UT and Idaho are meeting for the second time in program history and the first time in 27 years. The Longhorns won an road game in Moscow, Idaho on Dec. 1, LONGHORNS AT HOME Texas is 5-1 at home this season. UT holds an all-time home record of (.835). BASKETBALL AT THE ALAMO BOWL Texas Football faces Oregon in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Dec. 30 in San Antonio, Texas. The Texas Women s Basketball program is connected to the game in more ways than Burnt Orange. Oregon s Bralon Addison (Soph., WR) is the great-nephew of the Texas Women s Basketball career rebound leader, Retha Swindell ( ). Retha Swindell s brother (Bernard Swindell) is the grandfather of Bralon Addison. Swindell totaled 1,759 rebounds (11.7 rpg) in four seasons at Texas from Addison is Oregon s second-leading receiver this season with 56 receptions for 842 yards and seven touchdowns. He is from Missouri City, Texas and played at Fort Bend Hightower High School. LAST TIME OUT: NORTHWESTERN STATE Texas notched a victory over Northwestern State on Dec. 20, 2013 in Austin. The game marked the second meeting in program history between Texas and Northwestern State. Texas also won the first meeting, , on Nov. 16, Starters: Celina Rodrigo, Empress Davenport, Brady Sanders, Nneka Enemkpali and Imani McGee- Stafford. It is the seventh different starting lineup in 11 games for the Longhorns. In the first half: Texas out-rebounded Northwestern State, 26-to-5. Northwestern State s five first-half rebounds is the lowest rebounding total in a half for the Lady Demons this season. Texas out-scored the Lady Demons in the paint (30-to-8) and on secondchance points (22-to-0), as well as recorded a plus-3 assist-to-turnover ratio (10-7). Texas out-scored Northwestern State 50-to-14 in the paint. The Longhorns have out-scored opponents in the paint this season by an average of 20.7 points per contest. The Longhorns capitalized on 19 Northwestern State turnovers to out-score the Lady Demons 29- to-17 off turnovers. Texas also scored 30 secondchance points to Northwestern State s five, and the Longhorn s bench doubled the Lady Demons bench output, 50-to-25. Texas point field goal percentage is the second-highest 3-point shooting percentage this season. Texas shot 57.1 percent against Syracuse on Nov. 28, As a team, Texas recorded a positive assist-toturnover ratio (25-14) for the second consecutive game and dished out the third most assists this season. Nneka Enemkpali recorded her eighth doublefigure scoring effort this season and her fourth consecutive with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting with a game-high seven rebounds in 28 minutes. Nekia Jones scored a season-high 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting from 3-point range in just 11 minutes. Celina Rodrigo dished out a team-high five assists and had only one turnover in 17 minutes of play. Imani McGee-Stafford scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in 13 minutes of play. Her 10-point scoring effort was her fifth double-figure scoring effort this season and the 22nd of her career. Empress Davenport dished out a season-high four assists in 20 minutes of play. 3 STARTING LINEUPS, DEEP BENCH In 11 games, Texas has used seven different starting lineups. Junior forward Nneka Enemkpali is the only Longhorn to start in all 11 games this season. All 14 players are averaging less than 25 minutes per game. Last season five players finished the season with a minutes-per-game average above 25. No Texas player has played in a game for 35 minutes or more this season. POINT GUARDS ON POSITIVE TREND Point guards Celina Rodrigo and Krystle Henderson have shared starting roles and playing time this season. In the last four games, the duo combines for a 35- to-10 (3.5) assist/turnover ratio. In the first seven games, the duo combined for a 38-to-30 (1.3) ratio. Henderson (24.6 mpg, 3.5 apg) has started nine games, but Rodrigo (17.1 mpg, 3.1 apg) has started the last two games. LONG RANGE ACCURACY Texas leads the Big 12 and ranks ninth nationally in 3-point field goal percentage (.401, ). Last season, Texas finished last in the Big 12 in 3-point field goal percentage (.278, ). The Longhorns have made at least four 3-pointers in 10 of 11 games this season. ALL ABOUT DEFENSE Through Dec. 22, the Longhorns rank fourth in the nation in field goal percentage