Tech is 12-1 in the friendly confines of the AMC in NOT BAD ON THE ROAD EITHER The Yellow Jackets finished the season with a program best 8-6 mark on the road. The record does not stand out next to the team s home mark, but it is only the third time in 6

7 school history that the Jackets won at least seven road games in a season ( and ) and only the fourth time that the team finished with a road record above.500. Tech is 4-2 in road contests during the season. DEPTH FINDER In 19 of Tech s 22 games this season, head coach MaChelle Joseph has played at least 10 players, using her depth to the benefit of the Jackets. GLASS CLEANERS In 22 games this season, Tech has out-rebounded its opponents in 18 contests. The Jackets out-rebounded No. 8 North Carolina by 10 (39-29), No. 12 Georgetown by five (35-30), No. 1 Connecticut by two (40-38) and No. 4 Tennessee by one (37-36). Tech was outrebounded by Georgia State, 37-34, Georgia, 50-29, Wake Forest, 36-32, and #3/3 Duke, For the season, Tech is out-rebounding its opponents by an average of 39.4 to FEET WITH THE JACKETS Georgia Tech has led the NCAA in steals per game in two of the last three seasons. This has to be credited to Coach Joseph s pressing defense. Joseph will press for 40 minutes with numerous schemes to keep the offense off balance. Joseph wants her team to be an impressive running defensive team that creates opportunities for the offense. Under Coach Joseph, the Yellow Jackets have registered the four top seasons for steals in school history. In , Tech has grabbed 253 steals in 22 games, 11.5 spg. TURNING TURNOVERS INTO POINTS The Yellow Jackets not only take the ball away from their opponents, they also put the ball in the basket after those turnovers. Through 20 games in , Tech has forced 473 opponent turnovers and turned them into 477 (21.7 per game) points on the offensive end. NOT SO CHARITABLE The difference in the Nov. 14 loss at Old Dominion came at the charity stripe. The Yellow Jackets converted only 12-of-26 free throws and lost by two, Additionally, ODU made two free throws when it mattered and Tech didn t. With 4.6 seconds left, ODU s Jasmine Parker converted two attempts to give the Lady Monarchs the twopoint edge. Marshall made a good play to drive the length of the floor and get to the free throw line, but missed the front end of her attempts, intentionally missed the second, and ODU sealed the win. For the season, Tech is converting only 63.7 percent of its free throw attempts. The Jackets are shooting 67.3 percent from the line in their 17 wins this season, but only 51.1 from the stripe in five losses. COMEBACK KIDS Despite being down seven with 1:06 to play, the Jackets didn t quit in their ACC opener against #8/8 UNC. Ty Marshall hit an NBA range three with two seconds on the shot clock and Tech forced a turnover as the Tar Heels were unable to inbound the ball. Deja Foster got a jumper underneath the basket, stole the ball and Metra Walthour knocked down the game-winning three from the corner with 23.6 seconds left. CAROLINA BLUES The win over the Tar Heels was the Yellow Jackets third straight win over UNC at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. The win also gave Tech back-to-back wins over UNC for the first time since Jan. 9, 1991, and Feb. 22, 1991, a streak of 40 games. BIG GAME TY Freshman Ty Marshall has tallied at least 20 points in five games this year. Three of those games came against Top 25 teams, with two of them being against Top 10 foes. Against No. 1 Connecticut on Nov. 21, Marshall tossed in 23 points. Two weeks later against in-state rival and 21st ranked Georgia, the Upper Marlboro, Md., native finished with 20 points. Marshall s latest installment of big game performances came in Tech s win over No. 8 North Carolina when she finished with 24 points. FOUR GAME STRETCH Over the four game stretch of at Washington, vs. Mercer, Tennessee State and Jacksonville State, Georgia Tech had an average margin of victory of 47.5, the closest of which was the 29 point win at Washington. In those four games, Tech shot 50.8 percent from the field while its opponents mustered only a 24.8 conversion rate. The Jackets also out-rebounded those four by an average of 18.8 and have a turnover margin of plus RECORD NIGHT Georgia Tech made its way into the NCAA record books as its defense shut down the Tennessee State offense. Tech tied the NCAA record for fewest points allowed in a half as TSU only scored three points in the opening 20 minutes, all of which came on free throws from Jasmine Brimm. The Jackets set the NCAA record for fewest points allowed in a Division I game as they held the Lady Tigers to only 11 total points for the contest. Tennessee State was 0-of-24 from the field in the first half and 3- of-50 for the game. The Lady Tigers first points of the game were two Brimm free throws at 11:05 of the first half. Tech forced a season-high 35 turnovers and turned them into 43 points. OFFENSIVE OUTBURST The Jackets went over 100 points for the first time since a double overtime loss to Virginia in the 2008 ACC Tournament and the first time in regulation since MaChelle Joseph took over the Yellow Jacket program, with the win over Mercer. Tech had a season-high 51 first half points, recorded the third highest field goal percentage game at 62 percent and converted a season-best 44 field goal attempts. JACKETS GET DEFENSIVE Over the three-game stretch against Washington, Mercer and Tennessee State, the Jackets were extremely defensive in the second half, allowing an average of just 11 second-half ppg. In the Dec. 23 game at Washington, Tech limited the Huskies to only nine second half points and only 27 for the game, which tied the record for fewest points by a Yellow Jacket opponent. The 7

