2 KANSAS BASKETBALL Fresh off a record-setting year, the Kansas Jayhawks look forward to another exciting basketball season. Kansas men s basketball team etched its name into KU s rich tradition by capturing the 2008 NCAA Division I National Championship, The Jayhawk men s basketball team capped off the season with an NCAA title. and the women s basketball squad finished with a mark, capping the season with a trip to the third round of the WNIT. On April 7, 2008, in one of the most memorable NCAA Championship games ever, the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Memphis Tigers, 75-68, in overtime, the Jayhawks fifth national title and first since The Jayhawks won their last 13 games to finish 37-3, winning their fourth consecutive Big 12 regular-season title and third straight Big 12 postseason tournament championship along the way. As head coach Bill Self enters his sixth season at Kansas, he and his staff welcome a number of newcomers to the men s basketball team. You the fan may see some differences in the men s team from this year to last, but what won t change is the winning. Bonnie Henrickson has also found success as she enters her fifth season as women s basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Henrickson and her staff have transformed the Jayhawks, last year beating Evansville in the second round of the WNIT before narrowly losing to runner-up Michigan State in the third round. This year s team faces a daunting schedule that includes 17 games against teams that reached last year s NCAA tournament or the WNIT. 3 JAYHAWK NOTES 2 MEN S BASKETBALL INSIDE THE NUMBERS MEN Kansas has won three NCAA championships (1952, 88, 2008) Category Return Loss %Back and two other national titles Minutes , , , ( ). Points , , Kansas won a school-record 37 Field Goals.... 1, games in Pointers KU has won 30 or more games in Free Throws a season eight times, including Rebounds , , Assists four times since Blocks Kansas ranks third all-time in NCAA Steals Division I victories, with a 1, record. Only Kentucky and North Carolina have more wins. Kansas will be entering its 111th season of college basketball in The Jayhawks 37 NCAA tournament appearances are fourth nationally behind only Kentucky (48), UCLA (40) and North Carolina (40). The Jayhawks have appeared in the Final Four 13 times, making KU one of just five schools to reach the Final Four 10-plus times. KU is one of 14 schools that have won at least two NCAA championships. Oklahoma State (1945 and 1946) is the only other Big 12 school to win the title. Five different Jayhawks have been named NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, including B.H. Born in 1953 and Wilt Chamberlain in 1957, who won the award even though KU lost in the finals. Clyde Lovellette (1952), Danny Manning (1988) and Mario Chalmers (2008) also won the honor. Former coach Larry Brown is the only man to coach teams to the NCAA championship (Kansas in 1988) and the NBA championship (Detroit in 2004). Kansas has been the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament eight times since the event started seeding in , 1992, 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2007 and This year Kansas became only the fourth school to win a BCS game then play in the Final Four that same academic year. Last year KU s football team won the FedEx Orange Bowl. Other schools to accomplish that feat include Ohio State (1999), Wisconsin (2000) and Florida (2007). Kansas finished 20-0 at home in to mark its 14th all-time undefeated home season and first since (13-0). Kansas has sold out its last 111 games in Allen Fieldhouse dating back to the second game of the season.

4 JAYHAWK NOTES WOMEN S BASKETBALL Kansas women s basketball boasts INSIDE THE NUMBERS WOMEN three State Farm (formerly Kodak) Category Return Loss %Back All-Americans in Lynette Woodard, Angela Aycock and Tameka Dixon. The Jayhawks have made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances in program history, including Sweet 16 appearances in 1996 and Minutes , , Points , , Field Goals Pointers Free Throws Rebounds , Assists KU has appeared in the Postseason Blocks WNIT on three occasions, including an appearance in 2008 when Steals the Jayhawks defeated Evansville before falling at Michigan State in the third round. Seven Kansas players have gone on to play in the WNBA, including active players Tameka Dixon (Houston Comets) and Nakia Sanford (Washington Mystics). In addition, current KU assistant coach Tamika Raymond is an active player in the WNBA, competing for the Connecticut Sun. Kansas has claimed seven conference titles, including the final Big 8 title in 1996 and the inaugural Big 12 title in The Jayhawks have clinched the conference tournament title six times. Nineteen players in Kansas history have recorded 1,000 points or more in their career. KU junior guard-forward Danielle McCray is on pace to join that elite club, as she enters her third season in a Kansas uniform with 762 career points. Rising sophomore center Krysten Boogaard became Kansas first player to appear in the Big 12 All-Rookie team in

