The Cardinals have opened league action with a 3-0 record after posting wins over Toledo (51-45), Kent State (71-47) and Western Michigan (61-56). The 3-0 mark is the best start since the season when Ball State opened conference play with victories over Bowling Green, Miami and Western Michigan. Today s game will be streamed live on ESPN3. The Cardinals are currently 10-5 overall and 3-0 in MAC action. Central Michigan enters today s contest with an 11-4 overall record and a 3-0 conference ledger. The Chippewas have opened league action with wins over Kent State (91-78), Akron (89-62) and Buffalo (8871). Central Michigan owns an 8-1 home record this season in McGuirk Arena. Wednesday s game against Central Michigan will mark the 73rd time the teams have met, with the Chippewas leading the all-time series record, Ball State lost both of its meetings to Central Michigan last season. Monaco carried her non-conference success this season into Ball State s first game of conference play and registered her second double-double of the season with a 13-point, 12-rebound performance over the Rockets. The junior forward from the state of Ohio helped the Cardinals earn a MAC rival battle on the road Saturday. It was the second-straight season Ball State had defeated Toledo in its league opener. The Cardinals have now won six straight over the Rockets. For the week Monaco averaged 17.5 points per game and 9.5 rebounds. She also knocked down seven three pointers while shooting 54 percent from behind the arc. Sallee Knows How To Win: Head Coach Brady Sallee is the only head coach in program history to have four consecutive winning seasons ( ), ( ), ( ) and 21-8 ( ). 43 Seasons Of Women s Basketball At Ball State: This is the 43rd season in Ball State women s basketball history. The Cardinals are (.451) and (.451) in the Mid-American Conference. The Cardinals Remain Efficient From The Floor: Last season Ball State was more efficient from the floor than its opponents in 22 of the Cardinals 32 games. The Cardinals field goal percentage for 32 games was.419 while Ball State s opponents were held to.368. The Cardinals are continuing the trend this season after shooting.438 percent for 15 games while holding their opponents to.345 from the floor. Still Outscoring Opponents In Worthen Arena: The Ball State women s basketball team out-scored its opponents by 177 points at John E. Worthen Arena last season, which is an average of 10.4 points per game. The Cardinals shot.443% from the field at home, while limiting opponents to.372%. Ball State also out-rebounded opponents at home last season, including a 392 to 314 on the defensive glass. The Cardinals are continuing that trend at home in and is out-rebounding their opponents, 44.4 to 37.0 while out-scoring their opponents by 151 points (18.8 per game). Starting The Season On the Right Foot: After winning their season opener on Friday, Nov. 11 the Cardinals finally broke a 10-year losing streak. Prior to that Ball State had not won their season opener since the season, under the direction of former Ball State head coach Tracy Roller, when the Cardinals earned a victory at Big Ten foe Michigan, Nov Rebound That Basketball: Senior center Renee Bennett s backto-back double doubles to start the year is the first time a Cardinal has accomplished the feat since former Cardinal Emily Maggert in 2009, that year Maggert started with three double-doubles. Bennett currently has registered four double-doubles this season. She Shoots She Scores: Junior forward Moriah Monaco opened the season with a 24-point performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff (11/11) which marks the most points scored by a Cardinal in a decade. Lisa Rusche chipped in a game-high 23 points against Kentucky in Worthen Arena in Sallee Knows How To Open The MAC: With the win over Toledo on Dec. 31, fifth-year head coach Brady Sallee improved to 4-1 in league openers with wins over Miami, Bowling Green and twice to Toledo. Sallee has lost once and that was in on the road at Akron.

