The Longhorns, competing in the Reef Division, meet No. 12/11 Texas A&M for the 84th time (Friday, 5 p.m. CT) while facing Syracuse (Thursday, 7 p.m. CT) and Memphis (Saturday, 5 p.m. CT) for the first time. The Longhorns hold an all-time record of 4-1 in two previous appearances in the Paradise Jam. UT won the St. Thomas Division in 2001 with a 2-0 record and finished second in the Reef Division in 2009 with a 2-1 record. Texas (3-1) is coming off a loss against No. 6/5 Stanford on Saturday in Austin. The Longhorns held the Cardinal to 32.3 percent shooting and led at halftime, but UT shot just 17.2 percent in the second half to suffer its first loss of the season. Through four games this season, Texas has one of the best defenses in the nation. Among NCAA Division I teams, the Longhorns rank third in FG shooting defense (.278), 11th in scoring defense (49.8 ppg) and 10th in rebounding margin (+15.0). Senior guard Chassidy Fussell was named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List on Monday. Fussell has led UT in scoring for three straight seasons and enters the week with 1,458 career points (15.5 ppg). The Troy, Tenn., native has scored 20 or more points in 31 of 93 career games played. In February, the list narrows to the top 30 and in March four finalists will be named to the final ballot. Junior forward Nneka Enemkpai leads the Big 12 Conference in rebounding (10.5 rpg) and leads Texas in scoring (14.0 ppg) this season. Sophomore center Imani McGee-Stafford posted her second double-double of the season with 12 points and 14 rebounds against Stanford on Saturday. Fussell on Naismith Trophy watch list Senior guard Chassidy Fussell has been named to the Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, which recognizes 50 of the best players in the nation as a primer for the postseason award. Fussell is the fifth player in Texas history to lead the team in scoring for three straight seasons after pacing UT in points as a freshman, sophomore and junior. Fussell enters this week with 1,458 career points (15.5 ppg). The Troy, Tenn., native has 31 games with 20 or more points in 93 career games played. Named in honor of Dr. James Naismith, founder of the game of basketball, the Naismith Trophy is awarded annually to the women s and men s college basketball players of the year. In November of each year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club board of selectors, comprised of coaches, administrators and media from across the country, chooses the preseason top 50 watch list. In February, the Naismith voting academy narrows the list to the top 30 based on athletic performance. In March, the voting academy selects the four finalists who will go to the final ballot. The winner is selected by a board of selectors vote in conjunction with fan voting. Fan voting accounts for 25 percent of the final vote. Clarissa Davis ( ) brought home the Naismith Trophy twice for the Longhorns in 1987 and 1989.

3 INJURY REPORT Due to injury, freshman Nekia Jones (right foot) will be sidelined during this week s Paradise Jam. Freshman Brianna Taylor (right ankle) has been medially cleared to play after missing the first four games of the season. 200th GAME FOR ASTON Friday s game against Texas A&M will mark Karen Aston s 200th career game as a collegiate head coach. Aston enters the week with a (.586) career record in her seventh season as a head coach. Aston is in her second season leading the Texas program. Prior to arriving on the Forty Acres, Aston coached four seasons at Charlotte ( ) and one season at North Texas ( ). IN THE POLLS Texas has received votes in the first four Associated Press top 25 polls of the season. Big 12 coaches picked Texas fifth in the conference preseason poll. STOUT DEFENSE Through four games this season, Texas has one of the best defenses in the nation. Among NCAA Division I teams, the Longhorns rank third in FG shooting defense (.278), 11th in scoring defense (49.8 ppg) and 10th in rebounding margin (+15.0). Texas leads its opponents 32.0-to-13.0 in average points in the paint, including a 16-to-6 out-scoring of Stanford in the paint on Saturday. Texas has four double-digit rebound performances in the first four games. Imani McGee-Stafford recorded 12 rebounds in the season-opener against UTSA (11/10), and 14 against Stanford (11/23). HENDERSON Taking POINT Junior guard Krystle Henderson has started the first four games of the season at the point guard position. Henderson is averaging 4.5 assists per game with an assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.3 (18 assists / eight turnovers). Before transferring to Texas, Henderson spent two seasons at Wichita State ( ), including one redshirt season due to injury, and one season at Trinity Valley Community College ( ). She led TVCC to the NJCAA Division I national title last season. McGee-Stafford s post presence