled down 2.0 offensive rebounds per game to rank third while his 2.4 offensive rebounds per MVC game was second in the conference rankings. Murphy posted his first career double figure scoring output with 10 points in a home court victory over Wyoming. He tallied a career-high 12 rebounds in an overtime contest at Missouri State. Greg Lansing Selected For Induction Into Iowa High School Basketball Hall Of Fame Indiana State head coach Greg Lansing was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Basketball Hall of Fame as part of their 2016 class. Lansing and the other selected inductees were honored individually at halftime of the Iowa Class 4A State Championship Game at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines on March 12. The IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame is the highest honor the Iowa High School Board of Control can bestow on a high school coach or former player. Lansing graduated from Harlan High School in 1986, where he was coached by his father Dave, who was inducted into the IHSAA Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999 as a coach. The Lansing father/son combination of Dave and Greg are just the 10th father/son duo to both be inducted into the Hall of Fame since Up Next Indiana State remains on the road as they travel to Bradley on Wednesday, February 8 at 9:00 p.m. (ET). TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Nearly one half of Indiana State s games this season have come down to the final possession or went to overtime and tonight they experienced both as a last second defensive stand gave the Sycamores a much needed overtime victory over visiting Evansville in front of 3,669 fans inside Hulman Center. Indiana State improved to 8-15, 2-9 MVC while Evansville fell to 10-14, 1-10 MVC. The Sycamores have won six in a row over Evansville at home dating back to New Year s Day of It also was the 10th victory over Evansville for seventh-year head coach Greg Lansing, who earned career victory No. 117, which is only three behind John Longfellow ( ) for fifth place all-time at Indiana State. Brenton Scott led the way with 22 points and now has 1,208 for his career as he moved past Hall of Fame member Bob Barker for 20th on the Sycamores all-time list. Scott hit a trio of 3-pointers and added six assists. Everett Clemons, who is ranked in eight different statistical categories among all Missouri Valley Conference individuals, had 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists with a pair of steals. Matt Van Scyoc contributed 12 points while TJ Bell and Jordan Barnes each posted 10. It was the sixth overtime game for the Sycamores this season and their 11th that either gone to extra time or been decided by one possession or less. The Missouri Valley Conference record for most overtimes in a season is seven and the NCAA record is eight. Missouri State has also gone to overtime six times this year, including when ISU and MSU met on New Year s Eve in Springfield. The Sycamores held a narrow edge in the paint while the Purple Aces converted 16 Sycamore turnovers into 19 points. Evansville blazed the nets to a 63.6 percent (14-of-22) clip in the first half as they took a lead at the break. But the Sycamores clamped down in the second half, holding the Purple Aces to just 12-of-32 shooting (37.5 percent) while ISU hit 12-of-21 attempts (57.1 percent). UE was just 1-of-4 in overtime while ISU hit 3-of-5 attempts. A conventional 3-point play from Dru Smith gave Evansville a lead in overtime. Two free throws from Brenton Scott cut the Evansville lead down to one point. A jumper from Bell with 2:36 on the clock pushed ISU ahead before Jaylon Brown hit two charity tosses at the 1:30 mark as Evansville pushed ahead Clemons would score with 41 seconds left for the one point cushion, but Brown hit two more free throws with 26 seconds to go as Evansville claimed a advantage. Brenton Scott tallied a lay-up with 13 seconds left to give ISU an lead. Evansville called timeout with eight seconds left to plan their attack. The Sycamores held and the buzzer sounded, but after a review it was determined that there should be 0.6 seconds on the clock underneath Evansville s basket. The Purple Aces got the ball in bounds and a tap at the basket at the final buzzer came close but rolled off the right side of the rim to give the Sycamores a thrilling victory. A 10-point halftime lead for Evansville spiked in the second half at when Smith connected on a lay-up with 16:19 left in regulations. The Sycamores scored five in a row after a Ryan Taylor jumper to trim the Evansville lead down to on a jumper from Barnes. Christian Benzon scored for the Aces but Niels Bunschoten came over the top with a 3-pointer to get within with 11:25 to go. 7 Greg Lansing Indiana State Head Basketball Coach Seventh Season Greg Lansing is in his seventh season as the head basketball coach at Indiana State. He previously