4 Next Game vs. Akron: The Ball State women s basketball team returns to home Saturday when it hosts cross-divsion opponent, Akron at 2 p.m. in Worthen Arena. Saturday s game against Akron will mark the 36th time in program history the two schools have met with the Cardinals leading the all-time series, The last time Ball State defeated Akron was last season in Worthen Arena on Feb. 3 by a score of Ball State Basketball Signs Three NLI s: Oshlynn Brown (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chilicothe), Maliah Howard-Bass (Columbus, Ind./Columbus North) and Sara Price (Warren, Ohio/ Howland) have each signed a NLI to play basketball at Ball State, starting in the season. I am so excited about these three young ladies and their futures at Ball State, said Sallee. They all fill very specific needs for us immediately and I feel will make an impact from day one. Most importantly, they are great people, from great families. They will wear our jersey with the pride that it demands! Oshlynn Brown a 6-1 center from Chillicothe, Ohio enters her senior season with 700 career points and 832 rebounds. She is projected to be the first player in program history to reach 1,000 points and rebounds her last season as a Cavalier. Brown received All-Ohio second team honors as a junior. She is a two-time all league first team selection and two-time first team all district honoree. We are excited to add such a high level athlete to our program, said Sallee. Osh was made to play at Ball State. She competes on every single possession, rebounds furiously and is a nightmare for opponents in the open floor. She has the versatility as a forward that you need to compete at the highest of levels. Maliah Howard-Bass a 5-9 guard from Columbus North, had a breakout junior season, averaging 18.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. As a junior, Howard-Bass was chosen IBCA/Subway Underclass Supreme 15, Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association All-State honors, first-team all-state, first-team all-conference and Associated Press All-State honorable mention. Entering the season Howard-Bass ranked fourth in 3-pointers (86), 11th in points (918), and 11th in steals (176). As a junior, Howard-Bass was an Indiana Core All-Star. Maliah is simply one of the best players in the state, said Sallee. She plays for a special high school program at Columbus North and competes at the highest of levels in the summer with the Indy Gym Rats. She is a do-it-all guard. She can shoot it, drive it and pass it simply a playmaker that we are pumped to have in our program. The second player from the state of Ohio that will join the Cardinals next season is Sara Price from Howland High School. Price is a 6-1 guard/forward who plays both basketball and softball for the Tigers. Last season Price averaged 21.7 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting 44.6 percent from the floor. She currently ranks fifth in school history for points (1,178) and needs 334 points to be the all-time leading scorer at Howland. Price earned All-Ohio honors, First Team all league and all county along with most valuable player as a junior. Sarah s ability to score is special, said Sallee. She can stretch defenses with her 3-point prowess and you add that along with her length and athleticism, she will fit perfectly into our system. Her versatility will allow her to play multiple positions for us. We are very excited to have Sarah in a Ball State uniform for the next four years. Basketball Runs In The Family: Junior Moriah Monaco grew up around the game of basketball, she is the niece of current West Virginia men s basketball coach Bob Huggins who is in his eighth season with the Mountaineers. Huggins is a native of Gnadenhutten, Ohio and was also the head coach for current Mid-American Conference member Akron for five seasons. Monaco is a native of Dover Hills, Ohio and attended Dover Hills High School. Picked Second Again: The Ball State women s basketball team has been picked second for the fourth straight season in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll. One of Five: Ball State was one of five Mid-American Conference teams that particpated in the Women s National Invitation Tournament (Akron, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio) and one of two teams (IUPUI) from the state of Indiana. Ball State was also one of five MAC schools that went undefeated at home in non conference action last season. Home Sweet Home: John E. Worthen Arena has been very good to the Cardinals for the past decade. Ball State has a record of (.656) at Worthen Arena from 2004-present. From 2009-present, the Cardinals own a MAC record when playing at home during conference action. Brady Sallee is at home during league play. This season the Cardinals are currently 4-2 in John E. Worthen Arena. Against The State of Michigan: Ball State is 22-7 against Michigan schools during head coach Brady Sallee