Bloomington, IN LILLARD NAMED B1G DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK University freshman defender Grant Lillard was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week Monday after a week that saw him shine on both the offensive and defensive end of the field. opened last week with a 1-0 victory over then-no. 1 Notre Dame at Armstrong Stadium. Lillard helped anchor a defense that shut out the reigning National Champions for just the fourth time this season. On Sunday Lillard played a key role in the Hoosiers 3-1 win at Michigan despite missing most of the first half after a cut above his right eye forced him to leave the game. Thirty seconds after re-entering the match to start the second half, Lillard brought back from a goal down with a header off Jamie Vollmer s long throw to tie the score at 1-1. It was Lillard s third goal this season. In the 72nd minute he notched his first career assist as he helped set up a goal from Tanner Thompson that put IU up 3-1.

3 Lillard was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week. HE S A WINNER Senior left back Patrick Doody has been a surprising offensive spark for this season, tied for third on the team in goals scored with three. Doody entered this season with two goals to his credit, both coming during the 2013 season. What makes Doody s three goals this year special is that all three have been game winners. Doody s first goal was a free kick that was the difference in a 1-0 win over Dartmouth. It was his goal against UCF that was the third of the night for IU in what would be a 4-2 victory over the Knights. Against No. 1 Notre Dame Doody did something he hadn t done since his pre-teen years, sending in a corner kick that found nothing but net in the 1-0 victory. A starter in all 15 matches Doody has also played a key role in six IU shutouts this season. TOP 25? NO PROBLEM has played some of its best matches this season against top-25 competition, as evidenced by its record against ranked opponents. The Hoosiers opened the 2014 season with a 1-1 tie against No. 9 Georgetown, followed by a 1-0 win over No. 12 Marquette. IU s first loss of the season came by a 1-0 score at the hands of No. 13 Penn State. That was followed by a 3-1 win over No. 8 Saint Louis and a 3-0 win at No. 18 Louisville. Ranked win number four came on October 22 with a 1-0 victory over No. 1 Notre Dame. SHUT ER DOWN For a center back combination that had exactly zero minutes of collegiate playing time entering the 2014 season, the combination of redshirt sophomore Derek Creviston and freshman Grant Lillard have done a good job of keeping offenses at bay. Creviston has started all 15 matches this season after not playing a minute during his first two seasons at IU. Creviston has been compared by coaches to former IU standout Caleb Konstanski for his tough, composed play. Lillard came to IU has a highly-touted player out of the Chicago Fire Academy and has lived up to the billing in his 15 starts. An imposing physical presence at 6-foot-4, Lillard is strong in the air but also has good feet and stays composed on the ball in high-pressure situations. The play of Creviston and Lillard has been key to IU s six shutouts this season. ON TARGET After a slow start the IU offense hit midseason form. 20 of the Hoosiers 24 goals this year have come in the last nine games. has tallied 133 shots in the seven games, with 66 on frame. Prior to the seven matches, just 23 of 88 attempts (26.1 percent) had been on frame. Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Tanner Thompson have a team-best four goals, with three each from Patrick Doody, Jamie Vollmer and Grant Lillard. EARLY BIRDS is wasting no time scoring in matches this year as 12 of its 24 goals have come in the first half. Twice this season IU has scored with less than three minutes gone in a game, with Patrick Doody s goal vs. Dartmouth coming at 2:19, and Jamie Vollmer s score against UCF coming at 2:41. HOME SWEET HOME? Most teams would rather play their big matches at home, but for it seems to be the opposite. The Hoosiers are 6-0 in games away from Armstrong Stadium this year,