defense (.316), seventh in scoring defense (52.6 ppg) and sixth in rebounding margin (+14.7). In the Big 12 (through Dec. 22), the Longhorns rank third in field goal percentage defense, second in scoring defense and second in rebounding margin (+13.2 rpg). UT has held eight of its 11 opponents to under 40 percent shooting, including five under 31 percent shooting. Texas 31.6 field goal percentage defense is lower than the program record for lowest field goal percentage defense in a season percent ( FG) set during the season WOMEN S BASKETBALL FIRST-HALF DOMINANCE In the first half, Texas is out-scoring its opponents by an average margin of 12.9 points (34.0-to-21.1). The Longhorns have led at halftime in all but two games. UT s 44.0 field goal percentage is a 3.1 percent improvement from last season. Texas defense is holding opponents to 30.4 percent shooting, a 4.0 percent improvement from last season. The Longhorns are also using a deeper bench this season. Nine players have played in all 10 games and no player is averaging more than 25.5 minutes per game. Last season, just four players played in all of the first 10 games while four players were averaging over 25.5 minutes per game. Her 17 rebounds against Texas State (11/13) is the second-most rebounds by a Big 12 player in a game this season. With 11 rebounds at Tennessee (12/8), Enemkpali passed 500 career rebounds. She enters Friday with a team-high 516 career rebounds. Enemkpali is two blocks away from 50 career blocks. Scored 12 points with 11 rebounds in 25 minutes at No. 3/3 Tennessee (12/8). Notched 20 points (7-8 FG) with 11 rebounds in a win over No. 12/11 Texas A&M (11/29). Recorded 22 points and a conference-high 17 rebounds in 25 minutes against Texas State (11/13). Scored 19 points (9-12 FG) in 30 minutes at New Mexico (11/19). NEKIA JONES MAKING A NAME FOR HERSELF Freshman forward Nekia Jones scored 15 points on 4-of-6 shooting in just 11 minutes against Northwestern State (12/20). When Jones is on the floor this season (17 minutes), Texas is out-scoring its opponent, Jones made her collegiate debut against Sam Houston State (12/15) after recovering from a foot injury. In her debut against the Bearkats, Jones scored two points with two rebounds and one assist in six minutes. Jones missed the first eight games the season. LANG AS A STARTER / OFF THE BENCH Freshman center Kelsey Lang has started five of the last five games for the Longhorns, averaging 10.2 points on 58.1 percent shooting as a starter. Lang s first career start was against Texas A&M (11/29) in the Paradise Jam. Lang averaged 10.0 points on 60.9 percent shooting in three games at the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam (Nov ). Sanders was named to the Paradise Jam All- Tournament team after averaging 11.3 points per game and leading Texas to a second-place finish in the Reef Division, including a win over No. 12/11 Texas A&M. Sanders shot 9-of-16 from 3-point range (.563) over three games in the Virgin Islands. The Godley, Texas native entered the season shooting 14.0 percent (7-50 3FG) from beyond the arc. This season, her 48.0 percent ( FG) 3-point accuracy leads the team (minimum 10 attempts). In her debut against the Orange, Taylor scored two points (2-2 FT) in the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam. She made her first career field goal against Texas A&M (11/29), totaling four points on 2-of-3 shooting in 11 minutes. Taylor missed the first four games of the season due to injury. With 12 points at Tennessee (12/8), the senior guard passed 1,500 career points. Fussell enters Friday with 110 points this season (10.0 ppg) and 1,515 career points (15.2 ppg). Atkins, Foman and McCarty teamed up to win Nike Nationals -- the AAU s premier national tournament -- for the Cy-Fair Shock. 