s first four seasons after beating Detroit Mercy (twice), Western Michigan (eight times), Eastern Michigan (six times), Central Michigan (four times) and Oakland University (twice). Ball State recently defeated Oakland by a score of on Dec. 11. Sallee Earns 200th Career Win: Ball State head women s basketball coach Brady Sallee reached his 200th career win at Bowling Green, Jan. 16, Sallee currently owns a (.558) career record. Sallee owns a (.557) record at Ball State and ranks second all-time in wins. Former head coach Tracy Roller ( ) ranks first with a record. Brady Ball: Head Coach Brady Sallee plays one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the Mid-American Conference year in and year out. Sallee s first season the Cardinals played Illinois State which had played in the post season Women s National Invitation Tournament. In , Sallee faced six teams in non-conference action that were postseason participants in Louisville and Purdue both went to the NCAA Tournament that season, while Auburn, Western Kentucky and Wyoming played in the Women s National Invitation Tournament and Detroit in the Women s Basketball Invitational. The non-conference schedule featured six more teams that had also reached postseason play in , Louisville, Purdue and Western Kentucky participated in the NCAA Tournament, while Charlotte and Duquesne played in the Women s National Invitation Tournament and Evansville in the Women s Basketball Invitational. For the third straight season, former Cardinal Nathalie Fontaine was named First Team All-MAC, while senior guard Jill Morrison was selected Third Team All-MAC for the second time in her career and sophomore guard Carmen Grande earned a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team. It marked the fifth time Ball State has placed at least three players on All-MAC squads in the same season, with the four other being , , and Nathalie Fontaine ended her career as the Cardinals career leader in points (2,166), games started (130), minutes played (4,320) and free throws made (541). She ranks second in program history for games played (130) and field goals made (805) and sixth for blocked shots (69). Fontaine finished third in rebounds (985). - Nathalie Fontaine was voted the 2016 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and was named MAC West Division Player of the Week seven times in Junior Moriah Monaco scored a career best 28 points at Eastern Michigan (2/27/16) which included eight three point baskets. The eight 3 s were a career best and tied for second-highest single-game total in program history. She was second on the team in scoring last season after averaging 11.3 points per contest. - Ball State women s basketball team advanced to the second round of the Women s National Invitation Tournament for the first time since the season after pulling off a upset over Big Ten foe Iowa. - Ball State made its fourth straight WNIT appearance and seventh overall. The Cardinals have advanced to the second round in four times (2002, 2003, 2013 & 2016). Washington, an Indiana native, has recorded two double-doubels, scoring a season-high 18 points against Chicago State (12/01) and is averaging 9.3 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Cardinals this season while shooting 64 percent from the floor in Ball State s last six games. Points In The Paint: Head coach Brady Sallee emphasizes how important points in the paint mean to him and the Cardinals have listened again this year. Ball State has scored more points in the paint against all but two of its opponent; Auburn and Toledo The Cardinals are 8-3 when they score more points in the paint than their opponents. With the win, Central Michigan remains in control of the Mid-American Conference West Division with an 18-8 overall record and a 12-3 conference ledger while Ball State stays in second place, falling to 18-8 overall and 10-5 in league action. The Cardinals had three players in double figures tonight with Nathalie Fontaine leading the charge after scoring 19 points while pulling down 11 rebounds for her 32nd double-double of her career. After tonight s performance, Fontaine has 2,055 career points and is 37 shy of becoming Ball State women s basketball all-time leading scorer. Moriah Monaco performed well after chipping in 17 points which included four three point baskets. Renee Bennett closed out the double digit scoring with 16 points and added seven rebounds. Ball State opened the second half with back-to-back baskets from Monaco and Benett to give the Cardinals their first lead (35-32) since the first quarter. Both teams continued to trade baskets with Ball State taking a edge heading into the last quarter. Central Michigan led the majority of the fourth quarter but not by much. It was a four-point ball game, 63-59, with 1:13 left on the clock. Fontaine was then fouled on a key layup. She would convert on the three-point play to make it a ball game with just under