4 compared to in the confines of Jerry Yeagley Field at Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers have out-scored opponents 12-3 on the road with three of its six shutouts coming away from home. Both IU losses this season have come in Big Ten matches at home, a 1-0 loss to Penn State (Sept. 13) and a 2-1 loss to Maryland (Oct. 19). This is nothing new for as in 2012 it was away from home, while going away from Armstrong Stadium in In 2013 three of the team s eight victories that season came away from home. OFFENSIVE DEFENDERS has gotten a nice offensive lift from its back four in Left back Patrick Doody is second in assists (3), tied for third in goals scored (3) and is alone in fourth in total points (9). Freshman centerback Grant Lillard is also tied for third in goals scored with three. He got in on the scoring with his first career goal coming vs. UCF on September 24. He added his first career game winner in IU s 3-0 win at No. 18 Louisville. His third goal brought IU back even with Michigan in what would be a 3-1 victory in Ann Arbor. He also picked up his first career assist in the game. It was right back Billy McConnell that set up the score against UCF as he whipped the ball into the box, where the 6-4 Lillard headed it home. Mc- Connell picked up his second assist of the year on Matt Foldesy s score in the win over SLU. SPREADING THE WEALTH The coaching staff preached before the start of the season that goal scoring would be by committee, and that is just what has happened in The Hoosiers are tied for first in the Big Ten in goals scored with 24, with 10 different players accounting for the 24 tallies. Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Tanner Thompson lead the way with four goals, while Patrick Doody, Grant Lillard and Jamie Vollmer have three each. Andrew Oliver and Trevor Swartz have come up with two each. Seven different players have double digits in the shot tally, led by 45 from Thompson. CAUGHT IN HIS WEBB Sophomore Colin Webb has been a standout in goal for IU in 2014 after taking over the starting role at the end of the 2013 season. Webb picked up his first shutout in a 1-0 win over No. 12 Marquette. For his play vs. the Golden Eagles and also in a 1-1 tie with No. 9 Georgetown, Webb was named to the adidas/iu Credit Union Classic All-Tournament team. He posted back-to-back shutouts in 1-0 wins over Kentucky and Dartmouth at the Mike Berticelli Memorial Tournament. Against the Big Green he stopped a penalty kick to preserve the IU victory. Webb also picked up back-to-back Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 2 and 9. His fourth shutout of the year came with three saves in a 0-0 double overtime tie with Butler. Shutout number five came with six saves in a 3-0 win at No. 18 Louisville. His sixth shutout was a 1-0 win over No. 1 Notre Dame on October 22. At Ohio State on October 12 Webb had three saves, including his second penalty kick stop of the season to preserve a 2-1 victory. So far this season Webb has 46 saves and allowed just 11 goals in 1397:59 minutes of action for a 0.71 GAA. 24 HEAD COACH TODD YEAGLEY TODD YEAGLEY HEAD COACH FIFTH SEASON Todd Yeagley was named head men s soccer coach on December 18, 2009 and is entering his fifth year as the Hoosiers leader. In just his third season as head coach, Yeagley led to the 2012 NCAA title, the eighth championship in IU history. The Hoosiers became the first No. 16 seed to win the championship, compiling victories over Xavier, at No. 1 Notre Dame, at No. 9 North Carolina, No. 12 Creighton and No. 3 Georgetown during their tournament run. PERSONAL HOMETOWN: Bloomington, Ind. FAMILY: Wife - Suzy; Sons - Ben, Grant & Jay HIGH SCHOOL: Bloomington South COLLEGE: PLAYING EXPERIENCE INDIANA : Midfielder/Defender PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE COLUMBUS CREW (MLS) : Midfielder 2002: Assistant General Manager COACHING EXPERIENCE WISCONSIN 2009: Head Coach INDIANA 2003: Volunteer Assistant Coach : Assistant Coach 2010-present: Head Coach Yeagley was named 2012 Soccer America Coach of the Year as he and his father Jerry become the only father-son duo to have won Division I men s soccer championships. Yeagley led to the 2013 Big Ten Tournament title, the school s first Tournament crown since That title assured IU of its 27th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance. For the second time in his head coaching tenure, IU had the Big Ten Freshman of the Year (Tommy Thompson), while Thompson, A.J. Corrado, Nikita Kotlov and Jacob Bushue were