The Saints have dropped two in a row and three of their last four overall. On the road this season, Siena is 2-5 with victories over Colgate (in overtime) and Hofstra. The Saint offensive attack is led by Pre-Season All-MAAC honoree Kollyns Scarbrough. Scarbrough is the lone Siena player to average in double figures, pouring in over 13 points per game. She is also in rebounding (7.2 boards per game) and field-goal percentage (49.6%). Sophomore post Maddie Sims has been a factor in the paint for the Saints, scoring nine points per tilt, grabbing over six rebounds per contest and swatting a team-high 12 shots. Starting point guard Deja Rawls is dishing out over four assists per game, which ranks third in the MAAC. As a team, Siena leads the MAAC with nearly 10 steals per game. The Saints also rank in the top-three in the conference in scoring margin (-4.0), rebounding (37.5) and offensive rebounding (13.6). ALL-TIME SERIES VS. THE SAINTS Siena leads the all-time series, The Broncs have the edge of late having won the last two contests between the two teams and three of the last four overall. LAST YEAR AGAINST SIENA In , the Broncs swept the season series with the Saints in a pair of tightly contested games. Rider won the two games by a combined three steals. In early January in Loudonville, Rider erased a late second-half deficit with nine points in the final 28 seconds to stun Siena, 62-61, on the road. Trailing by one with nine seconds left, Stella Johnson stole the inbounds pass at midcourt and went in for a contested lay-up for the eventual game-winner with four seconds left. Without a timeout, Siena saw their inbounds pass once again stolen by Johnson to seal the thrilling come-from-behind win. One month later, Kamila Hoskova recorded her first career double-double thanks to a 20-point, 11-rebound performance to lead Rider past visiting Siena, Hoskova scored six of the final eight Bronc points as Rider held off a late rally Saint rally. LAST TIME OUT Marist jumped out to an early 21-point advantage in the first quarter and held off a Rider rally to take down the Broncs, 80-69, in the MAAC opener for both teams. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Rider against the Red Foxes. In the setback, Rider won the final three quarters, outscoring Marist, 61-51, during the final 30 minutes. The Broncs shot over 47 percent from the field, but were outrebounded The Red Foxes also held a edge in points in the paint. SETTLING IN Sophomore forward Lea Favre has been on fire over her last three games. During that span, she has shot 64 percent (20-of-31) from the field and scored in double figures all three times. She has averaged 16 points and four rebounds per game. Favre has also knocked down all eight of her free throws. SHOOTER Sophomore Lexi Stover has been hot from beyond the arc over the last month. In December (a stretch of six games) she is shooting over 45 percent (15-of-33) from three-point range. In the final month of the calendar year, she has hit a three-pointer in all six games and has hit three or more from deep in three of last four games. She leads the Broncs this season with 19 three-pointers made and she s shooting a team-best 38 percent from beyond the arc.
3 STUFFING THE STAT SHEET Stella Johnson continues to stuff the stat sheet night in and night out for Rider. Versus Marist on December 28, she scored a team-high 26 points to go along with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. In the game she had a three-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. BIG NIGHT Thrust into a starting role against Binghamton, Lexi Stover knocked down a career-high four three-pointers and played a career-best 39 minutes. Stover scored in double figures for the first time this season and the first time since the campaign (her true freshman season). Versus Marist she scored 11 points off the bench. She s scored in double figures in backto-back games. BOARD MEETING Sophomore transfer Aubre Johnson grabbed a career-best nine rebounds against Binghamton on December 21. It marked her fourth game this season with eight or more boards. She currently leads the team with just under 6.0 rebounds per game. In the post, five of her last six shots as well. COMING AROUND After struggling from the field early in the season, Rider has shot 45 percent or better in four of its last five games. The Broncs shot 51.9 percent (28-54) at La Salle, 45.6 percent (26-57) at Mount St. Mary s and a season-best 59.6 percent (28-47) at NJIT. Against Marist, the Broncs hit over 47 percent (28-59) from the field thanks to a hot stretch in the second and third quarters that saw them hit 17-of-26. Versus Vermont on December 1, the Broncs hit eight three-pointers, against La Salle the team knocked down 6-of-12 attempts from beyond the arc and at Mount St. Mary s they shot a season-best 55.6 percent from three-point range and hit a season-high 10 shots from three-point range. GRAND THEFT AUTO Stella Johnson had three steals versus Vermont. She has had three or more steals in five of her last six games. She has registered three or more thefts in a game seven times in Johnson opened the year with six steals at home versus Bucknell. She leads the team with 31 steals this season is averaging 2.6 steals per game. She is currently second in the MAAC in both steals and steals per game. CHARITY STRIPE At NJIT on December 16, Rider shot a season-best 90.9 percent from the free-throw line (20-of-22). It marked the third time this season that the Broncs had hit 20 or more free throws in a game. Rider is 3-1 in when hitting better than 77 percent of their free-throw attempts in a game. On the year, the team has hit 72.8 percent ( ) of their free throws, which ranks second in the MAAC. ASSIST-TO-TURNOVER RATIO Rider has had more assists than turnovers in three of their last six games. To start conference play versus Marist, Rider had 15 assists and 11 turnovers. Against NJIT the team had a 1-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio (18 & 18). Versus Vermont, the Broncs had 12 assist and just nine turnovers. Against La Salle, Rider had 18 dimes and 17 giveaways. The Broncs are 2-1 when they have more assists than turnovers and are 3-1 when their assist-toturnover ratio is 1-to-1 or better. 