Texas leads the series, 64-29, including a mark in Lubbock. The Lady Raiders are the Longhorns most frequent opponent in program history. Texas won the first meeting of the season, 55-44, on Jan. 17 in Austin. Sophomore forward Nekia Jones scored 11 points to lead a stable of 10 different Longhorns who scored points. The Lady Raiders were held to 27 percent shooting; leading scorer Amber Battle was held to 1-for-14 shooting from the field. Texas is 3-2 against Texas Tech under Coach Karen Aston. The all-time series dates back to a Texas victory on Jan. 15, 1977 in Austin. LONGHORNS LEAD CONFERENCE IN ACADEMIC ALL-BIG 12 SELECTIONS A conference-leading eight Texas student-athletes were named to the 2015 Academic All- Big 12 Conference Women s Basketball Team on Thursday. UT s first-team honorees (3.2+ GPA) include Krystle Henderson, Kelsey Lang, Imani McGee-Stafford, Celina Rodrigo, Brady Sanders and Brianna Taylor. Empress Davenport and Nneka Enemkpali received second team honors ( GPA). To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team s scheduled contests. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible. DEEP BENCH 11 Longhorns average more than 10 minutes per game. Texas bench out-scores its counterpart by an average of 24-to-15. Last Time Out 1ST 2ND FINAL Kansas State TEXAS AUSTIN, Texas -- Brady Sanders posted a careerhigh 18 points and three other players reached double figures as No. rv/25 Texas Women s Basketball defeated Kansas State, 76-58, at the Erwin Center on Wednesday night. Freshman guard Ariel Atkins, junior center Imani McGee-Stafford and freshman guard Brooke McCarty added 11 points each for the Longhorns (17-8, 6-8 Big 12). McCarty scored all of her points in the second half on 4-of-6 shooting. Sanders, who posted a game-high six rebounds, shot 5-of-11 from the field, including a career-high tying 4-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Longhorns shot 45.6 percent (26-of-57) from the field, including 53.6 percent in the second half, and held a rebounding advantage over the Wildcats (15-10, 5-9 Big 12). Defensively, Texas forced 19 turnovers and outscored the Wildcats 21-4 in points off turnovers. The Longhorns recorded their largest margin of victory against a conference opponent since winning vs. Texas Tech on Feb. 5, Despite trailing 9-2 and missing its first eight shots, Texas used three 3-pointers, including two from Sanders, to spark a 10-0 run and force a Kansas State timeout with 12 minutes remaining in the opening period. The Horns would not trail the rest of the night. Sanders continued her hot streak from deep, sinking two more back-to-back treys to take a lead, which forced another Wildcats timeout. In just over 12 minutes, the junior guard had already matched her career high in 3-pointers with four. During the last two minutes of the half, Texas used four free throws to take a advantage into the locker room, the largest lead in a half, since opening at Iowa State on Jan. 10. In the opening half, Sanders led the Horns with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting from deep, while Atkins chipped in nine points. Texas outscored the Wildcats, 11-2, in second chance points, thanks to a advantage on the glass, including 10 offensive rebounds. Coming out of the break, Kansas State would cut it its deficit to seven, before the Longhorns would respond with an 11-2 run to build a comfortable lead. Haley Texada paced the Wildcats with 17 points, including 4-of-7 from deep. NOTES Texas improves to 13-2 at home and to 12-0 when scoring 70 points or more this season. The Longhorns lead the all-time series with K-State, 16-14, including a 10-3 mark in Austin. With six 3-point field goals tonight, Texas has made at least five 3-pointers in the last four games. During that four-game stretch Texas is shooting 40.7 percent from beyond the arc ( FG). 2

Last Saturday at Kansas, the Longhorns posted a +23 rebound margin. It marked the third-largest rebound margin this season and largest in a Big 12 contest. UT s rebounding margin ranks 9th in the nation. The Horns are averaging 43.2 rebounds per game and holding opponents to 32.3 boards. WINS AND LOSSES During UT s 17 wins this season, Texas has averaged 73.2 points on 44.8 percent shooting from the field. UT is 17-2 when scoring 60 points or more in a game and 12-0 when scoring 70 points or more. During UT s eight losses, the Horns average 59.4 points on 36.4 percent shooting. Texas has a +2.4 turnover margin during wins and a -6.4 turnover margin in losses. POINTS IN THE PAINT Texas is out-scoring its opponents in the paint by an average of 34-to-21, a +13 point margin. Texas has scored 40+ points in the paint in five games this season. During Big 12 play, Texas has a scoring advantage in the paint. During non-conference play, Texas had a scoring advantage in the paint. The Longhorns scored a season-high 58 points in the paint against McNeese State (Dec. 17). It was the most since scoring 60 in the paint against Sam Houston State last season. At home this season, the Horns are averaging 71.1 