second-team All-Big Ten honorees. Corrado (third round-san Jose Earthquakes) and Kotlov (fourth round-portland Timbers) were selected in the 2014 Major League Soccer draft, while Tommy Thompson became s first player to sign an MLS Homegrown Contract, going to the Earthquakes. In 2012 seven Hoosiers earned All-Big Ten honors, led by Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year Eriq Zavaleta. A.J. Corrado joined Zavaleta on the All-Big Ten first team, while Nikita Kotlov, Jacob Bushue and Caleb Konstanski were second-team honorees. Femi Hollinger-Janzen and Richard Ballard were named to the allfreshman squad. Following the 2012 season the Hoosiers had a trio of Major League Soccer Draft picks. Zavaleta was selected 10th overall by the Seattle Sounders, while goalkeeper Luis Soffner was the 36th overall selection of the New England Revolution. Konstanski was taken by the Chicago Fire in the MLS Supplemental Draft. Since returning to his alma mater, Yeagley has produced 10 Major League Soccer Draft picks, IU s first MLS Homegrown signee, 21 All-Big Ten honorees (10 first-team selections) and three Big Ten Player of the Year selections. Under Yeagley s direction the Hoosiers have had 33 Academic All-Big Ten honorees, with that number going up each season (8-2010; ; ; ). The Hoosiers have also had a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in each of his three years (2010-Tyler McCarroll; 2011-Harrison Petts; 2012-A.J. Corrado; 2013 A.J. Corrado), as well as a third-team Academic All-America selection in A.J. Corrado (2013). The Hoosiers have been honored with an APR Recognition Award three times (2011, 2013, 2014), and earned a perfect APR score for the season. In 2011 the Hoosiers made their fourth-straight trip to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament, falling to eventual national champion UNC by a 1-0 score in overtime. IU posted a overall record, outscoring opponents Under Yeagley s direction produced the Big Ten Freshman of the Year (Eriq Zavaleta) and five firstteam All-Big Ten honorees (Zavaleta, Tommy Meyer, Chris Estridge, Nikita Kotlov, Alec Purdie). Meyer (LA Galaxy) and Estridge (Vancouver Whitecaps) were selected in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft, while Purdie was

25 taken by the New England Revolution in the MLS Supplemental draft. Yeagley s first year in 2010 was a memorable one as he led to its first Big Ten regular season title since 2007, as well as its third-consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament round of 16. In Yeagley s first season the Hoosiers saw marked improvement in their offensive production, with forward Will Bruin ranking among the nation s leaders in goals scored with 18. Bruin was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year and was runner-up for the M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, as well as a first-team All-American. Yeagley also took home his first Big Ten Coach of the Year award. Following his inaugural season at the helm, three Hoosier players signed contracts with Major League Soccer. Bruin was the 11th overall pick of the Houston Dynamo, while defender Rich Balchan was taken 12th overall by the Columbus Crew. Midfielder Andy Adlard also signed a contract with the Crew. Yeagley returned to his Hoosier roots after one season as head coach at Wisconsin. At Wisconsin, Yeagley took the helm of a program that had won just one game in conference play the previous year. In Yeagley s year in Madison, the Badgers showed demonstrable improvement as the season rolled along. Wisconsin knocked off three conference opponents with wins over eventual NCAA Tournament teams in Northwestern, Ohio State and Michigan State. It also played NCAA participant UC Santa Barbara to a 1-1 tie at a neutral site. The Badgers tied for fourth place in the conference at 3-3 after finishing in last place (1-4-1) the year prior to Yeagley s arrival. Considered one of collegiate soccer s rising stars in the coaching ranks, College Soccer News rated Yeagley as one of the top-12 assistant coaches in the country in Yeagley s coaching career began at in 2003 as a volunteer assistant before taking over a full-time assistant position in As a player, Yeagley was a four-time All-American at ( ) and in 1994 was named the Missouri Athletic Club National Player of the Year.
