OKLAHOMA Wednesday s contest marks the 37th meeting between Red River rivals Texas and Oklahoma. Texas holds a advantage in the all-time series that began with five-straight UT victories on Nov. 17, 1979, in Norman. The Sooners swept the series last year with an win in Norman (Jan. 25, 2009) and a victory in Austin (Mar. 8, 2009). Texas trails 7-8 when the teams meet in the Lloyd Noble Center. OKLAHOMA (MAR. 8, 2009) (AP) - Danielle Robinson scored 17 points for No. 3 Oklahoma, and the Big 12 champions ended the regular season with a win over No. 15 Texas on March 8, 2009 in Austin. Courtney Paris added 16 points for the Sooners, but had just six rebounds to miss her 124th career double-double in 130 games. Oklahoma built the lead as high as 27 in the second half, then watched Texas rally to within 11 in the fi nal minute. Ashley Lindsey scored 16 to lead the Longhorns. A CHECK OF THE POLLS Texas climbed two places to No. 19 in the latest Associated Press poll (Feb. 1) and No. 23 in the latest ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll (Jan. 26). In her 18 years as a collegiate head coach, Gail Goestenkors has spent 273 weeks in the AP Top 25 poll, the most by any current Big 12 head coach, and a mark that ranks ninth by active coaches in AP Poll history. BAYLOR (JAN. 31) Earnesia Williams scored 13 points and No. 19 Texas got a muchneeded boost in the Big 12 with a win over No. 14 Baylor on Sunday. Texas (14-6, 3-3) led by 21 midway through the second half before Baylor rallied to get within seven with under 3 minutes to play. Brittainey Raven chipped in 12 points and Ashleigh Fontenette scored 11 for the Longhorns. Brittney Griner scored 21 points to lead Baylor (15-5, 2-4) but got little help offensively from her teammates as Baylor shot just 32 percent. Texas handled the 6-foot-8 freshman post player much of the game by rotating their own 6-4 forwards, Ashley Gayle and Cokie Reed, to defend her. Reed and Gayle scored eight points together and both fouled out, but their work inside and Texas zone defense helped deny entry passes to Griner. RPI RELEASED The fourth edition of the NCAA RPI was released Feb. 1 and Texas is one of seven Big 12 teams in the Top 25 at No. 14. The Big 12 is the only league with seven teams in the Top 30 and is also ranked fi rst in RPI by both CBN and Jeff Sagarin for the ninth-consecutive week. UT s schedule is ranked No. 9 in the CBN Strength of Schedule ratings, the third-highest of any league opponent (Oklahoma - No. 2, Texas A&M - No. 6).

3 LEAGUE LEADERS In Big 12 Conference games, Texas is averaging a leaguebest 75.5 points per game, point FG percentage and 6.5 blocks per game. ARRIARAN LIGHTS IT UP Senior guard Erika Arriaran already had one memorable performance this season when she hit seven 3-point fi eld goals against Oral Roberts (Dec. 1) for a then-career best 23 points. Then, she decided to top herself. Arriaran set a Texas record for 3-pointers in a Big 12 game when she connected eight times from long distance against Oklahoma State (Jan. 20) en route to scoring a team-best 28 points in the win. She ranks fi fth on Texas all-time Top 10 career list for most 3-point baskets made with 148. KAT AMONG THE BEST To say that junior guard Kathleen Nash is hot from long distance this season would be an understatement. In the most current NCAA rankings (Feb. 1), Nash is fourth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage with 49.5 percent (45-of-91) and is on pace to shatter the single-season school record of 44.8 percent (13-of-29) set by Vicki Hall during LONG RANGE SUCCESS Texas is 13-2 this season when outshooting its opponent from 3-point range. The Longhorns shot a season-high 58.3 percent (7- of-12) from beyond the arc against North Texas (Nov. 20), and have recorded seven or more 3-point baskets in 12 of their 19 games, including a season-high 12 3FG against Oral Roberts (Dec. 1). DUO SEEING DOUBLE... TWICE For the second time this season, a pair of UT players recorded double-doubles in the same game. Sophomore Ashleigh Fontenette recorded the fi rst double-double of her collegiate career in UT s double-overtime victory at Texas Tech (Jan. 16) with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, and junior Kathleen Nash notched her second of the season with 15 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. She currently ranks second in the Big 12 and ninth nationally with 3.2 bpg (Feb. 1 standings). STREAKIN Senior guard Brittainey Raven concluded her second 10+ made free throw streak of the season when she missed her first attempt against Texas Southern (Dec. 20). Raven s 14-straight made free throws began against Rutgers (Nov. 28) and spanned four games against Oral Roberts (2-of-2), Tennessee (4-of-4) and Ole Miss (5-of-5). Earlier in the season, Raven strung together 16-consecutive free throws in a three-game span. Through 19 games, Raven is hitting 77.4 percent (72-of-93) from the line, and has nearly twice as many attempts as leading free-throw shooter Kathleen Nash (40-of-48,.833 FT). With a pair of student-athletes on the roster sharing the same name, it was only a matter of time before the Longhorns bestowed various nicknames among the sophomores that share the same moniker. During their freshmen campaigns, the Horns dubbed Ashley Gayle A.G., while teammate Ashleigh Fontenette was tabbed A.T. because of the many T s that are present in her surname.... SISTER, SISTER A.G. and A.T. aren t the only players on the roster with nicknames. To tell sisters Kristen and Kathleen Nash apart, the Horns refer to senior post Kristen as Nash and junior guard Kathleen as Kat. Although many mistake the two for twins, they were actually born 22 months apart. NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP HERE As a sophomore last season, guard Kathleen Nash led UT in rebounding with 6.6 rpg and was the second-leading scorer with ppg. She posted a team-leading 23 double-figure scoring efforts, including four double-doubles, and connected on a team-leading 50 3-pointers. Nash was named 2009 All-Big 12 Honorable Mention for her sophomore campaign efforts. TALES FROM SUMMER BREAK In between pick-up games on campus, a few Horns found time to work a few adventures into their summer breaks. Junior guard Kathleen Nash studied business abroad in Paris for six weeks, while sophomore guard Ashleigh Fontenette spent a month shadowing an Austin-area attorney in an effort to pursue her dream of being a lawyer. Senior post Kristen Nash completed a summer-long internship with News 8 Sports in Austin. 7 WILLIAMS BACK FOR MORE Redshirt senior Earnesia Williams is back for a fi fth year, even after going through last year s senior ceremony before the team s fi nal home game of the season against Oklahoma. She even received a framed jersey, despite still having an extra year of eligibility from the medical redshirt she received after a season-ending knee injury during her freshman season in When the Longhorns season concluded after their second-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament under coach Gail Goestenkors, Williams decided she wasn t ready to leave the Forty Acres. COACH S KID To say sophomore Yvonne Anderson knows a little bit about basketball would be an understatement. She is the daughter of Missouri men s basketball coach Mike Anderson (2006-present). Not only did she grow up surrounded by college basketball, Anderson was even born during March Madness 1990, the same year her father was an assistant head coach at Arkansas and on a run to the Final Four. Yvonne was born on March 8, YEAR THREE AT TEXAS FOR COACH G The sixth all-time winningest coach in NCAA Division I women s basketball history, Gail Goestenkors begins her third season at Texas and sports a (.655) mark with the Horns.
