After defeating Kennesaw State in convincing fashion, 94-51, Tuesday night, the Yellow Jackets will face two very stiff challenges when they play the No. 13/13 Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-0) and the No. RV/18 Green Bay Phoenix (3-0) Friday and Saturday, respectively, in the San Juan Shootout. Tech will be seeking its best start in head coach MaChelle Joseph s nine year tenure on The Flats. With a pair of wins, not only would the Jackets surely be ranked, they would post the first 6-0 start to a season since beginning the season 8-0. In Tuesday s win over the Lady Owls, junior Danielle Hamilton-Carter tallied her first career double-double with career-bests in scoring (14) and rebounds (10). Sophomore Tyaunna Marshall tied for team-high honors with 14 points and freshman Tjasa Gortnar pitched in 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting off the bench. Seniors Seek Wins Record: The Georgia Tech senior class has a chance to set the school record for wins by a single class over its four year career. Each of the last three classes to graduate from Tech has set the record, which currently stands at 91 by the 2011 class of Alex Montgomery and Deja Foster. Currently, the 2012 class has 73 wins and would need 18 more to tie the mark of 91. Chasing 1,000: Senior Sasha Goodlett, 895 career points, needs 105 points to become the 25th Yellow Jacket to score 1,000 career points this season. Climbing Record Book: Senior Metra Me-Me Walthour is climbing the Georgia Tech record books. Walthour currently has 273 career assists. Currently 10th on the GT assists list is Kate Brandt with 298. If she ties Senior Class Victories her total of 132 assists from , Walthour would finish her career in fifth. Walthour also has a chance to break into the school s top 10 in career steals. Walthour currently has 162 steals. Currently 10th on the GT steals list is Milli Martinez with 187. If Walthour ties her 81 steals from a year ago, she will finish 239 and in fifth. Getting Offensive: Through the first three games, the Yellow Jackets were third in the with 86.0 ppg. Through the first three games of , the Jackets averaged 69.3 ppg. Tech ranks in the top three in seven statistical categories. Gwinnett Power: In Tech s first three home games, all played at The Arena at Gwinnett Center, the Jackets are averaging 92.7 ppg and are winning by an average of 44.7 ppg. Coming Back: Georgia Tech returns 12 letterwinners and three starters from last season. The returnees represent 71.5 percent of last season s scoring and 65.4 percent of rebounding. Gortnar s Summer: Freshman Tjasa Gortnar played for her home country of Slovenia in the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championships held in Chile. In pool play, Gortnar led all scorers with 20.3 points per game while shooting 56.8 percent from the field. Gortnar was second in pool play with 9.7 rebounds an outing. International Activity: Gortnar was not the only Yellow Jacket active in international play over the summer. Junior Danielle Hamilton-Carter played for Sweden in the World University Games in China. The Swedes advanced to the semifinals and were the highest finishing European team. Sophomore Frida Fogdemark also played for Sweden in the FIBA U20 European Championships in Macedonia.