7 ALLEN FIELDHOUSE 12 Named in honor of the late Dr. F.C. Phog Allen, the Jayhawks head coach for 39 years, Allen Fieldhouse is labeled by many as one of the best places in America to watch a college basketball game. The Fieldhouse was dedicated on March 1, 1955, as the Jayhawks defeated Kansas State, 77-66, before an overflow throng of 17,228. Jayhawk fans have been piling into the Fieldhouse ever since. We have basked in the sunlight of last year s NCAA Championship, and now it s time to look forward to a new season with new teams and new excitement, but with the same goals in mind a Big 12 Championship and the NCAA Tournament. By now you know that construction has begun on some awesome renovations to Kansas Athletics facilities, including Allen Fieldhouse. By the time it s all done late in 2009 we will have reinvigorated all of our athletics programs. We ll have a beautiful new basketball practice facility; enhanced concourses, wide enough to provide easy access during basketball games and other events; new locker rooms and clubhouses for our men s and women s basketball teams; new concession areas that will enhance the fan experience; renovated restrooms for fans; new offices and locker rooms for many of our men s and women s Olympic sports. We will also have expanded our student-athlete academic-services area, which is critical to our mission of Unparalleled Excellence. You will notice that during this season normal walking and traffic patterns will be disturbed while construction continues. We ask your patience during this season; it will certainly help to keep in mind that when it s all completed, it will signify the start of an exciting new era in Kansas Athletics. 9 ALLEN FIELDHOUSE POLICIES PROHIBITED ITEMS For the protection of our fans, the following items are not permitted in Allen Fieldhouse and cannot be stored by Kansas Athletics personnel: Containers, bottles, cans, liquid containers and coolers (except for guests with special medical or dietary needs). Backpacks, duffle bags (small purses, diaper bags accompanied with infant will be allowed) Food, video cameras Umbrellas, strollers, bikes All weapons of any type, including concealed firearms and fireworks Poles/sticks of any kind Objects that obstruct another patron s view of the playing surface Horns, whistles, boomboxes and/or other noisemakers Animals (except assistive animals for guests with disabilities) Anything that creates a nuisance or disruption Patrons are subject to visual inspection of person, parcels, bags, and clothing capable of concealing prohibited items. Patrons may refuse inspections but management reserves the right to refuse entry. The University prohibits students, employees, and visitors from possessing, carrying or using weapons on property owned by or under the control of the University. The State of Kansas also prohibits the carrying of concealed weapons on University property. Violators will be asked to leave University property, and if they refuse to do so, such refusal may constitute an unlawful trespass. SMOKING POLICY Smoking is strictly prohibited in Allen Fieldhouse. HALFTIME EXIT AND RE-ENTRY POLICY Exit and re-entry will only be allowed at halftime. Please see a ticket taker to receive a pass for this purpose. Both the pass and the game ticket stub are required for re-entry. 16

10 ALLEN FIELDHOUSE POLICIES 18 SPORTSMANSHIP Kansas fans pride themselves on a long tradition of good sportsmanship and conduct in Allen Fieldhouse. We appreciate and expect your cooperation by supporting the players, coaches and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments or other intimidating actions will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the building. Any spectator who interferes with the game by coming onto the court, or throws objects onto the court, will be removed. BANNERS Banners should be no more than three feet high and not obstruct the view of fans or Allen Fieldhouse signage. Signs, banners and flags that contain obscene language or speech are prohibited. Such signs may be removed and/or the possessors of such signs may be removed from the competition site. Kansas Athletics has the right to remove any banner at any time for any reason. Kansas Athletics expects and encourages spectators to bring signs that promote good sportsmanship and respect the rights and dignity of others.

14 PARKING INFORMATION PARKING/HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE PARKING Most parking lots in the vicinity of Allen Fieldhouse require a parking permit. These are obtainable only through membership in the Williams Educational Fund. You can reach the Williams Educational Fund by phone at (785) Very limited public parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in Lot 90, east of Allen Fieldhouse. Please follow City and University parking regulations when parking on streets in the area. Handicap accessible parking is available for a $20 fee on a first-come, first-served basis in lots 54 (north of Allen Fieldhouse), 70 (south of Allen Fieldhouse), 72 (northwest of Allen Fieldhouse), and the parking garage (north of Allen Fieldhouse). Display your state issued accessible license plate or hangtag and have your personal identification card with you. Should these spaces be filled, additional handicap parking spaces are available in the Park and Ride lot located off of Clinton Parkway and Crestline (South of the Shenk Recreational Sports Complex). A handicap accessible bus will be available for the ride to Allen Fieldhouse. SHUTTLE BUS PARKING Beginning two hours prior to tip-off, KU Parking & Transit will make available a shuttle service pick-up at the Park and Ride lot located off of Clinton Parkway and Crestline (south of the Shenk Recreational Sports Complex). Return trips will end 30 minutes following the game. Shuttle service for fans who use wheelchairs will be provided in the same manner as above. Limited-mobility fans will be allowed to unload and load near the south entrance to Allen Fieldhouse. 24

CONCESSIONS General concessions will be available in all areas when the gates open. Concessions are located throughout the first, second and third levels of Allen Fieldhouse. ELEVATOR An elevator is available for access to all three levels. The elevator tower is located at the south end of the building. There is a second elevator located in the Booth Hall of Athletics (east entrance to Allen Fieldhouse). The Booth Hall of Athletics elevator is available for access to the first and second levels only. FAN INFORMATION Located in 117 Allen Fieldhouse (first floor, east hall, south end). Lost and found is located in the Fan Information Center. If you discover a missing item after you leave the building you may call (785) during normal business hours Monday through Friday 8 a.m. 5 p.m.

The student entrance is located on the northeast side of Allen Fieldhouse. All student ticket holders must enter at this location. General public gates will open one and a half hours before tip-off. Everyone must have a ticket to enter regardless of age. LOST CHILDREN Every child should be told to contact the nearest event staff personnel (red vest/shirt) should he/she become lost. Lost children will be taken to Fan Information, located in 117 Allen Fieldhouse (first floor, east hall, south end). Parents looking for a lost child should go to Fan Information. The University of Kansas is home of the Jayhawk, a mythical bird with a fascinating history. Its origin is rooted in the historic struggles of Kansas settlers. The term Jayhawk was probably coined about 1848, and accounts of its use appeared from Illinois to Texas. The name combines two birds the blue jay, a noisy, quarrelsome thing known to rob other nests, and the sparrow hawk, a stealthy hunter. The message here: Don t turn your back on this bird.
