Live Scoring: Online Video: Online Audio: Radio: KJTV AM950/100.7FM All-Time Series: LCU leads 2-0 BACK TO HEARTLAND Lubbock Christian University returns to Heartland Conference play Thursday opening up the week in Wichita, Kansas facing Newman University before heading to Oklahoma City Saturday afternoon for a tilt with Oklahoma Christian University. LCU is one of two teams in the Heartland Conference without a loss in conference play. They are 2-0 in conference and St. Edwards is 4-0, as the only teams with a flawless conference record. The Lady Chaps and Oklahoma Panhandle State are the only teams in the conference with less than three games played, as they had an earlier scheduled contest (Jan. 3) postponed until Jan. 19 in Goodwell, Okla. LOOKING BACK AT THE LAST GAME Lubbock Christian University had an 18-point lead and led for over 33 minutes, but they were unable to hold a ten-point lead with over three minutes remaining and fell to NAIA No. 2 ranked Oklahoma City University New Year s Day inside Rip Griffin Center. LCU led with 3:05 left, but OCU closed the game on a 16-2 run. The Stars were 6-of-7 during the span from the field, while LCU was 1-of-5 with three turnovers down the stretch. The Lady Chaps lost the lead with 57 seconds remaining off a Marisha Wallace jumper. LCU had led since a Blair Taylor three pointer, which had put them up with 14:48 left in the opening half. Oklahoma City opened the game knocking down their first three three-point field goals and took a 12-6 lead three minutes into the contest. LCU did rally back and Taylor s three pointer was part of 30-6 run for LCU, which gave them their largest lead of the game (36-18) with 9:21 left in the first half. The Lady Chaps made 13 consecutive field goals during the run. They led at halftime shooting 60.6% (20/33) from the field in the first half. They were 16-of-22 (72.7%) inside the perimeter. Bailey Haist made a free-throw with 14:21 left in the second half for LCU s largest second half lead (57-45). They maintained the lead until OCU s late rally in the final three minutes. The game was also LCU s first game against OCU since leaving the Sooner Athletic Conference. LCU falls to 8-4 with the loss, while OCU improves to 7-1. It was the Stars seventh straight win. STREAK STILL STANDING The Lady Chaps have had a lot of streaks over the past three seasons, as they have gone 64-9 since the start of the season. A few streaks continue and one that is the strongest is LCU s 25 consecutive conference wins, which leads all NCAA Div. II. LCU s last loss in conference play was back on Feb. 14, 2013 at Rogers State. Their last home loss in conference play was Jan. 10, 2010 (LCU has won 18 straight conference home games). Their pace of 9.3 per game ranks second behind Emporia State (9.6). Individually, Kellyn Schneider (46) and Tess Bruffey (45) are both atop the Heartland Conference in blocks. Schneider s 46 blocks ranks fourth amongst NCAA Div. II leaders and Bruffey ranks fifth. The two Lady Chaps marks already have them each in the top-five single-season totals in program history. ON THE SCHNEID Inside player Kellyn Schneider has at least 10 rebounds in each of LCU s conference games this season (two games). The last time LCU had a player with at least 10 rebounds in three consecutive conference games was Feb. 9-16, 2013, with Nicole Hampton producing at least rebounds in three straight conference games. She also had a streak of four straight +10 rebound performances earlier that same season in conference play. Schneider is third in the conference with an average of 9.2 rebounds per game. MORE ON BOARDS LCU had only out-rebounded their opponent twice through their first nine games this season, but they have out-rebounded in each of their two conference games this season and in their last three consecutive games played. They had 29 more rebounds than Texas A&M International in their Dec. 18th meeting. That is the biggest advantage since a +33 advantage against Mid- America Christian on Jan. 12, HELPING HAND Haley Burton leads the Heartland Conference with 6.8 assists per game and a total of 82. The mark ranks her fifth nationally in total assists and sixth in assists per game. She also ranks second in the conference in assist/turnover ratio with a mark of 2.2. CHARITY STRIPE SUCCESS Prior to making the move to NCAA Division II, LCU was in the top-10 in the NAIA in free-throw shooting for eight consecutive seasons: 12/13 (1st), 11/12 (1st), 10/11 (9th), 09/10 (5th), 08/09 (2nd), 07/08 (1st), 06/07 (6th) and 05/06 (9th). Last season, LCU led the conference with a 78.1% shooting mark from the free-throw line, which ranked fifth in NCAA Division II. Hoppel set the program s single season free-throw shooting mark last season at 93.8%. It broke Nicole Hampton s mark of 92.4% from the season. This season, LCU leads the Heartland Conference and is 17th nationally from the charity stripe with a mark of 76.1%. Allison Szabo leads the conference with a mark of 89.4% (42/47), which is 22nd nationally. ABOUT NU The Jets are one of four teams in the Heartland Conference still seeking their first conference win of the season. The 3-9 overall squad is 0-4 in conference play. They are without any players in double figures offensively and starving to end a six-game losing streak dating back to Dec. 1. NU is 2-5 at home and are winless in their last three home tilts. Brianna Caldwell (33 three-pointers) and Keesha Buckner (33 steals) are the only players for NU listed in the top-three of statistical categories in the Heartland Conference. THE SERIES AGAINST NU LCU (2-0 all-time in the series) swept the season series last season. The first meeting was on Nov. 23, 2013 in Lubbock, and the game (LCU won 95-66) was LCU s first ever game against a Kansas based school. It was followed with LCU s first ever game on Kansas soil, with LCU defeating NU in Wichita (Mar. 2, 2014). The win for LCU in Wichita was Steve Gomez s 250th career coaching victory. THE LAST MEETING AGAINST NU Mar. 2, 2014 (Wichita, Kan.) - LCU: 73 / NU 68 Kelsey Hoppel buried five three-pointers in the second half and finished with a career-high 22 points to help Lubbock Christian University head coach Steve Gomez claim his 250th career LCU coaching victory in a Heartland Conference road win over Newman University Thursday night at Fugate Gymnasium. It was another game in which LCU had to overcome a sluggish start. For an eighth consecutive game, LCU found themselves trailing in the opening half. A 7-0 run to open the game caught LCU by surprise, but a trey by Hoppel and an old fashioned threepoint play by Emily Pool helped the Lady Chaps climb back to eventually tie the game at with 8:09 left in the half. The Jets surged again in the half, as Shekeira Copeland scored five of her 14 first half points during a 9-1 run to take a lead with 4:58 to go before the break. LCU nearly