4 Message from the South Toronto Athletic Association Executive: South Toronto Athletic Association Site Tournament Guidelines The South Toronto Athletic Association s approved policy to base creation of Divisional Tournament(s) in City and Regional Event(s), based mainly on Geographic location of the varying Host Schools. Special Circumstances may be obtained from Master Convenor s prior to creation of Booklets for special extenuating issue(s). ALL Athletic Booklet(s) will be submitted to the Regional Executive prior to approval to ensure policy is adhered to. All questions, concerns or information based on Tournament selection(s) can be sought from the respective Master Convenor(s) or Regional Executive Member(s). South Toronto Athletic Update Divisionals Hello to all teams competing in various South Toronto Divisional Tourneys. All Teams competing are being asked to bring an Adult (whether a Coach or other Adult) to assist in the proper Officiating of the Divisional Tourneys. Enclosed for EACH Tourney are the assigned games for all respective schools. This will greatly assist the efforts of the Site Convenor(s) to plan for a successful experience for all involved. Schools that do not have an Adult Volunteer will lose a game each time that team is scheduled to Officiate. The overall expectation is to provide a positive experience for all, to support the effort(s) of the Site Convenor(s) and to have a competitive Divisional Tourney that runs smoothly, fairplay as the guiding goal and everyone holding to our Catholic values. Best of Luck to ALL Participants! Please ensure that all this and other information pertaining to the Divisional Tourneys involving your school is given to your Staff who are coordinating the efforts, at your school. If you have any questions contact the Site and Master Convenor highlighted in this year s Divisional Booklet(s). Reno Perlin, South Athletic Ass n 1. A size six ball will be used in all games. TOURNAMENT RULES 2. Proper school uniform is required. Shirts must be tucked into shorts. No jewelry. 3. In three team pools, the divisional games will consist of two twenty-two minute running time halves with a seven minute intermission between halves. The only time the clock stops is during time outs. In three team pools, games should be played at their scheduled times. A convenor may choose to fill some of the in between time with a skills competition. In four team pools, the divisional games will consist of two twenty minute running time halves with a five minute intermission between halves. The only time the clock stops is during time outs. In five team pools, the divisional games will consist of two twelve minute running time halves, with a one minute break between halves. The only time the clock stops is during time outs.
5 4. In the event of a tie, there will be an overtime. Overtime will consist of three minute running time periods until the tie is broken. Each period must be completed before a winner is declared. There will be an intermission of one minute between overtime periods. 5. The Regional games and 2 nd Place Tournament games will consist of two seventeen minute halves running time with a five minute intermission between halves. The only time the clock stops is during time outs. 6. The Challenge games will consist of two twenty minute running time halves with a five minute intermission between halves. The only time the clock stops is during time outs. 7. A jump ball is used to begin the game. Alternate possession takes place for the rest of the game. 8. Each team is permitted four 30 second time outs per game and an additional 30 second time out for each overtime period. The clock stops during time outs. Time outs are called by coaches by alerting the referee during their team s possession, or any time the play is stopped. The time starts again when the ball is touched by a player on the court after the ball is inbounded. 9. Bonus takes place when the opposing team receives its seventh team foul in a half. The player fouled will shoot one plus one. There will be two shots taken in all bonus situations after 10 team fouls in a half (Double Bonus). Second half fouls carry into the overtime. 10. Five personal fouls for the game will result in that player leaving the game. 11. Inappropriate behaviour on or off the court may result in expulsion from further play. This is a decision made by the referees and site convenor, and followed up with the master convenor. 12. There is no three point shot. 13. Rebounders on free throws may enter the key when the ball is released. The shooter must wait for the ball to touch the rim. Players on the outside of the free throw line also have to wait for the ball to hit the rim before entering the key. Failure to follow these rules will result in a violation. Offensive team violation results in the shot not counting. Defensive team violation results in an additional shot for the offensive team. 14. There can only be two offensive rebounders in the key during foul shots. There is a six player maximum line up in the key. The closest rebounder to the basket on a free throw is positioned on the foul line side of the lowest block. 15. Teams have 10 seconds to cross the ball over center court. 16. In divisional play, head to head games break the tie. In the event of more than two teams tied, the records between tied teams breaks the tie. If that does not break the tie, it will be lowest total points against among the tied teams only, will break the tie. If teams are still tied, lowest total points against for the entire tournament will break the tie. If a tie remains, 3 minute overtime periods will be played until there is a winner. 17. All other rules are in line with Ontario Basketball Association rules.