40TH SEASON OF WOMEN S BASKETBALL The University of Texas is in its 40th season of intercollegiate Women s Basketball during the season. Texas held an all-time record of (.731) in its previous 39 years of competition. UT has had just four head coaches over a 40-year span -- Rod Page ( ), Jody Conradt ( ), Gail Goestenkors ( ) and Karen Aston (2012-present). In the 31 years Texas Women s Basketball has been a member of the NCAA, Texas has made 26 NCAA tournament appearances and three Final Fours with one NCAA title (1986). The Longhorns have won 12 conference regular season titles and 10 conference tournament titles. SANDERS PRESENTED WITH JUDY DUNN AWARD The Judy Dunn Award was presented to sophomore Brady Sanders on Dec. 4, before the game against UALR. The Judy Dunn Award recognizes an outstanding Texas Women s Basketball player who aspires to teach, coach or make a difference in youth sports. Sanders is a Public Relations major in the College of Communications at The University of Texas. Dunn s life work was teaching high school English and advancing the sport of Women s Basketball in the state of Texas. As a high school coach Judy recorded 500 wins and numerous championships with her girls basketball teams, the most with Colony High School from The Judy Dunn award was created by Judy s brother Stephen Dunn, sister Denise Dunn and friends Weezie Bailey and Jackie Baggett -- both of whom presented the award to Sanders on Wednesday. 6

In year-one as head of the Texas program, Aston laid the foundation for the Longhorns return to national prominence. Her first recruiting class at UT featured three starters and the 2013 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Imani McGee-Stafford. Aston, an eight-year assistant to Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt, was instrumental in the Longhorns trip to the 2003 NCAA Women s Basketball Final Four and a pair of Sweet 16 appearances in 2002 and She returned to the Forty Acres in 2012 after five years of experience reviving the women s basketball programs at Charlotte and the University of North Texas. Aston tripled the Mean Green s victory total in one season, as UNT went during the season under her direction after winning just five games the previous year. At Charlotte, Aston led the program to record-breaking heights, with 86 victories in four seasons, including a school-record 27 wins in Aston led the 49ers to four-straight postseason appearances and the 2009 Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship en route to the school s second ever NCAA Tournament appearance. In her final season at Charlotte, Aston s squad advanced to the WNIT Final Four. While on Conradt s Texas staff from , Aston saw the Longhorns post a (.676) record during that span, with seven NCAA Tournament appearances, two trips to the Sweet 16 and a march to the 2003 Final Four. The Longhorns also captured the 2003 Big 12 regular season and tournament titles, and UT shared the 2004 Big 12 regular season title. Aston was promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach in July of 2000 after serving as UT s assistant coach for two seasons. Aston spearheaded UT s signing of 25 nationallyrecognized recruits, including seven McDonald s High School All-Americans and seven WBCA/ Nike All-Americans. Two of those high school All- Americans - Tiffany Jackson and Erika Arriaran - were named National High School Players of the Year. All eight of the recruiting classes Aston attracted were nationally ranked, including the No. 1 class in the nation in Aston originally came to Austin from the University of North Texas, where she served as an assistant coach for two seasons ( ). Prior to joining the North Texas staff, Aston was an assistant coach at Baylor for two seasons ( ). Following Aston s stint on the Forty Acres, she was named associate head coach at Baylor during the season. With Aston on board, the Lady Bears won 26 games and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Before entering the collegiate coaching ranks, Aston was recognized as one of the top high school women s coaches in the south. She coached five years at Vilonia High School ( ) in Vilonia, Ark., and one year at Fort Smith Northside ( ) in Fort Smith, Ark. She guided Fort Smith Northside to a record and a fifth-place finish in Class 4A. For her efforts, she was named the Arkansas Northwest Region Coach of the Year. While at Vilonia, Aston was not only the head basketball coach but also the head cross country and track coach. In , she was named the Arkansas Basketball Coach of the Year after leading Vilonia to a 36-1 record and a Class 2A State Championship. Aston s cross country teams also claimed back-to-back state titles in 1991 and A native of Benton, Ark., Aston was a two-time firstteam all-state selection at Bryant High School. She capped her high school career by leading Bryant to the 1982 Arkansas Class 4A State Championship.