had a chance to take the lead heading in the half. They went on 9-0 run for a lead before Alexandra Ciabattoni hit a jumper at the horn to give the Jets a halftime advantage. It marked the third time this season LCU has trailed at the break. The outside shooting was ugly in the half, as the two teams combined to go 2-of-15 from long range (LCU was 1-of-9 and Newman was 1-of-6). The two teams would end up lighting it up from outside in the second half, and it got underway with Hoppel hitting a threepointer 22-seconds into the half for a LCU lead. Hoppel made five three-pointers in the opening eight minutes of the half. LCU s first four field goals of the half were treys from Hoppel and five of the first eight field goals over the eight minute span were Hoppel three-pointers. The outside-shooting display was not allowing the Lady Chaps to speed past the Jets, as NU answered two of the three-pointers and held LCU to a lead with 11:42 remaining. Through the game s first 34 minutes, all six of the team s three-pointers were off the release of Hoppel. She was finally joined by Haley Burton, who connected from long range with 5:49 to go for a LCU lead. Cierra Tjaden answered Burton s trey with one of her own, and Newman had the hot-hand outside with Brianna Caldwell nailing a three-pointer with 3:56 to go to cut the Lady Chaps lead to Late in the game, Kaycie Boyles took over for LCU to help preserve the lead. She had six field goals in the second half, with five coming in the final nine minutes over a seven minute span. Four of her field goals came with either the game tied or while the LCU lead was by two-points or less. With 3:23 remaining, she had a layup for a lead and then followed with a layup with 2:06 left for a lead. In the game s remainder, LCU scored their final three points from the free-throw line as Newman ended the game 1-of-4 from the field over the final two minutes. The teams combined for 12 three-pointers in the second half (7 by LCU) after combining for only two in the first half. Hoppel ended the game with 17 points in the second half and her six three-pointers were one off matching a career high. Her career-high 22 points led the team and was a pair off a game-high 24 points from Ciabattoni. Pool and Boyles each notched 15 points and Burton finished with 11 points. LCU was 8-of-20 from three-point range, with Hoppel going 6-of-7. Burton was 2-of-3 from three-point range, placing the rest of the team a combined 0-of-10. LCU did benefit from a 26-9 advantage in free-throw attempts and a advantage in rebounds. Pool and Haley Fowler each had nine rebounds for LCU, with Fowler s mark serving as a career best. LCU struggled from the freethrow line with a mark of 57.7% (15/26) from the line for only their second sub-70% shooting mark from the line this season. Ciabattoni was solid for NU with an 11-of-15 shooting performance from the field and nine rebounds to go along with her 24 points. Copeland, who had 14 in the first half, finished the game with 16 points. The game was LCU s first game on Kansas soil in program history. ABOUT OC The Lady Eagles, like Newman, head into conference action Thursday seeking their first Heartland Conference win. They host Oklahoma Panhandle State Thursday before hosting LCU Saturday. OC enters the week 3-9 overall and seeking to end a four game losing streak. They are 3-5 at home and have lost their last two home games. All three of their wins on the season are against NAIA programs. A bright note on the season has been the play of McKenzie Stanford, who enters the week third in the Heartland Conference with a scoring pace of 16.8 points per game. THE SERIES AGAINST OC OC leads the all-time series dating back to Despite trailing the all-time series, LCU has won 13 of the last 16 meetings. Both teams are former Sooner Athletic Conference foes. LCU swept the series last season, winning in the prior meeting (in Lubbock on Feb. 8, 2014). LCU made a program record 16 three-pointers in the win. The last meeting in Oklahoma City (Dec. 14, 2013) resulted in a LCU win. THE LAST MEETING AGAINST OC Feb. 8, 2014 (Lubbock, Texas) - LCU: 108 / OC 79 Emily Pool tallied 20 points in the first half and Lubbock Christian University used a program single-game record 16 three-pointers to register a program single-game record for points in a conference game, as LCU extended their win streak to a program record 18 games in a Heartland Conference victory over Oklahoma Christian University Saturday inside Rip Griffin Center. LCU never trailed in the game and exploded with 66 first half points. Oklahoma Christian went the opening 3:38 without a field goal and made only one of their first 10 shot attempts. Meanwhile Pool supplied LCU their opening nine points for a 9-0 lead. Pool was 7-of-8 from the field in the half for her 20 first half points. Her and teammate Kelsey Hoppel each went 4-of-4 from three-point range to combine for an 8-of-8 shooting performance behind the arc in the half alone. LCU produced 12 three-pointers in the half on a 12-of-20 (60%) display from long range. They were 60.5% (23/38) from the field overall in the half. Freshman Hannah Harbin came off the bench and provided 10 points in the half, leading to the halftime lead. They assisted on 18 of the 23 field goals in the half, with Hoppel providing six assists with her 12 points in the half. LCU also had a 22-4 advantage in points off turnovers (turnovers were 14-3 in LCU s favor at the break) before the break. Once building the LCU lead to 34 points 11 seconds into the second half (68-34), the Lady Chaps went with their bench. The Lady Chaps starting unit averaged only eight minutes of playing time in the second half (averaged 13 minutes in the opening half). Allison Szabo hit a three-pointer for an lead nearly seven minutes into the half to match the program single-game three-point shooting record (15), and on the next possession, Haley Fowler set the record with the team s 16th trey of the game. Hoppel was 5-of-5 from three-point range in the game and is the first Lady Chaps player to remain perfect with at least five three-point attempts on the Rip Griffin Center floor. The prior best was by Ginger Armacost, who went 7-of-8 against Wayland Baptist on Jan. 8, The Lady Chaps completed the game 59.3% (16/27) from long distance and 51.5% (35/68) overall. The season-best 59.3% from the perimeter was their best shooting performance from long range since shooting 64.3% (9/14) on Nov. 16, 2012 at Metro State. Pool finished the game 9-of-12 from the field and 5-of-7 from three-point range for a season-high 25 points. It was her first 20-point-plus performance of the season and the 17th of her LCU career. Pool s five three-pointers provide her with 164 career three-pointers and she moves into fifth place in LCU s all-time record books for career three-point field goals. She passed Brandi Grider, who had 159 three-pointers from Along with 25 points from Pool, LCU also received 15 points from Hoppel, a career-high 14 points from Hannah Harbin, 13 points from Fowler and 11 points from Kaycie Boyles. Starters Hoppel (5-of-5), Pool (9-of-12) and Boyles (4-of-6) combined to shoot 78.3% (18/23) from the field. LCU out-scored OC in the paint and in points off turnovers. OC did have the upper hand in rebounds, with a advantage in the category. It was the most rebounds an LCU squad has allowed since Oklahoma City had 51 rebounds on Jan.5, LCU has only been out-rebounded four times in 21 games this season. OC was led offensively by Sydney Hill, who had 18 points (nine from the free-throw line). They also received 12 points from Logan McKee. The 108 points was a program best for a conference game, topping the prior high of 104, which came on Jan. 4 against Texas A&M International. Speaking of 100 points, the Lady Chaps topped 100 points for a second consecutive game against OC in Lubbock.

