1 WEEKLY RELEASE - NOV. 2 Three WDA teams will have semifinal playoff games this week. In AAA games, Minot hosts WF Sheyenne while Century visits West Fargo on Nov. 6. St. Mary s, meanwhile, hosts region foe Beulah on Nov. 7 in AA play. Century and Minot are a combined 6-0 vs. EDC teams this season...the last time Minot hosted a AAA semifinal was St. Mary s has won its last seven AA playoff games...the 10 points scored by BHS was a season low...dickinson was held to just 86 yards of rushing in its game with WF Sheyenne...Fargo Davies ran 66 offensive plays to just 38 for Century. Century advanced to the AAA semifinals for the seventh time in the past eight seasons with a victory over Fargo Davies last week. BHS vaunted ground game was held down by the Packers, which avenged an early season loss to the Demons. WF led 14-3 at the half and stretched its lead to 21-3 before the Demons scored their lone TD, a 41-yard Connor Hellebust reception from Jordan Mann, in the fourth quarter. BHS leading rusher Jaxon Ford was held well below his season average. He finished with 75 yards. Mann led the squad with 86 yards. He also finished 11 for 22 for 124 yards passing. BHS entered the game winners of its last eight over the Packers and had not lost a quarterfinal game since Ironically, that was to WF. CENTURY: The No. 2 seeded Patriots (8-2 Overall; 5-2 WDA/AAA West Region) will play in their seventh semifinal in the past eight years, and first since 2013, when it visits EDC champion and East Region top seed West Fargo on Friday night, Nov. 6. The last time the teams met in the postseason was 2007, a quarterfinal triumph for Century. The Patriots last semifinal win came in 2012 (vs. F South). The Patriots defeated defending AAA champion Fargo Davies, 21-10, in the quarterfinals last week. Century s offense was held off the field for much of the game by the Eagles ball-controlling running attack. However, the Patriots managed some big plays at key times. QB Dalton Feeney was 7-18 for 142 yards and a pair of TD passes to receiver Adam Geiger. The second covered 66 yards on third down. Geiger had just three receptions. Feeney rushed for a team-best 49 yards and a score. The win was Century s second over Davies this season and improved its alltime record over the Eagles to 4-1. Century also posted a 6-0 record at home this season. DICKINSON: The No. 3 seeded Midgets (7-3 Overall; 5-2 WDA/AAA West Region) ended thier season with a quarterfinal loss to East Region No. 2 seed West Fargo Sheyenne on Oct. 30. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams. Dickinson was making its second consecutive quarterfinal appearance while the Mustangs were in the postseason for the first time. After getting down early, Dickinson s offense began to find its way in the second quarter but one play late in the quarter squashed the momentum. Sheyenne intercepted Dickinson QB Shawn Steffan and returned it 60 yards for a score in the final minute of the opening half. The deficit went from just five points to 12. Dickinson managed to trim the deficit to in the fourth quarter, but Sheyenne had an another answer. The Midgets defense held the Mustangs to just seven yards of passing, but it was WFS ground game that was the difference. It gained 391 yards. Steffan was 11 of 18 for 130 yards and three scores to three different receivers. Senior Michael McChesney had a team-best 63 yards on five receptions and a score. Jake Weidner and Austin Wollschlager also had TD catches. It was the sixth-straight playoff loss for the Midgets. Their last playoff win came in 2005, a preliminary round victory over Jamestown, MINOT: The No. 1 seed Magi (9-1 Overall; 6-1 WDA/AAA West Region) will host West Fargo Sheyenne, the East Region s No. 2 seed, in a semifinal on Friday, Nov. 6. A victory would advanced the Magi to the championship for a second consecutive year. That would be first for the program. The meeting with WF Sheyenne will also be a first. Minot is 6-0 at Duane Carlson Stadium., Minot needed a late-game rally to defeat East Region No. 4 seed Fargo South, Trailing with under three minutes to play, Minot recovered a Bruin fumble and senior QB Ben Bolinske guided Minot down the field, ending with a Austin Nagel 11-yard run in the final minute. The Magi enjoyed a 21-3 lead before South scored 21 unanswered points. Nagel rushed for 129 yards on 29 carries and three scores. Bolinske passed for just 88 yards, but picked up 59 yards rushing. The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak to Fargo South. It was also Minot s first playoff win over the Bruins since ST. MARY S: The Saints (9-1 Overall; 5-1 AA West Region) host West