points on 45 percent shooting with a scoring margin and a rebounding margin. LANG STAYING CONSISTENT Sophomore center Kelsey Lang is the team s active leading scorer (10.9 ppg), rebounder (6.4 rpg) and shooter (.567; FG). Lang has scored double-figure points in eight of the last 10 games. The Woodlands, Texas native has started in all 24 games she has played in and has reached doublefigure points 15 times. Lang recorded her first career double-double against Baylor (Feb. 8), scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 37 minutes. Lang has scored a career-high 20 points twice this season -- against UTPA (Nov. 26) and Baylor (Feb. 8). Lang was named Big 12 Player of the Week on Dec her first career Big 12 weekly honor. Lang averaged 19 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting.750 (18-of-24) from the field during Texas wins over UT-Pan American and No. 4/5 Tennessee. She went 10-of-19 (.526) from the field, including a 7-of-12 (.583) effort from 3-point range. The League City, Texas, native leads Texas with 32 3-point field goals this season. McCarty has just four turnovers in the last five games. She has converted on 13 of her last 15 trips to the free throw line. When McCarty is on the floor, Texas is out-scoring is opponents with an scoring margin per 40 minutes. McCarty registered her second 20-point effort of the season with 21 points at Oklahoma State (Feb. 11). McCarty played in a conference-high 49 minutes in a double-overtime victory over Oklahoma (Jan. 29). She also dished out a season-high eight assists against the Sooners. McCarty came off the bench to lead the Longhorns in scoring with 20 points (7-14 FG, 5-9 3FG) at UCLA (Nov. 23). The former McDonald s High School All-American made her first career start against Northwestern State (Dec. 14). McGEE-STAFFORD ON A ROLL Junior center Imani McGee-Stafford is beginning to hit her stride after missing eight games due to preseason leg surgery. The Los Angeles native has two double-doubles and four double-figure scoring efforts in the last four games. In her five starts this season, McGee-Stafford averages 14.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.2 blocks, and a.600 shooting percentage in just 24.8 minutes. Per 40 minutes during Big 12 play, she averages 22.1 points, 15.3 rebounds and 4.0 blocks McGee-Stafford has six double-figure scoring efforts in the last seven games. She notched her first 20-point game of the season with 22 points (10-16 FG) in 27 minutes at TCU (Feb. 1). In UT s double-overtime win over Oklahoma (Jan. 29), McGee-Stafford registered her first doubledouble of the season with season highs of 15 points, 11 rebounds and 29 minutes played. On Jan. 17, she became engaged to Paul Boyette Jr., a defensive tackle on the Texas Football team. McGee-Stafford played for the first time of the season on Dec. 17 against McNeese State after recovering from surgery to reinforce her left tibia in September. She missed the first eight games of the season. McGee-Stafford is the 2013 Big 12 Freshman of the Year and earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors last season. ATKINS FINDING HER GROOVE In the last seven games, freshman guard Ariel Atkins is averaging 12.7 points. On the year, Atkins averages 10.3 points per game and leads UT in free throw percentage (.823). Atkins was named the USBWA National Freshman of the Week on Feb. 3 after posting 34 points (17.0 ppg) in two games against Oklahoma (Jan. 29) and TCU (Feb. 1). During UT s double-overtime victory over Oklahoma (Jan. 29), Atkins registered 21 points (7-17 FG, 7-8 FT) in 40 minutes. The Preseason Big 12 Freshman of the Year missed eight games in December and January with an ankle injury, before returning against Texas Tech (Jan. 17). Atkins made her first 14 free throws of her collegiate career. Atkins was a 2014 McDonald s High School All- American and played for the USA Basketball U18 National Team during the summer of SANDERS ASSISTING Junior guard Brady Sanders leads the Longhorns in assists (74; 3.1 apg). But on Wednesday against K-State, she was the go-to scorer; Sanders led UT with 18 points (5-11 FG, 4-8 3FG, 4-4 FT) in 34 minutes. In the last six games, Sanders is averaging 4.6 assists. This season, Sanders has recorded five-or-more assists in a game seven times. Entering the season, she featured just three games with five-or-more assists. Sanders leads the team in minutes played (28.7 mpg). RODRIGO S STREAK ENDS Junior guard Celina Rodrigo s streak of 87 consecutive games played ended last week after she did not register minutes at Kansas (Feb. 14). Included in her 87-game streak are 60 starts with 3.3 assists per game in 21.7 minutes per game. Rodrigo has started 13 games this season. INJURY REPORT Sophomore forward Nekia Jones (left knee) is indefinitely out. Senior forward Nneka Enemkpali (left knee) is out for the season after tearing her ACL at Baylor (Jan 19). To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The Senior CLASS Award winners will be announced during the NCAA Women s Final Four. The 