a minute to play. Poor defensive execution by the Cardinals in the last three possessions forced Ball State to foul Central Michigan. The Chippewas would make their free throws to go back up by three (67-64) with 12 seconds remaining. Fontaine hit a layup to make it a one-point contest (67-66). CMU then turned the ball over and gave back the possession to the Cardinals. With one last chance to win the ball game, Fontaine threw up a shot from behind the arc but it hit off the rim giving the Chippewas the victory. Right out the gates you knew both teams were going to fight until the very end of the game. After three ties and seven lead changes in the first quarter, the Chippewas entered the second quarter with a edge over Ball State. The Cardinals eventually fell behind by 13 points (30-17) with 4:24 remaining in the first half. After that, Bennett hit a layup which would spark an 11-2 run for the Cardinals. McDonald-Spencer was a member of the only Ball State women s basketball team to win a MAC Tournament Championship and participate in the NCAA Tournament in Brady Knows The Mid-American Conference Fourth-year head coach Brady Sallee is familiar with the MAC as he was an assistant women s basketball coach from at Kent State. He helped the Golden Flashes to five regular-season MAC Championships and three tournament titles. The Golden Flashes participated in the NCAA Tournament four of his seven years while posting a combined record of The Last OT Ball State had not played in an overtime game since the season until Thursday when it suffered a loss to East Carolina in Savannah, Ga. 10 HEAD COACH BRADY SALLEE FIFTH YEAR AT BALL STATE A new era in Ball State women s basketball began May 10, 2012, when Brady Sallee was named the 11th head coach in program history. Sallee who enters his fifth season at Ball State in , has made program history by guiding the Cardinals to four straight postseason Women s National Invitation Tournament appearance. He directed the Cardinals to a ledger in which marks only the fifth time in program history Ball State has had a 20+ win season. Sallee is also the only head coach in program history to have four consecutive winning seasons ( ), ( ), ( ) and 22-9 ( ). Sallee owns a career head coach record, including a mark in eight seasons at Eastern Illinois. The season saw Ball State clinch its third automatic bye in four years into the Mid-American Conference Tournament, as the Cardinals entered as the third seed. After earning a berth in the postseason WNIT, the Cardinals advanced to the second round of the tournament for the first time since the season byr pulling off a upset at Big Ten foe Iowa. For the third straight season, senior forward Nathalie Fontaine was named First Team All-MAC, while junior guard Jill Morrison was selected Third Team All-MAC for the second time in her career. Freshman guard Carmen Grande also earned a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team. This marks the fifth time Ball State has placed at least three players on All-MAC squads in the same season, with the four other being , , and Fontaine was also named MAC Player of the Year and earned honorable mention All-American by the Associated Press. Prior to Ball State, Adams spent the last two seasons as the head coach at Howard University. Prior to becoming the head coach at Howard, Adams spent five seasons as an assistant at Northwestern University. At Northwestern, Adams was named defensive coordinator in and offensive coordinator in She helped the Wildcats to the 10th best turn around season in 2009 and was ranked fourth among BCS schools. Adams also played an intricate role in the Wildcats back-to-back Women s National Invitation Tournament appearances ( and ). She also helped in the player development of two First Team All-Big Ten Conference student-athletes, one Third Team All-Big Ten honoree and one Big Ten All-Freshman Team selection. Prior to arriving at Northwestern, Adams coached at American University where she was responsible for all aspects of recruiting. She also was involved in the development of post players and the point person for academic affairs and external relations within the basketball program. Adams, a standout player at the University of Arkansas, began her coaching career in 2004 as an assistant at Lon Morris Junior College in Jacksonville, Texas, before taking a similar position at North Carolina A&T State. She spent two years with the Aggies in Greensboro, N.C., before making the move to Washington D.C. As a student-athlete at Arkansas, Adams was a member of the Final Four team and the WNIT Championship team. A native from East Chicago, Indiana, where she attended Central High School, Adams was ranked as one of the top five post player in the country by BlueStar and was a member of the 1995 Indiana All-Star team. Ryan Patterson, a familiar face to the Mid-American Conference,came to Ball State after spending the season at Kent Stateas an assistant