The Virginia Avenue Garage, which charges a fee and is located directly to the east of the venue, connects to the Fieldhouse from the third floor of the garage via a walkway over Delaware Street. The entrance to the Virginia Avenue Garage is located off of Maryland Street. GATES OPEN Bankers Life Fieldhouse will open its gates to fans beginning one hour prior to the start of each session -- 9:30 am ET and 5 pm ET. The venue will be cleared between the Class 2A and 3A games. LOCKER ROOM ACCESS: No one except tournament workers and team coaches and par cipants will have access to the locker rooms. LIVE TELEVISION CUT-INS: News reports showing live game ac on are prohibited. Stand-up reports for newscasts are permi ed from inside the building provided that no live ac on is shown. POST-GAME GUIDELINES With the excep on of the IHSAA s Radio, Television, Internet and Photography partners, all media members are asked to remain off the playing floor and behind the ropes during the post-game awards ceremonies. The post-game ceremonies order will be as follows: Mental A tude Award presenta on Runner-Up medals and trophy presenta on Championship medals and trophy presenta on Team Photographs by Champions Illustrated Following the Class A, 2A and 3A awards ceremonies, coaches and selected players will be escorted to the Media Interview Room for a formal press conference which is located on playing floor level just off the media entrance elevator. We ask your assistance to use the press conference as the appropriate me to conduct interviews. The runner-up team s coach and selected players will go first followed by the championship team s coach and players. Because of newspaper deadlines at the end of the 4A contest, no press conference will be scheduled and news media will be allowed to conduct interviews on and around the floor a er the awards ceremonies.

3 RICK VANDERWIELEN TO BE HONORED WITH IHSAA MEDIA SERVICE AWARD An accomplished entrepreneur whose vision for media broadcas ng, has helped place the IHSAA at the forefront of state high school associa ons across the country, Rick Vanderwielen will be honored with this year s Dis nguished Media Service Award for District 2. Vanderwielen s contribu ons to educa on-based athle cs will be recognized Saturday, March 25, at the IHSAA Boys Basketball State Finals. Commissioner Bobby Cox and Sports Informa on Director Jason Wille will make the presenta on. The Noblesville resident s dedica on to broadcas ng high school sports and his service in a consul ng capacity have resulted in the crea on of IHSAAtv.org and the IHSAA Champions Network. From 2005 to 2013, Vanderwielen s companies produced the IHSAA baseball, so ball and volleyball state finals for Fox, Comcast, IHSAAsports.org and eventually Hamilton County s HomeTown Sports Indiana. Since his re rement in 2013, Rick has volunteered his me and exper se suppor ng the broadcas ng efforts of the state finals as well as crea ng IHSAAtv.org as a portal for IHSAA games of the week and sub-state tournaments in basketball and football. Rick has been instrumental in the planning, development and ul mately the crea on of the IHSAA Champions Network, said Assistant Commissioner Chris Kaufman. His innova ve, forward-thinking style has helped the IHSAA to become a leader in high school video broadcas ng throughout the country. There is no ques on his contribu ons have had a drama c, posi ve impact on the IHSAA in establishing a broadcas ng framework that will con nue to serve our member schools into the future. He has served on advisory boards at Purdue University, the Hamilton County Judicial Task Force, and the Riverview Hospital Board of Directors. He and his family are trustees of the Vanderwielen Family Founda on and 1 More Game which have contributed scholarships to deserving organiza ons and individuals for 20 years. Vanderwielen is a 1974 graduate of Lafaye e Jefferson High School where he met his high school sweetheart, Nancy. The couple have been married for 40 years and have two children and six grandchildren. In high school, Vanderwielen was a three-year le erman in both track and basketball and was a member of the Bronchos basketball team that advanced to the IHSAA State Finals in He went on to earn his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering Technology from Purdue University in 1978 and was later honored as a Dis nguished Alumnus in 2005 by the University. 