When the Jackets hosted Tennessee State on Dec. 30, they limited TSU to only eight second half points. MONTGOMERY HONORED Senior Alex Montgomery earned her second ACC Player of the Week award on Dec. 27 after leading Tech to a 2-0 week in the Pacific Northwest. It is the second time this season and for her career that she has earned POW honors. For the week, Montgomery led the team in points (34/17.0 ppg), rebounds (17/8.5 rpg) and steals (6/3.0 spg). She converted nearly 62 percent of her field goal attempts and 73 percent of three-point attempts, and shot at least 50 percent from the field in both outings. Head Coach MaChelle Joseph praised her senior for the poise and composure it took to put on the performances she did in the high-pressure situation of playing in front of a large contingency of family & friends for the first time. SWEEP SUCCESS After finishing off a 3-0 week with a 16-point win over the then #21/22 Georgia Lady Bulldogs, Montgomery and Marshall earned a sweep of ACC weekly accolades. En route to earning her first ACC Player of the Week honor, Montgomery averaged a team-best 20.7 ppg and 8.3 rpg, and was second with 3.7 apg and 1.7 spg. She converted on 58 percent of field goal attempts and shot 57.1 percent from behind the arc. She scored at least 16 points and was at least 50 percent from the field in each game this week. Marshall, who earned her third ACC Rookie of the Week honor, was second on the team with 12.3 ppg, and added 3.0 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.7 spg. She posted her second career 20-plus point performance with 20 points against Georgia. Despite making only 1-of-5 field goal attempts against Northwestern, she finished the week shooting 44.4 percent from the field. NOTING GEORGIA WIN Tech s 16-point win over in-state rival Georgia marked the largest win by the Jackets over the Lady Bulldogs. The previous largest margin was the 15-point difference (57-42) in the 2008 matchup in Atlanta. The Jackets are 4-29 all-time against UGA, but have won two of the last three and two in a row at home. The Lady Bulldogs are the sixth ranked team Tech has beaten in the MaChelle Joseph era. DOUBLE TROUBLE In the Dec. 3 win over Middle Tennessee State, senior Alex Montgomery posted her third consecutive double-double with game-highs of 16 points and 10 rebounds. She also tied a game-high with five assists and posted a contest-best three steals. The Tacoma, Wash., native has 13 career double-doubles, including four this season. PLAYING WITH A FULL HOUSE The contest with Georgia marked the first time this season that head coach MaChelle Joseph has taken the court with her full compliment of players. The Jackets began the season without senior Deja Foster and sophomore Danielle Hamilton-Carter. Foster, recovering from a knee injury, returned to the lineup against the Lady Vols in St. Thomas. Hamilton-Carter was forced to sit out the entire season and the first 10 games of due to NCAA international rules. STEPPING UP TO THE CHALLENGE Senior Alex Montgomery showed why head coach MaChelle Joseph wants her taking more shots against Northwestern in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Montgomery scored a career-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting against the Wildcats. Her biggest shot of the night - a threepointer with 12.6 seconds left - ended a span of 5:47 without field goal and gave Tech a

9 lead. After Northwestern missed an open three of its own, Montgomery grabbed her 11th rebound of the night, was immediately fouled and hit both free throws to ice the game for the Jackets. Montgomery has scored in double digits in three of her four ACC/Big Ten Challenge games. Last season, at Penn State, she tossed in 14 and as a sophomore against a ranked Michigan State team, Montgomery scored a game-high 20 points. HOT CORNER Montgomery s three against the Wildcats isn t the first time she s hit a big three-pointer from that corner of the AMC. As a freshman against Miami on Jan. 13, 2008, she hit a three from nearly the identical spot at the buzzer to send Tech past the Hurricanes, TESTED IN PARADISE While classes weren t in session over Thanksgiving, the Jackets were certainly tested during their stay in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands at the Paradise Jam. In its opening game of the Reef Division, Tech dropped a hard-fought, 67-58, contest to #12/12 ranked Georgetown, despite holding a advantage at halftime. The Jackets offense stalled out, and Tech managed to convert only 28 percent (7-of-25) of field goals in the