The seven-game streak featured wins over two MAAC schools as well as a pair of non-conference overtime road victories against rivals Buffalo (94-87) and St. Bonaventure ( ). Canisius started the year with a match up against the University of Kentucky, and played seven of its first nine games on the road. In the team s last game, Iona accounted for 15 three-point field goals, seven of which came from guard Schadrac Casimir who went on to score a gamehigh 27 points. The Griffs picked up points from a pair of starters namely Jermaine Crumpton (21 points) and Kassius Robertson (15 points). The Griffs missed scoring 80 points in the game for the first time since a win over Albany on December 12, and for the only the third time in their last nine dates. Canisius leads the MAAC in scoring offense by averaging 80.5 points per game as well as in three-point field goal percentage with a success rate of 38.6 percent. Robertson leads the team in scoring with a 17.6 scoring average, followed by Crumpton s 16.6 points per contest. Phil Valenti is the team s top rebounder at 5.0 caroms per contest, and averages 12.5 points every forty minutes. Scouting Fairfield: The Stags come off a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference victories last week, edging Iona at home before defeating Manhattan by a count on the road. The two wins keep Fairfield in a virtual tie with Rider University, which improved to 4-1 in conference play with its win on Sunday afternoon. Head Coach Sydney Johnson has led his team to a 3-1 start in MAAC action, but needs a win tonight to keep pace with the Broncs. The team received a lift from sophomore Curtis Cobb, who led the team in scoring against both Iona and Manhattan. He started the week with a team-best 22 points against the Gaels before setting the school record for points in game with 46 in the Manhattan win. The 46 points also tied the MAAC single-game scoring record. In addition, Cobb netted a school-record tying nine three pointers against the Jaspers. For his effort, Cobb was named the MAAC Player of the Week after averaging 34 points per game, shooting 67 percent from the field and 72 percent from three-point range in his two appearances. Cobb raised his scoring average to 17.2 points per game, second only to Tyler Nelson s 19.7 points per contest. Jerry Johnson Jr. is also averaging in double-figures with his 11.2 scoring average. Amadou Sidibe also has a season average in double figures with10.2 rebounds per game. On This Date: Fairfield played a thriller against Niagara University on this date during the season as Chris Rivers provided the winning points with a three-point field goal with four seconds remaining in the second overtime. Sam Spann led all Fairfield scorers in the game with 20 points while Rivers finished with nine points. The Stags met Canisius College on this date during the campaign with the Griffs outscoring the Stags by 10 points in the second half to post a win at Alumni Hall. Shane Miller was the lone Fairfield player in double figures with 18 points, while Jamie Cammaert posted a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds for the Griffs. Historic Game: Curtis Cobb broke the school s single-game scoring record that stood for nearly 45 years when he netted 46 points in Fairfield s win at Manhattan on January 5. He also tied the school standard with nine three-pointers, last accomplished by Mike Evanovich against George Mason in March, Cobb netted 31 points and seven three pointers in the first half. The previous record for scoring was 41 points held by George Groome set against Assumption in Player of the Week: Curtis Cobb became the second Fairfield studentathlete to earn the MAAC Player of the Week award after averaging 34 points per game in a 2-0 week for the Stags from January 2-8. The sophomore netted a team-best 22 points in a win against Iona and followed up with his recordbreaking 46 points with nine three pointers in a victory over Manhattan. He shot 67 percent from the floor (23 of 34) and 72 percent from three-point range (13 of 18).

