The Lady Demons fell to then -No. 14 Texas, 86-39, on Nov. 23. Senior guard Beatrice Attura has scored in double figures in all 10 games this season, including a 19-point performance against Louisiana College on Dec. 20 that included her 1,000th career point. The matchup with the Bulldogs marks the second Southeastern Conference opponent of the season for Northwestern State, which fell to Arkansas, 65-36, on Dec. 18. The Lady Demons rank sixth nationally in free-throw percentage, sinking 79.6 percent of their charity shots. Tonight s game marks the farthest east will play in the regular season. In the most recent meeting, the Bulldogs downed the Lady Demons, 65-49, four years ago today. NEW MISSISSIPPI STATE AD HAS DEEP NORTHWESTERN STATE TIES First-year Mississippi State Director of Athletics John Cohen is deeply tied to. Cohen landed his first head coaching job in Natchitoches, skippering the Demons for four seasons ( ) and becoming the third straight NSU coach to become a head baseball coach in the Southeastern Conference, following Jim Wells (Alabama) and Dave Van Horn (Arkansas). In his four seasons at the helm of the NSU program, Cohen compiled a mark and two Southland Conference championships. Cohen s.635 winning percentage ranks third all-time in school history behind Wells (192-89,.683) and Jack Clayton ( ,.656). FINAL PRE-CHRISTMAS GAME FULL OF GIFTS, HISTORY In front of six former Lady Demons players and managers on Dec. 20, senior guard Beatrice Attura and her teammates put on a show not seen in Prather Coliseum in 30 years. Attura notched her 1,000th career point on a first-quarter layup against Louisiana College, but that was just the start of a record-setting night. s win marked the most points the Lady Demons had scored in a game since a win against Arkansas Baptist during the season and the 48-point margin of victory was the largest since a win against Southern-New Orleans in Individually, in addition to Attura becoming the 27th player in program history to top 1,000 points, sophomore Gabby Jackson (12) and freshman Nia Randall (8) tallied career-high scoring totals. MEMORABLE FIRST FOR DUPUY First-year head coach Jordan Dupuy prefers his teams to play up-tempo and to get off to a quick start. Dupuy's Lady Demons debut certainly followed both tenets. NSU defeated LeTourneau, 80-68, on Nov. 11, making Dupuy the fourth straight Lady Demons coach to emerge victorious in his or her first game. The way the Lady Demons won the game stood in contrast to how they operated in previous seasons. In the season, topped 80 points four times in 31 games. The Lady Demons' 78 fieldgoal attempts were five more than NSU attempted in any game this past season, and their 14 steals tied the season high. YOUTH, EXPERIENCE MESH ON LADY DEMONS' STAFF As Jordan Dupuy begins his first year as a collegiate head coach he brought with him a fully new coaching staff, one that ranks among the youngest in the nation. Between Dupuy, associate head coach Deneen Parker and assistants Erin Crane and Olivia Grayson, the coaching staff holds a combined age of 133. Research from Belmont University showed the youngest staff in Division I a season ago was Houston Baptist (118). NSU's total age of 133 would have ranked it around ninth nationally.

After suffering a broken nose and a concussion in preseason workouts, Brown lost valuable practice time getting acquainted with first-year coach Jordan Dupuy's playing style. Brown did not start the first two games of the season, but produced 14 points and six rebounds in the Nov. 11 season opener against LeTourneau and followed that with a career-best 20 points and 10 rebounds against LSU-Alexandria, marking her second career double-double. She returned to the starting lineup against Central Baptist College. In her fifth game back in the starting lineup, Brown tied a career high with 20 points in NSU's win against ULM on Dec. 4. BROWN HONORED BY LSWA, SOUTHLAND A career-best performance by Cheyenne Brown delivered the first weekly honors of the sophomore s career. Brown s 27-point, 12-rebound double-double in a Dec. 11 win against Jackson State earned her Player of the Week awards from both the Southland Conference and the Louisiana Sports Writers Association on Dec. 12. They were the first weekly awards of the season for a Lady Demon and the first since Janelle Perez swept the same honors on Feb. 15, TWO TWENTY PIECES PLEASE Beatrice Attura and Cheyenne Brown have each topped 20 points in a game three times this season - against LSU-Alexandria on Nov. 19, against ULM on Dec. 4 and against Jackson State on Dec. 11. NSU is 3-0 in those games. Prior to NSU s win against LSUA, the most recent time two Lady Demons each crossed the 20-point plateau in a game was when Attura (26) and Janelle Perez (24) did so in a Southland Conference Tournament semifinal win against Lamar on March 14, Attura scored 24 points against LSUA while Brown added 20. Against ULM, Attura led the Lady Demons with 21 points while Brown matched her then-career high of 20. In NSU s win against Jackson State on Dec. 11, Brown delivered a career-best 27 points and tied a career high with 12 rebounds while Attura dropped in a season-best 26 points. MILLER TAKES VALLEY TO BOARDING SCHOOL Freshman Victoria Miller took advantage of foul trouble to turn in one of the best rebounding performances by a Lady Demon in recent history. Miller grabbed 16 rebounds - seven offensive - in 23 minutes during 's loss to Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 25. NATCHITOCHES With approximately half a dozen women s basketball alumni in attendance at Prather Coliseum, the Lady Demons honored their lineage in an appropriate way Tuesday night. On a milestone night for senior guard Beatrice Attura, blitzed visiting Louisiana College , piling up the most points by a Lady Demons team in 30 