4 DISHING IT OUT Against Marist, Stella Johnson and Kamila Hoskova combined for 11 of the team s 15 assists. Versus Vermont Stella Johnson and junior point guard Lexi Posset combined for 10 assists and just two turnovers. Posset had four dimes in the game. At Mount St. Mary s, Posset had six assists and three turnovers. It was her fourth game this year with four or more assists. She also had six in the season opener against Bucknell and against East Carolina. This season, Posset has a teambest 35 assists (3.2 APG). At NJIT, Hoskova had a career-high six assists, while committing just one turnover. COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS PLAYER OF THE WEEK After a career-best performance against NJIT last week, redshirt sophomore forward Lea Favre was honored as the College Sports Madness MAAC Women s Basketball Player of the Week. Favre became the second straight Bronc to earn the distinction after Kamila Hoskova picked up the honor the previous week. The weekly accolade was the first of Favre s young career at Rider. Favre scored a career-high 22 points in a 15-point Rider win at NJIT on Saturday. She knocked down 8-of-10 from the field and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line. Her eight field-goals made and six free throws were also career-bests for the six-foot redshirt sophomore. Favre also grabbed one rebounds and dished out one assist in the victory versus the Highlanders. Last time out against the Bearcats, Favre scored in double figures for the second tilt in a row. It was her third contest with 10 or more points this season. PLAYERS OF THE WEEK A pair of Rider University women s basketball players earned weekly honors from the MAAC as announced by the league office on Monday, December 11. Senior Kamila Hoskova was named the MAAC Player of the Week and freshman Jaiden Morris was tabbed as the MAAC Rookie of the Week. Hoskova was also honored as the College Sports Madness MAAC Women s Basketball Player of the Week on December 11th by the organization. It was the third time in her career she earned that recognition after picking up the distinction twice as a junior. Hoskova picked up weekly accolades from the MAAC for the first time in her career, while Morris garnered rookie of the week distinction for the second time in The duo is the first set of teammates to sweep the MAAC weekly awards this season and the first to do so in the MAAC since a pair of Quinnipiac players in February of Hoskova and Morris are the second Broncs during Head Coach Lynn Milligan s tenure to sweep the MAAC weekly awards. BENCH MOB Off the bench, freshman Jaiden Morris and sophomore Lexi Stover combined for 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting against Mount St. Mary s. Morris scored in double figures off the bench for the fifth time this season, while Stover tied a career-high with three three-pointers made. In total, the duo was 4-of-7 from beyond the arc versus the Mountaineers. Against NJIT, the duo had 14 points thanks to Stover pouring in eight. LEADING THE WAY Kamila Hoskova scored a career-high 32 points on 11-of-20 shooting against Mount St. Mary s. It marked the second time this season that she has topped the 20-point plateau. At NJIT, she poured in 17 points. Hoskova has scored in double figures nine times and has led the team in scoring in five games. She has a team-best 14.9 points per game and is second on the team in rebounding with just under six boards per contest. MAKING HER MARK Hoskova currently ranks third in Rider history in free-throw shooting percentage. She is just the third player in program history to knock down over 80 percent of her shots from the charity stripe. She has hit 239-of-293 attempts. She has played in 104 games for the Broncs in her career and has scored over 975 career points. Hoskova is fifth in Rider history in threepoint field goal percentage (.343) and currently fifth in field goal percentage (.447). Hoskova has made 27 straight free throws over her last three-plus games. BLOCK PARTY Rider had a season-high eight blocks in the win at La Salle. It was their most in a game since swatting 10 shots at home versus Monmouth on February 21 of last season. Stella Johnson set a new career-high with four blocks. Entering the game, she had two blocks on the season. Aubre Johnson all set a new career-best with two blocks, while Lexi Posset also added a pair of blocks against the Explorers. LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING Stella Johnson continues to stuff the stat sheet. Versus La Salle she had 11 points on 5-of-11 shooting to go along with five rebounds, five assists, four blocks and three steals. WHAT A GAME Stella Johnson scored 28 points on an impressive 11-of-14 shooting versus Vermont. Johnson also added six assists, five steals, four rebounds and knocked down 4-of-5 from three-point range. She posted a career-best 6-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio. She set new career bests in points (28), field goals made (11) and three-point field goals made (4).