In , Fairfield won its first five games of the year - vs, Loyola (W, 65-55), at Siena (W, 72-55), vs. Niagara (W, 70-48), at Marist (59-44), and vs. Saint Peter s (70-43).. The team finished the MAAC schedule with a 15-3 record and would advance to the second round of the NIT that season. Back On Track: After dishing off a combined seven assists over a four-game stretch from December 1-18, Jerome Segura has followed up with 22 assists (5.5 apg) over the last four games, registering at least six assists in three of those four contests. Segura had a hand in 22 of the team s 63 field goals over the last two games, dishing off 13 assists and scoring nine field goals. Pass It Up: Tyler Nelson led the team in assists in each of the last two games with a season-high eight assists against Iona before dishing off a squad-best seven assists at Manhattan. Nelson recorded 25 assists in his first 11 games of the season before he raised his season total to 40 with his recent two-game effort (3.3 apg). Leader Board: Jonathan Kasibabu posted a reserve-high 13 points in the win at Manhattan, the fourth time this season in which he has been the top scorer or coleader in scoring off the bench. His performance at Manhattan marked the first time that he was the top bench scorer when teammate Jerry Johnson played in the game. Kasibabu was the team s top reserve scorer at Loyola (10 points), vs. Army West Point (co-leader with 5 points), and at Rider (4 points). Home Stand: Fairfield begins a threegame home stand tonight which includes hosting Siena on January 15 and Saint Peter s on January 17. The Stags have a brief two-game road trip against Iona (January 20) and Monmouth (January 22) before returning home for four more home games. After the four-game home stand, the Stags will play five of their final seven contests on the road. Rejection: Jonathan Kasibabu registered a career-high five blocks in the win at Manhattan, surpassing his four rejections at Marist during the regular season and vs. Saint Peter s in the 2016 MAAC tournament. The sophomore leads the team with 16 blocks (1.2 per game) and is responsible for half of the team s 32 rejections this season. Before the Manhattan game, Kasibabu posted four blocks in his first nine games as a reserve player after blocking seven in three games as a starter. Season High: Head Coach Sydney Johnson reminds his team to share the ball many times during a game and the Stags responded over the last few games. The student-athletes combined for 21 assists in the win over Manhattan after recording a season-high 24 assists. Fairfield owns a 11-4 record under Coach Johnson when hitting the 20-assist mark in a game, and has won their last six games with 20 or more assists collectively. Never Surrender: The Stags held the lead for 38 minutes in the Manhattan game, a trend which has emerged over the team s last four victories. Fairfield led for 36 minutes in its win against Iona, and was in front of Boston College and Rider for 35 minutes en route to victories. The team also enjoyed the lead for 39 minutes in a win over Dartmouth and for 37 minutes in the decision over Sacred Heart. In the team s other two wins, the Stags owned an advantage for just nine minutes versus Army West Point (game was tied for eight minute) and for 17 minutes in the overtime decision over Wagner. Long-Range Shooting: Fairfield netted 10 three pointers in the victory over Manhattan after netting a season-high 14 three pointers in the win over Iona. The team has hit double-digits in that category in each of the last five games. The Stags are averaging 11.2 three pointers per game over the five -game run (56 made) and are registering 8.7 per game overall. Curtis Cobb (19 of 37,.513) has accounted for 19 of those three pointers in 37 attempts (.513), while Tyler Nelson (17 of 44, 387) and Jerry Johnson (13 of 39,.333), have also had a hand in the Stags long-range success.

The Stags registered just 11 turnovers in the North Carolina State game which established the season low before the team s performance against the Quakers. Over the last five games (NC State through Manhattan), Fairfield is averaging 11.5 turnovers per game, well below the team s current turnover average of 14.1 turnovers per game. Less Is More: Head Coach Sydney Johnson used just seven student-athletes in the loss to Penn, the fifth time that the sixth-year coach has used that strategy. Fairfield owns a 3-2 record in those games, losing to Mercer in the 2012 CIT semifinals (64-59), defeating Saint Peter s in the 2016 MAAC Tournament (64-55), beating Army West Points (75-74) and Boston College (89-83) earlier this year. Doubling Up: Fairfield had two bench players score in double digits with 17 points from Jerry Johnson Jr. and 10 points from Jonathan Kasibabu against Boston College. It s the first time that Fairfield