1 Game #32 vs. Wright State (25-7, 12-4 HL) March 15, :05 p.m. CT Green Bay, Wis. Kress Mehryn Kraker has now reached double figures in 23 games this season after scoring 11 points against YSU. Kraker registered her fifth career double-double in Wednesday s quarterfinal game against Milwaukee. Kaili Lukan set a new career-high for free throws made with 11 and set a new career-high 27 points against YSU as well. Lukan has now tallied eight games in her career of scoring 20 or more points, five more than any other player currently on the Green Bay roster. The Phoenix has now won 10-straight games, its longest stretch at any point during the last two seasons. Green Bay is now 21-0 when its opponent scores less than 60 points. Sunday s championship game will be just the third time the Phoenix has played on a Sunday this year. Green Bay is 0-2 on that day, falling to UConn and Dayton in those games. IN THE FINALS This will be Green Bay s 17th all-time in the tournament championship game, going 12-4 in those games. The Phoenix in last year s title game against Wright State, its first loss in the title game since The Phoenix has now made five-straight appearances in the championship game and has made more appearances total than any other team in the league. LUKAN LIFT OFF, AGAIN Kaili Lukan has now scored 51 points in her last two games, which is more than she had scored in her previous six games combined. Lukan set a new career-high with 27 points in the semifinal victory, two days after setting her new season-high in the quarterfinals with 24. Her average has gone from 8.2 PPG to 9.4 PPG and has come at the most critical point in the season. She has played all but two minutes in the last two games and has gone 21-for-24 at the free throw line as well, also a new career-high with free throws made in a game. Green Bay has held opponents in league play this season to an overpowering 31.7 percent shooting performance. That percentage is both a new league and program record. GB also set a new school record for single game field goal percentage defense this season when it held UIC to 14.9 percent shooting on Feb. 21. HOLDING THEM DOWN The Green Bay defense held Wright State to its two lowest point totals in conference play this season, holding them down to 59 points in the first game and 45 points in the second. WSU averaged 78.4 PPG during league play this season, but averaged only 52.0 PPG against the Phoenix. The Raiders are shooting 40.9 percent this season, but shot only 31.3 percent in its two games against Green Bay. DOUBLE DIGIT WINS The Phoenix has won 20 of its 26 games by 10 points or more following the 12-point win over Milwaukee in the quarterfinals. In home games, Green Bay has played in only three games all year that have been decided by single digits, with two of those coming in its last three games. GB defeated Detroit and loss to Oakland in those games while most recently beating YSU by nine. KB600 Head coach Kevin Borseth registered his 600th career victory with the win over Valpo on Thursday, making him just the 51st all-time coach in NCAA women s basketball history to accomplish such a feat. Borseth ranks in the top 30 in NCAA history in all-time winning percentage and among the fastest coaches to reach that milestone. He is also the all-time winningest coach in Horizon League history. BALANCE BACKLASH Because the Phoenix continues to be so balanced in its offensive attack, the team has not received one Horizon League Player of the Week or Freshman of the Week Award since the start of the conference season. Green Bay has six players averaging 7.2 PPG or more, the most balanced effort in the league. Because of the Green Bay Way and the balanced offense, the program has not been able to win weekly honors, but has gone 15-1 during that span and will take the wins over individual accolades any day. ALL-LEAGUE The Horizon League announced its postseason award winners on Monday afternoon, and Green Bay landed three players on Second-Team All-League and one on the All-Defensive Team. Tesha Buck, Mehryn Kraker and Megan Lukan each landed on the Second-Team, while Lukan also made an appearance on the All-Defensive Team. Buck and Kraker led the Phoenix in scoring this season, while Lukan led the team in assists and rebounding. It marked just the second time in the last 17 seasons that GB did not have a player on the First-Team. Green Bay (19-4, 9-1 HL) held the league s leading scorer Tay ler Mingo to a season-low 10 points, while limiting the Horizon League s highest scoring team (entered Thursday averaging 79.6 PPG) to under 50 points and its lowest total point tally of the season. The Phoenix defense, which came in as the top defense in the league after only allowing 52.8 PPG in conference play this season, forced the visiting Raiders (18-6, 7-3 HL) into a 16-for-51 (31.4 percent) shooting effort from the field. Green Bay also enjoyed a plus-15 advantage in rebounding, finishing with 49 rebounds to Wright State s 34. Tesha Buck relished one of her finest games of her young career, registering her first double-double of the season by finishing with a team-high 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. Buck also dished out six assists. Also finishing in double figures for the Phoenix was Mehryn Kraker and Sam Terry, who finished with 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Kraker and Terry both hit clutch three s late in the game, eliminating any potential for a Wright State comeback. Green Bay never trailed in the game and has now won back-to-back contests after dropping its first league game of the season. The victory also gives the Phoenix a season sweep of Wright State, giving it a virtual threegame lead in the current standings. The Phoenix has been as high as No. 1 in the rankings, and will probably move up to No. 4 because of its recent play and a loss by current No. 4 James Madison. BRACKETOLOGY In the latest edition of ESPN s Bracketology, composed by Charlie Creme, Green Bay is slotted in as a No. 8 seed in the Greensboro region against No. 9 seed DePaul. Creme has that game being played in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame who Creme has as a No. 1 seed. NOTE: This is only a projection by ESPN and Creme, which holds no bearing on the actual selection process by the NCAA. RECEIVING VOTES Green Bay is now receiving 19 votes in the latest Associated Press Top 25 Poll, released on Monday (Mar. 9). The Phoenix has appeared as high as No. 24 in the land and is currently ranked an unofficial 29th. GB is not receiving votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. KEEP IT 100 & 200 For the third-straight season, Megan Lukan has recorded at least 100 assists. The senior totaled 142 assists her sophomore year, 135 assists last year and has now recorded 137 assists this year. Joining her 100-assist total each of her last three seasons is a 200-point output in each of her four seasons as well. REMARKABLE RUN This impossible run for the Phoenix began back in , Kevin Borseth s first season as head coach of the Phoenix which means that Borseth is a perfect 12-for-12 in league championships. During this remarkable stretch, Green Bay has won the title outright 15 of the 17 times. The program has never won less than 12 league games during that span and has finished with one or fewer losses in 11 of those years. RPI UPDATE As of March 14, Green Bay ranks No. 23 in the NCAA RPI standings. Using those same standings, the Phoenix has 10 wins against teams ranked inside the RPI top 100, going 10-3 in those games. Three of the four defeats suffered by the Phoenix have come against teams ranked inside the RPI Top 50.
