This will be the second trip to South Florida in a month as the Jackets won the FIU Sun & Fun Classic with wins over Quinnipiac and FIU on Dec. 29 and 30. Freshman Brittany Jackson earned her second ACC Rookie of the Week award after scoring a game-high 20 points in contests against Virginia and at No. 11 North Carolina last week. She is only the fourth Jacket to win multiple ACC Rookie of the Week awards. Jackson scored 40 points in only 53 minutes of play last week and made nine 3-pointers. Tech will be trying for its first win at Miami since Feb. 21, 2010, a victory. The Jackets last trip to Coral Gables was an overtime loss on Jan. 30, 2011, in which four GT starters fouled out. Mo Bennett s jumper with six seconds left in regulation tied the game at 70 and forced overtime. Then freshman Tyaunna Marshall had 11 points and five rebounds for the Jackets. MIAMI 1/9/12 DULUTH, GA. -- Sasha Goodlett finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Georgia Tech (11-5, 1-2) which lost to No. 13 Miami on Monday night. Chelsea Regins had 16 points and 10 boards. Shenise Johnson scored 24 points, Morgan Stroman added 18 with 10 rebounds for Miami. Regins three-point play brought Georgia Tech within four at 54-50, but the Yellow Jackets went 4:29 without a field goal, and Miami took the game s biggest lead at 15 on Shanel Williams layup at the 7:28 mark. After Goodlett s two-footer made it with 4:55 remaining, Georgia Tech never got any closer. Johnson, who had seven assists, one turnover and six steals, extended her streak to 87 consecutive games of scoring in double figures, the best in the nation. Last year s ACC player of the year and a preseason All-American this year by The Associated Press, Johnson used a no-look pass to feed Stroman for a fastbreak layup that made it with 10:15 remaining. 6 Seeking Seven Georgia Tech is seeking its seventh straight 20-win season in and its seventh consecutive NCAA tournament berth this season. Overall, the Yellow Jackets have only had nine 20-win seasons and eight NCAA tournament appearances. chasing 200 Head coach MaChelle Joseph, in her 10th season at the helm of the Yellow Jackets, has a chance to become only the second Georgia Tech head coach to win 200 games on the Flats. Joseph currently has 187 wins, needing just 13 more to eclipse the mark. Her predecessor, Agnus Beranato, is the only women s basketball coach at Tech to finish with at least 200 wins. Berenato finished her 15-year tenure leading the Yellow Jackets with a record. 300 on tap Head coach MaChelle Joseph coached in her 300th game at Georgia Tech when the Jackets took on Virginia on Jan. 10 in Atlanta. SILVER ANNIVERSARY TEAM Head coach MaChelle Joseph was named to the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame s 2013 Women s Silver Anniversary Team. The class is based on outstanding accomplishments as a senior basketball player 25 years ago. Joseph was a member of the 1988 Indiana All-Star Squad before going on to an All-American career at Purdue. 1,000 career points Junior Tyaunna Marshall scored her 1,000th career point on a putback against Kennesaw State, Nov. 13, at McCamish Pavilion. She became the 26th Yellow Jacket with 1,000 career points and just the 10th to do so before her senior year at Georgia Tech. Wooden Award Preseason Top 30. The award is presented annually to the outstanding collegiate basketball player of the year. Marshall earned third team All-ACC as a freshman in 2011 and second team All-ACC as a sophomore last season. After leading Tech to only its second ACC championship game appearance in 2012 with three 20-plus point games, Marshall was selected to the ACC All- Tournament First Team. Jackson made nine 3-pointers in the two games. She scored 40 total points in only 53 minutes of play. Jackson was also named ACC Rookie of the Week on Nov. 19 for her performances against Kennesaw State and Marquette. For the week, Jackson averaged 15.0 points and 4.5 rebounds, shot 45 percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from 3-point range. Against Marquette, she scored 21 points and made five 3-pointers. FIVE FROM THREE Freshman Brittany Jackson scored a game-high 20 points against Virginia Jan. 10 at McCamish Pavilion. The rookie tossed in five 3-pointers against the Hoos. It is the second time this season Jackson has made five triples in a game, as she also did so against Marquette Nov. 18. Jackson leads Georgia Tech with 24 3-pointers made this season. She ranks seventh in the ACC in threes per game with 1.8 and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage, making 40.0 percent of long distance attempts. from long range Sophomore Sydney Wallace is already closing in on the Georgia Tech career top 10 for 3-pointers made. Entering the Miami game on Jan. 17, Wallace has made 58 career threes. Currently 10th on the GT all-time list is Christie Finney with 79, just 21 ahead of Wallace. As a freshman, Wallace made POINT matchup Thursday night s game will feature two of the best 3-point defenses in the ACC and two of the better 3-point shooting teams in the ACC. In all games, Miami leads the conference in 3-point defense, holding opponents to only 24.8 percent shooting from beyond the arc. Tech ranks third with opponents shooting at only 26.8 percent. However, in ACC games, the Jackets and Canes rank among the conference leaders in long range buckets. Tech is third with pointers per game and Miami is fourth with 5.0 per outing. HANDY HELPER Junior Dawnn Maye dished out a career-high 12 assists against Florida State. Against the Seminoles, she recorded her third career double-double with points and assists (it was her fourth total double-double). Maye leads Georgia Tech with 91 total assists. Her 5.7 assists per game rank second in the ACC and 26th nationally. Sun & FUN HONORS Junior Dawnn Maye was named MVP of the FIU Sun & Fun Classic on Dec. 29 and 30. Making her fourth career start, she was the only Jacket in double digits with a career-high 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting. The Memphis, Tenn., native knocked down Tech s only 3-pointers, extending the Jackets streak of games with at least one three made to 83 games. Whiteside knocked down three of her five free throw attempts, added four rebounds and only committed one turnover in 30 minutes of play. THE GRADUATE Senior Sharena Taylor was one of 34 Georgia Tech student-athletes to earn their degree at the Dec. 15 Georgia Tech commencement ceremony at McCamish Pavilion. Taylor is the first in her family to graduate from a four-year college and earned her degree in Science, Technology and Culture in only three and a half years. The then-freshman made 19 3-pointers in three games and set a variety of Georgia Tech records.