Region foe and No. 3 playoff seed Beulah on Saturday, Nov. 7 in the AA semifinals. Both teams enter the game with 9-1 records. The Miners handed the Saints their only loss this season (20-13) on Sept. 11. Beulah s lost came to Valley City. SM is the two-time defending state champion and can advance to its third consecutive Dakota Bowl with the win., St. Mary s won its seventh straight playoff game with a 53-0 shutout over East Region No. 4 seed Kindred. It was the first-ever meeting between the teams. SM racked up 369 yards of rushing, senior running back Jacob Heinert gained 175 yards and four first half scores. The Saints defense held the Vikings to minus yards rushing and pitched their first shut out of the season. Since it s loss to Beulah, the Saints have given up an average of just seven points. 2 WEEKLY RELEASE - OCT. 26 The postseason begins this week for AAA and AA with quarterfinal rounds. The AAA will have its games on Friday, Oct. 30 while AA takes the field on Halloween. Williston played its final game at Cutting Field and will move into its new turf field at its new high school next year...mandan earned its first winning season since TMCHS (Belcourt) s 22 points against Central Dakota was a seasonhigh...three of Legacy s nine losses were three points or less...st. Mary s won the tiebreaker over Beulah and Valley City for the AA West Region top seed. Valley City earned the No. 2 seed by its head-tohead win over Beulah...The last time BHS finished fourth in the WDA/AAA was Minot earned its first AAA/WDA title since 2007, blanking Dickinson 24-0 in the regular season finale. The Magi went 5-0 at home this season. 2015: Minot That is the number of points that Bismarck High and Mandan combined in its shootout in Mandan last week. 101 BHS won, The teams scored 49 points in the final quarter. As the West Region s No. 4 seed, BHS travels to East Region champion West Fargo on Friday, Oct. 30. Those teams played earlier this year with BHS prevailing BHS has won the last eight meetiings., the Demons outlasted Mandan in a shootout, 62-39, in a mustwin game to make the playoffs. BHS has now reached the postseason every year since Against Mandan, senior Jaxon Ford rushed for 360 on 40 carries. The 39 points surrendered by BHS was a season-high. CENTURY: The Patriots (7-2 Overall; 5-2 WDA/AAA West Region) head into the AAA postseason as the No. 2 seed from the West Region and will host Fargo Davies on Friday, Oct. 30. Those teams met in week one with the Century winning, Century is surging, winning its last five games after dropping to 0-2 in the AAA/WDA standings. The Patriots closed out its regular season last week with a 34-6 win at Williston to clinch a playoff spot. That win plus losses by Dickinson and Mandan enabled the Pats to finish with the second seed. QB Dalton Feeney threw for 196 yards on 12 of 17 passing and a score. Zach Sweep had five catches for 80 yards, and a score. Talon Staudinger had a 32-yard INT for a score. The Pats led 34-0 at halftime. It was Century s first road game since Sept. 18. DICKINSON: The Midgets (7-2 Overall; 5-2 WDA/AAA West Region) will head to West Fargo Sheyenne on Friday, Oct. 30 for a AAA quarterfinal showdown. Dickinson is the No. 3 seed from the West Region. Its the second year in a row Dickinson has reached the postseason (losing in quarterfinals to F. Davies in 2014). The Midgets dropped its regular season finale, 24-0, at Minot. It was the first time this season the squad was shutout. Tyrell Harris rushed for 113 yards. It was his eighth game this season where he rushed for 100 or more. JAMESTOWN: The Blue Jays (2-7 Overall; 1-6 WDA/AAA West Region) ended its season with a road victory over Legacy on Oct. 24. The win snapped a seven-game losing streak and it was the second road win of the season for the Blue Jays. Jamestown needed a defensive stand in the closing minutes to preserve the win. Ben Hanson rushed for 92 yards on 17 carries for Jamestown. LEGACY: The Sabers (0-9 Overall; 0-7 WDA/AAA West Region) ended its season with a home loss to Jamestown on Oct. 24. It was the third loss this season by three or less points for the Sabers which completed their first full varsity schedule. It was the sixth time he rushed for over 100 yards in a game this season. For the first time this season, Legacy held the opposition scoreless in the second half. MANDAN: The Braves (5-4 Overall; 4-3 WDA/AAA West Region) ended its season with a home loss to Bismarck High on Oct. 21. QB Jake Carlson turned in a career effort. The senior threw for 200 yards and three scores and rushed for 154 and three scores. The loss, coupled with a Century win, eliminated