3 HEAD COACH STEVE GOMEZ AT LCU: 12th Season ( ) OVERALL: 12th Season ( ) PERSONAL HOMETOWN: Lubbock, Texas SPOUSE: Shawna CHILDREN: Hayden, Landon EDUCATION Lubbock Christian / 1988 COACHING EXPERIENCE Lubbock Cooper High School (7 seasons) LCU (12th season) GOMEZ S YEAR-BY-YEAR RESULTS COACHING STAFF ASSISTANT COACH: CALEB HENSON VOLUNTEER ASSISTANT COACH: VIC SELF GRADUATE ASSISTANT COACH: KAYCIE BOYLES STUDENT TRAINER: JOCELYN RICHARDSON In 10 seasons at the helm while an NAIA institution, the Lady Chaps made 10 consecutive trips to the NAIA Division I Women s Basketball National Championship tournament. Coach Gomez s arrival to the LCU women s basketball program has certainly changed the foundation of the program. In those ten seasons at the helm, LCU has posted a record under Gomez in the NAIA. As they moved into their transition to NCAA Div. II, the results have not changed. LCU went a remarkable 25-1 overall in and they completed the Heartland Conference with a perfect 20-0 mark for their first perfect conference record in program history. In their final two seasons in the NAIA ( , ), LCU set program single-season win records in each of the seasons. The Lady Chaps went 31-4 in , setting a program single-season wins mark (31). The Lady Chaps won their first ever Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament title en route to their final trip to the NAIA National Championship tournament. In , LCU went 28-6 and made their second ever appearance in the Semifinals of the NAIA National Championship Tournament. They lost out to eventual national champions Oklahoma City to mark the second consecutive season in which they lost out to the team who would claim the title. LCU claimed their second Sooner Athletic Conference crown in program history, as they joined Oklahoma City as conference co-champions with a 21-1 record. They handed OCU their only loss of the season. LCU went in and marched into the Elite Eight for a third time in program history. The Lady Chaps, who finished third in the Sooner Athletic Conference, lost in the NAIA National Championship to evential national champion Azusa Pacific. LCU went in the season, which included a 13-9 finish in the Sooner Athletic Conference, and had their season come to an end in the National Tournament. The highlight of the season was an exhibition victory inside the United Spirit Arena against Texas Tech University. In , the Lady Chaps finished with a solid 27-7 record and made a trip to the Sweet Sixteen of the National Tournament following a second-place Sooner Athletic Conference season. Gomez chalked up a milestone during the season, becoming the all-time women s basketball wins leader at LCU. LCU had a memorable campaign, as the Lady Chaps made another voyage to the NAIA National Tournament. The Lady Chaps completed a season, which included a trip to the Elite Eight in the tournament for their second best finish in program history. In , Gomez led the Lady Chaps to a myriad of firsts in their near thirty year history. Lubbock Christian never left the top-10 in the NAIA National Poll, and set a school mark for wins in a season with 26, eclipsing the school mark of 23 they set the prior season. In addition, LCU made its fourth consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament, finishing in the Sweet Sixteen and most impressively, the Lady Chaps captured a share of the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season championship, becoming the first school from outside of the State of Oklahoma to do so in the thirty-one years since the conference was founded. In , Gomez s Lady Chaps enjoyed what was arguably at the time the best season in school history, as they finished with an overall record of 23-12, and made an unparalleled run at the NAIA National Tournament. Seeded 6th in their eight team bracket in the tournament, Gomez s girls proceeded to oust four of the top six teams in the nation and become the lowest seed ever to reach either the Fab Four or National Championship; appropriately enough, he was named the SAC s Coach of the Year. In his first season, Gomez s Lady Chaps went and finished fifth in the Sooner Athletic Conference. While this might appear to be an average year, big wins for the Lady Chaps and entry into the NAIA National Poll for the first time proved good enough for an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament: LCU women s first trip to the big dance. In his second season, the Lady Chaps were able to maintain that level of success. After getting off to the best conference start since joining the Sooner Athletic Conference at 6-2, LCU finished SAC play at 10-8, good enough for another 5th place finish, and for the second season in a row, Coach Gomez guided the Lady Chaps to the NAIA National Tournament. An LCU graduate, Gomez was a standout perimeter player for Coach John Copeland in the late 1980s, and to this day, he still holds the school record for career free throw percentage at.855. He graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor s of Science Degree in Mathematics and consistently used his degree to teach in the classroom while pursuing coaching on the sidelines. Gomez s career began at Lubbock Monterey High School where he served as an assistant coach in the men s basketball program from 1988 to In 1996, Gomez accepted the men s basketball head coaching position at Lubbock Cooper High School, where he remained until returning to Lubbock Christian University to take over the reigns of the Lady Chaps in During his seven seasons at Cooper, the basketball program broke new ground making the playoffs four times, managing the school s first state ranking, and capturing the Pirates only district championship in Gomez s final season. One of the main reasons Coach Gomez is so successful on the court is the support he receives off of it. Steve has been married to his wife Shawna for 24 years, and the couple has two children: Hayden and Landon.