Sophomore center Imani McGee-Stafford leads the Big 12 in blocked shots with 3.0 blocks per game (12 total) through four games this season. Last season, McGee-Stafford set a Texas record for blocks in a season by a freshman (75). RODRIGO S CAREER NIGHT Sophomore guard Celina Rodigo had a career night against Texas State (11/13), finishing with a careerhigh 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 3FG) in just 22 minutes. Rodrigo had just two double-digit scoring efforts prior to the Texas State game. Last season Rodrigo started 23 games at point guard, leading the team in assists (111 / 3.7 apg). CAREER FIRSTS Junior Krystle Henderson started at point guard in her first game as a Longhorn against UTSA (11/10), recording seven points, one assist and no turnovers in 31 minutes. Freshman Kelsey Lang played 13 minutes in her first collegiate game against UTSA (11/10), scoring three points with two rebounds and two blocks. Freshman Lilly Vander Zee played in her first collegiate game and scored her first points against Texas State (11/13). Vander Zee finished with two points (2-2 FT) in four minutes. Senior walk-on Helen Tau scored the first points of her career against Texas State (11/13), finishing with one point (1-2 FT). Tau made her debut against UTSA (11/10), recording a rebound in less than a minute played. Imani McGee-Stafford came off the bench to post 16 points and 12 rebounds in 22 minutes against UTSA (11/10) in the season opener. Against Stanford (11/23), McGee-Stafford posted 12 points and 14 rebounds in 30 minutes. Nneka Enemkpali recorded 22 points and 17 rebounds in just 25 minutes against Texas State (11/13). 40TH SEASON OF WOMEN S BASKETBALL The University of Texas is in its 40th season of intercollegiate Women s Basketball during the season. Texas held an all-time record of (.731) in its previous 39 years of competition. UT has had just four head coaches over a 40-year span -- Rod Page ( ), Jody Conradt ( ), Gail Goestenkors ( ) and Karen Aston (2012-present). In the 31 years Texas Women s Basketball has been a member of the NCAA, Texas has made 26 NCAA tournament appearances and three Final Fours with one NCAA title (1986). The Longhorns have won 12 conference regular season titles and 10 conference tournament titles. Entering the season, Texas is the seventhwinningest program in NCAA Women s Basketball history with its (.731) record in 39 seasons. Since joining the NCAA in 1977, Texas has an (.732) record. TAU ADDED AS A WALK-ON Senior walk-on Helen Tau was added to the roster on Oct. 30, Tau served as a manager for UT during the season. The Lake Jackson, Texas native was a four-year letterwinner at Brazoswood High School and former president of Students for Texas Athletics at UT. Ariel Atkins G 5-11 Duncanville, Texas Tasia Foman G 5-4 Duncanville, Texas Brooke McCarty G 5-4 League City, Texas Pronunciation Diani Akigbogun - dee-ahh-nee aa-key-bow-guhn Tasia Foman - TAY-sha (like Asia) Karen Aston announced the signing of four high school seniors to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Aston s second recruiting class at Texas is receiving unanimous high regard among recruiting services, including a No. 10 ranking by ESPN.com. The four future Longhorns in the class of 2014 combine for three high school state championships and a.891 winning percentage ( record). Atkins, Foman and McCarty teamed up to win Nike Nationals -- the AAU s premier national tournament -- for the Cy-Fair Shock. 4 Akigbogun, a 6-1 forward from Regis Jesuit High School, was named the Gatorade Colorado Player of the Year after leading Regis Jesuit to the CHSAA 5A state championship title and garnering unanimous first-team all-state honors. Akigbogun recorded 13 double-doubles and averaged 14.2 points and 8.1 rebounds per game as a junior. She guided her high school team, coached by Carl Mattei, to a record in three seasons as a letterwinner. Both Atkins and Foman are coached by former Longhorn Cathy Self-Morgan at Duncanville High School. In the last three seasons the duo has accounted for 113 wins (113-9,.926) and two state championships at Duncanville, including an undefeated 40-0 record last season. Atkins is the No. 4 overall recruit and the top-ranked guard in the class of 2014 according to ESPN.com. After winning her second state title with Duncanville as a junior, Atkins was tabbed as the unanimous high school player of the year in Texas by Gatorade, the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) and the Dallas Morning News. Atkins averaged 16.8 points, 5.5 steals, 6.1 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 55.4 percent from the field and 49.2 percent from behind the arc as a junior. Foman is ranked as the No. 24 guard in the country according to ESPN.com. The 5-foot-6 guard is a twotime UIL District 7-5A Defensive Player of the Year and was named TABC Class 5A