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. ENEMKPALI OUT FOR THE SEASON Senior forward Nneka Enemkpali suffered a season-ending injury on Jan. 19 at Baylor. At the time of her injury Enemkpali led the Big 12 in rebounding (10.6 rpg), double-doubles (9), and rebounding in conferece-only games (12.0 rpg). She was on pace to become the fifth Longhorn to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds, finishing with 1,116 points (30th at UT) and 899 rebounds (9th at UT). Enemkpali is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award. ENEMKPALI STANDS FIRM IN UT S CAREER LISTS Senior forward Nneka Enemkpali ends her collegiate career ranked 9th in career rebounds (899) and 30th in career points (1,116) at Texas. TEXAS EXES WIMBISH-NORTH INDUCTED INTO UT WOMEN S HALL OF HONOR Yulonda Wimbish-North was inducted into the UT Women s Hall of Honor on Nov. 7. Throughout her four years at Texas ( ) Wimbish-North played in 129 of UT s 133 games and finished her career ranked eighth in scoring at Texas with 1,486 points. The Longhorns national championship team is now represented in the UT Women s Athletics Hall of Honor by seven former studentathletes: Clarissa Davis, Kamie Ethridge, Fran Harris, Andrea Lloyd, Annette Smith, Beverly Williams and Wimbish-North. During her collegiate career, the Longhorns won the 1986 NCAA title, tallied a overall record, registered a perfect 64-0 record in SWC play, won four conference regular-season and tournament titles, made two Final Four appearances and finished No. 1 in the final Associated Press poll three times. She earned a bachelor s degree in speech communications in 1988 and earned her master s degree in education-counseling from Eastern Illinois University in Wimbish-North served as an assistant women s basketball coach at the University of Illinois ( ), the University of Detroit-Mercy ( ) and the University of Michigan ( ) and as director of basketball operations at Michigan ( ). HALL TO BE INDUCTED INTO INDIANA BASKETBALL HALL OF FAME On Dec. 16, 2014, it was announced that Vicki Hall will be inducted into the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be April 25, 2015 in New Castle, Indiana. Hall was named Indiana s 1988 Indiana Miss Basketball and received the Gatorade and Naismith National Player of the Year awards after averaging 26.4 points and 11.5 rebounds during her senior year at Brebeuf. Scoring 1,755 points, a career average of 20.2 ppg, she graduated as Indiana s seventh all-time leading girls scorer. Starting 112 of 117 career games at the University of Texas, she recorded 1,831 points and 887 rebounds, graduating as UT s fifth alltime leading scorer, fifth all-time leading rebounder and career leader in 3-point field goals made and 3-point percentage. Following a 16-year professional career in seven countries, including the WNBA, she is in her sixth season as a women s college assistant coach. Following stints at Miami (OH) and New Mexico, she is currently the associate head coach at the University of Toledo. JOY WILLIAMS PASSES AWAY Former standout Joy Williams-Purnell, 53, passed away on Dec. 14, 2014 after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Williams-Purnell was a student-athlete at The University of Texas from 1979 to 1983 under hallof-fame coach Jody Conradt -- a period in which Texas did not lose a single Southwest Conference game. The Waco, Texas native was a four-year starter as a Longhorn and currently ranks third in games played (114), sixth in blocked shots (156), 10th in rebounds (883), and 25th in total points (1,162). She graduated from UT in 1983 with a business management degree. 8

9 NO. 5 IN THE NATION UT s incoming class of newcomers is being heralded as a consensus top-10 class, including a No. 5 ranking by ESPN.com. On Nov. 12, the Longhorns signed four-star forward Christina Aborowa (Ondo, Nigeria), five-star guard Lashann Higgs (Round Rock, Texas), and five-star forward Jordan Hosey (Pearland, Texas) to National Letters of Intent. All three are top-100 recruits, including two consensus top-10 signees -- Higgs and Hosey. Karen Aston: I am so excited to add these three quality young ladies to our Longhorn family. CHRISTINA ABOROWA Forward Ondo, Nigeria (Neumann-Goretti [Pa.] HS) Pronunciation: ah-bore-oh-uh Aborowa is a 6-foot-4 forward ranked No. 77 overall and No. 14 at the forward position in the class of 2015 (ESPN.com). Aborowa was born in Nigeria and has played the last two years in Philadelphia, Pa., at Neumann-Goretti High School and for the Philadelphia Belles club team. Aborowa led Neumann-Goretti to a 29-1 record and the Philadelphia Catholic League title as a junior, with its only loss coming in the state title game. The Round Rock, Texas native is a two-time All-State performer and daughter of Texas assistant coach George Washington. The Pearland, Texas native has led Manvel High School to a combined record over a three-year span, including a 38-2 mark last season to claim the Texas UIL Class 5A state title. Aston was instrumental in the Longhorns trip to the 2003 NCAA Final Four and