1 2013 Basketball Results Friday, July 5, 2013 Boys Basketball - Reggie Lewis Center, Boston, Mass. Southeast 90 Northeast 57 In the opening game of the 2013 Bay State Summer Games boys basketball showcase Southeast stormed out to an early lead and never looked back to secure a victory over the Northeast at the Reggie Lewis Center. Center Tyler Gibson (Rockland), the 2013 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year, posted a game-high 14 points for Southeast s offense. Forward Ryan Jones (Weymouth) also contributed double-digits for Southeast with 13 points. Guard Christian Dunston (Salem) paced the Northeast with an eight-point effort while guards Alex Dirocco (Tewksbury), Zach Florio (Billerica) and Tommy Deveau (Lynn) chipped in seven points each. Metro 88 Central 68 Metro marked its first tally in the win column when it defeated Central, 88-68, in Game 2 at the Reggie Lewis Center Friday morning. Arlington natives forward Matt Woods and forward Frantz Pinard paced Metro s offense with 18 points and 14 points, respectively. Central center Seamus Bell (Winchendon) recorded a game-high 19 points and guard Richarde Bennefield (Fitchburg) also posted double-figures with 13 points. Coastal 92 West 80 In a high scoring matchup, with back-and-fourth action until the final frame, Coastal outlasted West for its first victory of the Games. Zach Tonello and forward Tucker Bouchard (Kingston) put on offensive performances to combine for more than half of Coastal s points with 25 and 22 points, respectively. West forward Kevan Lord (West Springfield) paced West s offense with 17 points while forward Alex Brown (Westfield) contributed 15 points. Southeast 94 Metro 78 In their second games of the tournament, Southeast and Metro battled to keep an unbeaten record going into Day 2. Center Tyler Gibson (Rockland) took the game into this own hands and poured in 39 points including six dunks, the most points scored by an individual Bay State Games boys basketball player since the 2011 Gold Medal Game when Nelson Baptiste netted 42, to propel Southeast to its second victory and 90-point game of the day. Metro received 26 points from guard Jamir Henderson (Concord) in the setback. West 90 Northeast 88 With two minutes remaining the game was tied at 88 before West s guard Paul Bessette (West Springfield) sunk the winning hoop to give West a victory over Northeast. Guard Manny Rivera (Holyoke) netted seven shots behind the arc for 26 points to lead West while forward Cam Burke (Lynn) paced Northeast s offense with 19 points. Coastal 98 Central 92 In the highest scoring game of the game, Coastal made the buckets when they counted to hold on for a win over Central Friday night. Tucker Bouchard (Kingston) netted a team-best 26

Central center Seamus Bell (Winchendon) recorded a game-high 35 points while Richarde Bennefield (Fitchburg) also posted double figures with 19 points. Girls Basketball - UMass Boston, Boston. Mass. Northeast 75 Southeast 61 Southeast center Ashley Snyder (Foxoborough) rejected a handful of Northeast attempts, but it wasn t enough to stop the Northeast sharpshooting guard trio of Kristen Bullocks (Bedford), Sam Cowan (Bedford) and Kristy McNall (Wakefield) who had the green light from behind the three-point line and shot Northeast to a victory Friday morning. The trio combined for 49 of the Northeast points with Cowan leading the way with 17 points including three behind the arc. Bullocks and McNall registered 16 points each. Forward Amy Assad (Millis) lead the Southeast offense with 11 points. Metro 64 Central 52 Metro earned a decisive, 64-52, victory against Central in Game 2 at UMass Boston Friday morning. Forward Maggie Mulligan (Boston) netted 15 points to lead Metro while Central guard Amanda Murphy (Northborough) paced all scorers with 16 points. Coastal 85 West 42 With just enough athletes to fill the five spots on the floor, the Coastal girls basketball team dominated West and soared to a 43-point victory, 85-42, Friday afternoon at UMass Boston. Coastal forward Norma Wagget (Saugus) registered 27 points, the most a girl s Bay State Games basketball player has scored since Chelsea Campellone (Fall River) posted 35 points for Coastal on July 8, Guard Brianna Camara (Fall River) commanded Coastal s offense to have a hand in multiple hoops. West was led by an 18-point effort from forward Octavia McAllister (Springfield). Metro 60 Southeast 47 Metro defeated Southeast, 60-47, Friday afternooon to remain undefeated headed into Day 2. Kazakh Laracuante paced Metro s offense with 14 points including three 3-pointers. Center Ashley Snyder (Foxoborough) posted seven points for Southeast. Northeast 78 West 36 Northeast put on an offensive showcase as they defeated West, Kristy McNall (Wakefield) netted 20 points to lead Northeast to a 2-0 record after Day 1 of play. West s Octavia McAllister (Springfield) posted a team-high 19 points. Central 45 Coastal 39 In a hard fought battle by both teams Central used its defense to record a victory over Coastal Friday night. Northborough native s forward Dorian McMenemy and guard Amanda Murphy lead the way for Central each recording double figures. McMenemy recorded 16 points while Murphy chipped in 15. Coastal center Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater) paced all scorers with 20 points.