All-State for the season. While leading Duncanville to a 40-0 record and a state title during her junior season, she averaged 11.2 points, 4.2 steals and 3.9 assists per game. McCarty, a 5-foot-4 point guard for Clear Springs High School, is the No. 29 overall recruit and the sixth-ranked guard in the class of 2014 according to ESPN.com. She is a three-time TABC 5A All- State honoree and a three-time District 24-5A Most Valuable Player. Coached by Pam Crawford at Clear Springs, McCarty has led her high school to a record in three seasons as a starter and its firstever appearance in the UIL state tournament in McCarty s career high school averages include 19.6 points, 4.3 assists and 4.1 steals per game. ENEMKPALI, MCGEE-STAFFORD EARN PRESEASON ALL-BIG 12 HONORS The Big 12 coaches selected of sophomore Imani McGee-Stafford to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team and junior Nneka Enemkpali as Honorable Mention Preseason All-Big 12. Last season, McGee-Stafford was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year and All-Big 12 Honorable Mention after setting a Texas record for blocks by a freshman (75) and leading the team in total rebounds (281) and field goal shooting percentage (.483, FG). The Los Angeles product registered 13 double-doubles while averaging 11.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game. Enemkpali was named All-Big 12 Honorable mention after the season, in which she recorded 13 doubles-doubles and set a Texas record for most consecutive double-doubles (six) in the first six games of the season. In year-one as head of the Texas program, Aston laid the foundation for the Longhorns return to national prominence. Her first recruiting class at UT featured three starters and the 2013 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Imani McGee-Stafford. Aston, an eight-year assistant to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt, was instrumental in the Longhorns trip to the 2003 NCAA Women s Basketball Final Four and a pair of Sweet 16 appearances in 2002 and She returned to the Forty Acres in 2012 after five years of experience reviving the women s basketball programs at Charlotte and the University of North Texas. Aston tripled the Mean Green s victory total in one season, as UNT went during the season under her direction after winning just five games the previous year. At Charlotte, Aston led the program to record-breaking heights, with 86 victories in four seasons, including a school-record 27 wins in Aston led the 49ers to four-straight postseason appearances and the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship en route to the school s second ever NCAA Tournament appearance. In her final season at Charlotte, Aston s squad advanced to the WNIT Final Four. While on Conradt s Texas staff from , Aston saw the Longhorns post a (.676) record during that span, with seven NCAA Tournament appearances, two trips to the Sweet 16 and a march to the 2003 Final Four. The Longhorns also captured the 2003 Big 12 regular season and tournament titles, and UT shared the 2004 Big 12 regular season title. Aston was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach in July of 2000 after serving as UT s assistant coach for two seasons. Aston spearheaded UT s signing of 25 nationallyrecognized recruits, including seven McDonald s High School All-Americans and seven WBCA/Nike All- Americans. Two of those high school All-Americans - Tiffany Jackson and Erika Arriaran - were named National High School Players of the Year. All eight of the recruiting classes Aston attracted were nationally ranked, including the No. 1 class in the nation in Aston originally came to Austin from the University of North Texas, where she served as an assistant coach for two seasons ( ). Prior to joining the North Texas staff, Aston was an assistant coach at Baylor for two seasons ( ). Following Aston s stint on the Forty Acres, she was named associate head coach at Baylor during the season. With Aston on board, the Lady Bears won 26 games and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Aston was recognized as one of the top high school women s coaches in the south. She coached five years at Vilonia High School ( ) in Vilonia, Ark., and one year at Fort Smith Northside ( ) in Fort Smith, Ark. She guided Fort Smith Northside to a record and a fifthplace finish in Class 4A. For her efforts, she was named the Arkansas Northwest Region Coach of the Year. While at Vilonia, Aston was not only the head basketball coach but also the head cross country and track coach. In , she was named the Arkansas Basketball Coach of the Year after leading Vilonia to a 36-1 record and a Class 2A State Championship. Aston s cross country teams also claimed back-to-back state titles in 1991 and A native of Benton, Ark., Aston was a two-time first-team all-state selection at Bryant High School.