spent eight seasons with the program as an assistant coach, including three as associate head coach. Lansing (South Dakota, 1990) is (.532) at the helm of the Sycamore basketball program. He owns a mark of in MVC games, including a record at home. During his career, he is in all home games with 32 road victories to his credit and is in games decided by five points or less. Lansing is 8-5 in the MVC Tournament, with four of those victories coming as the lower seeded team. Indiana State s win over Ball State at home in 2015 was his 100th victory as the Sycamore head coach. His 117 career victories rank sixth on ISU s all-time win list. He is the second head coach to lead the Sycamores to the NCAA Tournament in their rookie campaign in the history of the program, with the other being Bill Hodges leading ISU to a 33-1 record and a Final Four appearance in the 1979 NCAA Tournament. Lansing was just the 14th rookie head coach in the history of the MVC to lead his team to 20 victories during their debut season. In the Sycamores overcame a ton of adversity to still put together its best season in nearly a decade under the professional leadership of the ISU coaching staff. Despite only having its full complement of student-athletes for just 28 minutes of the rough and tumble Missouri Valley Conference slate, the Sycamores still recorded its first winning season since 2001 as they finished ISU also finished the year with a 9-9 record in league play, bolstering the Sycamores out of the MVC Opening Round at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament by securing the league s No. 6 seed after finishing in a tie for fifth in the standings. Starting guard Jake Kelly suffered a season ending knee injury with 12 minutes left in the conference opener at Southern Illinois and subsequently also lost Dwayne Lathan and Harry Marshall for extended periods over the course of the year. Marshall, who was the heart and soul of the team, led the MVC in scoring in league contests with a 16.0 ppg average. Marshall was tabbed Second Team All-MVC and was named to the MVC s All- Defensive Team after turning in shutdown performances against most of the league s all-conference opposition. Running a well-rounded program, the Sycamores also two representatives on the MVC s Scholar Athlete Team as both Jordan Printy and Aaron Carter took those plaudits. The payoff for the Sycamores continued as ISU reached postseason play for the first since 2001 when they accepted a bid to the 2010 College Basketball Invitational, appearing in a road contest at Saint Louis. Lansing has been a key recruiter for many talented student-athletes. Lansing has also been a major part of the several all-conference accolades for several players, including Harry Marshall and Jay Tunnell, who took All-MVC honors following the campaign. During each year of Lansing s tenure, the Sycamores have participated in the Coaches Vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Challenge. For each of the last three years, Lansing has led a successful challenge to the state s lawmakers to wear sneakers with their suits during that same time frame as part of the program to promote cancer awareness. Through an invitation from State Representative Bob Heaton, who played for ISU on the team which advanced to the NCAA Final Four, ISU head coach Greg Lansing has visited the State House leaders to participate in the challenge. Lansing returned to Indiana State after a seven-year stint with the Iowa Hawkeyes. During Lansing s seven years as assistant coach at Iowa, the Hawkeye s went , received three NCAA Tournament invitations, three NIT appearances and won a pair of Big Ten tournament titles, the first of which came on four wins in four games making Iowa the first team in the Big Ten to accomplish such a feat. In , Iowa earned a 25-9 record, the second-most wins in school history, the first undefeated (17-0) home record in the school s history and a No. 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Lansing earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Dakota in 1990 and a master s degree in counseling from USD in As a member of the Coyote basketball team Lansing helped South Dakota reach the NCAA Division II Tournament during his junior and senior seasons, the first NCAA invitation for USD since He was twice named the South Dakota Defensive Player of the Year. Greg is currently ranked among the leaders in career assists at USD. Following his playing career, Lansing served as a graduate assistant coach at South Dakota for two seasons. In he was a full-time assistant. Greg s father, Dave Lansing, coached high school basketball for 33 years in Iowa. Dave Lansing was inducted into the Iowa High School Athletic Association Coaches Hall of Fame during the 1999 Iowa boys state basketball tournament. Lansing s dad, his mother, Diane, his sister, Angela, and his nephew, Jordan, live in West Des Moines.
