The Red Foxes face host The Citadel on Dec. 1 at 3 p.m. to start the tournament, and will face either UMBC or Army West Point on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. The firstday results will determine the second-day match-up and game time. ON THE AIR: Dean Darling (play-by-play) and Ed Weir (color) have the call on the Red Fox Network for both of Marist s games. Friday s game against The Citadel will be broadcast on ESPN3. LAST TIME OUT: Marist competed in the AdvoCare Invitational in Orlando over Thanksgiving Weekend, and went 0-3 against major conference competition. The Red Foxes fell to West Virginia (84-78, Nov. 23), Nebraska (84-59, Nov. 24), and Oregon State (65-46, Nov. 25). In the three games, Brian Parker averaged a team-high 13.0 points per game, while David Knudsen shot.609 (14-for-23) from the field and averaged 11.7 points per game. 3 Head Coach Mike Maker Fourth Season California Baptist/1988 Career Record: Record at Marist: Mike Maker was hired as the 11th head coach in Marist men s basketball history on June 17, The season will be his fourth at Marist. In the season, Khallid Hart earned Second Team All-MAAC honors as he finished his career as the fourthleading scorer in program history. Ryan Funk established himself as one of the MAAC s top shooters as he averaged over 12 points per game, more than double the previous season. Marist finished 8-24 overall and 5-15 in the MAAC. In the season, Maker s first recruiting class took shape as freshmen accounted for over 50 percent of the team s points, minutes played, and starts. Freshman guard Brian Parker set the program s Division I record for freshman points, and his.514 field-goal percentage was the highest of any freshman in the country. Parker was named to the MAAC All-Rookie Team. Khallid Hart was named Second Team All-MAAC and ranked 25th in the nation in scoring. Marist went 7-23 overall, and 4-16 in MAAC play. In Maker s first season at Marist, the Red Foxes went 7-25 overall and 5-15 in MAAC play while having to overcome numerous injuries. Marist went 6-7 from Jan. 25 until the end of the season, swept the Niagara-Canisius trip for the first time in the program s 18 years in the conference, had a four-game winning streak, and defeated Quinnipiac in the opening round of the MAAC Championships. Under Maker s guidance, Chavaughn Lewis became the school s all-time leading scorer with 2,119 career points, and earned an invitation to the Philadelphia 76ers Summer League team. Lewis was a Second Team All-MAAC selection. In his previous position, Maker posted an impressive record of (.821) in six years as head coach of Williams College. During his tenure at Williams, the Ephs reached the Final Four on three occasions, including two berths in the Division III national championship game. His 16 NCAA Tournament victories at Williams are a school record. Maker led Williams to a berth in the 2014 Division III national championship game for the second time in five seasons. The Ephs posted an overall record of 28-5, and ranked in the nation s top 10 in seven statistical categories. At Williams, Maker won at least 17 games in all six seasons, and won at least 26 games four times. In 2010, the Ephs reached the Division III national championship game, finished 30-2, set a school record with 21 straight wins and led the nation in four statistical categories. That season, Maker was named Basketball Times Co-National Coach of the Year, D3hoops.com Northeast Region Coach of the Year and NESCAC Coach of the Year. Following a second straight trip to the Final Four in 2011, Maker was a finalist for Glenn Robinson Division III Coach of the Year. In 2013, he was named D3hoops.com Northeast Region Coach of the Year, and was a finalist for Glenn Robinson Division III Coach of the Year after an Elite Eight appearance. This is Maker s 29th season in the coaching ranks. He arrived at Marist with 26 years of coaching experience, including 17 as an assistant at the Division I level. Prior to becoming head coach at Williams, Maker worked under current Oregon head coach Dana Altman at Creighton in the season, during which the Bluejays reached the second round of the NIT. Maker served as an assistant at West Virginia under head coach John Beilein from The Mountaineers reached the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2006, and won the Postseason NIT in West Virginia posted a record of in his two seasons there. Prior to his arrival at West Virginia, Maker had a three-year stint as assistant coach at Samford ( ) under head coach Jimmy Tillette. His first Division I coaching position came at Darmouth, where he spent 11 seasons ( ), where he earned the title of associate head coach, and served as the program s recruiting coordinator and director of scouting. Maker s first head coaching position came during the season, when he guided the Hartnell College women s basketball program. He started his coaching career as assistant coach and head junior varsity coach at his alma mater, California Baptist, from A native of Salinas, Calif., Maker is a member of the North Salinas High School Hall of Fame. He began his collegiate playing career at Hartnell College ( ), where he was a two-year captain, an honorable mention all-conference selection and earned an associate of arts degree in general education. He then played at California Baptist College ( ), where he was also a two-year captain and earned Academic All-America honors. Maker graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from California Baptist in 1988, and earned a Master of Arts degree in Education from Azusa Pacific University in Maker and his wife Erica are the parents of a five-year-old son, Jack. Do-It-All Dozic - Red-shirt sophmore forward Aleksandar Dozic leads the Red Foxes in both rebounds (5.0 rpg) and assists (2.5 apg). His 11 rebounds at UMass Lowell on Nov. 15 are the most by a Red Fox this season. Lamb Shines Off Bench - Junior forward Isaiah Lamb has given the Red Foxes three double-digit scoring efforts off the bench this season, with a season-high 13 vs. Army West Point on Nov. 18. This season, for Provoon Tarmo in Finnish Division 1A, he is averaging 20.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. - Coach Maker on Besselink: We are very excited to welcome Michael and his family to Marist and our basketball program. He has great bloodlines. His father, Gerry, was Coach Calhoun s first captain at UConn and had an extensive European professional career while his mother, Nina, was a Finnish National Team player. Michael s basketball IQ, versatility, and athleticism should allow him to make an immediate impact. - Nedrow is a 6-7 forward/center from Pittsburgh. He averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game as a high school junior en route to being named First Team All-Section. - Coach Maker on Nedrow: Luke is an exceptional student, a natural leader, and mature beyond his years. He combines toughness, and a versatile skill set that will enable him to thrive as a point forward in our hybrid Princeton offense. - Both Besselink and Nedrow will have four years of eligibility beginning with the season.