4 AKRON S KIRK ROBINSON NAMED OUTSTANDING BASKETBALL OFFICIAL Each year, the Indiana High School Athle c Associa on honors an outstanding official in each sport during the State Finals Tournament. Kirk Robinson, of Akron, Indiana, is the recipient of the IHSAA Outstanding Basketball Official Award. As a member of the Northern Indiana Officials Associa on, Kirk has been a licensed basketball official for the past 32 years where he has served as the president, basketball chairman, treasurer, and secretary for his associa on. During his career, he s officiated 23 basketball sec onal championships, 16 regionals, five (5) semi-states, and three (3) state finals. In addi on, Kirk is a licensed volleyball and girls basketball official, and he has refereed the state finals for each of those sports as well (Seven volleyball finals and five girls basketball finals). Kirk was selected for this honor by a commi ee represen ng the official s associa ons. In Indiana, there are 24 associa ons made up of more than 7,000 men and women who give up much of their personal me to assist in providing wholesome, worthwhile, and healthy ac vi es for the student-athletes in our state. Statewide, there are more than 8,000 officials licensed by the IHSAA in 11 sports. Kirk is the owner and purchasing manager or Pike Lumber Company in Akron, Indiana, where he has worked for the past 35 years. He is very ac ve in his community, serving as the President of the Akron Revitaliza on Commi ee, the former President and current board member of the Akron Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Akron Lions Club, and many others. Kirk and his wife of 37 years, Kim, have two children Kyle (32) and Kara (27). INAUGURAL AWARD NAMED FOR SENATOR RICHARD G. LUGAR Senator Richard G. Lugar is the inaugural recipient for an award named in his honor in what will become an annual tradi on at the IHSAA Boys Basketball State Finals. At hal ime of the 4A state championship game on Saturday night, IHSAA Commissioner Bobby Cox and Jim Morris, Vice Chairman of Pacers Sports and Entertainment, will present the Richard G. Lugar Award for Dis nguished Service to Interscholas c Athle cs. A long- me supporter of the Indiana High School Athle c Associa on and educa on-based athle cs, Lugar was instrumental as Mayor of Indianapolis in ensuring the new Market Square Arena was built large enough to host the IHSAA state finals which were played there from Lugar a ended each of the boys high school state championships and regularly a ended many contests throughout the state tournament leading up to the state finals. During his high school days at Shortridge High School in Indianapolis, Lugar par cipated in basketball, football and track and was involved in many other student clubs and ac vi es and graduated first in his class in A fi h genera on Hoosier who le the United States Senate as the longest serving member of Congress in Indiana history ( ), Lugar is recognized as a gi ed local and state leader, as well as a respected na onal and interna onal statesman.

15 ARTHUR L. TRESTER & RAY CRAFT MENTAL ATTITUDE AWARD RECIPIENTS The IHSAA Execu ve Commi ee presents the Arthur L. Trester & Ray Cra Mental A tude Awards to the outstanding senior par cipant in each classifica on of the boys basketball state finals. The recipients of these awards, who were nominated by their principals and coaches, must excel in mental a tude, scholarship, leadership and athle c ability in basketball. The Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, the presen ng sponsors of the state tournament, donate a $1,000 scholarship to each school in the name of the recipient. The 4A, 3A and 2A awards are named in honor of the late Arthur L. Trester who served as first commissioner of the Associa on from 1929 to Trester helped Indiana high school sports and the IHSAA emerge from the Great Depression in a posi on of preeminence unmatched by perhaps any other state in the na on. Beginning in 2016, the Class A award was re-named in honor of Ray Cra, the long- me associate commissioner who served from 1983 to Cra was involved at nearly every level of Indiana secondary educa on and interscholas c athle cs during his career including administering the boys basketball state tournament for many years. He was also a star ng senior guard on Milan High School s 1954 state championship basketball team. Trester Cra From 1917 to 1943 the award was known as The Gimbel Medal for Mental A tude in honor of Mr. Jake Gimbel of Vincennes, who awarded the medal each of those years un l his passing prior to the 1943 tournament. In 1944, the award became known as the IHSAA Medal for Mental A tude. In 1945, the IHSAA Board officially named the award The Arthur L. Trester Medal for Mental A tude. Recipients were given a medal each year from 1945 through 1964, hence The Arthur L. Trester Medal for Mental A tude. Since 1965, the award has been made in the form of a plaque with a copy of the original medal incorporated on the face of the plaque, hence The Arthur L. Trester Award for Mental A tude.