26 90 93 GAME:1 COLO. COLORADO SPRINGS VS LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Nov. 14, Golden, Colo. GOLDEN, Colo. (November 14, 2014) Haley Burton tied a program single-game record with seven threepointers, leading to a 29-point performance to eclipse the 1,000-point mark in her Lubbock Christian University career, but her performance was not good enough to extend the NCAA Division II s second-leading active win streak, as the program record win streak came to an end with a season opening loss to University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday at the Tony Corbetta Classic inside Colorado School of Mines Lockridge Arena. Burton is the newest member of the 1,000-point club in LCU history and the first since teammate Nicole Hampton eclipsed the mark last season. She entered the game needing 10 points to hit the mark and she easily completed the task in the first half with 21 of her points coming in the first half. She was 5-of-5 from long range in the first half and then connected with two three-pointers late in regulation. It was a career high for her and LCU has not had a player with at least seven three-pointers since Nov. 17, 2011 with Kelsey Hoppel recording seven three-pointers at Azusa Pacific. Burton and sophomore Bailey Haist combined 9-for-11 from three-point range and accounted for 35 of LCU s 44 points in the first half. Haist, a Colorado Springs, Colo. native, had the early bragging rights playing against her sister McKenna Haist. The two teams combined for 16 three-pointers in the first half. LCU was 9-for-15 (60%) and UCCS was 7-for-12. LCU had a 13-point lead in the first half before taking a lead into the locker room for half time. UCCS had 19 of their 37 points in the first half scored off the bench for a 19-0 advantage against LCU s bench. Gabby Ramirez produced 11 points off the bench for UCCS and connected on three three-pointers. The momentum shift occurred midway through the second half. After a Blair Taylor three-pointer put LCU up with 14:31 to go, UCCS went on a 13-4 run for a advantage. Hayley Fowler helped LCU produce a 9-2 run, which gave LCU a lead with 4:46 remaining, but LCU could not hold the lead. From the 4:46 mark until 25 seconds remaining, LCU was 1-of-8 from the field and committed a pair of turnovers, while UCCS out-scored them 16-3 during the scoring drought. Down, with 30 seconds to go, LCU did make things interesting. Tess Bruffey connected on a field goal and Burton connected on her final two three-pointers in the game s final 16 seconds. Her final long range shot was made with three seconds left to cut the deficit to Jessica Kienitz was fouled with one second remaining and missed her first free throw. There was a lane violation against UCCS on her second attempt, so LCU did have an inbounds needing a desperation heave with one second left, but they never got a shot off. UCCS produced 11 of their final 15 points over the game s final 2:42 from the free-throw line, including the final eight points over the final 1:04. The last six points were off successful free-throw attempts by Abby Kirchoff, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference s Preseason Player of the Year. She was 13-for-13 from the free-throw line (all in the second half), which is the best mark by a LCU opposing player since opposing player highs were kept on file five seasons ago. The two teams combined for five free-throws in the first half, but the second half witnessed a combined 43 free-throw attempts. UCCS, who had two free-throw attempts in the first half, had 29 attempts in the second half. They knocked down 25 of the 29 attempts in the half (86.2%) and finished the game 25-of-31 (80.6%) from the line. UCCS had a advantage in points from the line in the game over LCU, who was 70.6% (12-of-17) from the line in the game. The Lady Chaps (32/69, 46.4%) out-shot UCCS (28/ %) from the field in the game, which had both teams shooting over 50% from long range (LCU: 14/27, 51.9%; UCCS: 12/21, 57.1%). Burton led all scorers with 29 points. She was joined offensively by Tess Bruffey (16 points), Haist (14 points) and Fowler (11 points) in the losing effort. Bruffey completed a double-double with 10 rebounds in her colle-giate debut. Kirchoff finished with 26 points and eight assists. The Mountain Lions also had 20 points from Brittany Hernandez, 16 points from Ramirez and 11 points from Tori Fisher GAME:2 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN AT COLO. SCHOOL OF MINES Nov. 15, Golden, Colo. GOLDEN, Colo. (November 15, 2014) Lubbock Christian University was able to overcome a cold shooting performance and Haley Fowler produced her first career doubledouble with 16 points and 11 rebounds to help LCU claim their first victory of the season with a win over Colorado School of Mines Saturday night at Lockridge Arena. LCU was able to win despite a 9/35 (25.7%) shooting performance in the second half and a 30.6% (19/62) shooting clip in the game. The Lady Chaps, who never shot under 40% from the field last season, had their worst shooting performance since shooting 20.9% against Metro State on Nov. 5, Game-by-game statistical archives go back 11 seasons and the 30.6% shooting mark is the lowest shooting mark in which LCU won. Bailey Haist (1-of-10), Kellyn Schneider (1-of-7), Tess Bruffey (1-of-6) and Hannah Harbin (1-of-5) each had a frustrating night, combining for a 4-of-28 (14.3%) shooting mark. The positive was LCU s ability to garner the victory after dropping a seven-point lead and the game to open the season Friday. They led at the half and led as much as nine points (41-32) in the second half before CSM rallied back. The Orediggers were able to rally to tie the game at with less than seven minutes to go. The game would be tied as late as with 4:18 remaining, but LCU never allowed CSM regain the lead. Schneider and Haist each had their first field goal of the game inside the final five minutes and they came as part of a 6-0 LCU run for a with 3:04 remaining. The Lady Chaps, who faced a free-throw shooting discrepancy Friday night, was able to take advantage of the opportunity Saturday. LCU (21/30 from the line in the game) outscored CSM 21-6 from the line. Schneider was 6-for-6 from the line. LCU had nine blocks in the game, with seven coming from Kellyn Schneider. The seven blocks is the most by a Lady Chap over the prior 11 seasons that archived game-bygame statistics have been kept on file (program record is eight). Schneider finished the game with 11 rebounds, eight points and seven blocks. Haley Burton produced 14 points for LCU and was the only player to join Fowler in double figures for LCU. Fowler was 6-of-11 from the field for her 16 points and also had nine rebounds on the defensive end for 11 overall rebounds in the game. Callie Sandusky provided LCU a solid four minutes off the bench. She produced two steals, two points, a block, an assist and a rebound. Courtney Martin led CSM with 17 points. The contest was the first ever meeting between the two programs. 