That year, Shanley defeated Bismarck High, BIARCK HIGH: The Demons (13-11 Overall; 9-9 WDA) had two players named to the All-WDA team in Jaycee Walter and Coral Gillette. TURY: The Patriots (25-2 Overall; 18-0 WDA) finished runner-up at the Class A Tournament to Fargo Shanley for a second straight season. Century and Shanley needed overtime to settle their battle. The Deacons on It was the fourth time in five seasons that Century had reached the championship. Century opened the tournament with a win over West Fargo and then defeated G.F. Red River, 55-41, in the semifinals. Against WF, three Patriot players were in double figures led by Jenna Fitterer s 17 points. Regan Dennis and Kourtney Selensky each had 16. Dennis had a team-high 13 rebounds while Fitterer had 10. Century led at halftime and led by has many as 20 in the second half. Century s reserves added 10 points. Against Red River, Century trailed early before getting its offense in gear en route to the win. Dennis had 18 points to pace the squad while Hannah Holtz added 13. Century led at halftime and extended its lead to 14 in the second half. Century went 16 of 19 from the free throw line while Red River was just 6-8. Against Shanley, Century trailed by as many as eight points in the second half but managed to rally and force overtime. Selensky led Century with 14 points. Lexi Brown had 13 and Dennis added 12. Century s bench reserves outscored Shanley s reserves, However, Shanley attempted 33 free throws, making 22. Century was just nine of 12 from the free throw. Regan Dennis and Kourtney Selensky were named to the all-tournament team. Dennis, Selensky and Jenna Fitterer were named to the all-wda team. JAMESTOWN: The Blue Jays (11-12 Overall; 10-8 WDA) had one player named to the all-wda team in Megan Gaffaney. ACY: The Sabers (2015: Overall; 11-7 WDA) ended their season at the Class A Tournament in Bismarck last week, dropping two games. Legacy was participating in its first state tournament. Legacy fell to G.F. Red River, 60-48, in the quarterfinals. The squad then lost to West Fargo, 72-52, in loser-out play. Against G.F. Red River, Mercedes Baumgartner led the team with 13 points and Brita Feland added 10. The Sabers fell behind early and never did recover. GFRR led at halftime and extended its lead to as many as 23 in the second half. Against WF, Whitney Thomas had a team-high 11 points. Legacy trailed at halftime and trailed by as many as 29 in the second half. The Sabers received 27 points from its bench reserves. Mercedes Baumgartner was named to the all-wda team. MANDAN: The Braves (17-10 Overall; 12-6 WDA) were the consolation champions at the Class A state tournament last week in Bismarck. Mandan defeated West Fargo, 71-69, in the fifth place game. Mandan opened the tournament with a loss to Wahpeton in the quarterfinals. The Braves then rebounded with a victory over Minot in loser-out play. The squad played the tournament without one of its key players, Mackensi Higlin, who was injured in the West Region Tournament. Against Wahpeton, Alicia Weiand had 17 points while Megan Zander added 10. Mandan trailed at halftime, but couldn t wrestle control in the second half. Wahpeton made 29 or 33 free throws while Mandan went to the line just 15 times, making nine. Against Minot, Kennedy Harris had a team-high 17 ponts while Weiand added 13. Mandan led at halftime and stretched its lead to as many as 11 points at one time in the second half. The squad received eight points from its bench reserves. Against WF, Weiand netted 17. Harris and Hannah Hanson added 15 and Courtney Olson chipped in with 11. Mandan trailed for much of the first half and were down at halftime. Weiand was named to the all-tournament team. Hanson, Harris and Mackensi Higlin had three players named to the all-wda team. OT: The Majettes (12-12 Overall; 9-9 WDA) ended their season after dropping two games at the Class A Tournament last week in Bismarck. Minot lost to eventual state champion Fargo Shanley, 53-48, in the quarterfinals before losing to WDA foe Mandan in loser-out play. Against Shanley, the Majettes rallied from a first half deficit to take a small lead against the top seeded Deacons with just under five minutes to play. However, Shanley, would regain the lead en route to victory. Cassie Askvig and Evie Reynolds both scored 18 points. Minot was 10 of 23 from three-point range. Against Mandan, Askvig finished with a team-high 20 points. Annika Arnold added 18. The Majettes trailed by as many as 11 points in the second half before cutting into the deficit. Cassie Askvig was a Miss Basketball finalist. She was named to all-tournament team and was an all-wda selection. ST. MARY S: The Saints (10-15 Overall; 7-11 WDA) had one player named to the all- WDA team in Sydney Smith. CHS (Belcourt): The Bravettes (15-9 Overall; 11-7 WDA) had two players named to the all-wda team in Ashley Davis and Syann Golus. LISTON: The Coyotes (5-17 Overall; 2-16 WDA) had one player named to the all- WDA team in Katie Nice.