years. There were going to be a lot more points scored because of the pace we wanted to play, first-year coach Jordan Dupuy said. There were a lot more possessions. We created more tempo, which is what we wanted. We created 33 turnovers. Our shooting percentage was very good. There were a lot of positives, but there were things we need to improve if we re going to contend for a conference championship. Attura needed 10 points to become the 27th Lady Demon to reach the 1,000-point mark for her career, and she did it quickly. Attura sparked a sizzling first-quarter offensive performance, hitting all three of her field-goal attempts, including a pair of 3-pointers, as (6-4) shot 76.9 percent in the opening 10 minutes. Attura s layup with 2:12 to go in the opening stanza helped her join former teammates Janelle Perez and Keisha Lee among NSU s 1,000-point scorers and did so in front of former Lady Demons Pat Nolen Pierson, Joan Darbonne Austin, Teresa Williams Sauce, Teresa Long Roark, Tracy Willis Bertrand and former manager Vern Guidroz. The alumni met with the team following the game, sharing their experiences with the current Lady Demons. I wasn t really thinking about it, Attura said. It doesn t matter to me all that much. It s a nice milestone to have. I was just trying to play my game, do what I do and follow the game plan. It s amazing to hear their stories from when they played. It was a very special. They didn t necessarily come for me, but it was special because they paved the way for us to do what we do now. Those ladies were some of the first women s players to receive a scholarship in Louisiana, and it s special to have them come support us. forced a season-high 33 turnovers and turned them into 45 points. The Lady Demons also owned a advantage in points in the paint. Louisiana College, which played the game as an exhibition, managed 25 offensive rebounds and won the battle on the boards by three. Buoyed by the extra possessions, five Lady Demons scored in double figures, led by Attura s 19 points. Eleven of the 12 Northwestern State players scored in the game and 10 players recorded at least one steal as NSU notched a season-best 21 steals. Attura paced the Lady Demons with 19 points while Shahd Abboud added 16. Cheyenne Brown and Gabby Jackson each added 12 while Sami Thomas chipped in 11. I was thinking about defense first, said Jackson, who established a career high in points in the first double-figure scoring game of her career. Start there and work your way to offense. It helped me calm down, get in the game and do what I m good at. Attura added a game-high six assists and five steals, expanding her team lead in those categories. I didn t want her to worry about the milestone, Dupuy said. I knew she d get it within the team concept. It was great to have our fans here to recognize her. The bench was excited for her. That s out of the way, and now it s time for her to keep playing and put up more points. Brooke Comeaux led three Lady Wildcats in double figures with 12 points. The 113 points were s most since tallying 122 in a victory against Arkansas Baptist during the season when they were coached by Pierson. The 48-point margin of victory was NSU s largest since a victory against Southern-New Orleans on Dec. 4, NSU never shot below 45 percent in any quarter, finishing with a season-best 57.4-percent shooting (39-for-68). The Lady Demons entered the game as the 13th-best free-throw shooting team in the nation and saw that number rise, hitting 27 of 31 from the line (87.1 percent). FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas A tale of two halves has become a storyline for the women s basketball team away from home in the season. It happened against Sunday afternoon at Arkansas. played its best basketball in the final 20 minutes, but the Lady Demons were unable to overcome a slow start, falling to the Razorbacks at Bud Walton Arena. As we were walking off the floor, (Arkansas) coach (Jimmy) Dykes said, Y all kicked our butts in the second half, which was nice, first-year head coach Jordan Dupuy said. That means a lot, but what makes it frustrating is we waited to the second half to realize what we can do on the floor. If we understand going into the game what we re capable of and believe in ourselves, there s no reason we couldn t have been in the fourth quarter with a chance to pull it out. The Lady Demons (5-4) shook off 25-percent shooting in the first half to play a much better second half. NSU finished the game shooting 25 percent, but the lady Demons played one of its best road quarters of the season in the third quarter. The Lady Demons scored 14 of the first 21 points of the third quarter, outscoring their first-half total of 13 before the third-quarter media timeout. We finally implemented what we wanted to do on both ends of the floor in the second half, Dupuy said. We played a very good SEC to within one point in the second half. They have a great inside presence and are bigger and stronger, but when we do what we re asked to do, we can be a very good team, too. Our girls have to realize that not when the second half starts but when we walk out before the opening tip. That s the next step for this team to take. Jessica Jackson scored 17 of her game-high 23 points in the first half, including a banked-in 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer that pushed Arkansas lead to at the break. Starting with Cheyenne Brown s high-low feed to Shahd Abboud to begin the second half, NSU played with a different purpose. Abboud finished with 11 points, all of which came in the second half, sharing team-leading honors with Beatrice Attura, who knocked down s only two 3-pointers of the game. Attura s first 3 of the game moved her into a tie for 10th on the NSU career list, a spot she shared with former teammate Chelsea Rogers.