the Braves from playoff contention. The 39 points scored against BHS was the most by a Mandan team since a 40-0 win over the Demons in MINOT: The top-ranked Magi (8-1 Overall; 6-1 WDA/AAA West Region) will have home field advantage for the first two rounds of the AAA playoffs, opening against Fargo South, the No. 4 seed from the East Region, on Friday, Oct. 30. The last time those teams met was in the 2013 semifinal round which the Bruins prevailed en route to a state title. Minot won its first WDA/AAA title since 2007 a week ago with its 24-0 home win over Dickinson. Austin Nagel rushed for a game-high 163 yards on 26 carries. QB Ben Bolinske threw for 141 yards on 7 of 11 passing. ST. MARY S: The Saints (7-1 Overall; 5-1 AA West Region) will begins defense of the AA state title at home. SM earned the No. 1 seed from the West Region last week and will have home field for the first two rounds of the playoffs. SM will host Kindred, the No. 4 seed from the East Region, on Saturday, Oct. 31. SM shared the AA West Region title with Valley City and Beulah, but won tiebreak among the teams based on point differential. SM ended its season with a 21-8 at Valley City. The Saints have won the last two AA championships and have won its last six games. TMCHS (Belcourt): The Braves (0-9 Overall; 0-7 AA West Region) ended its season with a loss at Central Dakota (Cooperstown) last week. The 22 points scored was a season-best for young TMCHS squad which has not won in its last 10 games. WILLISTON: The Coyotes (2-7 Overall; 2-5 WDA/AAA West Region) ended its season with a 34-6 home loss to a surging Century team on Oct. 21. It was Williston s fifth consecutive loss. It was also the last game played at the current Cutting Field. Next season, Williston will play on a new turf field being built near its new high school. x-st. 3 WEEKLY RELEASE - OCT. 19 The regular season will wrap up this week in AAA and AA with several games set for Wedneday, Oct. 21. In WDA/AAA, three teams are still battling for two playoff spots. In AA/West Region, the four playoff teams are determined, but not the seeds. For a second consecutive week, the No. 1 ranked AAA team lost...the Dickinson- Legacy game featured seven scoring plays of 50 or more yards...the Mandan- Jamestown game featured 21 points scored in a span of 38 seconds...during its current five-game winning streak, St. Mary s has outscored its opponents, Williston has scored just 19 points in its last four games...since returning to the QB spot, Century s Dalton Feeney has thrown for 942 yards in three games. St. Mary s picked up its fifth straight AA/West Region win and can clinch a share of its second straight AA/West Region title with a win this week at Valley City. That is the number of scoring plays of 50 or more yards that Dickinson and Legacy churned out in the teams 7 WDA/AAA game on Oct. 16. BHS has qualified for postseason play every year since The Demons have won their last three meetings with the Braves. BHS lost, 30-14, to rival Century on Oct. 16 in a game that featured a plenty of outstanding offensive performances. BHS senior RB Jaxon Ford rushed for 211 yards and a score. It was the third 200-yard rushing game for Ford this year. CENTURY: The Patriots (6-2 Overall; 4-2 WDA/AAA West Region) will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at Williston needing a victory to clinch a AAA playoff berth or a BHS loss to Mandan. Century has won its last four games including a triumph over rival BHS last week. It was the program s first win over the Demons since Senor QB Dalton Feeney threw for nearly 387 yards on 23 of 35 passing. Adam Geiger hauled in 10 passes for 219 yards. Century s defense kept BHS out of the end zone for three quarters. DICKINSON: The Midgets (7-1 Overall; 5-1 WDA/AAA West Region) have a chance to win its first WDA title outright since 1938 when it travels to Minot on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Both teams are 5-1 in conference play. Dickinson has already clinched a AAA playoff spot but could finish anywhere from first to third., Dickinson defeated Legacy RB Tyrell Harris rushed for a game-high 248 yards rushing on 18 carries. Dickinson had four scoring plays of 50 or more yards. The team rushed for 399 yards. The last time the Midgets won seven games in a season was JAMESTOWN: The Blue Jays (1-7 Overall; 0-6 WDA/AAA West Region) will close out its season on the road at Legacy on Saturday, Oct. 24. Jamestown is trying to avoid a winless lead in conference play. The Blue Jays last week fell at home to Mandan, 48-27, dropping it sixth game in a row. Three of the squad s scoring plays covered 38 or more yards. Ben