enjoyed two reserves reaching double figures since the February 6, 2016 game against Manhattan College. Matija Milin netted 19 points off the bench while Johnson Jr. added 11 markers as a reserve. MAAC Musings: The Stags feature the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference s (MAAC) top scorer and top rebounder. Tyler Nel scoring average, while Amadou Sidibe rates first among MAAC student-athletes with 10.2 rebounds per game. In addition, Nelson is the ironman of the conference, leading the MAAC in minutes played per game (37.0). Free Throw Frenzy: The Stags went 17 for 17 at the line led by Jerry Johnson s Jr. nine charity tosses in the North Carolina State game. It s the first time that a Fairfield team was perfect from the free throw line since the team went 11 for 11 in a loss to Siena in the season. The last time Fairfield went 17 for 17 in a game came on January 25, 2004 when Fairfield defeated Loyola Md. by a count. Long-Range Shooting: Fairfield came within one three-point attempt of tying the school record with its 42 attempts (11 made) against NC State. The school standard was set against Rice University when the Stags made 14 of 43 tries on December 30, Fairfield lost a decision in overtime against Rice on that date. Bernie Cieplicki (3 of 12), Kevin George (3 of 11), and Johnnie Jones (4 of 9) took 32 of the 43 three-point attempts against Rice. Against NC State, Tyler Nelson (5 of 13) and Jerry Johnson Jr. (2 of 11) and Curtis Cobb (2 of 8) combined for 32 of the 42 three-point tries at NC State. Nail Biter: The Stags played a game that was decided by one point for the 10th time under Head Coach Sydney Johnson on November 26. Fairfield evened up its record in those games with its win against Army West Point. The Stags best season under Johnson came in when they won all three of their one-point decisions. At The Half: The Stags won for the second time when trailing at halftime on November 26, turning a deficit into a win against Army West Point. Fairfield also trailed Wagner at intermission by a margin earlier this year before winning in overtime. The team s 2-0 start is a stark difference than what has been the trend over the last three seasons. Fairfield owned a 6-40 record between and when trailing at halftime. Overtime: The Stags picked up their first overtime win of the season with its decision over Wagner. Last season, Fairfield owned a 4-0 mark in games that required extra time. The Stags are 7-4 alltime in overtime games under Head Coach Sydney Johnson, and have multiple overtime games in each of the previous two seasons (4-0 in and 2-3 in ). Top Flight: The Fairfield University Class of 2019 finished the campaign as the top scoring freshman class in the MAAC. Curtis Cobb (10.8), Jerry Johnson (8.3), Matija Milin (8.2), and Jonathan Kasibabu (5.9) combined for a total of 32.2 points per game, four points better than Marist s freshman class. The Red Foxes had six student-athletes combine for 28.1 points per contest.

Leader Board: Trailing 82-81, Jerome Segura put Fairfield in front for good with his basket against Iona in the closing minutes. The basket capped one of Segura s best overall efforts in , finishing the game with 15 points, six rebounds, and seven assists. Those numbers were only surpassed by his performance against Sacred Heart in the season opener, registering 17 points, six rebounds, and 10 assists. Steal Away: Jerome Segura set a personal best with four steals against Boston College and tied it one game later at Penn, his fourth and fifth multiple steal games this season. He has posted a steal in six games this season, registering three or more steals on four occasions. His steals against Boston College were the first since he tied his previous career high with three at Rider in early December. Holding Court: Jerome Segura and Curtis Cobb played all 40 minutes against Boston College. Segura has played every minute in three games this season, the most by any Fairfield studentathlete. He logged 45 minutes in an overtime win against Wagner and 40 minutes at Rider which gives the Stags a 3-0 record when he plays the entire game. Cobb is the only other Fairfield player to play every minute of a game, accomplishing the task at Siena in addition to the Boston College game. Shutout: Jerome Segura did not register an assist in the game at Siena, the first time this season that he did not pick up an assist. Segura has gone without an assist just seven times in his 71 appearances as a Stag. He tied his personal highs for points, rebounds (6), and field goals made (7). It s the first double-double for a Fairfield student-athlete that included assists since Derek Needham tallied 20 points and 10 assists against Rider (January 30, 2010) during the season. Needham also had 19 points and 14 assists against Sacred Heart earlier that year.