5 ATTURA EARNS PRESEASON HONOR After capturing the Southland Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player award as a sophomore, Beatrice Attura used that momentum to turn in a career-best season as a junior in Attura was second on the Lady Demons in scoring a season ago, averaging a career-best 13.7 points per game. For her efforts, she was named second-team Preseason All-Southland Conference. Attura was NSU s only representative on either the first or second team. BEA CROSSES THE CENTURY MARK When senior guard Beatrice Attura hits a 3-pointer at home, public address announcer Hunter Horton punctuates the moment with the call of "Bea... for three!" When Attura connected on a 3-pointer with 4:08 to play in the first quarter of NSU's win against Central Baptist on Nov. 21, it gave her 100 for her career. Attura currently has 122 career 3s, ranking her 10th in school history, one ahead of former teammate Chelsea Rogers. Attura played with three of NSU's all-time top-11 3-point shooters - Rogers, Keisha Lee (9th, 127) and Janelle Perez (1st, 223). ABBOUD LOOKING FOR COMPLETE GAME Senior guard Shahd Abboud has seen some wild swings within games this season. Four times in s first nine games, Abboud has scored all of her points in one half of the game. Against Jackson State, she followed a one-point first half with 11 points in the second half of NSU s win. At Memphis on Nov. 30, Abboud scored all nine of her points in the final quarter. GILLIAM GETS THE STARTING CALL FOR THE FIRST TIME Sophomore forward Libba Gilliam appeared in 20 games, all as a reserve, in her first season in Natchitoches. With a strong preseason performance, Gilliam found herself in the starting lineup in the season opener against LeTourneau on Nov. 11, and she responded well to her new role. Despite playing 13 minutes because of foul trouble, Gilliam scored a career-best six points and grabbed a career-high six rebounds. DEBUT DAYS FOR FRESHMAN QUINTET 's roster is composed of seven returners and five newcomers, all five of which are freshmen. All five made their college debuts in 's season-opening win against LeTourneau. Point guard Gabby Bell led the freshman class with seven points while swiping five steals and handing out four assists in 16 minutes. Forward/center Victoria Miller added five points and blocked a shot while forward Jocelyn Scott added four points. Guard Nia Randall and forward Jasmyn Johnson also made their first appearances in a Lady Demons uniform. Both Johnson and Randall scored their first career points during NSU's win against Central Baptist on Nov. 21. Randall earned the assist on Johnson's first bucket, a fast-break layup. It also was the first assist of Randall's career. Miller and Scott became the first members of NSU's 2016 signing class to draw starts as each were on the floor to begin NSU's Nov. 30 matchup at Memphis. ATTURA COULD MAKE MORE PROGRAM HISTORY As 's lone four-year senior, Beatrice Attura has enjoyed being part of one of the longest extended runs of success for the Lady Demons, reaching the national postseason in all three of her seasons. Should the Lady Demons play beyond the Southland Conference Tournament in March, Attura would become the first NSU player to play in four straight national postseason events. She would join former teammates Presley Owens, Chelsea Rogers and Meghan Cross as Lady Demons who reached the postseason each year they were in uniform. Owens and Rogers reached the NCAA Tournament in each of their two seasons while Cross was part of an NCAA Tournament team and a WBI squad. PLENTY OF FACES SEE PLENTY OF TIME A season ago, eight Lady Demons averaged more than 10 minutes per game, accounting for 61.5 percent of the roster. Through five games, nine players averaged double-figure minutes, topped by Beatrice Attura's 31.8 minutes per game. All 12 players saw at least 10 minutes of playing time in a single game through the first four games of the year. POINTS APLENTY IN THE EARLY GOING 's new up-tempo style has shown on the scoreboard.