second half and scored only 19 points in the final 20 minutes. In its second contest in St. Thomas, Tech faced the #4/4-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers in a contest that would be disrupted for a total of 43:15 due to island-wide power outages. Tech again struggled from the floor, making only two field goals in the final 14:17 of the first half. Tech rebounded to win its final game of the Paradise Jam by defeating Missouri, Tech began the game effectively on offense, but struggled down the stretch, finishing the first half with just a 23.3 shooting percentage. Joseph s defense returned to form as it limited the Tigers to only 46 points. WELCOME TO THE THRILLERDOME The Yellow Jackets welcomed a record-setting crowd to Alexander Memorial Coliseum for the matchup with the Connecticut Huskies Nov. 21. A crowd of 7,325 clicked through the turnstiles to see the Yellow Jackets take on the top-ranked team in the country. It was the first time a crowd of over 7,000 has been in attendance for a stand-alone women s game at AMC. The previous largest crowd to ever see a women s game at Alexander Memorial Coliseum came on Feb. 8, 1995, when 6,621 fans packed the AMC to see Tech take on the #11/11 North Carolina Tar Heels. Tech welcomed 5,015 fans to the contest with Georgia, marking the fifth largest crowd to see a women s game at AMC. Two of the top five largest crowds have come this season and two of the top five all-time have come against Georgia. WELCOME TO THE SHOW Freshman Tyaunna Marshall made her collegiate debut in impressive fashion against Georgia State. The Upper Marlboro, Md., native made her first career start in her first career game and scored a game-high 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting. In 24 minutes of action, Marshall also hauled in four rebounds, dished out two assists, grabbed two steals and added Tech s only block for good measure, while not committing a turnover. It is the highest scoring game by a freshman in her first collegiate game during Joseph s tenure at Tech. The previous high came from Jill Ingram who tallied 13 points on 4-of- 10 shooting against Georgia State on Nov. 19, PERFECT! Junior point guard Metra Walthour tallied her second career double figure scoring contest with a perfect 6-of-6 shooting night against Georgia State. Walthour was 1-of-1 from three-point range and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe as she finished with 15 points. Her only previous double digit game also came against the Panthers. 10 2009, matchup at GSU, Walthour struggled from the field, going 2-of-8, but converted all six of her free throw attempts and finished with 10 points. INSIDE PRESENCE Of the 15 players on the Tech roster, 10 are at least six feet tall. The two tallest players on the team are junior center Sasha Goodlett and sophomore post Shayla Bivins, who are each 6 5. Junior LaQuananisha Adams and sophomore Danielle Hamilton- Carter are each 6 4, giving Tech a considerable presence inside. The considerable height the Jackets have allows Tech to work the ball inside. Through 22 games, Tech has outscored opponents 690 (31.4/gm) to 486 (22.1/gm) in the paint. MONTGOMERY NAMED TO NAISMITH PRESEASON WATCH LIST Senior Alex Montgomery was named to the Preseason Naismith Watch List for the nation s best player. Montgomery was named to the third team All-ACC for the second consecutive year last season and was also honored as the ACC Sixth Player of the Year. In league action she averaged 11.6 ppg, 5.7 rpg and over 2.0 apg. She scored in double digits in 20 of 28 games played YELLOW JACKETS NAME CAPTAINS Seniors Alex Montgomery and Deja Foster, and junior Metra Walthour were selected by their teammates and coaches as captains of the Yellow Jacket women s basketball team. Deja, Alex and Me-Me (Walthour) have shown tremendous leadership throughout their time on The Flats, Joseph said. I have no doubt that these three outstanding student-athletes will lead this team and program to unprecedented heights. TECH ADDS TWO IN EARLY SIGNING PERIOD The Jackets added a dynamic duo, beginning in the season, with the signing of Tjasa TJ Gortnar and Sydney Wallace. Gortnar, ranked 10th nationally by Collegiate Girls Basketball Report, is a 6 2 power forward from Kranj, Slovenia, and Wallace, ranked 22nd by Blue Star Basketball, is a 5 10 combo guard from Duluth, Ga. Gortnar adds to a Yellow Jacket squad that is already deep in international flavor and experience. As a member of the 2009 Slovenian U18 European Championship team that finished second, Gortnar averaged 12.1 ppg, 12.6 rpg and 1.4 apg. Her rebound averaged led all competitors, as did her 86.0 percent conversion rate from the charity stripe. She helped Slovenia reach the finals with 22 rebounds in a comeback win over host Israel in the semifinal. While Joseph and her staff had to go half way around the world to find Gortnar, they just had to go down the road to find Wallace, who attended Northview High School in Johns Creek, Ga. She has led her high school squad in assists and steals her first three years on the hardwood and was named the team s best offensive player as a sophomore and