a pair of Sweet 16 appearances in 2002 and Entering the season, Aston has five postseason appearances as a head coach, a (.592) overall record through seven seasons, and a (.531) record through two seasons as UT s leader. Aston bolstered the Longhorns roster of 10 returning letterwinners for the season with a recruiting class ranked No. 11 by ESPN.com. Included in Aston s marque recruiting class are McDonald s All Americans Ariel Atkins and Brooke McCarty, Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year Diani Akigbogun and all-state guard Tasia Foman. Aston and the Longhorns began a steady incline during the season with five wins over ranked opponents, a third-place finish in the Big 12 standings, a 10-win improvement from the previous season, and winning a game in the NCAA Championship for the first time since UT s tie for third-place in the Big 12 was the highest league finish since As with any Karen Aston-coached team, defense and rebounding were essential factors of success in Texas led the Big 12 in field goal percentage defense (.347) and rebounding margin (+11.1), while enjoying improved success long-range shooting. After finishing last in the league in 3-point field goal percentage in (.278), UT paced the Big 12 with a.365 mark in Three Longhorns earned All-Big 12 honors in , led by first team Nneka Enemkpali (First Team), Imani McGee-Stafford (Second Team) and Chassidy Fussell (Honorable Mention). In addition to on-court success, Aston s team reached high academic marks with a 3.32 cumlative team GPA for the academic year, completing ten consecutive semesters with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Each of her student-athletes currently holds a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better, and six were named to the Big 12 All-Academic Team in 2014, leading the conference with five first-team nominees. In Aston s debut as the Longhorns head coach on Nov. 9, 2012, she guided UT to a season-opening win over No. 14 St. John s, Her first recruiting class at UT featured three starters and the 2013 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Imani McGee-Stafford. She returned to the Forty Acres in 2012 after five years of experience reviving the women s basketball programs at Charlotte and the University of North Texas. Aston tripled the Mean Green s victory total in one season, as UNT went during the season under her direction after winning just five games the previous year. At Charlotte, Aston led the program to record-breaking heights, with 86 victories in four seasons, including a school-record 27 wins in Aston led the 49ers to four-straight postseason appearances and the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship en route to the school s second ever NCAA Tournament appearance. In her final season at Charlotte, Aston s squad advanced to the WNIT Final Four. While on Conradt s Texas staff from , Aston saw the Longhorns post a (.676) record during that span, with seven NCAA Tournament appearances, two trips to the Sweet 16 and a march to the 2003 Final Four. The Longhorns also captured the 2003 Big 12 regular season and tournament titles, and UT shared the 2004 Big 12 regular season title. Aston was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach in July of 2000 after serving as UT s assistant coach for two seasons. Aston spearheaded UT s signing of 25 nationallyrecognized recruits, including seven McDonald s High School All-Americans and seven WBCA/Nike All- Americans. Two of those high school All-Americans - Tiffany Jackson and Erika Arriaran - were named National High School Players of the Year. All eight of the recruiting classes Aston attracted were nationally ranked, including the No. 1 class in the nation in Aston originally came to Austin from the University of North Texas, where she served as an assistant coach for two seasons ( ). Prior to joining the North Texas staff, Aston was an assistant coach at Baylor for two seasons ( ). Following Aston s stint on the Forty Acres, she was named associate head coach at Baylor during the season. With Aston on board, the Lady Bears won 26 games and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Aston was recognized as one of the top high school women s coaches in the south. She coached five years at Vilonia High School ( ) in Vilonia, Ark., and one year at Fort Smith Northside ( ) in Fort Smith, Ark. She guided Fort Smith Northside to a record and a fifthplace finish in Class 4A. For her efforts, she was named the Arkansas Northwest Region Coach of the Year. While at Vilonia, Aston was not only the head basketball coach but also the head cross country and track coach. In , she was named the Arkansas Basketball Coach of the Year after leading Vilonia to a 36-1 record and a Class 2A State Championship. Aston s cross country teams also claimed back-to-back state titles in 1991 and A native of Benton, Ark., Aston was a two-time first-team all-state selection at Bryant High School. She capped her high school career by leading Bryant to the 1982 Arkansas Class 4A State Championship.