6 Segura s Biography Jerome Segura emerged as the team s point guard from the beginning of the season, earning a start at the position in all 32 appearances as a sophomore. He posted a positive assist-toturnover ratio in 24 of his 32 games and posted an equal number of assists and turnovers in five other games. He recorded a personal best 11 assists at Marist and later tied that mark at home against Manhattan. Segura also showed a knack for scoring when he scored a personal best 17 points in the Wagner game, one of his nine double-digit point totals a year ago. He finished the campaign strongly by scoring 10 or more points in three of his final five games, averaging 9.8 points per game and shooting 43.7 percent from the floor (21 of 48) during that run. He also recorded 20 assists against 11 turnovers during the final five contests. He ended the season with 160 assists which is the 10th highest single-season total in Fairfield basketball history Segura was a regular all season long, playing in all but one contest as a freshman. He missed the Saint Peter s game after playing in his first 27 collegiate games. He posted a career-high 13 points in a start at Saint Peter s. He also reached double figures as a reserve with 11 points at Niagara in the regularseason finale. Segura was sure-handed with the basketball and was one of only three Stags with more assists than turnovers (64 assists/60 turnovers). He had more turnovers than assists in nine of his 28 regular-season appearances. He dished off nine assists against four turnovers in the team s Buffalo weekend, highlighted by six assists and two miscues against Canisius. Segura earned his first collegiate start at Siena on January 11, joining Tyler Nelson to comprise an all-freshmen backcourt. Before Fairfield Segura finished his final season at Langham Creek High School as an All-Region and an All-District player. He led his team to a overall record in and a 9-4 mark in the District. He enjoyed one of his finest seasons as a Lobo, tossing in 16.9 points per game. The guard also added 3.5 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Over his final three seasons with the program, Segura tossed in 1,153 points and averaged 12.4 points per game. In his final season at Langham Creek, Segura dished off 103 assists and recorded 60 steals in 30 games. Double Figures: Jerry Johnson Jr. netted 13 of the team s 18 bench points in the Iona game, the sixth time this season that he has come off the bench to reach double figures. In his nine games on the court, Johnson Jr. accounted for 101 of the team s 162 bench points (62 percent). In two of his nine appearances this year, Johnson Jr. was responsible for all of the team s bench scoring with his six points at Siena and his 13 points versus Sacred Heart. 8 Johnson s Biography Jerry Johnson Jr. averaged 8.3 points per game which was fourth on the team, one spot behind classmate Curtis Cobb s scoring average of 10.8 ppg. Johnson was also fourth among his teammates with 43 three pointers, just one basket from third place. He ranked eighth in the MAAC with a.402 three-point field goal percentage (43 of 107). He made at least one three pointer in 18 games, including 11 games with two or more three pointers. One of his best performances from behind the arc came against Dartmouth when he netted five of six shots from behind the arc, second only to his seven three pointers (nine attempts) at. The guard shot 40.2 percent from behind the arc, making more than half of his attempts in eight games. The freshman posted nine double-digit scoring games which included two 20-point efforts (20 vs. Dartmouth and 25 vs. Marist). Johnson started one of his 28 appearances, registering two points in 12 minutes against Columbia. He earned the MAAC rookie of the week on December 28. 10 Nelson s Biography Tyler Nelson looks to become the Stags next 1,000-point scorer in , needing just 164 points to reach the prestigious plateau. He comes off his best offensive season of his two-year career with a team-high 529 points which translated into a 16.0 scoring average. The guard earned a spot on the All-MAAC second team after placing sixth among the MAAC scoring leaders. He led the conference in free throw percentage at.880 (147 of 167), a number which was also good enough for 14th in the nation. He netted 2.0 three pointers per game which was ranked 12th in the MAAC as his 66 long-range jumpers raised his career total to 130 in 63 games. He netted three or more three pointers in 10 games during , giving him Nelson started all 33 games last season, giving him 63 career starts. Nelson led the team in steals with 44 which ranked 12th in the MAAC at 1.3 per game, and placed second among his teammates with 95 assists. The guard ended the season with 15 straight double-digit scoring games including six with 20 or more points. He netted 20- plus points 11 times, highlighted by his career-best of 27 markers against Niagara in Bridgeport Nelson emerged as one of the MAAC s top freshmen which was backed up by his appearance on the MAAC s All-Rookie team. The guard became one of the conference s top three-point threats by netting 64 shots from behind the three-point line, the most since Jermaine Clark posted 70 three pointers as a freshman. 