junior. Wallace earned first team all-region and team MVP honors in both and In her junior season, she played in the Georgia North-South Junior All-Star Game and earned All-Metro Team honors from the Atlanta Tipoff Club in Collegiate Girls Basketball Report has the Yellow Jacket class ranked 11th nationally and second in the ACC, behind only Duke. The Blue Devils also hold the top national rank. YELLOW JACKETS IN THE RANKINGS The Jackets earned their first ranking of the season on Jan. 24 when they were slotted 25th in the AP poll. It is the 20th week over the last four years under head coach MaChelle Joseph the Jackets have been ranked. The program has only been ranked for 25 weeks in its entire history. The highest in-season ranking is also No. 19, which was established in the Feb. 15, 2010, AP poll. BACK IN ACTION Tech returns four starters from last year s squad that went and 74.3 percent of scoring, led by Montgomery, who averaged 11.9 ppg in The Jackets also bring back 81.3 percent of rebounding, led by Deja Foster who hauled in 6.1 rpg last season. Their will be plenty of ball sharing too, as 86.7 percent of all assists are back and 81.4 percent of steals came from players who are back in SWEET RESULTS IN SEASON OPENERS The Yellow Jackets have enjoyed season openers throughout the program s history. Tech is (.730) all-time on opening day and is 20-4 (since ) when the season opener is played at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Under head coach MaChelle Joseph, the Jackets are 8-0 on opening day and are 6-0 at home. Tech defeated city rival Georgia State, 66-56, to open the campaign at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Freshman Ty Marshall led the Jackcets with 18 points, while junior Metra Walthour tossed in 15 on a perfect 6-of-6 night. Senior Alex Montgomery was a jack-ofall-trades with 13 points, nine rebounds, six assists and five steals. JACKETS PICKED FIFTH AT ACC MEDIA DAY Georgia Tech was picked to finish fifth in the ACC race at the Atlantic Coast Conference Women s Basketball Media Day. Last season, the Yellow Jackets were picked to finish seventh, but head coach MaChelle Joseph s squad ultimately finished in fourth place with an 8-6 league record. Tech finished the campaign overall. Duke was selected as the favorite to win the conference for the first time since The Blue Devils received 24 of 33 first-place votes. STAFF CHANGES Head Coach MaChelle Joseph announced the hiring of assistant coach Jim Lewis and former Yellow Jacket Janie Mitchell as coordinator of recruiting operations this offseason. Lewis comes to Tech with over 40 years of coaching experience, including head coaching stints at Fordham and George Mason. Most recently, Lewis was an assistant coach and director of scouting for the WNBA s Indiana Fever. Mitchell, who graduated from Georgia Tech in 2008, was an All-ACC player under Joseph. Mitchell was a three year captain for the Jackets and still ranks seventh in career points, 1,422 and ninth in career rebounds, 704. She was named All-ACC honorable mention in 2007 and third team All-ACC in

11 SALUTE YOUR ELDERS In addition to having significant height on the roster, head coach MaChelle Joseph also boasts a bevy of experienced upperclassmen with seven student-athletes who are juniors or seniors. Joseph will still have a balance of young and old, with eight underclassmen, including five newcomers. TO BE THE BEST, YOU HAVE TO BEAT THE BEST Head coach MaChelle Joseph knows that in order to be the best, you have to beat the best, and she certainly created a schedule that will test the Jackets mettle this season. The Jackets began the year with five games in 10 days and 11 in the first 23, including contests with two-time defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Connecticut, 12th ranked Georgetown, perennial power and fourth-ranked Tennessee, then-undefeated Northwestern and in-state rival Georgia Dec. 5. In total, Tech will face eight teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 and 11 teams that made the 2010 NCAA Tournament and six who played in the postseason WNIT. COMING TO A TV NEAR YOU With the recent success, media outlets are beginning to take notice of the Yellow Jackets, who have nine games scheduled to be on TV in Last season, Tech was on the small screen 13 times. If you include this season, the Jackets will have been televised 114 times since SWEDISH CONNECTION This season, the Yellow Jackets will feature three players from Sweden, who all bring national team experience to the Flats. Sophomore Danielle Hamilton-Carter and freshman Sandra Ngoie- Hasahya both hail from the capital of Stockholm. Freshman Frida Fogdemark is from Södertälje. 500 DOWN, NOW ON TO THE NEXT 500 The Georgia Tech women s basketball program earned its 500th all-time victory when it defeated the Maryland Terrapins, 61-60, on Feb. 5, 2010, in College Park, Md. Montgomery (20) and Ardossi (15) were a combined 14-of-29 against the Terrapins, leading Tech to the win. Over the 36 seasons of women s basketball on the Flats, Tech is (.496) in 1,018 games. Since the season, Georgia Tech has won 179 games (35.4 percent of all wins). 11