27 87 68 GAME:3 MID-AMERICA CHRISTIAN AT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Nov. 24, Lubbock, Texas LUBBOCK, Texas (November 22, 2014) - Kellyn Schneider matched a Lubbock Christian University single-game program record with eight blocks, and five different Lady Chaparrals finished in double figures offensively to help LCU claim an win in their home opener over Mid-America Christian University Saturday afternoon inside Rip Griffin Center. Schneider produced eight of LCU s 14 blocks in the game. The eight blocks was the most since Suzanne Copeland posted 18 on Feb. 12, The team s 14 blocks was three away from their program record of 17 blocks (Feb. 19, 1991) and it is only the second time a Lady Chaps squad has produced at least 10 blocks in a game under Steve Gomez, who is coaching in his 12th season with the Lady Chaps. Along with eight blocks, Schneider also produced 16 rebounds, which is the highest individual game total for a Lady Chap since Jordan Hampton produced 16 on Jan. 27, Schneider produced 11 of her rebounds in the first half. The game s shooting was sloppy at first, as a little over four minutes into the contest, LCU was 2-of-9 from the field (22%), but leading 9-5 over MACU, who was 2-of-6 (33%) from the field at the same point. LCU would go on to shoot 53.6% (15/28). They would go 13-of-19 (68.4%) after their first nine shot attempts in the half, including a span of six minutes in which they were 7-of-8 from the field. They out-scored MACU 18-9 over the stretch and led with 6:24 remaining in the half. LCU would eventually use 12 points in the half from Tess Bruffey for a halftime lead. Alexia Kelley, who did not play in the opening half, scored the opening bucket of the second half for MACU and helped MACU rally back. A 6-1 run capped by a Kelley jumper with 14:18 remaining cut LCU s lead to Blair Taylor helped LCU steel the momentum by knocking down a three-pointer, as part of a career-high 12-point performance, to help ignite a 9-2 run for a lead with 11:13 left. MACU never got within 17 points the rest of the way and trailed as much as (5:17 remaining) before the final horn sounded. Taylor scored 10 points in the second half to lead all scorers past the break. She was joined in double figures by Haley Burton (15 points), Tess Bruffey (14 points), Bailey Haist (10 points) and Haley Fowler (10 points). Burton also provided seven assists. Callie Sandusky matched a career high with six points and also had a career high three blocks. MACU received 12 points in the loss from Shakayla Love and Ashlee Ferguson missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. The win was LCU s third consecutive home opener with a victory. They are now 11-1 all-time in home openers under head coach Steve Gomez. They also extend their home win streak to 18 games GAME:4 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN AT ANGELO STATE Nov. 28, San Angelo, Texas SAN ANGELO, Texas (November 24, 2014) Freshman Tess Bruffey recorded her second double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and also supplied Lubbock Christian University with seven of their 12 blocks to help LCU to a win over Angelo State University in nonconference play inside Junell Center Monday night. The Lady Chaps improved to 3-1 with the win, but it was a game full of ups and downs and several shooting woes. Angelo State opened the game with the game s first nine points for a 9-0 lead. Blair Taylor came off the bench to record LCU s first field goal and it came 3:55 into the game. They would go on to respond with a 14-0 run for a 14-9 lead with 9:28 to go in the half. Once taking a 9-0 lead, ASU hit an offensive dry spell. The Rambelles went a span of 10:49 without a field goal and were 0-of-16 during the span. Meanwhile, LCU was 6-of-8 shooting during the run and closed the half making 10-of-14 shots (71.4%). LCU out-scored ASU 31-7 once trailing 9-0 for a lead. The Lady Chaps held ASU to a 17.2% shooting percentage from the field. LCU produced seven of their 12 blocks in the opening half and out-scored ASU 20-4 in the paint. Three minutes into the second half, Tess Bruffey hit a field goal to give LCU a lead for their largest lead of the game. ASU did rally back. Jasmine Caston (12 points), Jackie Patterson (8 points) and Jasmine Patterson (6 points) were each held off the scoreboard in the opening half, but combined for 26 points in the second half. They helped ASU go on a 13-2 run and cut LCU s lead to with a little over nine minutes remaining in regulation. LCU was 0-of-7 from the field during the span of 5:10, but Taylor put an end to the run with a three-point play for a lead with 8:12 left. Haley Burton (13 points) and Haley Fowler (nine points) combined for 22 points in the second help and helped LCU close the contest out-scoring ASU over the final nine minutes. LCU out-scored ASU in the paint. Burton led all scorers with 15 points and was one of four Lady Chaps in double figures. Fowler and Bruffey each had 13 points and Allison Szabo chipped in 11 points. Bruffey, who had her first double-double in LCU s opener, collected her second of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Kellyn Schneider also had 11 rebounds and contributed four blocks for LCU. ASU, remaining winless (0-4), received a double-double from Amanda Weaver, who produced 12 points and 10 rebounds. ASU had Caston (12 points) and Shauna Coleman (11 points) assist the Rambelles offensive efforts. The Lady Chaps shot 42.3% (30/71) from the field, while ASU was 29.2% (19/65) in the game. LCU was 8-of-14 from the free-throw line (57.1%). It was the lowest free-throw shooting percentage by LCU since Nov.21, 2013 against Oklahoma Panhandle State. The eight free-throws made is their lowest made since they produced eight on Feb 21, 2013 against Science & Arts of Oklahoma. LCU finished the game with 12 blocks. It marks the second consecutive game in which LCU has produced 10 or more blocks. They had only registered 10 or more blocks in a game once under 12th-year Steve Gomez s coaching rein prior to Saturday. 