Hanson had a pair of TD receptions. QB Andrew Hornung passed for 224 yards and two scores. LEGACY: The Sabers (0-8 Overall; 0-6 WDA/AAA West Region) will have one more opportunity to earn its first-ever varsity win when it hosts Jamestown on Saturday, Oct. 24. Both teams are winless in AAA/WDA play., the Sabers fell to Dickinson, Legacy RB Alex Brosseau rushed for 210 yards on 18 carriers and a pair of long TD runs. QB Jake Carlson was 10-for-10 passing for 205 yards and 4 TDs. WR Gabe Meschke reeled in three passes for 147 yards and a pair of scores. WILLISTON: The Coyotes (2-6 Overall; 2-4 WDA/AAA West Region) will end its regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 21, hosting Century. Williston has lost its last four games. The key matchup will be Century hosting Bismarck High on Friday, Oct. 16. There are no undefeated AAA teams remaining...dickinson will play its third regular season game at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck on Friday...St. Mary s has allowed just eight total points in the first half of its last four games...century, Bismarck High and Minot are unbeaten at home this season...the AA West Region s two unbeaten teams (Valley City and Beulah) meet on Friday, Oct. 16. Bismarck High knocked off region foe and top ranked Minot last week to move into a three-way tie atop the AAA/WDA standings with the Magi and Dickinson. BHS has won its last four games. The Patriots last win over BHS came in 2010 (20-14)., Century defeated Jamestown, 34-7, behind another strong performance by QB Dalton Feeney. Over the past two week, he s thrown 564 yards and eight touchdowns. DICKINSON: The Midgets (6-1 Overall; 4-1 WDA/AAA West Region) travel to Legacy on Friday, Oct. 16 and a win will keep Dickinson in contention for a WDA title. The Midgets are currently tied with BHS and Minot for the top spot. This will be the first-ever varsity meeting between the schools., Dickinson rolled past rival Williston, The Midgets rushed for a game-high 294 yards, Tyrell Harris accounted for 151 of them and two scores. Dickinson led 21-0 after one quarter. JAMESTOWN: The Blue Jays (1-6 Overall; 0-5 WDA/AAA West Region) final opportunity to win at home this season will be on Thursday, Oct. 15 when it hosts Mandan. A win could exact some revenge, since the Braves knocked Jamestown out of the playoffs last year., the Blue Jays fell to Century, Jamestown has lost six straight games. LEGACY: The Sabers (0-7 Overall; 0-5 WDA/AAA West Region) host Dickinson on Friday, Oct. 16 still seeking its first varsity win. It will be the first-ever varsity meeting between the schools., Legacy lost at Mandan, It was the first time this season it was shutout. The Sabers final two games are at home. Mandan is a game behind three teams in the AAA West standings and tied with another. The Braves defeated Jamestown last season. Mandan posted a shutout over visiting Legacy last week, MINOT: The Magi (6-1 Overall; 4-1 WDA/AAA West Region) travel to Williston on Thursday, Oct. 15 looking to remain in contention for the WDA title. Minot currently is tied for first with BHS and Dickinson and a game ahead of Mandan and Century. Minot has won the last seven over the Coyotes., the Magi lost their first game of the season, falling to No. 2 BHS, Minot committed a season-high five turnovers. The seven points scored was also a season low. ST. MARY S: The Saints (6-1 Overall; 4-1 AA West Region) can clinch a A West Region playoff spot with a home victory on Thursday, Oct. 15 against Central Dakota (Griggs Co. Central). SM has won its last three meetings with CD., SM defeated Stanley-Powers Lake, 48-16, to remain unbeaten on the road. QB Logan Pieterick threw for three scores. TMCHS (Belcourt): The Braves (0-7 Overall; 0-5 AA West Region) host Stanley-Powers Lake on Friday, Oct. 16 in a matchup of teams seeking their first AA West Region win. TMCHS last conference victory came over the Blue Jays last season., the Braves fell to Watford City, It was the sixth straight game, TMCHS has given up 40 or more points. WILLISTON: The Coyotes (2-5 Overall; 2-3 WDA/AAA West Region) host Minot on Thursday, Oct. 15, looking to snap a three game losing skid. Williston still could make the playoffs, but would require wins in its last two games and getting some help. The team has scored just 13 points during that stretch. It s last win over Minot came in 2008 (34-14). The Coyotes dropped a 41-6 decision to rival Dickinson. Cullen Weigle scored on a 14-yard TD reception in the final quarter. The marquee game of the week involving WDA teams is in Bismarck when the Demons (5-1/3-1) host undefeated and No. 1 rated Minot (6-0/4-0).
