BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Oh what a night it was for the Sycamores as they used a blistering performance from downtown en route to a victory over Indiana in front of 17,222 fans inside Assembly Hall. The 90 points scored represent the most by a Sycamore team in the all-time series with the Hoosiers -- topping the previous best of 72 set in a 2005 win inside Hulman Center. ISU won that game by five points, 72-67, which until tonight was the Sycamores largest margin of victory in the series. The victory was career win No. 121 for head coach Greg Lansing which ties him for fourth all-time at the school with Gordon Stauffer. The Sycamores have now won four of the last six meetings in the alltime series dating back to Indiana State s last win in this building back in It was the Sycamores first win in the series since Tonight s Sycamore victory broke a string of 32 wins in a row for the Hoosiers in their home opener and was ISU s first win on the road in a season opener since a 2014 overtime victory at IUPUI. Indiana State was solid in many areas, beginning with 3-point shooting as they hit 17-of-26 attempts (65.4 percent) from long range. The 17 3-pointers are the most by an opponent against Indiana inside Assembly Hall and fell just one shy of the Sycamore school record of 18 set in 1988 against Arizona State. Brenton Scott led the way with a 9-of-12 shooting performance, including a mark of 6-of-8 from 3-point range to lead the way with 24 points. Scott also passed Sycamore legend Ray Goddard for 12th on the Indiana State all-time scoring list and now owns 1,335 career points and trails Matt Renn by 12 for No. 11 on the list. Jordan Barnes got hot early and then beat the shot clock twice with huge 3-pointers to score 18. Qiydar Davis added 13 while Brandon Murphy finished with 12 and Devin Thomas added 10. Murphy led the way for the Sycamores with five rebounds and the team held a edge on the glass for the game. Qiydar Davis struck first for the Sycamores during the season with a big 3-pointer on the first possession as ISU grabbed a quick 3-0 lead. Barnes also hit a pair of 3-pointers in the opening moments of the game, including a four-point play with 14:41 on the clock which pushed the Sycamores ahead After IU answered with a trifecta of their own, Davis converted a conventional 3-point play to restore the 10-point advantage at Indiana scored inside, but the Sycamores answered with a back-to-back 3-pointers from Barnes at the death of the shot clock and then by Brenton Scott as ISU surged ahead with 12:52 on the clock and forced Indiana to burn a timeout. A 6-0 run consisting of back-to-back 3-pointers by Devin Thomas and Scott staked the Sycamores to a lead as the clock ticked under the 10 minute mark. Brandon Murphy hit a pair of charity tosses with just over eight minutes remaining to stop a Hoosiers run and reclaim a advantage. Thomas hit a pair of free throws at the 6:51 mark and the Sycamores tied their largest lead of the game at A Davis steal at mid court and fast break lay-up pushed the advantage out to with 5:51 on the clock and made it another 6-0 ISU run. Thomas connected on his third 3-pointer of the first half and became the third Sycamore to reach double figures scoring at the 4:36 mark to stretch the lead out to Out of the last media timeout before the half, Tyreke Key hit a pair of free throws and the Sycamores owned their largest lead of the opening half at Brandon Murphy was fouled on a rebound in the final minute and hit both to stretch the lead out to Indiana scored in the final seconds and a Barnes half court heave at the buzzer was wide left as the Sycamores led Jordan Barnes, Qiydar Davis, Brandon Murphy and Devin Thomas all had 10 points at the half as the Sycamores connected on 10-of-15 shots from long range. There would be no immediate cool down for the Trees as Jordan Barnes connected on his fourth 3-pointer on the opening possession to stretch the halftime lead out to The cushion ballooned to with just over 18 minutes to go on consecutive jumpers from Brenton Scott who moved into 12th all-time in career scoring in the process. A Indiana mini-run was answered by Bronson Kessinger s second trifecta of the game at the 16:44 mark for the lead.
