The last trip to the Freedom Confernce championship for the Lady Monarchs came in 2009 against DeSales. King s fell to the Bulldogs. The Lady Monarchs have made one other trip to the finals under coach Brian Donoghue in the season and lost to Scranton King s last Freedom Conference crown came on March 1, 2003 when the Lady Monarchs defeated DeSales King s has only won the Freedom one other time in Last Time Out. The Lady Monarchs earned their way to the title game with a dramatic win over Eastern University. Samantha Simcox completed a 3-point play with 2 seconds left to win the game. Katlin Michaels scored 18 points all in the second half including five 3-pointers while Paige Carlin chipped in 17 points. Home Sweet Home. Scandlon Gymnasium has been kind to the King s this season as the Lady Monarchs have compiled a 12-0 record on their home court. King s is averaging 68.9 points per game which is 9.2 points per game more than on the road. King s is allowing just 56.4 points and have a +9.5 turnover margin on its home court. All-Conference Team. Three Lady Monarchs were tabbed as All-Freedom Conference selections. Junior Katlin Michaels was named to the first-team. Seniors Paige Carlin and Samantha Simcox were both selected as secondteam members. Defense wins championships. The Lady Monarchs have used strong defense to lift them to the Freedom s top seed. King s ranks second in the Freedom in scoring defense allowing just 56.5 points per game. In their 14 league games the Lady Monarchs are leading the conference giving up just 55.7 points per contest. King s is also a in turnover margin in league play tops in the conference and ranks 24th in the nation. Block Party. King s ranks second in the Freedom in in blocked shots with 96 swats in 25 games for an average of 3.7 per game. Freshman Marissa Manning has 34 of those blocks and ranks third in the conference with 1.4 stuffs per game. Cardiac Kids. The Lady Monarchs have gone 9-1 this season in games decided by seven points or less. The only loss in games decided by seven or less was on Nov. 19 at Rutgers-Newark. King s has also posted a 6-3 record when trailing at halftime including their two-point victory over Eastern in the conference semi-finals. The Series. Since the Cougars joined the Freedom Conference in the season the series has been very even including a split this season where the teams split. Misericordia handed the Lady Monarchs their only conference loss on Feb. 14 at the Anderson Center. King s has won the only playoff game between the two teams, 59-50, on Feb. 29, 2009.