3 Saturday, July 6, 2013 Boys Basketball - Reggie Lewis Center, Boston, Mass. Southeast 83 Coastal 71 Down 15 in the second quarter, the Southeast burst out of the locker rooms for a 12-point run to comeback and defeated Coastal Saturday morning at the Reggie Lewis Center. Center Tyler Gibson (Rockland) lead Southeast with 21 points while forward Ryan Jones (Weymouth), despite being a foul away from ejection for the entire second half, contributed nine points. Coastal received a 16-point effort from Jack Murphy (Plymouth) and Tucker Bouchard (Kingston). West 92 Central 86 Despite several late comeback attempts, West held on to defeat Central, 92-86, to remain undefeated (3-0). West received a 20-point effort from Manny Rivera (Holyoke) while Nicholas Will (Hopkinton) poured in 20 points for Central. Metro 98 Northeast 74 Metro ran away with a victory over Northeast Friday afternoon. For the winners, Frantz Pinard (Arlington) led all scorers with 19. Cam Burke (Lynn) paced Northeast s squad with 15 points. Southeast 112 Central 71 Southeast posted the first 100-point game of the tournament to defeat Central, Forward Ryan Jones (Weymouth) paced Southeast in its fourth straight victory with 22 points while Central also had a player with a 22-point effort in center Seamus Bell (Winchendon). Coastal 104 Northeast 75 Coastal put on an offensive showcase as they defeated Northeast, Center Jack Murphy (Plymouth) and guard Tony Pires (Carver) each poured in 18 points for the winners. Guard Chrstian Dunston (Salem) 24-point effort Northeast. Metro 94 West 84 Metro shot 72 percent (18-25) from the charity strip in the second half, which was the difference in what was a tied game at 55 apiece with over 10 minutes to play, to secure a victory over West in Saturday s finale. Forward Matt Woods (Arlington) led the winners with 25 points including 5-for-6 from the foul line. Guard Jamir Henderson (Concord) and forward Frantz Pinard (Arlington) also notched double figures for Northeast with 17 points and 15 points, respectively. West saw four players reach double digits with guard Manny Rivera s (Holyoke) 19-point effort leading the way. Forward Kevan Lord (Hatfield) contributed 16 and guard Paul Bessette (West Springfield) registered 14. Guard Derek McMahon (Hatfield) rounded out the scorers with 13 points.
4 Girls Basketball - Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, Mass. Southeast 65 Coastal 62 The second day of girls basketball competition started off with the tightest battle of the Games thus far. Southeast held onto its slim three-point intermission advantage to claim a victory over Coastal Saturday morning at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Center Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater) suffered an ankle injury that eliminated Coastal s bench and forced the team to play with only five players in the second half. Coastal did not let up on the pressure and had the chance to knot things up with a minute remaining when Paulina Feitelberg (Fall River) let her seventh three go, but the ball bounced around the rim and Southeast recorded its first victory of the Games. Feitelberg showed her exceptional skills outside the arc, netting six trey s to lead all scorers with 18 points. Guard Brianna Camara (Fall River) and forward Bailey Brooks (Fall River) also finished the game in double figures with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Guard Katie Lowerre (Sharon) paced Southeast s offense with 13 points. Forward Amy Assad (Millis) chipped in 11 points for Southeast. Central 61 West 52 Central beat West, 61-52, Friday morning behind double-digit performances from two of its players. Amanda Murphy (Northborough) recorded a team-high 13 points while Meaghann Akermann (Littleton) chipped in with 12. West shooting guard Rachel Gordon (Monson) led all scorers with 18 points. Metro 56 Northeast 45 In a battle of the unbeaten, Metro fought hard to come out victorious over Northeast, The game saw well rounded scoring with Metro s forward Kristen Siscamanis (Winthrop) leading all players. Guard Sarah Kinney (Wayland) paced Northeast s offensive effort with nine points. Central 55 Southeast 54 Headed into the fourth quarter Southeast had the game locked up, but guard Amy Willichowski s (Westborough) second half 14-point performance rallied Central to come from behind to defeat Southeast, Forward Dorian McEnemy (Northborough) tied the game and netted the eventual game winner on an offensive put back after controlling the boards throughout the second half. Guard Amanda Murphy (Northborough) also chipped in 13 points for the winners. Guard Katie Lowerre s (Sharon) 15-point effort paced Southeast while forward Kayla Corshia (Medway) also had double figures with 14 points. Metro 72 West 38 All of Metro s players made it into the scorebook as West became Metro s fourth victim of the tournament, 72-38, Saturday afternoon at UMass Boston. gurad Indira Evora (Somerville) led Metro s offensive output with 15 points. Monson natives, shooting guard Rachel Gordon and forward Megan Pehoviak accounted for 29 of West s points. Gordon notched a game-high 17 points where as Pehoviak dropped 12 points. Northeast 68 Coastal 38 A trio of players recorded double figures as Northeast dominated Coastal, 68-38, in Saturday s finale at Wentworth. Forward Amanda Matthews (Peabody) led Northeast s charge with 14