28 71 73 (ot) GAME:5 TARLETON STATE AT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Nov. 28, Lubbock, Texas LUBBOCK, Texas (November 28, 2014) History still sits in favor of Tarleton State University. Lubbock Christian University s Tess Bruffey broke the program single-game blocks mark with nine blocks and teammate Allison Szabo produced her first career double-double with career highs in points (16) and rebounds (10), but it was overshadowed by Tarleton s Kathy Thomas, who was 7-of-7 from three-point range and produced 25 points to help the TexAnns break a program single game three-point shooting mark and hold off LCU in overtime Friday night at Rip Griffin Center in the opening night of the Lowe s Market Thanksgiving Classic. LCU not only falls to 2-20 all-time against Tarleton, but the loss ended an 18-game win streak at home, which entered the day as the third longest active home win streak in NCAA Div. II. Their last home loss came on Jan. 10, The shooting performance by Thomas, who was 2-of-11 from long range on the season entering the game, was one of the most prolific seen by a Lady Chaps opponent. Of opposing individual game-by-game records on file dating back to the season, no opposing player had ever knocked down seven three-pointers against LCU. The University of Iowa transfer not only scored a career high 25 points but also had seven of the team s 13 three pointers. Meagan O Dell was 4-of-6 and Lubbock Coronado High School product Bailey Wipff was 2-of-3 to help out the program single-game record. It was the most three-pointers knocked down by a LCU opponent since Southern Nazarene hit 14 three-pointers on Jan. 31, They were 13-of-21 to go 61.9% from long range, which is the best shooting mark from long range by a Lady Chaps opponent since Metro State went 6-of-9 (66.7%) on Nov. 15, Bruffey s mark will not get the honor it deserves. The nine blocks broke LCU s single-game mark of eight, which was matched Saturday (LCU s prior home game) by Kellyn Schneider and originally set by Suzanne Copeland on Feb. 12, Bruffey, the freshman who also added eight rebounds and seven points, helped LCU produce 10 team blocks. It marks the third consecutive game LCU has produced at least 10 blocks. That had only been completed once prior to the three games over the prior 11 coaching seasons for LCU head coach Steve Gomez. Focusing on the game itself, it was a thrilling game. Each squad shot over 40% from the field (LCU: 25/61, 41% / TSU: 26/58, 44.8%), neither team had more than a four-point lead after the half and the game included seven lead changes and the score tied on nine occasions. The game was tied at the end of the half and at the end of regulation. The game was even tied in the final minute, but with less than 25 seconds left, an O Dell missed three-pointer deflected off a Lady Chaps player and while trying to save the ball from going out of bounds, the ball was directed to the feet of Karli Moore, who was Johnny-on-the-spot for an easy bucket to take the lead and leaving LCU with 17 seconds to answer. The final 17 seconds was a scramble for LCU. After a timeout to design a play, the drawn up play was negated by clutch defense, and a loose ball out of bounds set up another timeout and an inbounds play with less than three seconds remaining. The ball was inbounded to Haley Burton, who attempted a three-point field goal for the win, but the shot was no good off the front of the rim. The game was LCU s first overtime contest since Jan. 16 of last season at St. Edward s and their first loss in overtime since Dec. 2, 2010 at Mid-America Christian. They fall to 3-2 on the season, while Tarleton, making their first visit to Lubbock since Feb. 17, 1994, improved to 3-1 on the season. Tarleton s outside shooting was so solid, it trumped some of the statistics that LCU posted. LCU won the turnover department 23-21, leading to a advantage in points off turnovers. They also out-rebounded an opponent for the first time this season (38-32), with a 13-7 advantage in offensive rebounds leading to a 16-5 scoring advantage in second chance points. Despite several misses inside the paint, LCU still outscored the TexAnns in the paint. The Lady Chaps also had nine more points (17-8) than TSU from the line. All those LCU highlights washed away by Tarleton outscoring LCU from beyond the arc. LCU was 4-of-16 (25.0%) from long range. It is the third consecutive game in which LCU s outside shooting percentage was 25% or less. They shot 25% or less from three-point range twice last season and have not had a three-game stretch of its kind since the final three games of the season. Burton, who is three three-pointers away from cracking into the top five in LCU career history, was 0-of-5 from long range, marking only the second time in her career she was unsuccessful on at least five attempts in a game (Feb. 28, 2013 marked the only prior time in her career). Haley Fowler and Szabo s performances were also overshadowed. They each had career high performances, as Fowler was 7-of-10 from the field and produced 19 points, while Szabo supplied her first and the program s fourth double-double of the season (in five games). Along with Thomas career high, TSU received 13 points each from Karli Moore and Ikpeaku Iwobi and 12 points from Meagan O Dell GAME:6 EASTERN NEW MEXICO AT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Nov. 29, Lubbock, Texas LUBBOCK, Texas (November 29, 2014) Lubbock Christian University set a program singlegame record in shooting percentage with a 69.2% shooting mark, as seven players produced double figures and all 12 players that touched the floor for LCU figured into the scoring of a victory over Eastern New Mexico to close play in the Lowe s Market Thanksgiving Classic Saturday at Rip Griffin Center. All 12 players that touched the floor for LCU played at least 10 minutes and they combined to go 36-of-52 (69.2%) from the field. LCU was 77.4% (24/31) in the first half alone, leading to a halftime lead. They also produced defensively, holding ENMU to a 22.6% (7/31) shooting mark in the first half. Ironically, the last time LCU held an opponent to 19 points or less in a first half was Jan. 6, 2014 at Eastern New Mexico (17 points). The 69.2% shooting mark broke the prior team record of 68.5% (37/54) set at the NAIA National Tournament against Georgetown (Kent.) on Mar. 15, Seven different players made it to the free-throw line for LCU and they combined to go 95% from the line, missing one shot on 20 attempts. Allison Szabo led the pace, going 8-for-8 from the line. The Lady Chaps outscored ENMU in the paint and 25-3 in points off turnovers. They assisted on 24 of 36 field goals, with Blair Taylor (five), Haley Fowler (five) and Haley Burton (six) assisting with at least five assists. LCU surged early, going on a 24-3 run a minute into the contest to place the score at 27-5 with over 12 minutes remaining in the opening half. The Lady Chaps were 11-of-12 from the field during the run. LCU led as much as 54 points (84-30 with 8:10 remaining) in the second half. Callie Sandusky produced a career-high 13 points to co-lead LCU offensively with Burton. Hannah Harbin (12 points), Kellyn Schneider (11 points), Bailey Haist (11 points), Blair Taylor (10 points) and Szabo (10 points) joined Burton and Sandusky in double figures. No LCU player played more than 23 minutes. ENMU did have some positive numbers despite the lopsided result. Texico, Texas twins Jaylyn Cooper (3-of-7) and Jordyn Cooper (3-of-5) combined to go 6-of-12 from three-point range. Jordyn led ENMU with 11 points. Things turned scary with under six minutes remaining, as Jasmine Johnson, who had a game-high 11 rebounds, suffered a head/neck injury and was transported to a local hospital resulting in a 15-minute delay. The 52-point victory was LCU s largest margin of victory since a 67-point win over Arlington Baptist on Nov. 20, It was the second consecutive time LCU responded from a loss to Tarleton State with a victory of 50-or-more points. The 101 points marks the 13th time LCU has reached at least 100 points in a game under Steve Gomez s coaching tenure and it is the 22nd time overall in program history. 