1 Issue Date: Monday, Dec. 10, 2007 BRONCOS VISIT TEXANS FOR THURSDAY NIGHT NFL NETWORK GAME The Denver Broncos travel to Houston this week to take on the Texans in a Thursday night game featuring two 6-7 clubs battling for a playoff berth. Kickoff at Reliant Stadium is set for 7:15 p.m. CST, and the contest will be televised on NFL Network. Behind a career-high four touchdown passes from Jay Cutler and a defense that produced three takeaways while yielding just 129 total yards (2.5 per play), the Broncos earned a 41-7 victory against the Chiefs at home on Sunday. The 34-point win was the largest by Denver in its 95-game regular-season series with Kansas City and gave it its first season sweep against the Chiefs since Denver s game in Houston on Thursday is its fifth road game in the last seven weeks and marks the third consecutive season the Broncos will play on a Thursday. The Texans defeated Tampa Bay at home last week and are coached by Gary Kubiak, who spent 11 seasons ( ) as the Broncos offensive coordinator after playing quarterback for the club from While they have only faced the Texans once in the regular season, earning a win in that 2004 contest in Denver, the Broncos are set to play Houston for the fifth year in a row this week including preseason action. During the last five weeks, the Broncos have forced an NFL-best 15 takeaways that have helped them tie for second in the league in turnover ratio (+7) over that span. Denver s pass defense has been among the league s stingiest of late with the club surrendering the second-fewest passing yards in the league (160.3) in the last three weeks. Offensively, Cutler owns the fourth-highest yards per pass attempt average (7.92) in the NFL and enters Thursday s game needing 158 passing yards to record the first 3,000-yard season of his career. Rookie running back Selvin Young ranks second in the league in yards per rush (5.7), and his 569 rushing yards this year make him the sixth undrafted rookie in NFL history to reach the 500-yard mark.