Century is the West Region s top seed while Mandan is No. 2; Legacy, No. 3; and Minot, No. 4. Fargo Shanley is the defending state champion. Defending state champion Fargo Shanley has won its last 67 games...bismarck is hosting the Class A Tournament for the first time since Century qualified for its 14th straight Class A Tournament...Minot s Cassie Askvig was named region senior athlete of the year...century s Ron Metz and Jamestown s Andy Skunberg were named region co-coaches of the year. Against Mandan, Cara Haussler had nine points to pace the squad. Sadie Lone Bear had nine rebounds. Against CHS (Belcourt), the Demons trailed 17-1 before mounting a rally attempt. Haussler had a team-best 22 points. Casey finished with 12 and Jaycee Walter had 10. The Demons consecutive state tournament streak ended at five years. TURY: The Patriots (23-1 Overall; 18-0 WDA) will compete at this week s Class A Tournament, opening with a Thursday, March 10 quarterfinal against 4E West Fargo. Century finished runner-up last season. It s the team s 13th-straight state tournament appearance. Century extended its current winning streak to 20 following three wins at the West Region Tournament last week. The Patriots defeated St. Mary s, 68-53, in the quarterfinals and then topped No. 4 Legacy in the semifinals, 64-55, before holding off a strong Mandan team, 69-62, in the championship. Century was playing in its eight consecutive W. Region title game. Against, Kourtney Selensky s 16 points and 10 rebounds led the squad. Lexi Brown, 11; Hannah Holtz, 11; and Regan Dennis, 10 also were in double figures in points. Against Legacy, Dennis had a team-best 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jenna Fitterer had 15 points and Selensky had 12. Against Mandan, Dennis finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Holtz chipped in with 18 points and Fitterer finished with 15. Kourtney Selensky and Regan Dennis were named to the West Region All-Tournament team. Ron Metz was named region co-coach of the year. JAMESTOWN: The Blue Jays (11-12 Overall; 10-8 WDA) ended their season with a pair of losses at the West Region Tournament last week. Jamestown fell to No. 4 Legacy, 79-72, in the quarterfinals before falling to No. 8 St. Mary s, 75-62, in loser-out play. Against Legacy, Bailey Lamp had a team-high 20 points. Megan Gaffaney, 11; Courtney Peterson, 11; Emily Reiten, 10; Genna Bruns, 10; also were in double figures. Against St. Mary s, Lamp had 26 points. Gaffaney chipped in with 13. Bailey Lamp was named to the West Region All-Tournament team. Andy Skunberg was named region co-coach of the year. ACY: The Sabers (2015: 14-9 Overall; 11-7 WDA) will compete in its first-ever Class A state tournament this week. Legacy will face 2E G.F. Red River in a quarterfinal on Thursday, March 10., No. 4 seed Legacy posted a 2-1 record at the West Region Tournament, including a victory over No. 3 CHS (Belcourt) in a state qualifier. Legacy opened with a victory over No. 5 Jamestown before losing to eventual region champion Century, 64-55, in the semifinals. Against Jamestown, five Legacy players were in double figures. Mercedes Baumgartner had 21 points. Sydney Murphy and Whitney Thomas each netted 13. Kyla Schock had 12 and Brita Feland had 10. Feland also had 13 rebounds. Against Century, Feland scored a team-best 19 points and 12 rebounds. Baumgartner had 10 points. Thomas grabbed 10 rebounds. Legacy trailed at halftime. Against CHS, Baumgartner had 22 points. Thomas had 18 and Sydney Murphy netted 11. Legacy led by four points at halftime. Whitney Thomas and Mercedes Baumgartner were named to the West Region All- Tournament team. MANDAN: The Braves (15-9 Overall; 12-6 WDA) qualified for the Class A state tournament for the first time since Mandan will face E3 Wahpeton in a quarterfinal on Thursday, March 10., the Braves finished runner-up at the West Region Tournament. The squad defeated Bismarck High, 60-40, in the quarterfinals and then topped Minot, 55-46, in the semifinals. The Braves then lost a close, 69-62, decision