DEFENSE!! DEFENSE!!: The main component of Jim Larranaga s coaching philosophy, his Scramble defense, has lived up to its reputation over the years. George Mason held 16 of 28 opponents to less than 60 points last year, and concluded the season with a school record 60.5 average in scoring defense. The mark ranked 15th nationally in the final NCAA statistics and was second in the CAA. In fact, 4 of the top 6 seasons in George Mason history in terms of scoring defense have come under Larranaga. However, this year, the Patriots have struggled to keep opponents from scoring as foes are averaging 71.4 points per game.
