Joel is an incredible story, says Williams. He is one of 11 kids, and he decided on his own to do a great job in the classroom and on the basketball court. His is an incredibly positive story both in basketball and life. I know he will help us rebound the ball, block shots and improve his game on the offensive end. u Johnson is a 6-9 forward who plays for Coach Herman Johnson at Edisto High School in Cordova, S.C. Brice plays for his dad at a small school in South and he has tremendous upside as a player, says Williams. He s just now starting to realize what he can do on the basketball court. He blocks shots, is effective around the basket and is going to be a big-time athlete for us. u Paige is a 6-1 point guard who plays for Coach Chris Robertson at Linn Mar High School in Marion, Iowa. Marcus is a great floor general who, like the other three young men that we ve signed, comes from a great family. He s a straight-a student who comes from a basketball family. His mom was a long-time high school basketball coach and his older sister plays at Wisconsin. Marcus is the type of player that everyone on the floor likes to play alongside. u Tokoto is a 6-6 wing player that plays for Coach Dan Leffel at Menomonee Falls High School. 7 What they re saying about the Tar Heels North will be the best team in college basketball, but not by as wide of a margin as in The Tar Heels return everyone, including [Harrison] Barnes, Tyler Zeller, John Henson, Kendall Marshall and Dexter Strickland. The Heels add James Michael McAdoo and P.J. Hairston, and have the depth and power to overwhelm opponents. Barnes can be the best player in the country, and Marshall is the best passing point guard in the nation. If North shoots it better and improves its offensive efficiency, few can beat the Tar Heels. Jay Bilas, ESPN.com, Oct. 27, 2011 On Harrison Barnes: Harrison Barnes going right off pump fake one dribble pull up -- unstoppable and Kobe-like. Doug Gottlieb, ESPN (Nov. 26, 2011, via Twitter) On John Henson: What I love about Henson is that he has reinvented himself as a player. After failing as a perimeter player in his first season, he got stronger, added some weight and took advantage of his athleticism and incredible wingspan to become a mistake eraser for coach Roy Williams defense last season. The transformation started in the very first game of his sophomore season when he dominated Lipscomb with 10 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks. It s not going to be easy to score at the rim on the Tar Heels this season. Fran Fraschilla, ESPN.com, Nov. 8, 2011 Why do you stay in school? Tell you why. John Henson. With improvement he s made, it s starting to look unfair for everyone else. Mike Decourcy, The Sporting News (Nov. 25, 2011, via Twitter) On Kendall Marshall: (Best point guard in the nation) El Capitan. The orchestrator. The maestro. He came in and immediately turned UNC into a title contender last season. His vision and ability to deliver crisp passes allow him to facilitate better than any other player in the collegiate ranks. Some would even dare to call him the Mark Jackson of college basketball. His patience, composure, control and uncanny style of play are what make him a spectacular floor general. Jay Williams, ESPN.com, Oct. 27, 2011 Lots of kids are good assist men but no one understands how to deploy his weapons Always has, always will. Dave Telep, ESPN.com (Nov. 25, 2011, via Twitter) Kendall Marshall can pass that rock! He throws the ball ahead LeBron James (Nov. 25, 2011, via Twitter) I could average 15 points playing with Kendall Marshall. So few players think of their teammates first. Great vision! Fran Fraschilla, ESPN.com (Nov. 25, 2011, via Twitter) On Tyler Zeller: You just don t see big men run the floor like Tyler Zeller.