29 58 53 GAME:7 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN AT TEXAS WOMAN S Dec. 3, Denton, Texas DENTON, Texas (December 3, 2014) Allison Szabo recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and teammate Haley Fowler had a game high 16 points to help lead Lubbock Christian University to a win over Texas Woman s University Wednesday night at Kitty Magee Arena to extend LCU s road win streak to 17 games, which leads all NCAA Div. II active road win streaks. LCU used a 9-0 run midway through the first half to turn a deficit into a lead. TWU, who had a 9-4 lead early on, went on an offensive dry spell. After going on a string of hitting five of six shot attempts, the Pioneers went on a binge of missing 12 consecutive shots while LCU was on their run. They would end up closing the half and the opening shot of the second half going 3-of-21 (14.3 %). Combined with 10 turnovers on TWU (in the half), LCU led at the break. TWU was held to a 26.7% (8/30) shooting mark in the first half. The Lady Chaps were able to build the lead to 12 and led by the margin as late as with 8:30 remaining (46-34). Fowler was a big factor to the 12-point advantage, as she had 13 of her 16 points in the second half. TWU would rally back late. After LCU s defense held TWU to a 2-of-12 shooting span midway through the second half, the Pioneers responded knocking down five of their next six attempts. It led to a 12-5 run, while their defense held LCU to three field goals in the final six minutes. TWU moved within and had a free-throw attempt with 2:29 to go, but Kenesha Saygo s free-throw attempt was missed and LCU answered with an old-fashioned three-point play by Szabo to lead with 2:11 to play. TWU never got within five points of LCU s lead the rest of the way. TWU was unable to capitalize on second chance opportunities. The Pioneers, out-rebounding LCU 41-36, had 18 offensive rebounds, but only had seven points off second chance opportunities. LCU had a scoring advantage in the paint and had nine blocks. Tess Bruffey produced five blocks and Kellyn Schneider had four. LCU was 41.3% (19/46) from the field and held TWU to 28.6% (18/63). LCU improves to 5-2 on the season and they are 3-1 all-time against Texas Woman s University. It was their first win at Kitty Magee Arena and their first visit since Nov.1, 2010, which was Haley Burton s first game in a LCU uniform. TWU had their two-game win streak interrupted and they fall to GAME:8 McMURRY AT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Dec. 6, Lubbock, Texas LUBBOCK, Texas (December 6, 2014) Lubbock Christian University had three starters held scoreless, but received 54 points from their bench, including a career high 23 points from Allison Szabo, to defeat McMurry University Saturday afternoon in nonconference play inside Rip Griffin Center. Szabo nearly notched a Rip Griffin Center record in the win, going 9-for-9 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. The arena record is based on a 10 attempt minimum and the record is an 11-of-12 performance by Brittany Blackmon on Nov. 10, The 9-of-9 shooting performance was the best by any Lady Chaps member since Steve Gomez has served as LCU head coach (in his 12th season). Szabo produced her career-high totals in 26 minutes of work. LCU received balance production outside of points. They assisted on 26 of 30 field goals, with eight players contributing at least one assist. Haley Burton (seven) and Kellyn Schneider (six) combined for 13 assists. LCU produced 11 blocks, with eight different players contributing at least one block. Tess Bruffey led LCU with four. Only two of LCU s starting five players produced a point. Haley Fowler (10 points) and Bruffey (12 points) were the only Lady Chaps starters to produce offensively. The additional three starters went 0-of-14 from the field, meaning the team s remainder shot 68.1% (30/44) from the field. LCU s bench out-scored McMurry s bench 54-9, as the Lady Chaps bench accounted for 71% of the team s offense. Six of seven of LCU s reserves produced at least a point. Along with Szabo s career output, LCU s Bailey Haist matched a career high with four three-pointers and 14 points. Haist (4-of-6), Ashton Meeks (2-of-2) and Claire Bruffey (2-of-4) came off the bench to combine for 8-of-12 (66.7%) shooting from three-point range. The rest of the team was 0-of-9 from long range. The game opened with a less than stellar opening four minutes, as the two teams combined to go 1-of-11 from the field, with Fowler producing the only bucket during the span. LCU would then knock down four consecutive shots and build an 11-0 lead with 14:27 left in the half. Mc- Murry responded with a quick 7-0 run over the following two minutes to cut the LCU lead to The War Hawks got as close as with 9:46 remaining before LCU went on an 11-2 run to garner some breathing room. LCU outscored McMurry 25-9 over the final 10:14 of the first half for a halftime lead. The Lady Chaps went on a 12-2 run early in the second half and never led by less than 21 points over the final 9:27. The Lady Chaps shot 51.7% (15/29) in each half and was 30-of-58 in the game. They held McMurry to a 25% (16/64) shooting mark in the game. It marks the third consecutive game in which LCU has held an opponent to shoot less than 30%, which is the first time the Lady Chaps have completed the three-game task under Gomez s coaching tenure. They have held their opponents under 30% from the field in five of the last six games played. McMurry fell to 1-8 with the loss. The War Hawks, playing their seventh road game of the season, received 13 points from Adijatu Disu and 11 points from Keesha Bracy in the loss. 30 71 73 (ot) GAME:5 TARLETON STATE AT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Nov. 31 70 73 GAME:9 LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN AT MIDWESTERN STATE Dec. 13, Wichita Falls, Texas WICHITA FALLS, Texas (December 13, 2014) Tess Bruffey set the Lubbock Christian University singlegame blocks record with 10 denials, Hayley Fowler produced a career high 24 points and Hayley Burton notched her second career double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds), but