to Century in the region title. Against, three players were in double figures led by Hannah Hanson s 13 points. Alicia Weiand had 11 points while Mackensi Higlin had 10 points. She also had a teamhigh 11 rebounds. Against Minot, Kenney Harris finished with 15 points. Higlin added 14. Mandan led after one half. Against Century, three players were in double figures led by Courntey Olson s 14 points. Miranda Lowman had 12 and Megan Zander 11. Mackensi Higlin and Hannah Hanson were named to the West Region All-Tournament team. OT: The Majettes (12-12 Overall; 9-9 WDA) will play in this week s Class A state tournament in Bismarck. Minot, the West Region s No. 4 seed, faces defending champion and E1 Fargo Shanley on Thursday, March 10. Minot posted a 2-1 record at last week s West Region Tournament. It topped No. 8 St. Mary s, 65-45, in a state qualifier. Minot defeated No. 3 CHS (Belcourt), 63-60, in the quarterfinals before dropping a semifinal game to No. 2 Mandan. Against CHS, Cassie Askvig had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Budeau chipped in with 12. Minot trailed by three at halftime. Against Mandan, Cassie Askvig finished 20 a game-high 20 points and 10 rebounds. Against, Askvig finished with a game-high 27 points and 16 rebounds. Kali Askvig had 12 points and Budeau finished with 11. Cassie Askvig was named to the West Region All-Tournament team. She was also named region senior athlete of the year. ST. CHS (Belcourt): The Bravettes (15-9 Overall; 11-7 WDA) ended their season at the West Region Tournament last week. CHS, the No. 3 seed, fell to No. 4 Legacy, 68-58, in a state qualifier. CHS were knocked off by No. 6 Minot in the opening round, It then rebounded with a victory over No. 7 Bismarck High in loser-out play. CHS led 17-1 early, but n needed to hold off the Demons late in the game. Against Minot, Ashley Davis had a game-high 22 points. Syann Golus added 20. CHS led at halftime. Against Legacy, Davis had 25 points and 10 rebounds. Faith Dionne added 18 points and 13 rebounds. Ashley Davis was named to the West Region All-Tournament team.

3 G BASKETBALL WEEKLY RELEASE - FEB. 29 Eight WDA teams will participate in this week s West Region Tournament at the Bismarck Event Center which begins on Thursday, March 3. Century is the top seed. Legacy will be making its first-ever appearance at the tournament. Four teams will advance to next week s Class A Tournament which is also in Bismarck. Century became the first team since Mandan in to complete the WDA regular season undefeated...state qualifiers last season were Century, Minot, CHS and Bismarck High...Of the eight teams in the tournament, St. Mary s has the longest state tournament drought (Last appearance 1998)...Of the 10 WDA teams, only Century posted a winning road recod in conf. play. St. Mary s extended its season with a regional play-in victory over Williston. INSON The Midgets (2-20 Overall; 1-17 WDA) ended their season with a loss to Bismarck High in a regional play-in game on 7, Dickinson failed to qualify for the West Region Tournament for the first time. Reagan Linster finished with 24 points. Megan Erickson added 13. Dickinson also dropped a decision to rival Williston in its regular season finale. Against Williston, Linster had a team-best 26 points. Jayde Lawlar, 17; Mariah Mortensen, 16; were in double figures. JAMESTOWN: The Blue Jays (11-10 Overall; 10-8 WDA) are the No. 5 seed at this week s West Region Tournament in Bismarck and will face No. 4 Legacy in a Thursday, March 3 quarterfinal. Jamestown did not make the tournament field a year ago. The squad lost both regular season meetings with Legacy., Jamestown concluded its regular season with a triumph over Mandan. 4 G BASKETBALL WEEKLY RELEASE - FEB. 22 The regular season will wrap up this Tuesday, and all 10 teams are in action. There is still plenty to decide as three teams are tied at 9-8 with one game to play. Later this week, two regional play-in games will be held involving the seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th place finishers.