5 while guard Samantha Trant (Stoneham) and guard Kristen Bullock (Bedford) registered 13 and 10 points, respectively. Coastal forward Samantha Medeiros (Westport) led all scorers with 15. Forward Norma Wagget (Saugus) also posted double digits with 13. Sunday, July 7, 2013 Boys Basketball - Wentworth Institute of Technology, Boston, Mass. Northeast 81 Central 78 Northeast grabbed its first win of the Games in a tight battle against Central 81-78, Sunday morning at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Guard, forward John Teehan (Peabody) and forward Joseph Bertrand (Saugus) led the winners with 15 points each. Central center Seamus Bell (Wincedon) paced all scorers with 30 points. Guard Matt Sargent (Worcester) and guard Zachary Knapp (Princeton) also posted double figures with 18 points and 16 points, respectively. Southeast 98 West 76 West gave Southeast a battle, but Southeast pulled away in the final quarter to secure its unbeaten record (5-0) with a victory. Southeast guard Ryan Roach (Weymouth) posted a game-high 31 points. Guard Manny Riveria (Holyoke) led West with 18 points. Coastal 103 Metro 85 In the final round robin matchup, Coastal took control late to pull away with a victory over Metro. Metro (3-2) will via for the Bronze Medal against West while Coastal (3-2) will face Southeast in the Gold Medal contest. Forward Frantz Pinard (Arlington) paced Metro with 19 points. Coastal received a game-high 25-point effort from guard Tony Pires (Carver). Guard Tucker Bouchard (Kingston) chipped in 21 points for Coastal. Bronze Medal Game - Metro 98 West 94 Metro used momentum from its round robin three-game winning streak to capture the bronze medal with a victory over West Sunday afternoon. Forward Phil Leotsakos (Arlington) paced Metro s offensive effort with 22 points. Forward Cam Earle (South Hadley) led the way for West with 15 points. Gold Medal Game - Southeast 94 Coastal 83 Southeast made Bay State Games history in the boys basketball Sunday night when it defeated Coastal to capture the gold medal for the second consecutive year and doing so with an unblemished 6-0 record. Southeast went into the locker rooms at half time with a comfortable lead, but Coastal made a push in the second half to cut the lead to eight points. In the end, Southeast remained strong and held on for the victory. Forward Brandon Cawley (Abington) notched 19 points to lead Southeast. Guard Tony Pires (Carver) posted a 22-point effort to pace the silver medalist.
6 Girls Basketball - University of Massachusetts Boston, Boston, Mass. Northeast 47 Central 35 In a low scoring game defense was the difference for Northeast to claim a victory over Central Sunday morning. Guard Samantha Cowan (Bedford) led Northeast in its first victory of the Games with 22 points. Central received a 10-point effort from small forward Brianna Camara (Fall River). Southeast 79 West 52 Southeast earned a decisive, 79-52, win against West Sunday morning. Southeast received 17 points from guard Katie Lowerre (Sharon) and 16 points from forward Jill Spolidoro (Franklin). West also had two players post double figures. Point guard Rachel Gordon (Monson) led all scorers with 19 points while small forward Gabrielle Haywood (East Longmeadow) notched 10 points. Metro 70 Coastal 50 Metro cruised past Coastal, 70-50, Sunday afternoon in the round robin finale. Metro (5-0) will go for gold against Northeast while Coastal ended the Games 1-4. Both teams received a well balanced scoring effort. Bronze Medal Game - Southeast 68 Central 59 Southeast claimed the bronze medal with a decision over Central Sunday afternoon. Southeast received an 11-point effort from two players. Central guard Amanda Murphy (Northborough) paced all scorers with 14 points. Gold Medal Game - Metro 70 Northeast 66 (Overtime) At the buzzer Northeast forward Stephanie Bramante (Stoneham) sunk a bucket to force overtime. Northeast s late momentum wasn t enough as Metro outlasted Northeast in the extra frame to hold onto its unbeaten record and seize the gold medal,
Jack Wilhoite (Winchester), junior at Belmont Hill School, was effective against Cashman going 1-for-2 with a double.