coach. He will begin his fifth season as an assistant coach for the Cardinals basketball team. Patterson s primary focus is working with the guards. Last year, Patterson assisted Ball State to its fourth straight postseason Women s National Invitation Tournament appearance where the Cardinals knocked off Big Ten foe Iowa by a score of Ball State ended the season with a ledger which marks onl the fifth time in program history the Cardinals have had a 20+ win season. She was a standout guard for the Ball State women s basketball team from McDonald-Spencer helped the Cardinals to the most successful season in school history in when the Cardinals won the MAC Championship, the MAC Tournament title and earned the school s first ever berth in the NCAA Tournament. In , Ball State tallied a 26-9 overall record, won the MAC with a 14-2 mark and defeated Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. McDonald ended her career eighth on the school s all-time scoring list (1,353), first in three pointers made (323), first all-time in games started (126), minutes played (4,180), three point field goal attempts (799), games played (127) and most three pointers made in a game with nine. She also holds the three point MAC record with 323. McDonald earned MAC Honorable Mention this season and she was a recipient of Academic All-MAC. Audrey has truly paid her dues and earned this opportunity, Sallee said. There was never a thought about anyone else for this position. The contest was also the first-ever Kids Day Even in which the Cardinals invited local schools to the game and focused on anti-bullying, a subject on which the women s basketball team has been educating local schools since the beginning of fall semester. - Three Cardinals finished the game last Friday against the Golden Lions in double figures, led by junior forward Moriah Monaco with 24 points. Senior center Renee Bennett was the second leading scorer and had a personal best in points (22) and rebounds (11). Senior guard Jill Morrison rounded out the double-digit scoring after ended the day with 12 points while sophomore guard Carmen Grande dished out a game-high nine assists. - The Ball State women s basketball team is having their best start in a decade after the Cardinals defeated Evansville, 84-49, last Wednesday night in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals were led by Jill Morrison who scored 18-points which included four from behind the arc. With the loss, the Cardinals fall to 6-5 on the season while the Lady Toppers improve to 8-4. Besides Morrison, Ball State had two other players reach double figures - junior forward Moriah Monaco (12) and senior center Renee Bennett (11). Bennett also led the Cardinals defensively with eight rebounds. For the game, both teams had 30 rebounds apiece and shot similarly from the floor. Ball State again won the points in the paint battle, 30 to 18. MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women s basketball team closed its non-conference play with a win against Urbana Wednesday night in Worthen Arena. With the win, the Cardinals improved to 7-5 overall before heading into Mid-American Conference play while Urbana dropped to 2-5 on the year. Senior guard Jill Morrison became the 24th member of the Ball State women s basketball 1,000-point club after tallying 15 points on the night. Junior forward Moriah Monaco overcame her shooting woes the last few games and led the Cardinals tonight with a 22-point performance while knocking down 4 of 6 from the 3-point line. Sophomore guard Destiny Washington rounded out the double figure scoring with 12 points. Defensively the Cardinals held the Blue Knights to 32.2 shooting percentage, while Ball State shot 45.0 percent from the field. Ball State also continued its trend of winning the points in the paint battle, 50 to 20 and outrebounded Urbana, 53 to 34.

This is the second-straight season the Cardinals have opened league play with a victory over the Rockets. Senior center Renee Bennett led the Cardinals in scoring with a 15-point performance while teammate junior forward Moriah Monaco earned a double-double after chipping in 13 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams did not have their best shooting performances of the season, Ball State shot only 35.3 percent from the floor while Toledo was held to 24.6 percent. But the answer came down to rebounds and the Cardinals won that battle, 51 to 35. MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women s basketball team (9-5, 2-0 MAC) defeated Kent State (6-8, 0-2 MAC) in Mid-American Conference action Wednesday night in Worthen Arena. The Cardinals have not started the conference season 2-0 since when Ball State opened league action with wins over Bowling Green and Miami. Ball State had three players reach double figures for the contest with junior forward Moriah Monaco leading the way with 24 points which included 6 of 9 shooting from the 3-point line.