12 Harper s Biography Harper spent most of the season on the injured list but did appear in the team s postseason game against New Hampshire. The guard played one minute in that game and picked up a rebound in his brief appearance. Harper has fully recovered from his injury and will be ready for the season Harper appeared in three games in his first season with the program, earning playing time at Duke and at Siena in the regular season as well as the Saint Peter s game during the MAAC Tournament. He picked up one minute in each of those contest and did not attempt any shots in any of those contest. Before Fairfield A multi-sport athlete in high school, Harper joined Fairfield University as a preferred walk-on after attending Suffield Academy. The guard attended Campbell Hall High School before joining Suffield Academy. He showed his all-around ability at Suffield last season, averaging six points, four assists,five rebounds, and two steals per game. The team ended the campaign with an 11-5 record and advanced to the New England Class B Quarterfinals. Harper played football, basketball, and baseball while at Campbell Hall. 14 Kasibabu s Biography Jonathan Kasibabu led all Stags with 181 rebounds in which broke out to 5.5 rebounds per game. The forward was ranked in three MAAC statistical categories, namely rebounding (16th with 5.5 per game), blocked shots (7th with 1.2 per game), and eighth in offensive rebounding (2.1 per game). He was among the top rebounders during the MAAC tournament by averaging 8.0 per contest, highlighted by nine against Monmouth. He posted 10 or more rebounds in five games, two of which completed a double-double. The forward garnered 12 points and a personalbest 15 caroms against Sacred Heart and followed up with 16 points and 10 rebounds versus Saint Peter s. He blocked at least one shot in 21 games, putting together a run of 10 straight games with a block. He totaled 19 rejections over those 10 games (1.9 per game). He tallied four blocks in the MAAC tournament quarterfinal game against Saint Peter s, tying his season high set earlier at Marist. Kasibabu was the team s most accurate shooter with a.514 field goal percentage, the only Stag who made more than half of his attempts for the season. He earned the MAAC rookie of the week award on November 23. Before Fairfield Kasibabu attended Westtown School (Pa.) where he earned All- Friends School League first team honors. He garnered his first start in the MAAC quarterfinal game against Saint Peter s and remained among the starting five in the next two postseason games against Monmouth and New Hampshire. During that run, Milin posted his only double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds against Columbia. 18 Sidibe s Biography Season: Amadou Sidibe emerged as one of the conference s top rebounders during the campaign, posting five double-doubles. He started the year with a 10-point, 12- rebound effort against Central Connecticut. He tallied double-doubles in three straight games Loyola, Md. (13 pts, 13 rebs.), Siena (10 pts., 11 rebs.), and Rider (12 pts., 15 rebs.). The forward finished the season among the MAAC leaders in rebounding, securing sixth place with 6.8 caroms per contest. He missed five of the last six regular-season games with injury, but returned to play 15 minutes against Saint Peter s in the MAAC tournament. He finished as the team s most accurate shooter, connecting on 49.1 percent of his shots. He finished with a field goal percentage of.500 or better in nine of 13 games in which he attempted four or more field goals. 20 Smith s Biography Career Game By Game Steve Smith came off the bench for all 13 of his appearances, the last of which came in the Stags postseason game against New Hampshire in the CIT. He scored points in his first three outings, averaging five points per contest during that stretch (15 points). He started with a three-point effort in three minutes of work at Maryland-Eastern Shore and followed up with season highs against Columbia (six points, four rebounds). He would equal that point total one game later at Iona, netting two of four three pointers to reach the mark. All 15 of those points came from behind the three-point arc, netting 6 of 21 attempts from long range on the season. After making five of his first nine tries from behind the arc, he finished the season with one three pointer in his final 12 attempts. Smith has 44 career three pointers in 58 career games. Smith did not play in the first four games of due to injury but came back to play in nine of the next 10 games for the Stags Smith appeared in 18 games during the season which included the final 12 games played by the Stags. The guard scored in 11 of those 18 contests, highlighted by a season-high nine points at Canisius. He scored in three consecutive games during MAAC play with six points against, three points at Manhattan, and three more at Niagara. During the regular season, Smith made all but one of his shots from behind the three-point line with his two-pointer coming at Marist. In the MAAC tournament game versus Saint Peter s, both of his shots were inside the arc. He shot 36 percent outside the three-point arc (14 of 39) and 27 percent inside the arc (3 of 11). He netted six or more points four times, hitting the mark at Northeastern, at Saint Peter s, and while registering a seasonhigh nine points at Canisius Offensively, Smith spent nearly his entire season behind the three-point line as only four of his 74 field goal attempts came inside the three-point arc. Cobb is averaging 15.9 points per game during the current 23-game run (366 points). Take Aways: Curtis Cobb recorded five steals through the first eight games of , but more than doubled that total with three steals in both the NC State and Boston College games. He now ranks third among his teammates with 12 steals on the season. Three Of A Kind: Curtis Cobb set a season-high with four assists at Bucknell and has equalled that mark in each of the next two games, matching the mark against North Carolina State and Boston College. The sophomore has 31 assists (2.6 apg) which places third on the team. Charming 13: Curtis Cobb scored 19 points at Siena but 13 of those markers came in the second half. Cobb just missed on his third 20-point game of the season with the performance. He also tied his season highs with eight rebounds and three assists. His positive assist-to-turnover ratio (two turnovers) in the Siena game was his first since dishing off three assists against one turnover against Sacred Heart. 