the performances were not good enough to keep the NCAA Div. II s longest active road winning streak alive. No.24 Midwestern State used 22 offensive rebounds and an 87% (20/23) free-throw percentage to hold on for a win over LCU Saturday night at Ligon Coliseum, ending LCU s 17-game road win streak. Losing in Wichita Falls was a trend the Lady Chaps were trying to buck. LCU, now 0-14 all-time against Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, was playing their 27th all-time meeting against MSU, but their first since Feb. 12, Back then, the two teams were NAIA regional foes and the Mustangs were still known as the Indians. LCU had to rally back Saturday night for the opportunity to end that Wichita Falls skid and to attempt to keep MSU from garnering their 11th straight win in the all-time series. Midwestern State had their largest lead at with 9:29 remaining in the contest. LCU went on an 11-4 run over the next five minutes to pull within They were 5-of-5 from the field during the stretch, with Fowler producing two of the field goals. They could have produced a better run, but they committed six turnovers during the span. Meanwhile, MSU closed the game making three of their last 10 field goal attempts and going without a field goal over the final 2:03. The made field goal, by Dianna Jones, provided MSU a lead. Fowler split a trip to the free-throw line and Bailey Haist had a baseline lay-up to cut the deficit to with 15 seconds to go. They fouled Jones with nine seconds left and she made both free-throws to extend the MSU lead to LCU had an opportunity to produce a three-point shot to force overtime but they never got a three-point shot off. The Lady Chaps trailed at halftime after MSU closed the half outscoring LCU 16-7 over the final seven minutes, including a 9-2 run over the half s final three minutes. There were four lead changes in the first half, with LCU never leading by more than three points. In the paint, LCU outscored MSU and had 15 blocks. The 15 blocks is the highest block total for LCU under head coach Steve Gomez s coaching reign at LCU (in his 12th season) and it was two blocks off the program s single game record of 17 from Feb. 19, 1991 (vs. Hardin-Simmons). The 15 blocks sets a new Heartland Conference record (prior high was 14). Bruffey not only topped her prior and school single-game record of nine, but also broke the Heartland Conference single-game record. The mark matches the most produced in NCAA Div.II this season (two other players have completed the task nationally). Bruffey missed out on an impactful stat line, as she had eight points and eight rebounds to go along with her 10 blocks. Burton was an assist shy of a career high with 10 assists in recording her first double-double of the season. Fowler went 11-of-14 from the field and had six boards and four assists in her career scoring night (prior career high was 19). MSU, improving to 8-1 on the season and matching their best nine-game start in program history, registered 22 offensive rebounds, leading to a 19-3 scoring edge in second chance scoring. Andrea Carter produced a double-double for MSU with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jones led MSU in scoring with 24 points. The Mustangs excelled at the charity stripe, going 20-of-23 from the line (87%). It was the best shooting performance from the line by an LCU opponent shooting at least 20 attempts since Southern Nazarene was 91.9% (34/37) on Mar. 4, The Lady Chaps were 49.1% (27-55) from the field in the game and held MSU to 36.9% (24/65) from the field. LCU was 2-of-6 (33.3%) from three-point range. The two three-point field goals were the least since Nov. 5, 2011 (vs. Metro State), and the six attempts is the fewest attempted under Gomez s coaching tenure GAME:10 TEXAS A&M INTERNATIONAL AT LUBBOCK CHRISTIAN Dec. 18, Lubbock, Texas LUBBOCK, Texas (December 18, 2014) Kellyn Schneider recorded her first double-double as a member of Lubbock Christian University, with 14 rebounds and 12 points, and LCU produced 59 rebounds en route to an victory over Texas A&M International in each team s Heartland Conference opener Thursday night inside Rip Griffin Center. The Lady Chaps were coming into the contest following a loss Saturday at No.24 Midwestern State in which they attempted six three-point field goals, which was the lowest amount attempted by the Lady Chaps under head coach Steve Gomez s coaching tenure (12th season). They fired up 30 long distance shots Thursday and knocked down 13 of them (43.3%). Seven different Lady Chaps had at least one three-pointer. LCU opened the game making their first seven three-point field goal attempts. The mark spanned the opening 10 minutes of the game and capped a lead for LCU. LCU opened the game on a 9-0 run and led 20-5 six minutes into the contest. LCU led as much as in the opening half and took a lead into the break. They were 51.9% (14/27) from the field in the half and 61.5% (8/13) from long range. Tess Bruffey rung in the second half with a three-pointer 11 seconds into the half and LCU never took their foot off the pedal. LCU led as much as 29 points in the second half and never had their lead drop under a 19 point advantage. With the outcome never in doubt, LCU relied on their bench much of the second half. Schneider, a Texas Tech transfer, recorded a career high in points (12) and added 14 rebounds for her first double-double since joining the Lady Chaps. She completed the task in 21 minutes of playing time. Allison Szabo also added 12 rebounds to help LCU to their season high 59 rebounds. The 59 rebounds was three shy of tying the Rip Griffin Center record. Four Lady Chaps produced double figures in points, with Haley Burton and Bruffey each scoring 16 points (Bruffey matched a career high). Haley Fowler joined Schneider with 12-point outputs. Burton also contributed 8 assists. LCU was an impressive 90.9% from the free-throw line, going 20-of-22 from the line. They went 13-for-13 as a team in the opening half and out-scored TAMIU 13-0 from the line in the half. TAMIU had a hard time taking advantage of the opportunities once they received them, as they were 9-of-16 (56.3%) from the line in the game. The high score of the night went to TAMIU s Jessica Prieto, who registered 22 points. They also received 15 points from Keiona Mathews despite a 0-for-6 shooting lull from three-point range. TAMIU, who played disciplined with only six turnovers, fell to 0-5 on their active six-game road trip and they drop to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in conference. The Lady Chaps are now 2-0 all-time in Heartland Conference openers and 11-1 all-time in conference openers under Gomez. LCU opens the conference season 1-0 and they are 7-3 overall this season. They extended their conference win streak to 24 consecutive games and are 21-0 all-time in Heartland Conference play.