5 HEAD COACH 11TH SEASON RIDER 92, 94 The team had a record-breaking in , finishing 24-9 and earning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) automatic bid to the WNIT thanks to a second-place finish during the regular season. The postseason berth was the first for the Broncs at the Division I level. LYNN MILLIGAN In , Milligan led the Broncs to 15 wins, tying for fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference and Rider advanced to the MAAC semifinals for the first time and the Broncs won their first playoff game since During that season, Milligan put a player on the All-MAAC First Team for the second season in a row with MyNeshia McKenzie a finalist for Player of the Year honors in the conference. McKenzie graduated as Rider s all-time leading rebounder and third on the all-time scoring list. Milligan also had a player on the MAAC All-Rookie team with Julia Duggan earning Rider s fifth All-Rookie honor in Milligan s first seven seasons. Milligan picked up her 100th career win as the Head Coach of the Broncs during the season and she now ranks second all-time in program history in wins. She was named both the MAAC Coach of the Year in a vote of her peers and the Maggie Dixon Division I Coach of the Year by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association. Milligan was the first Rider Head Coach to earn both distinctions. Milligan guided the Broncs to arguably the most successful season in program history in , racking up 24 wins and earning the No. 2 seed in the MAAC Tournament. Picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, Rider posted an 8-2 mark both on the road and at home in conference play. The team swept eight MAAC opponents during the regular season and was ranked for four weeks in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top-25 Poll. The 24 wins are the most victories by the Broncs under Milligan and the most for the program since the team won 26 games during the season. The 24 wins against Division I opponents is the most in a single season in program history as well. The 16 MAAC wins are also the most under Milligan in a season and in program history. The team finished above.500 in conference play for the third time since entering the league and the No. 2 seed is the best for Rider since joining the MAAC as well. In , the women s basketball team saw four players earn All-MAAC honors as announced in early March by the league office. The four players earning All-MAAC honors is a new program record for Rider as the team saw three players receive league-wide distinction in , and The four players honored by the league were the most by any team in the conference this year. In , Milligan s squad posted double-digit wins for the fourth season in a row before being held to eight wins this past season. With 15 wins in , Rider had its best season since the Broncs went in The 15 wins were the fifth most in the then 74-year history of the program and Rider tied its best MAAC record (10-8), finishing fourth in the conference. Rider made the MAAC quarterfinals and McKenzie earned First Team All-MAAC and Second Team All-MET honors with senior Caitlin Bopp earning Third Team All-MAAC honors with freshman Mikal Johnson named to the MAAC All-Rookie team. 6 games, matching the 8-3 start by the squad. The Broncs were led by McKenzie who was recognized with Third Team All-MAAC honors. In , Milligan, for the third season in a row, coached a member of the MAAC All-Rookie team (McKenzie) with Ali Heller earning MAAC Sixth Player of the Year honors after being one of the most prolific three-point shooters in the nation. Caitlin Bopp earned All-Rookie honors in with Sarah Homan earning All-Rookie honors in In her second season at the helm of the Broncs program, Rider finished with its most victories since the season and its second highest MAAC win total all-time, earning Milligan consideration for MAAC Coach of the Year. In Milligan s first season, Rider tripled its win total in the MAAC and the excitement that Milligan brought to the program boosted attendance in Alumni Gym to almost 600 fans per game. Milligan returned to her alma mater to become the new head coach of the Rider University women s basketball team, on April 24, Returning to Rider has been a dream come true, said Milligan, who was a twosport stand-out for the Broncs. I was thrilled to come home to a place that is so special to me and have the opportunity to lead the women s basketball program into the future. Milligan returned to Rider from Saint Joseph s University in Philadelphia, Pa., where she served as an assistant coach for six years, the last two as the top assistant. Saint Joseph s earned a berth in the WNIT five times during her last six seasons. At Saint Joseph s, Milligan was directly responsible for recruiting and guard play for a program that compiled 111 wins during her last six seasons with the team. Three of her last five recruiting classes were nationally ranked. She assisted with all aspects of the Hawks program, including on-court instruction, scouting, gameplan preparation, academic support and fundraising. Prior to joining Saint Joseph s, Milligan spent six years as the top assistant coach at Drexel University. In her final season, she helped guide Drexel to a record overall and a 13-5 mark in the America East Conference, tying for second place and advancing to the semifinal round of the league tournament. Milligan arrived in Philadelphia following a one-year stint as an assistant coach at Central Connecticut State. At Rider, Milligan earned a bachelor s degree in communication in 1992 and earned a master s degree in counseling in Also a three-year member of the Bronc softball team, Milligan collected more than 100 career hits in just three seasons and helped lead the team to the 1990 East Coast Conference Championship as the team s leading hitter and to the 1991 Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship. The 1992 Rider basketball team was the most successful in 10 years when Milligan was a senior and went 9-3 in the East Coast Conference. In her two seasons as a Rider graduate assistant coach, the Broncs were a combined 35-20, including a record in the Northeast Conference. A native of Voorhees, N.J., Milligan is a member of Eastern High School s Athletic Hall of Fame. Milligan has a twin sister, Aileen, who played basketball at Loyola College in Maryland. Milligan is an active member of the Women s Basketball Coaches Association. She currently resides in Voorhees with her husband, Patrick.