24 Cobb s Biography Curtis Cobb emerged as one of the top freshmen in the MAAC as noted by his selection by the head coaches to the conference s All-Rookie team. He was in the starting lineup for most of the season including his collegiate debut against Yale. In his third game with the Stags, he tallied 13 points and grabbed seven rebounds against Northwestern, the first of 18 double-figure scoring games for the guard. He hit the 20-point mark for the first time at Marist, netting 21 points and securing seven rebounds. The Massachusetts native went on to tally 20 or more points three more times, highlighted by a personal-best 25 points against Canisius at Webster Bank Arena. He missed the final two regular-season games and two MAAC tournament contests with an injury, but came back to play 17 minutes against New Hampshire in the CIT. Cobb captured the MAAC rookie of the week award after his performance against Canisius. He finished his rookie campaign among the MAAC statistical leaders in scoring (28th with 10.8 ppg) and steals (11th with 1.3 spg). Cobb picked up two or more steals in 13 games, more than any other Stag in Before Fairfield Cobb, a 6-4, 175-pound guard, came to Fairfield as a highlyrated guard who is ranked sixth in Massachusetts (Class of 2015) by ESPN. 28 Head Coach Sydney Johnson Sydney Johnson became the 12th head coach to oversee the Fairfield University men s basketball program when he was introduced in April, Johnson joined the Stags program after spending four seasons as the head coach at his alma mater Princeton University. Head Coach Sydney Johnson begins his fifth season at Fairfield University, leading the Stags to the postseason in two of those campaigns. The Stags reached the MAAC Tournament Championship game, the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) semifinals, and defeated Arizona State, Old Dominion, and Iona, among others, en route to a 22-win season. In , the Stags earned another postseason berth as a participant in the 2013 CIT. Fairfield posted 41 victories under Coach Johnson in his first two seasons and 55 wins overall. His 41 wins through his first two campaigns ties him for the most by any Fairfield men s basketball coach through his first two seasons. The Stags three postseason wins in were the most by any team in school history. Fairfield also led the MAAC in scoring defense at 61.1 ppg in his inaugural season. Since his arrival, five Fairfield student-athletes have signed professional contracts, namely Rakim Sanders (Israel), Ryan Olander.(Lithuania), Derek Needham (Lithuania), Colin Nickerson (Canada), and Maurice Barrow (Austria). At Princeton, Johnson led the Tigers to the Ivy League championship and an automatic berth to the NCAA tournament. Princeton took the University of Kentucky to the final seconds before dropping a decision in the NCAA tournament second round. It marked the second straight season that the program advanced to postseason play, playing in the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) in During his tenure, Johnson owned a record as the Tigers head coach. Johnson helped turn around the Princeton program in his four-year stay as the Tigers posted a 6-23 overall record and a 3-11 Ivy League slate in his first season. After improving to overall and 8-6 in Ivy play in , Johnson led Princeton to its first 20-win season since 2004 when the team finished the year with a 22-9 overall record. This year, the Tigers tied the second-highest win total in Princeton history with a 25-7 mark. Under his guidance, Princeton has become one of the top defensive teams in the country. The Tigers led the nation in scoring defense during the season, allowing fewer total points (1652) and fewest points per game (53.3) than any other Division I team that year. Georgetown advanced to the postseason in all three of his years as an assistant coach which included two NCAA tournaments and one NIT berth. Johnson also experienced postseason play as a student-athlete, leading the Tigers to the NCAA tournament during the and seasons. In the 1996 tournament, Princeton upset defending national champion UCLA to advance to the second round. As a student-athlete, Johnson earned the 1997 Ivy League Player of the Year as well as an All-Ivy League first team honors in and He is the only three-time captain in Princeton men s basketball history. He earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 1997, but decided to continue his basketball career overseas. He was a starter for Gorizia Pallacanestro in Italy and helped the team capture the Italian Second Division championship. The following season, he was part of another championship team as Reggio Calabria won the league title. I think Sydney exhibits all the qualities of a successful head coach, said Fairfield University Director of Athletics Gene Doris. He embraces the Jesuit philosophy, which is the cornerstone of Fairfield University, and exhibited a clear understanding of the University s mission during the interview process. He leads by example, something that is quite visible when you see the passion and enthusiasm he brings to everything he does. He has been a leader throughout his career, bringing teams to the NCAA tournament as a player and as a coach. He places strong value on academics, which is evident in the success his student-athletes have achieved in the classroom.
